What the Behind the Scenes Pic of the Day does in life echoes through eternity.
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with today’s Behind the Scenes Pic!
I’ve run some really great images in this column and I think today’s ranks with the best of ‘em. There’s a ton of cool shit going on in this behind the scenes shot from Gladiator. You got a special effects leg, crew members sweeping sand and Russell Crowe wrestling with a big fake tiger.
Thanks once again to Pat Barnett. Click to enlargen.

If you have a behind the scenes shot you’d like to submit to this column, you can email me at quint@aintitcool.com.
Tomorrow’s pic is walkin’ here!

Harry, I will torture you by making you read Batman comics, and then I will let you rewrite your review of TDKR
by maxcherry

This movie is really good, but there's just something about it that's off. Maybe it's the horrible speech the woman gives at the end, Quintus's sudden change of heart that doesn't make ANY sense in its timing or the annoying kid, I don't know. Sweet pic though!

Harry's review of TDKR was spot on - that movie was crap.
by Raptor Jesus
That was a stupid, ridiculous, unbelievable plot. It was just crazy. Which is such a disappointment because the earlier films did such a good job of making a 'real world' Batman. Yeah, a huge guy with a mask is going to create an army of 16 year old orphans who will live in the sewers and are willing to die for him. Right.

Raptor_Jesus. That was the League of Shadows in TDKR
by Dion Mucciacito
not a bunch of orphans trained by the League. I didn't see one 16 year old among them. And Yes, Harry, I predict that a few years from now, you will revisit your review, and recognize the rarity of this truly amazing trilogy that Nolan has made.

@raptor_jesus, which is more unbelievable the plot of TDKR or the….
by maxcherry
plot of The Dark Knight where one man (The Joker), who is completely by himself, is able to make all of the organized crime leaders and their gangs bow down to him. By saying you liked the first two movies, exposes your hypocrisy. If you didn't like BB or TDK, then that would be a different story. But what you state about TDKR can be said about BB and TDK. Most likely you went in to watch TDKR, with the intent of hating it no matter how good or bad it was, because you are so stubborn in your mind that you believe a third movie in a trilogy can't be good.

man i love pre-"drunken street fights era" Russel Crowe
by Balkin Flabgurter
but im on the tips about "post alcoholic depression" Russel Crowe though....why cant actors just act like its a 9-5?

But hes still not better than pre-apocolypto,post-anti-semitic DUI Mel Gibson..

Been a big fan of Mel Gibson over the years, but Mel Gibson still hasn't came out and apologized in the appropriate manner about his anti-semitic comments. Then you have the whole thing of him going postal on his second wife.

Who goes to a movie hoping it will be bad? The Joker was a very believable character. Gotham City being taken over for three months by an army of orphans is not believable.

The orphans went down there looking for work and SOME of the older 19 to 25 ones might have been recruited but most of Bane's army WAS LoS. They did one cutaway shot of a black guy as Batman and Bane was fighting. The same guy was at Bruce's party in BB.

For christ's sake don't say "Have a Labatt's" or "Have a Molson's"... those are the brewing companies not the beer brands. Maybe 50 years ago when they had one beer each. These days you have a "Blue" or a "Canadian".

Trivia fans: That big burly Gladiator champion (with the silver face mask) that Crowe fights in this scene is none other than... The same big burly fucker with the giant hammer from CONAN THE BARBARIAN. This guy rocked it in both CONAN and GLADIATOR - how cool is that!

I think Crowe has aged into the "I'll play every character, even the lead, like a character actor" phase of his career.

Thus the long hair, the gut, the gimmicks he can hang a performance off of (Curious to see how he plays Supes Dad). Not that it hurt Dustin Hoffman in the early days of his career...

Add me to the list of those who thought this film was dull and mediocre.
by kevred
I like Crowe and the rest of the cast, I like the concept, but there was absolutely nothing special at all about this film to me. It was just dull, lifeless, contrived, cliched nonsense. It's a speck of dust next to the classic gladiator films of old, and not even very good as a tribute. But someone please get this Crowe back again. We need this guy as a strong leading man.
-

SHUT YOUR GOB! The movie does not fail because you are too dumb to follow and listen what's going on, you failed it, not it failed you.

...also in Conan as one of Thulsa Doom's primary henchmen. RESPECT.

I liked the first two Batmans, thought Inception was smart but overlong and subsequently a bit boring in places. TDKR makes little sense and feels forced. Good to look at but a bit shit. Like Prometheus (although that was much worse). I like Scott and Nolan overall and just 'cos I or anyone else doesn't worship all their work no matter what... well it sure as hell ain't 'cos we're too dumb to understand it so GET FUCKED.

The movie is epic in every way except for the script. The script is one note. The emperor is a fucking stooge. I mean really, is the fear of Maximus so great that the only way to kill him is in the Arena? Bullshit. Kill Maximus' ass the moment he disrespected him in the arena. The plebes might boo about it, but they aren't going to rise up. The plebes were fucking idiots, and cheered over a lot of senseless carnage in the arena. The love interest. Fucking opportunistic cunt who remains a cunt through the whole goddamn movie up until the credits roll. There is nothing to like there. Nothing. Then she gives a fucking speech about virtue. Yeah, what the fuck ever. It pisses on everything. The world outside of the arena was far more fascinating than the one within.

Harry deleted my post elsewhere but in brief the pacing of DKR is bad-hurry up and dwell-but it is real in that Batman does age and wear out which requires his retirement or death
by CrushKillDestroy
He chose to realize his mortality and need to show Selina his "boy wonder" It did seem that he and Talia had some chemistry and her desire for the plot to be completed looked like it was, dare I say, "wayning" but she could see how Catwoman lit Bruce up and went back to spite. Other than the pacing, it was the introduction of Robin that was silly. It was a pretty darn good movie otherwise and is in the vein of Watchmen with its take on what superheroes would really be like. The only difference here is that Batman is not corrupted.

Mr. Crush and Kill, Batman spoilers are contained within this comment box.
by ChaunceyGardiner
One of the story elements that shows the hard work of the Nolans (and, yes, Mr. Goyer too, bad as I hate to admit it) and what is, contrary to public opinion, their fine writing is the expansion upon of themes. Yes, that means that there is a lot of intellectual postureing in these films, but if the shoe fits... There are the big themes and the recurrance of memes throughout the series, and then there are the within-picture ideas that grow from the specific characters themselves. We see in the first 10 minutes that Bane's organization frequently requires the martyrdom of its member's lives. These lives are given openly, fervently. While this is a particularly frightening idea, and one with terrifying real world parallels, it is not merely an idea that gets tossed aside or used conveniently. By the time that we realize Bane and Talia's relationship, we are able to see the evolution of this idea and its root: in Bane as Talia's pawn and willful pawn. Bane all along as set himself up as the target - it is part of the Master Plan. Talia is the sleeper. She cold-bloodedly must assume a daily life and real world identity that she will turn her back on at any moment. This includes especially her relationship to Wayne. She has gained his trust - much like a spy. She is exploiting his humanity (and not only his but also Fox's). I think that this makes Talia not just a plot twist but an excellent villain, a chilling living testament to the goals and "values" of her terrorist organization. She has become a living example of the Leauge of Shadow's misanthropy and its harsh and unforgiving view of the world. She is a True Believer. And she demands nothing less of her followers. The parallels drawn by the Nolans (and yeah, that Goyer dude too) in "The Dark Knight" to a world in the throes of "the war on terror" are even more sufficiently underlined and highlighted here. The Trilogy I feel is quite a definitive statement on Good and Evil in this, our modern world.

Why didn't Talia just bite Bruce's head off, like a fucking Praying Mantis?
by YourMomsBox3D
Seriously. Why go through all that rigamarole? She could have told Bane, no worries big guy. Go about your deeds. I'm going to fuck this idiot's brains out and then bash his head in with a paperweight from his office while he sleeps. The takeover of Gotham was easy even with Batman in the picture. You would think taking him out of the equation prior to setting their plan in motion would have been so much more prudent.
-
Talia didn't just execute Bruce because the whole point of their elaborate plan was to psychologically and spiritually punish Batman and Gotham before destroying them. Which is repeatedly stated. The absurd effort of flying Batman to the other side of the world makes perfect sense, when you consider that the League is an international organization with vast resources led by people who have a personal grudge against Wayne. The "plot holes" in this film usually turn out to be viewers spending more energy on criticism than watching.
-
Another case of the movie being too awesome to fully appreciate on first viewing. Watched it again on DVD in 2004 and thought it was okay. But then I watched it on blu-ray and man, this is a cool fucking movie.
