Week’s BREAKING BAD
Even More Than Last Week’s!!
Breaking Bad 5.2 FAQ
What’s it called?
“Madrigal.”
Who’s responsible?
Teleplay is credited to series mastermind Vince Gilligan.
What says AMC?
“Walt and Jesse pursue an unlikely business partner; the DEA follows new leads.”
Do we get another flashforward featuring a not-bald Walter White?
Not this week.
How does it start?
In a room with a fellow who looks a bit like Stephen Merchant.
The big news?
“Madrigal” is one of the best “Breaking Bad” episodes yet aired.
What else is AMC not telling us?
Pretty Scottish actress Laura Fraser (“A Knight’s Tale,” “Vanilla Sky”) joins the cast as what appears to be a major new character named Lydia. This episode is really all about my favorite “Breaking Bad” character, world-weary ex-cop and former Gus Fring henchman Mike Ehrmantraut.
What’s great?
This is a tremendous episode for both Jonathan Banks and Dean Norris. Ehrmantraut continues to rival even Raylan Givens in terms of pure badassery. The signage. The story about the foil pouch. Walt’s wait for the handshake. “Right in front of me. Right under my nose.” “Guarding the special sauce?” “Are you ready?” “First I’m hearing about that.” Pedo Schuler. Kayliegh. Lydia. Chao. Chris.
What’s not so great?
After tonight, only six more 2012 episodes remain.
How does 5.2 end, spoiler boy?
“There’s no better reason than family.”
10 p.m. Sunday. AMC.

I didn't get a chance to yell that in last week's thread. Thanks.

All we need is Walt versus the world now

Youtube 'Aaron Paul Price Is Right'. Sure most have seen it by now but I caught it through neogaf this week when he was doing a chat show. Amazing stuff.
-
I could literally do the whole thing and talk about it myself for two days
-
That was one of the funniest things i've seen in a while.was it me or did Leno seem to be fuckin clueless about the show?as opposed to Conan and Kimmel who are both huge fans.found out a huge piece of iconic pop culture trivia friday watching jimmy fallon Bob Odenkirk wrote the infamous motivational speaker bit for Chris Farley while a part of second city.was just in complete awe findinthat out.you could tell he as getting emotional talking about Farley, and hell who could blame him i still shed a tear at times thinking about the talent that was lost with his death.i am loving the new season so far and can't wait to dive inot gustavo fring's true motivations behind his enterprise and really look forward to seeing some light shed on gray matter
-
The Price is Right shit is funny, he's so obnoxious. Can't believe he missed the showcase by fucking $132! I don't think a new big bad will be introduced...maybe just a new opportunity?

And yeah, I hate when the BB cast gets interviewed by people who are obviously not familiar with the show
by Tim
I remember Bryan Cranston was making the sports radio rounds before the S4 premier and Dan Patrick literally only talked about Malcolm in the Middle.
-
That scene was phenomenal, the best part of the episode. Kind of an inverse to the whole plane-collision thing in s2--- showing the consequences of Walt's actions in a totally personal way as opposed to a completely removed one. The screws are tightening... I love this show, but the fact that there are only 6 episodes left makes me just want to see the damn things already. Real curious to see what cliffhanger they're gonna leave us on till next year. (My money is on Hank finding out that Walt is Heisenberg, for said cliffhanger, if anyone's keeping score)

I mean, from a certain point of view, Hank's sort of the big bad now, right?
by psychic_hits
I don't see it that way, but if Walt's the protagonist and Hank's trying to take him down... Whoof! The complexity. What a program.
-
Some little run-in between them in the past when they both were cops. Nothing big, in fact the smaller the better. Because I think they'll never meet again, at least until Mike is a corpse that Hank recognizes from the old days, or doesn't.
-
You can just see Jesse there, in between two old ladies who have no clue what a pool table, a jukebox and a trip to Cancun cost.
-
...I keep expecting Klebanow to break out into a kareoke number.
-
I just watched the first four seasons thanks o AMC's marathon. I can't remember the last show that had me on edge like this. Maybe 24 in its heyday.
-
Just so intense and well-made. Everything about it is good. I don't remember any single scene ringing false, and even my (current) all-time favorite The Sopranos had one or two of those. I got into Breaking Bad late - the fourth season was wrapping up when I started watching in earnest via Netflix - and for a time I was taking it in like a bottle of great wine, rationing my intake so as not to run out. But screw that, I just couldn't stop watching, it's so addictive. I'll definitely be buying the complete series when it comes out.

by Kyle DeMattio
-
And how far in advance did he call it?
-
It was Alan Sepinwall where I originally saw the prediction. When Gus visits Tio Salamanca in the nursing home in Crawl Space, Tio is watching the "What have I done?" scene. Sepinwall guessed that might be foreshadowing for Walt blowing up Gus or one of his holdings.

poisoning thing and Brock, even when I saw the plant, I was shaking my head. I was still holding out hope that Walt had nothing to do with it. I guess that is a testament to how great this show is. It can be easy to forget the horrible things this man has done, and how those things are now stacking up. He's *got lucky* a few times in the sense that one person he *let die* rather than killed, another he just *almost killed* and everyone else either deserved it or had it coming, it was just a matter of time. Now it's just a matter of time until he is either discovered, or a kind of comedy of errors leads to him being associated with something directly that he only had a hand in. And remember, Donald Margolis (Jane's dad) has not been confirmed dead. It was only mentioned that he was rushed to the hospital from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. I'm waiting for Walt, this season, to literally *pull the trigger* on someone, literally or figuratively. And have that someone deserve to die about as much as Gail did. In other words, not much or not at all. Gilligan has very deftly made it possible to still be on Walt's side without feeling like you're rooting for Hannibal Lecter. That cannot last forever. And I think he has brilliantly set Jesse up to be the guy we still do root for (even though he killed an innocent, he did it to protect someone he cared for.... eh... hmmm), only to pull the rug out from under us at some point. And one of the most interesting aspects or character interactions , for me, right now is between Jesse and Mike. They seem to kind of share a common *code* of ethics. And Mike really seems to like the kid maybe as much as Walt does... or even more in the end. Best show on TV... and now I feel comfortable saying ever. It just is. But can I say that having still not seen a single episode of The Wire? Some would say not. But I'm working on that.

Some of the most fun I've ever had was when I had east coast feeds of TV shows
by gotilk
before they aired on the west coast. One of those shows was Jeopardy. I was working nights, and would be there at the house watching TV, waiting for my wife to come home so I could use the car to head for work. We'd get about an hour and a half together before I had to leave every night. Sometimes we'd watch Jeopardy, she loved that show. Well, one day I realized I could see it early and I started memorizing all the right question/answers. (which was a feat in and of itself to be honest) She'd get home and I would get EVERYTHING right... fast. It would blow her away, to the point that she eventually insisted that I audition for the show. At that point, I of course revealed that I'd been watching it earlier and we both had a huge laugh out of it and would tell the story to friends and family even a year out or longer. I'm not taking anything away from our guy here who *predicted* the events of last season, but there's always a chance that someone who posts here had information about the end of the season from the inside and was just having some fun with us. You have to admit that's possible. Especially considering all the times I've had the least significant things I've said questioned here. If I can't get away with relaying actual facts without being questioned on it, I'm sorry... I can't just accept that this person perfectly and accurately guessed the end of last season. It may be true, it may not. But it doesn't matter either way. Just an observation. P.S. - For those who would assume the most bizarre things, NO... I'm not saying he watched the east coast feed. That's obviously not a long enough lead. I'm saying that it's POSSIBLE someone who works on some aspect of the show posts here. The story at the beginning was just an example of that KIND of fun.
-
...to be fair, though, my wife, who admittedly is one of those people who knows too much about every subject, identified the plant when Walt's gun first pointed toward it and called the poisoning as soon as the kid got sick. I didn't post it here, but she certainly called it. So it's possible.
-
Fair enough. Good for her by the way.
-
Maybe I'm a little jealous that I didn't see it coming a mile away. lol.
-
IIRC, there was also a youtube video someone put up before the finale aired that pointed out that you can actually see Huell take the pack of cigs from Jesse when he frisks him at the time the switch took place.
-
Such a terrific show, I didn’t realize how much I missed it until it premiered again (the wifes favorite too). You know, sometimes you miss a show that has an extended hiatus, then when it comes back on, it doesn’t meet (or exceed) your memory of it. BB is _better_ than I remember :) ... and holy shit, did last weeks episode go by fast? I really wish they had done a slightly longer premier. Plus knowing this season is split, you kind of anticipate every minute. We also let the show go 15 minutes on the DVR so we can compress the commercials, makes it feel even shorter, maybe we’ll watch it in real time so make it feel like it’s a full hour!
-
How long do you think it will be before she brings up Walt to the Police? She got a good look at Walt several times including one where he ran into the restaurant and back into the office. I mean he started showing up there only a short time before Frings murder, it seems like she would bring him up at some point.

@gotilk That's what always nagged me about Halloween 3 *spoilers*
by tangcameo
All the kids wearing the Silver Shamrock masks are all supposed to watch the big surprise show at 8pm (or 9pm, I forget). But whoever wrote the script never thought of time zones. So by the time the east coast kids are dead, I'm pretty sure the west coast kids have heard about it and have taken off the masks. Okay I'm probably the only one who cares about that. lol
-
Will end up killing Jesse I think and that will be when Walts transformation is complete . They have both been saying if you kill him you have to kill me too this whole time. I think Walt will be put in a position and have to choose between getting away or killing Jesse and he will kill him. Then I think the audience will turn on walt and I think the writers would use Jesse to give the audience a nice gut punch at the end of the series like that. Of course it could go the opposite direction . Lol
-
Don't cross Mike.
-
You said that was one of the best ever SMH
-
Could have watched that all night. Funny how Hank plays off Gomie to make his points. Loved it.
-
I agree that could be the direction that is heading, particularly since one of the first scenes tonight shows how guilt-ridden Jesse feels about certain events from last season. Walt is just letting it all play out in Jesse's head. Cruel.
-
What ad? Is it online yet? I heard Obama smack down big biz today in a speech that left even Limbaugh practically speechless, clutching at straws... it was pretty funny. Especially the part about Internet business. Yeah... they did it allllll on their own. No help from govt and higher education. Nosiree. ROFL. Pretty powerful stuff, never expected him to go that far because for the most part (and sorry Obama *fans*) he's kind of been a pussy.
-
Not one of the best ever, IMO, but a great episode. Hank's interrogation of Mike was the high point. Also loved the Chief's talk about Gus that could have easily been Hank talking about Walt.
-
The wait, even though it is only minutes, is killing me. Yes, I'm downloading it early. YES, I still watch it live and DVR it on DirecTV too.
-
Interrogation? Oh crap.
-
I'm done speculating on where it's going to go. It's just going to go somewhere that nobody expects and I love that. Any time a show goes in the direction you want it to (or expect it to), it's never executed in the way your imagination lets it.
-

When the chief guy was talking about how Gus was right under his nose it seemed like Hank had a moment. Or has Hank known all along? He's fucking smart... who knows.

I keep glancing at the clock (like with all great shows). I honestly find I can't fully appreciate the episodes til I catch a second viewing with the midnight showing.
-
Those wacky Germans
-
They are about 43 mins now. used to be 47and change. Where i live, they show an extra commercial break right after the opening Breaking Bad title sequence. they used to go right back into story.4 mins shorter now. this show can do a lot with four minutes. Oh, and loved this one.
-
The show is the same length no matter where you are watching it (in the US). It's roughly 42 minutes, which is standard for any hour-long drama on a non-premium channel (i.e., not HBO, Showtime, etc.). A half-hour show is roughly 21 minutes of actual show. This has been the case for many years. It may feel shorter, but it hasn't changed. Vince Gilligan occasionally references the amount of time that they have to tell their story each week in the DVD commentaries, and (without actually quoting him) it is right around 42 minutes.
-
July 22, 2012, 11:03 p.m. CST
He is right about the new commercial break after the title screen though...it used to jump right into the show
by Tim
-
I was planning on getting up to get a drink at the first break, thinking that the show would start right after the credits. When it cut to a break after the credits, I was surprised at that switch. Maybe it was because the cold open felt longer than usual? Still, though, the overall show length is still right where it's always been.
-
Is Gus' wife. I remember they alluded to him having children in the past, and she seemed genuinely concerned when asking Mike who took him out. Add in her sophistication (the type of tea she wanted) and her style and it starts to fit. Plus, she can get the primary Meth ingredient.

the zoom in, him disrobing further (when he got into the bed), his speech about getting over stuff, and just how she was acting the entire episode i was expecting to see some thrusting, but there really wasnt any (unless walt just likes to let his penis just sit motionless in the vag). i think i did see the point of insertion am i just reading to much into walt's descent into badness?
-
We finally got the Mike "origin" episode, melded into an episode where pieces are being put into place (the partnership, Lydia). RIP Chao. 502 was a little less than 46:30, minus the recap, so nothing unusual there. The only bummer is knowing that we're already 25% though with the "season."
-
This is the name of the film Mike was watching. It is a 1954 Bogart film about a captain whose men mutiny against him, although it is ambiguous whether the captain truly deserved it or not. My prediction is that this is a foreshadowing of an eventual mutiny of Mike and Jesse against Walt. Mike's never liked or trusted Walt, and one Jesse finds out the truth about what Walt has done he will likely side with Mike. At that point, I could see Walt essentially getting forced out of his own enterprise, perhaps violently. Is that first scene in which Walt is buying heavy weaponry a prelude to a rendezvous in which Walt is going to confront his ex partners? That is what I'm thinking at this point, but with BB you really do never know.
-
In my mind if its anyone other then Jesse then it will be lame. Jesse has to kill Walt. Jesse has good reason to between the poisoning of brock(I think thats his name) letting his girl die, constantly manipulating him and using and lieing to him. Not to mention whatever Walt does to Jesse thats coming up and how intense it would be to see Walt admitting this stuff to Jesse. If Jesse kills Walt it will be the right ending for the show, In my silly mind anyway
-
The way I see it, Walt dies, Heisenberg lives. The last scene should have him be a crime boss, with no family, no jesse, nobody, that he tells himself he is doing it for. And even then, he should still want MORE.
-
Yeah, great opening and intro to the whole Madrigal corporation. My viewing of that scene was especially messed up, as my DVR had some problems and seemed to play back the scene in a slightly stuttering out of sync slow motion. It was like a really messed up David Lynch style scene. The subtitles were a help in my case. Of course I'm cursing at the screen because it appears my recording of this BB episode is totally boned. Luckily it went back to normal framerate and sync after the opening title card. Great episode. I'm surprised that we got a Mike vs Hank scene this early on.
-
Franch sounds like a great idea!

the look on Hank's face when the captain is telling him how it was *right under his nose*
by lv_426
I definitely think we are seeing the beginnings of Hank getting closer to Walt as Heisenberg. Hank probably hasn't had the grand epiphany that will lead him to that conclusion, but I think he is thinking about how stuff with the overall case doesn't add up. Maybe Hank is going to have a similar fall from grace later this season? He will suspect or figure out it was Walt, and then the DEA will take him off the case or perhaps suspend him due to suspicion and conflict of interest. It'll be back to lone wolf Hank going after Walt and the meth operation.

Walt didn't rape his wife. He just creeped her out really bad.
by Fries Against
If he had assaulted her it would be the talk of the Internet, the protagonist of everyone's favorite show turning into a sexual predator.
-
I think it could certainly be Jesse, but maybe Skyler. I doubt Walt's little pep talk about how it all gets easier to deal with will not apply to Skyler. Another thought... what about Gus Fring's family from Chile? Could we see that angle come into the story here soon? As I remember, Don Eladio said that he knew who he really was, and that he was basically sparing him because of Gustavo's powerful roots/connections. I think we will see some other threats come into play besides the DEA and Madrigal. Gus and the Mexican Cartel added so much tension and danger to the last season. I think we have only seen the tip of the iceberg so far concerning any groups gunning for Walt, Jesse, and now Mike as third partner.

Wouldn't it be fucked up if Gus had been sending millions back to his homeland
by lv_426
to help combat poverty or for some revolutionary cause or something along those lines? Not that it would turn him into a good guy, but would add some complexity to the character and make him more than just another villain motivated primarily by money, and to another extent revenge against Don Eladio.

-
Its not so fast really. He let jessie Girl die in S2 when he could have really saved her. He has killed several people. I think now its just full force
-
Is clearly 'Four Days Out' from season 2. It's the quintessential episode and always will be. And Walt DEFINITELY raped Skylar at the end of tonight's episode. Getting Mike to acquiesce to his plan gave him a huge power boner that he stuck in his catatonic wife. It's one of the creepiest things Walt's ever done.
-
Walt almost spilling the beans was one of the most tense episodes.
-
It was the first time I was truly disgusted by walt's actions. The way he treated skylar was just sickening, especially with his speech about family all the while he shows little compassion for his wife. At this point Walt the hero is no more.

Small Town Security is completely unwatchable garbage. What is AMC thinking??
-
Yeah, our DVR recording was a little wonky during the opening too, I was thinking FMA, I seriously hope the entire episode isn’t like this. Must have been the actual signal since we both had the same section muddled up. We were on deck for the next showing! It seems like Lydia is a relation to Gus given the intensity of her concern (and plan for revenge), potentially a wife, maybe a mistress (which would again clash against the “regular life” he portrayed), but possibly even a daughter (the two actors are 19 years apart, 35 vs. 54)

When do you think we'll see the Ricin behind the light switch again ?
by dj_bollocks
And in what context ? Will Walt plant it on Jesse ? I can't help but think we went through all of that for a reason... Walt is one step ahead of everyone else... When Hank finds out about Walt, Walt will say that his rehab was financed by drug money... Skylar giving the money to Ted incriminates her... Maybe the only thing to beat Walt will be the one thing he can't do anything about... His cancer...
-
I record the show on 3 different DVRs, and all three had the audio problem described above. I was glad for the subtitles as well. Also--I don't mean to keep rehashing the show length issue (yet I keep doing it), but I'm subtracting the opening title/closing credits periods from the 42-43 minute time that I mentioned. That's how long they have to tell the actual story. The episodes may run closer to 46 min on the DVDs, but even that isn't all "story". Hopefully this doesn't come across as argumentative in any way. I'm just reiterating something I heard in one of the commentaries where VG was saying that they only have about 42 minutes to tell their story, and scenes are often cut/altered to fit that. Sometimes exceptions occur. For example--in last season's finale, the scene where Walt sends his neighbor into his house to check the oven/flush out killers only aired once (in the original broadcast). It was cut for time in future airings because it put the overall episode over the time limit. AMC let them run over once, but if you didn't watch that airing, you didn't see that scene. Quick piece of trivia: That neighbor was played by VG's mother.

by heylookoverthere
And that the dude murdered by the cartel in that flashback was his lover, hence motivating his intense hatred of Tio and the Don. With the power vacuum in Albuquerque upon Gus' death...
by Royston Lodge
... Walt's little Scooby Gang is gonna need some serious muscle if they plan on fighting off rival criminal organizations. Mike's good, but he ain't Robocop. If he's going to reinvent himself as New Mexico's new Crime Boss, Walt gonna hafta ally himself with the cartels. Does he have the wherewithal to deal with that level of organization? I don't see how Walt can be the head cook and ALSO be the head of a criminal organization. Cooking is way too labour-intensive for that. By contrast, Gus' day job at the restaurant was purely administrative, so Gus had plenty of time to be a criminal CEO.
-
George: Right in front of me. Right under my nose. Hank: Wait....say that again, what did you just say? George: I said he brought sea bass. Hank: No, no after that. George: He was right under my nose? Hank: Yeah! Nose. Barbecue. Oh my God! Walt!

I only had the impression that Gus' unseen kids were older. However now...
by bah
I checked a transcript of "Abiquiu" from season three. Gus says he can't make the recipe often because "The kids won't eat it". So probably younger then.
-
I probably knew that somewhere down the line.
-
Those were definitely Crispy Crowns. Kind of like flattened tater tots. And that scene was brilliant...I loved how Schuler was clearly falling apart already, dipping his fingers into the ketchup along with the Crispy Crown without even noticing. I hope we see more of the Germans this season.
-
I always felt his "kids" were a load of shit. We only ever heard about them when Walt was around and I don't think we saw anything when Jesse was there. I think Gus made it up to gain Walt's trust and make him look like a normal guy just like him, at the time of course.
-
No one who speaks German could be an evil man.

@bah, that is the episode I am talking about. When Walt enters the house, there are clearly young children's toys in an adjacent room in the background.

Not sure I buy the idea that Gus would have kept the bank details in a photo frame
by supertoyslast
He took great care to encrypt his laptop but the bank details of his partners in crime were hidden in plain sight? Seemingly unencoded (or easy to crack)? Well, it's a necessary plot device I suppose. Apart from that, it was a great episode to get the ball rolling.
-
Now I know.

Plus, the other reason I think Lydia could be Gus' wife is how well Mike knew her. He clearly was close to Gus, and it would make sense that he would be on equal footing with a spouse. An older child, adopted or otherwise? Not so much.

I could be way off. It wouldn't the first time this show has completely fooled me.

@jeffthx: not true. I recently watched a repeat airing of the finale...

...and the neighbor scene was in there. I doubt any reputable show would include a scene that would air only during the initial viewing.

She didn't say yes. But she didn't say no either. At most, it was date-rape. But even that is pushing it, beings that Skyler and Walt are married. I think it was just showing that Walt is a taker now. If he sees it and wants it, it's his, and even his wif

@executor: My post was based on something Vince Gilligan said...
by JeffTHX
...either on one of the BB Insider podcasts, or in the DVD commentary. He went on about how the scene with his mother would only air once because they needed to bring the episode in at a certain length for subsequent airings. It's possible that what he said only applied to the initial air date (?). I don't doubt that you saw the scene in a more recent airing. Maybe the episode was trimmed in other ways, or AMC actually respected the show and its audience enough to allow the episode to air intact. It's good to hear that the scene was left in, because it's yet another indicator of Walt's willingness to sacrifice an innocent person to achieve his end goal.

so I don't know if it's been mentioned, but she is a part of Madrigal. I just watched it a second time and noticed her in the meeting with Hank and the DEA. But that doesn't mean that any of the above theories are invalid. They all could make sense.
-
Yeah, if she actually is Gus's daughter/wife/baby mama, its off the record or Hank & the other cops would be all over her already.

I love that this show essentially revolves around bald guys.
by Ryan Dawson
Walt, Jesse, Hank, Mike - everybody on this show except for the women and the kids is bald or close cropped. Gus, Hector, Tuco, Skinny Pete, all partially bald, shaved, or close cropped. And is Saul's hair a comb over to hide his baldness? Coincidence or vastly meaningful symbolic subtext? You never know man.
-
Yes of course he wouldn't keep the numbers written down in the photo. He would have them encrypted just like the rest of his data. Another plot hole and lazy writing...this show has had too much of that the last couple of seasons.
-
good catch. I didn't recognize this Lydia character at all from past episodes. Maybe I missed something. But you are right that she is in that meeting and explains a bit more.

I think "Crazy Handful of Nothin", from the first season, is the best episode of BB yet.
by Ryan Dawson
It's the one where Walt uses fulminated mercury to force Tuco's hand. First time we scene how bad ass Walt can be due to his death sentence. A brilliantly executed episode in every regard, the initial major high point of the show imo. Next I would have to give to Full Measure, for its stunning season 3 climax. Not sure after that, too many good ones.

rupee88, you're in every thread, talking shit about every single movie and show
by Tim
I mean seriously dude, relax and enjoy some shit. No show on television besides Mad Men perhaps is as meticulously written as BB. These writers work so damn hard to keep pushing the envelope and have the audience on the edge of their seat, it's honestly bullshit to call them "lazy".
-
is that Lily of the Valley still in walt's trunk? Hmmmmm.
-
Oh, wait.
-
I suspect the plant, and the other stuff has been taken care of. At this point, with only one season + 3 episodes left, anything that isn't essential to the story probably won't be seen on screen. There's a certain expediency to the plot (as in Walt's very complete transformation that someone mentioned earlier, as well as Hank's mobile gimpy state) that might make some thing seem a little less organic in terms of time line.

I wonder how many other execs in Madrigal are part of the whole drug operation
by lv_426
Could the series finale be an epic clash of Madrigal interests, the Mexican cartel, the DEA, and the new meth enterprise that Walt/Jesse/Mike are building? Maybe that is why Walt fled and later on needs a big machine gun?
-
July 23, 2012, 10:31 p.m. CST
I think that whoever ends up taking over as big boss of the Mexican cartel will try to screw over Walt's operation
by lv_426
Just as Don Eladio basically said *fuck you* to Gus and his partner when initially presented with the meth business opportunity. Or a rival cartel will swallow up the remains of the one Don Eladio ran. This new cartel will see Walt, Jesse, and Mike as small fries in the grand scheme of it all and try to kill them. They'll wait until they have the meth formula (unless they still have since Jesse has given it to Eladio's chemist in S4), then try to take down Walt and his crew. I wouldn't be surprised if Skyler and her two kids, as well as Marie are put under protection again by the DEA after Hank discovers that Walt is Heisenberg. Walt will narrowly get away though, and flees the state for a year, then returns and arms up, which is what we saw him do at the Denny's scene with the gun dealer. Hank will be suspended or let go from his DEA job after being disgraced by the fact that his bro-in-law is a meth kingpin. Hank doesn't give up easily though, and will pursue this until the end, even if he has to do it alone with no pay. Maybe by the end, Walt and Hank will together try to take down the cartel and Madrigal's goons? Jesse and Mike could very well be another little group at odds with Walt and the other parties. Or maybe all four of them will band together and wreak some havoc?
-
...with the comment about Walt and Hank potentially teaming up. That would be a holy shit reversal of expectations and I'd love every minute of it. It makes sense too. If shit really hits the fan and Walt's entire family is in danger, then Hank may have to reassess his loyalties and help Walt out just to keep Skyler and Walt Jr. alive. Man it would be badass to see Hank and Walt working together.
-
so many awesome ideas, and the craziest thing is, the writers will probably come up with something better than all these ideas combined. god i love this show
-
Walt is going to be killed by a kid one night he is willing to screw up his entire operation based off the death of one kid... then another night he is willing to screw up the partnership by manipulating an almost death of another kid... walt started the business to provide for his family... all the life changing decisions and events on this show are based off of a kid's involvement in the characters life so yea... jesse pinkman's future son is gonna time travel back and kill Walt (didnt expect that part, huh?)
-
July 24, 2012, 9:08 a.m. CST
Maybe Hank will agree to team up with Walt for the final battle of sorts, only if Walt agrees to let Hank bring in Heisenberg once and for all
by lv_426
The final showdown with Madrigal and the Mexican cartel goes down, which at this point Walt has fully transformed into Heisenberg, is able to slip away from Hank. Or Hank thinks that Heisenberg dies in an explosion or something dramatic during the big final showdown. Final scene of the series is Heisenberg buying a new RV with cash, implying that he is gonna go solo and cook some more blue meth. Cut to a pissed looking Hank watching TV now that he is in forced retirement. Walter Jr. and Skyler are in the background of the scene playing Monopoly with Marie. *Hank!!! It's your turn!!* yells Marie from the other room. Hank grumbles and slowly gets up, leaves the room while the news show still plays on the TV. The news correspondent interviews someone in a rough looking neighborhood, which then cuts to close shots of little baggies of the signature blue meth, with a voice over from the news report talking about a bloody shootout between rival drug gangs. A police sketch of Heisenberg is shown, which slowly dissolves to that of the real face of Heisenberg in the same framing/composition. The image reflected in his shades is that of the fountain in front of the Bellagio in Vegas. Blue meth in Vegas seems the perfect fit doesn't it? Or maybe LA/Hollywood? Okay, that probably won't be how it all ends but it was a fun little scenario to cook up as a what-if.
-
Too many shows and movies use the Big Bad Corporation, the Old Guys In Suits Brigade. It's a tired cliche and too big in scope for this show.
-
If only for his own self-interest. He would be more disgraced than his boss is now and would probably face at least an investigation into the money that paid his medical bills.
-
And if Elton John can have an ex-wife, so can Gus (though I don't think that's the case - I think she just ran the chemical supply company).
-
Remember in S4's flashback, Gus was allowed to live because of who he was. I assume the son or brother of someone powerful. I doubt they put that in there just to let it drop.

pretentious-rr-douchebag , therawbeatsdotcom - that was my prediction about Hector and "Ding-Boom River Kwai" taking out Gus last year
by Baribunma
Thanks for the props, guys, and remembering that I got it right. Pretty much the only thing I have gotten right about this show (which I love!). Here's the thread at the time ( http://www.aintitcool.com/node/51343 ). extr3m1st - my prediction wasn't all that early - two weeks before the final show - , after we saw Hector watching "Bridge" when Gus came to taunt him about killing Don Eladio and the rest in "Crawl Space" (ep 411). gotlik - I had no advance knowledge, but I did (and do) listen to the BB podcasts (they are excellent) and remember that Vince Gilligan said that nothing on the show is by accident. So, when I saw the scene from "Bridge" being shown on Hector's TV, it kind of clicked that Hector would sacrifice himself - and his only "weapon" was his bell-ringing finger. Sorry if I messed up anybody's enjoyment be actually being correct in my prediction, but it felt pretty good to actually be able to get it right - especially since I am wrong on so many of these things. I haven't gone away - I dont' post a lot tho.
-
In the remaining first half of this last season, Jesse's going to find out one (or more) of the terrible things that Walt's done in secret (allowing Jane to die, poisoning the kid, whatever), prompting him and Mike to turn on Walt (who they don't really need any more, since Jesse's now as good of a cook as Walt). Skylar - who's already feeling terrible about what happened to Ted and who's being pressured by Marie - turns Walt into Hank, in a desperate attempt to try to protect Walt. Walt then offs Mike (to both protect his family from Mike and prove to Skylar that he hadn't let the situation get out of control) and goes on the run, setting up the second half of the last season: an awesome, spiraling showdown between Walt, Jesse, and Hank (with Lydia playing everybody). I think that Jesse will die (by both Walt and Hanks' hands), as well as at least a few members of Walt's family (quite possibly both Skylar and Walt Jr.), but not Walt - he'll go to prison, a bitter, broken shell of a man (and maybe in as good of physical shape as Hector or Ted). In the end, Hank and Marie wind up with Holly - and Saul Goodman gets away scott-free and rich, and is revealed to be a key player who, after getting fed up with it all, fed Lydia a lot of essential information about everybody.
-
Either by cancer or something else, Walt's death has been inevitable since the first episode.
-
Sunday's episode was perfect. Tension, comedy, revulsion, all portrayed superbly. The show is actually getting better.
-
Yeah that's why I said the Avengers was great and also that the Superman movie will be fun. I don't talk shit about every movie or show, just the ones that deserve it. And I'm not evening "talking shit" about BB. I really like the show but just keeping it real and mentioning that plot holes are not uncommon. Sorry to burst your bubble.
-
LOL. #1 you haven't seen every series in the history of television. And #2 if Breaking Bad was on 10 years ago and The Sopranos was on right now, you would say it is the "best series in the history of television"...because you have a memory the size a gnat.
-
You want lazy writing? Check out Dexter or Sons of Anarchy. I don't mind plot holes when they service a bigger, risk taking, mind blowing story. I saw Avengers once and enjoyed it, but I'm sure it had its plot holes as well, right? I don't care that the T-1000 could have blasted John Connor with a well placed shot at any time during the on foot chases. I don't care that Mr. and Mrs. McFly don't seem to notice their son looks exactly like the stranger that entered their lives in the 50's. I don't care that the soldiers at the end of Cabin in the Woods should have just mowed down the hottie and the stoner. I don't care how Bruce Wayne got backed to a locked down Gotham! So if Gus wrote his routing number on the back of a picture, and that awesome heist scene exposed that number, and that caused a chain reaction to get Mike working with Walt and Jesse? Fucking great, I'm with it. I don't know, maybe it's just me, but if the story is great and the writers are willing to take absolutely balls-out risks, write themselves into incredible situations, I am willing to give them some leeway.

I think the only major mistep breaking bad has made
by heylookoverthere
Was those two cousins. It was silly, the whole thing.
-
I didn't really find them all that threatening. Gus was threatening with his quiet intensity. Tuco was threatening because he was a freakin' psycho. Heck, the Germans are threatening because they're enigmatic Germans. Walt has now become threatening because he's willing to do virtually anything to achieve his goals, he's scary-smart, and he really enjoys being the "big man on campus." I don't think the twins were a misstep per se, they just weren't as threatening as other big bads (and technically they weren't big bads). My only REAL problem with Breaking Bad is that the Pollos Hermanos batter trucks being abandoned with corpses and obvious gun battles on highways. Police never found them and wondered WTF was going on?
-

pretentious-rr-douchebag, it is??? Not by me. Season 4 is fucking great!
by Tim
For the record, Sopranos is my favorite TV show/ movie/ story of all time.
-
is that they were brought up so early in season 2, and then reappear in season 3 after you forget about them. And they aren't big bads, just mini-bosses, and they fueled one of my top three BB episodes, 'One Minute'
-
The first I remember of Tuco's cousins in season two is Tuco mentioning his cousins were coming to pick him and walt up and sneak them back across the border. You don't forget about them, they just don't register, nor should they. If the writers had planed for them at this point then Tuco might have told a story about the cousins that impressed upon the audience who they were and why Walt and Jesse should be afraid of their arrival. anyway, my concern isn't that the characters existed, but how they were envisioned/portrayed. It was cartoonish.
-
it was actually one of my favorite seasons. the whole carmela furio thing was annoying, but besides that i thought it was really damn good. and yea the cousins werent as scary as tuco or gus, but i liked their scenes. and one minute was fucking awesome
-
The last time he worked for a drug dealer he was killed by Eddie Murphy.
-
The scene with Hank where they try to kill him was done so poorly. The guy is standing above him and just lets him load that last bullet into his gun and gets shot...just silly. The other really dumb thing is how Hank had them trapped in the RV and he just leaves with no backup because they call him and tell him his wife was in the hospital. And the biggest recent one was still Saul not telling Walk that he gave away $400K of his money. It just made no sense in terms of the story and characters, etc, etc. ...just dumb. So those types of things are not infrequent and are glaring and do detract from the enjoyment of the show. Of course I could also write a long list of everything they do right and not trying to minimize that...just saying that it's not some kind of near perfect show like some of you are gushing about.
-
Things that you don't quite understand, or things that you don't like (that the bank account was in the picture frame, for example) are NOT plot holes. On that note, things that are glaring or absurd to some people make perfect sense to others. It's your subjective opinion that, for example, it made no sense that Hank left the trailer of a two-bit drug dealer to race to the side of his wife. For others of us, we went with it.
-
It makes no sense. Besides, her father obviously disappeared and was never heard from nor seen again when she was a child (hence her near-hysterical insistence that her own daugther find her, even dead and with a gunshot wound; she doesn't want her daughter to grow up with the uncertainty she, Lydia, had about her own father's demise/disappearance). I think the most likely explanation of who she is is one that's already been postulated: she's the daughter of Gus's former partner/perhaps-lover who was shot at the Don's pool. The cartel would've disappeared his body, and Gus, out of guilt and a sense of responsibility, would have provided for Lydia, eventually making her his money launderer.
-
The cousin didn't "let Hank load his last round", Hank found the armor piercing bullet on the ground and loaded it while the cousin went to get the ax. Silly that he went to get the ax? You could argue that...but the parking lot scene was one of the most exciting and cinematic things I've seen on the show, so...you know, fuck off.
