Jackie Earle Haley has been cast in Jose Padilha's ROBOCOP, along with Gary Oldman, Samuel Jackson, Hugh Laurie, Abbie Cornish, and Joel Kinnaman. Jay Baruchel is also considering taking a role in the reboot, according to Deadline.
Haley will play Maddox, the man who helps train Robocop in the ways of the military. Interesting. This is shaping up to be a different story than the original. I was picturing Haley playing something of a Clarence Boddicker role. If there's anyone who could sell "Can you fly, Bobby?" as well as The Kurtwood it would be Jackie Earle Haley.
You have to admit, a cast like this means that the producers and the director are really taking this seriously, hoping to offer a unique take on the story. But I've been an advocate for this movie for a while now.
