Jimmy Kimmel Announced The EMMY Nominations at 5:40am PT / 8:40am ET!! How Did BOSS, BOARDWALK, BREAKING BAD, COMMUNITY, DAMAGES, FRINGE, GAME OF THRONES, HOMELAND, JUSTIFIED And
MAD MEN Fare This Year??

I am – Hercules!!

Will Giancarlo Esposito get some love this morning for his work as Gus Fring? What about John Noble’s turns as the Walter Bishops of Two Earths? What of John Slattery’s quippy Roger Sterling or Jared Harris’ work as Lane Pryce? Or the peerless Mandy Patinkin as Saul Berenson?

How about Neal McDonough as creepy Detroit gangster Robert Quarles or Timothy Olyphant as his lawman foe Raylan Givens? I’d love to see a nod for Connie Nielsen as Chicago mayor’s wife Meredith Kane. And why not Maisie Williams as Arya Stark or Charles Dance as Tywin Lannister? Jack Huston as Richard Harrow?

Danny Pudi as Abed Nadir? Mike Judge as Beavis & Butt-head? Trey Parker as Eric Cartman? Zooey Deschanel as Jess Day? Louie CK as himself? Larry David as himself? Chris Pratt as Andy Dwyer or Nick Offerman as Ron Fucking Swanson?

So much great TV this year.

    Breaking Bad

    by NOBLOODNODALLAS

Season 4 is eligible this time around....can't see anything else beating it. that goes for actors too, and writing, and directing, and editing....fuck just give Breaking bad everything...even the comedy awards. That is all.

  • This year though, not so much. Not because the actors work was any less amazing, but because he was featured less. Much much less, in fact. And there happened to be some stellar performances from other actors this year, too.

  • July 19, 2012, 4:40 a.m. CST

    was he really featured less?

WTF? theres probably other snubs im forgetting too

    by jsfithaca

where should walking dead have been nominated? it doesn't come close to any of the best drama noms. the only acting worth mentioning is jon bernthal, and jim carter is the only performance he comes close too. id easily put in an actor from justified for him though, or john slattery.

Luther needs to win awards- fucking amazing show

    by Judge Briggs

Too bad Justified was, once again, snubbed. LOVE Luther and Breaking Bad. Best shows on tv right now ... though Breaking Bad is the better one because it's been on for a few seasons now and hasn't let up! Love Boardwalk Empire too. Of course Daily Show will win the variety comedy award because it's brilliant.

  • July 19, 2012, 9:32 a.m. CST

Community Snubbed Again! Nick Offerman Snubbed! No Fringe!

    by under_the_radar

The Emmys get it wrong again. No nominations for Community at all. That and Parks and Recreation (and probably Louie too) should've been nominated for Best Comedy over Girls, 30 Rock, and Big Bang Theory (all good shows, but not as good last season, and I haven't seen Veep). No nominations for Nick Offerman or Danny Pudi. I love Modern Family, but did the entire cast need to be nominated and no Offerman or Pudi? No major nominations for Justified (although season 2 was better) or Fringe (at least John Noble should've been nominated). And what about The Walking Dead, no major nominations. And is Girls even a comedy, it's actually pretty depressing. But hey, Michael J. Fox got two nominations, so that's cool. Whatever, it's just an awards show, but still...

  • July 19, 2012, 9:45 a.m. CST

7 women nominated for comedy actress?

    by JediRob

Who'd they want to shoehorn in?

  • Smells like bullshit.

  • And i love Girls and 30 Rock but Louie should have been nominated and won.

    No Fringe???

    Fuck you Emmy.

  • July 19, 2012, 10:11 a.m. CST

So Glad that Breaking Bad & American Horror Story got recognized

    by Kyle DeMattio

I hope Breaking Bad wins best drama and either Aaron Paul or Giancarlo Esposito win best supporting actor. And I also hope that AHS wins best miniseries, along with Lange and Britton. All the other nominations can go fuck themselves.

  • Yeah, 10 episodes per season. Just like (give or take) Boardwalk Empire, Game of Thrones, Mad Men, Breaking Bad, Downton Abbey, Dexter. 10 to 12 episodes doesn't mean it is a miniseries, it generally means it is a cable series. If the show spans more than one season, how can it be called a miniseries? AHS and True Blood are NOT miniseries. Band of Brothers was a miniseries, as was The Pacific, From the Earth to the Moon, Roots, Lonesome Dove, War & Remembrance, Winds of War, Shogun, etc. Series that are a collection of episodes with a self-contained story. The first episode of the (one and only) season is the very first episode ever; the season finale is also the series finale. AHS & True Blood are ongoing series. Sure, AHS season 1 is, in its own way, a self-contained story, but it is still an ongoing series (season 2 coming soon to a TV near you). Maybe that might fall into a grey area. But I can not see how any argument can justify True Blood (season 4) being classified as a miniseries. It is the 4th season of a show that is now in its fifth and will continue for at least one more after that. It is the very definition of an ongoing series. But, hey, maybe this means next year "Community" can get some nominations in the miniseries category.

  • season finale also, by default, being its series finale, that doesn't make it a miniseries. That just makes it a show that didn't get picked up for a second season. No one intended for that last episode to be the last episode ever, that's just how it worked out. Yet the Emmy nominators still thought Ashley Judd's "Missing" qualifies as a miniseries. What's next, pilots that don't make it to air being nominated as miniseries?

  • July 19, 2012, 11:33 a.m. CST

Girls for Best Comedy? Emmys = Joke

    by billcom6

No Sons of Anarchy? No Justified? American Horror Story considered a mini series? lol Emmys

  • July 19, 2012, 11:36 a.m. CST

    Louie and Boss

    by Bass Ackwards

Yea, should definitely be Louie in there and not BBT, would have likes to see Kelsey Grammer get a noddir Boss too, but that lead actor in a drama category is pretty tight, not sure who I'd bump off her that.

  • July 19, 2012, 11:41 a.m. CST

    Miniseries

    by Bass Ackwards

AHS argument is that each season is self contained, i.e. season 2 will have a whole new cast/ story/setting etc. Shrug. What's confusing me about the miniseries is why wasn't Sherlock as a whole nominated, rather then just the one episode (granted it was an amazing episode).

  • July 19, 2012, 11:54 a.m. CST

Yay for: Louie, Girls, Mad Men, Breaking Bad and Adventure Time

    by Prior Walter

WTF for New Girl? Terrible show. Louie should have gotten a best Comedy nomination. Girls is a good show, so I'm not going to hate and maybe I have awful taste, but I don't understand why people are so incredulous over its nominations. Community needs more love, though. Also excited to see Adventure Time and Children's Hospital nominated.

    SERIOUSLY HATE THIS FORMAT

    by thepoohguy

I know I'm the odd man out, but I watch a lot of network tv, and not so much cable shows, and I have no pay cable channels (HBO, Showtime, etc). The Emmys have become a push for these companies to get subscribers. First and foremost is the lack of John Noble. I mean seriously, the first few episodes of the season when he thought Olivia was going to lock him back up were great. Then in the flash forward episode where he went from crazy Walter to full brain Walter was Awesome. 2nd, only one nomination for Once Upon a Time? Probably one of the most inventive dramas to come along in a while. 3rd, no nominations for Revenge? The first network drama to come along in a VERY long time that is awesome. Face it, Emmys hate network tv, except for comedies, because they are only serving the purpose of getting people to purchase their networks. I prefer the old method of Emmys = network TV and Cable ACE awards = cable TV

  • July 19, 2012, 1:05 p.m. CST

thepoohguy, why on earth would the emmys pimp for cable?

    by walt

they were created as a commercial for prime time network tv and once is a ripoff of fables...which abc optioned, but never used...

  • It just seems like a cop out, and a new trend that I don't like.

  • July 19, 2012, 1:22 p.m. CST

Hellz Yea, for Damages, Luther and BE!!

    by Stalkeye

Wasn't to pleased with Breaking Bad's previous Season however, the last four eps stood out as my favs. The Series might be losing it's legs a bit and by calling it quits, AMC made the right decision.Same goes for Damages, better to leave while somewhat on top.

  • Even the Darryl-centric episode Chupachara was fucking great. Then of course there were tow cliffhanging shockers before and after Season Finale. I would give TWD props way over Homeland (which is another good show in it's own right. A bit too slow at times.)

  • July 19, 2012, 1:28 p.m. CST

Now that Dan Harmon got kicked off his own show.

  • Most WTF death scene on Cable television.

  • Most WTF death scene on Cable television.

  • Because, Lena Dunham's fat, you see. Had this category existed 20 years ago, Dennis Franz would have cleaned up every year. I'd rather see Dennis Franz' nekkid ass than Lena Dunham's any day of the week.

  • July 19, 2012, 1:48 p.m. CST

So I'm the only one who didn't like Luther s2?

    by Bass Ackwards

I was blown away by the first season of Luther, but the sexond season just seemed like a common procedural to me. And that's not something I'd even mind, I actually like procedurals here and there, especially with someone like Idris Elba at the helm, but a procedural that's only 3 episodes long? Very unsatisfying. Maybe I'll give it another chance though, expectations may have been high after that 1st season and I see its on netflix now...

    by theGoldbergV

It was campy fun. And I guess because they have a new cast and story for season 2 then it does class as a miniseries. But True Blood though? No way. And who gives a shit about the Emmys anyway? The Wire is the best series ever made and never got one nomination...

I just read it in another comment. Just checked and no, it's not nominated. Oops

Lena Dunham: Most overrated Emmy nominee of the past 5 years.

    by Paul Hanlin Jr

It is a mother-fucking travesty, a crime against TV humanity that Lena Dunham, this flash in the pan, flavor of the instant to get THREE nominations (and Mayim fucking Bialik getting a nomination of her own) whilst Kristen Bell and Lauren Graham have gone 0-for-their-collective-CAREERS in NOT EVEN GETTING A SINGLE NOMINATION BETWEEN THEM shows you just how effed up the Emmys are. What the eff is so freaking special about Lena Dunham? Other than she's on an HBO show?

Does nobody understand that AHS is a miniseries because...

    by Executor

...the cast and story are going to be completely different for S2? It has nothing to do with the number of episodes. And my recollection of why Downton Abbey was a miniseries before and now a series is that when first nominated it wasn't a sure thing it was going to be ongoing. Then they decided to make more: hence, now a series. People sure like to complain a lot.

Outstanding Comedy Series continues to confound

    by k88dad

No Louis CK? No Parks and Rec? No Community? Heck, I'd take any of the Showtime comedies over Modern Family, Veep or Girls.

  • ...it is by no means in the same category as those other Mini-Series. It's based on how the Producers decide to submit, they probably could have done either because of some loop hole, and decided they have a better chance of winning in this category. Which is true. But I don't think that's really fair to the actual Mini-Series' and TV Movies. The mini-series category is basically for long movies. AHS is not a long movie.

  • And no, I don't hate women, I don't live in my mom's basement. And yes, I support feminism, I do think female comedians and writers are funny, I will totally and have watched female-centric shows, created by women, starring positive female characters (and not just the ones disguised as action/adventure shows). I just don't get the praise that is dumped on Lena Dunham or that she is some kind of prodigy. There are a ton of better female writers and producers out there who deserve more attention and successful than she does.

    Jeff Probst

    by DeanCubed

I don't get it, he's been great on Survivor and usually gets a nomination for best host. There's a bunch of new blood in that category. Also wondering why Julie Chen for Big Brother never gets a nomination.

Have any of you actually watched Girls?

    by mypalfish

I watched every ep in a marathon not too long ago, and it was as bad as could be imagined. A few unlikable characters is one thing, but every single person in the show wants to make you scratch your eyes out. And the show is not a comedy. There is nothing funny about it. Brian Williams daughter is pretty, though. Can't act worth a darn, but she's nice to look at.

  • dramas since the first episodes.

Justified lost its slots to Downton Abby

    by MGTHEDJ

Abby moved to the TV Series category. I hope Sherlock gets the love. They should win acting awards since Martin is in lead in The Hobbit and Cumberbatch is in Star Trek. They will get something.-----later-----m

  • The man was a tour de force last season. An utter fucking delight to watch. to go from cold, calm, collected, sinister, evilly borderline insane, sardonic, funny, smug, charismatic, dangerous, asshole-y, desperate and erratic, drugged out and dangerous, and unpredictable from episode to episode was fucking amazing.

  • July 19, 2012, 6:11 p.m. CST

    Um, Maisie Williams????????

    by diggerd

Come on, she was fantastic this season. Her scenes with Papa Lannister were classics. One of the best performances on television this year.

Mad Men does not deserve it this time

    by FrodoFraggins

It's the old voters remembering their youth. That show has degraded while BB gets better and better.

All I know is Claire Danes better win

    by FrodoFraggins

Mad Men was Great this season

    by Prior Walter

Roger Sterling taking LSD, Joan becoming a partner, Ginsberg, Megan's teefs, everything with Lane. Such a weirdly fantastic season. And I thought Breaking Bad's fourth season was a letdown compared to season 3. It kind of meandered along until the end, which was some of the series' best stuff. But it had too much of Skyler and the kid.

  • July 19, 2012, 7:36 p.m. CST

i too thought bb s4 meandered a bit

    by Rinse

when watching week-to-week. i recently watched s4 eps again back-to-back over a few nights, and the season felt much more cohesive than i originally thought.

  • July 19, 2012, 7:41 p.m. CST

Mad Men is great every year

    by Bass Ackwards

But definitely had an especially strong season this year.

    Cranston all the way...

    by workshed

...betcha he makes it not four BUT FIVE in a row. GO HEISENBERG!!! I'd like Esposito to nick it too. Of course, as much as I love Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad is the show to beat. Season Four was some of the greatest television I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing, so much so that I now find visits to the cinema a shallow affair by comparison (no matter how good the movie!) SALUD!

Claire Danes is a lock for best actress in drama

    by Alientoast

    Well, I think so anyways!

Some of MM seemed forced and gimmicky this season

    by mypalfish

The LSD scene, Lane's storyline...just overdone a bit, imo.

  • July 19, 2012, 8:08 p.m. CST

    More Maisie Williams praise

    by mypalfish

Her scenes with Mr Lannister were truly fantastic. Child actors are usually like nails on a chalkboard, but she never overacts, and does a great job just with her facial expressions. She was great with her "dancing master" last season, too.

Community Got One Nomination, so not completely snubbed

    by Auriellis

Chris McKenna got the writing nod for Remedial Chaos Theory.

Also pleased that Sherlock got some love

    by Auriellis

Sherlock is by far one of the best shows and deserves all the attention it's getting.

  • July 19, 2012, 10:42 p.m. CST

If Sherlock and Cumberbatch don't win it will be a travesty.

    by RedJester

Also, how is it in the rules for American Horror Story to be considered a miniseries? Can you say, "Attempting to cheat your way to a win"?

  • July 19, 2012, 10:55 p.m. CST

waltkovacs because cable makes more money

    by thepoohguy

Think about NBC and all the cable channels they own. It's better for people tow watch USA than NBC because the network makes more money from the cable channels. Network TV relies solely on ad revenue, where cable channels don't. The more people who pay for AMC, also pay for USA, so it's a win win for network television. If you don't believe me that they make more money this way, look at what happened with Dish and AMC recently. Bottom line is, the Emmys should be an award show for television that EVERYONE can watch, not only those that fork over extra cash. Besides based upon content, after all, off color language, nudity, and general content of a show like Breaking Bad, would never be allowed on network television, and therefore how can the two compete. So you tell me, is it a ploy for more people to buy cable TV, or is it a ploy to downgrade the FCC requirements for what can be broadcast on free network television? Bottom line is the two can't compete against each other, and therefore network TV should have either it's own Emmys, or it should have it's own categories.

  • its called the internet. learn to use it.

predictable as always from the Emmys

    by kenneth campbell

it is the same shows year after year. so predictable and boring.

  • July 20, 2012, 6:19 a.m. CST

    one pleasant surprise

    by Truxton Spangler

I didn't catch earlier -- Mark Margolis, aka Tio, got a nom for guest actor. He's up against Jeremy Davies (one of Justified's two noms), M.J. Fox, Ginsburg on Mad Men, amongst others' whose work I haven't seen. But he's the only one in the category who had no dialogue except in one episode and relied entirely on facial expressions and a bell. (I wonder which episode he submitted?) And if Jason "I play the same slacker character all the time" Ritter wins, somebody needs to be shot.

  • July 20, 2012, 6:24 a.m. CST

Actually, in light of recent events

    by Truxton Spangler

that last comment was in poor taste. If I could edit it out, I would. Mea culpa.

Louie not nominated for best comedy series? Fuck, man

    by skoolbus

  • as is the best casting in a comedy (P & R has got to have the deepest bench in a network comedy. Every. Single. Character. Shines.). It's fucked up logic like that, that makes the nominations questionable.

  • July 20, 2012, 2:08 p.m. CST

    SOA is over rated garbage.

    by Tim

The only award they should win is how to drag out plots for entire seasons that better shows would wrap up in 2 eps.

    Snub City...

    by xlyarb

Maisie Williams and Charles Dance...I genuinely had hope that one, if not both, of them would get a nod. I'd have liked to see some John Noble too, but I didn't really expect as much as I did for Dance or Williams. Such is life, though.....I guess.
