Jessica Biel decides to shed the role of VIPER in upcoming WOLVERINE flick
Hey folks, Harry here with the news that earlier news that came out isn't exactly so. Often times in the Entertainment biz, there's rumors that are absoltely true. It is true that Jessica Biel was offered the role of VIPER in the latest Hugh Jackman WOLVERINE film. A film that at one point was guaranteed to be amazing, when Darren Aronofsky was helming... but like that alternate universe version of the tale, so too is the transitory nature of our imaginations having Jessica Biel slink across the screen as Viper. Word is, and you never quite can trust it, that Jessica got cold feet. Not why though. Did she hate the script, director or did she just not want to be in the microscope of geek culture. OF COURSE - after the last installment of WOLVERINE, I can see how they might be having trouble lining everything up for this installment, but we'll see. Ultimately, if you're like me, you're still waiting on a great WOLVERINE film with Hugh Jackman... I just hope this isn't like Pierce Brosnan's run at James Bond, where he had shining moments, but never quite the great James Bond that most of us felt he should have been. Not his fault, just the tone and place of the franchise at that time. So - who plays VIPER if not Biel?

finally watched Blade Trinity and fired her.

I guess? The X-Men films all seem throw away (except X2 that is!)
-
why not just say she declined it or turned it down? why does a headline have to try to be artisticly convoluted?
-
Hugh Jackman looks vastly "older" now than when he started Wolverine over a decade ago. Jackman's great and all, but its time to pass the torch.
-
Harry what are you talking? Pierce did a great job as James Bond, especially in Golden Eye. The over the top gadgets and femme fatales were pretty much the expected standard in James Bond films until Casino Royale came around and changed the game. Back then we got exactly what we expected out those films. However, we all know what a Wolverine film SHOULD be like so that's why the disappointment is there....
-
then cast her as wonder woman in JLA
-
Im happy Jessica Biel is out, but the producers will probably find someone even worse.
-
because vipers are snakes. and snakes shed. get it? ha. ha. as for jessica biel, i prefer the kind of "shedding" she did in Powder Blue.
-
Not one to bag on Harry but christ that was just about unbearable to read. Also, Brosnan made more good Bond films than bad.
-
I just saw her in a movie with Jamie Foxx, and her acting was strangely flat, something that I have noticed from all of her past performances. See feels like she is reciting a a script reading, and never seems to inhabit her characters, authentically.

Movie was great but everyone complaining about Bane's voice made Nolan change the prologue where now he sounds very ADR.

I actually tend to agree that Bronson as Bond never wound up being as good as he should have been nor as the movies should have been given his talent and almost perfect evolution of the more Roger Moore aspects of the character. Whichever one had Halle Berry in it and that stupid invisible car just killed the whole thing for me. Berry only spoke in sexual innuendos (that's all I recall - not a single line of non-sexual-innuendo dialog throughout tho I'm sure she said at least something outside of a sexual context at some point). And the invisible car? Bah! The writing and predictably imaginative styling of a teenage boy! Oh and my guess is Jessica Biel just watched "Origins:Wolverine" last weekend and had second thoughts. Not like she's got a career narrating HBO sports specials and documentaries waiting for her.

Using my patented Harry Knowles-to-English Translator, I present what Harry meant to say up above...
by Somerichs
Hey folks, Harry here with an update on the news that broke earlier about Jessica Biel joining the cast of the latest Hugh Jackman Wolverine film. While it is true that Jessica Biel was offered the role of Viper in the next chapter of the Wolverine franchise, it seems the veracity of the report that Ms. Biel actually accepted the part is now in question. Word on the street is that she got cold feet and turned the role down. No word yet on WHY she turned it down. Did she hate the script? The director? Maybe she reeled at the thought of coming under the microscope of geek culture. Only time will tell. Or not. Whatever the case may be, after the last installment, I can see how they might be having trouble lining everything up for this iteration of Wolverine. So, the film that was once guaranteed to be amazing--one directed by Darren Aronofsky and with Jessica Biel slinking across the screen as Viper--will now have to live in the transitory confines of our imaginations, an alternate universe, "what if" version for all geeks to ponder and lament. Ultimately, if you're like me, you're still waiting on a great Hugh Jackman WOLVERINE film. I just hope this isn't like Pierce Brosnan's run as James Bond, where he had shining moments as Bond, but never quite found the the great James Bond vehicle that would have allowed him to become the great James Bond that most of us felt he should have been. Not his fault, just the tone and place of the franchise at that time. So - who plays VIPER if not Biel?
-
Anybody remember Blade Trinity at all?
-
I dunno.... I'm trying....
-
I mean, Harry, this is supposed to be a site with some "pull," isn't it? Call up Biel's rep and see if they're willing to explain. Worst case, it's almost certain they'd fall back on the old "scheduling conflicts" chestnut, but then the article would seem more like journalism and less like you lifted the rumors from other sites. I am not, and never have been, a fan of Biel. She's not horrible, but I have never her as terribly interesting or appealing. As a nitpick, "...the transitory nature of our imaginations having Jessica Biel slink across the screen as Viper" makes absolutely no sense. Transitory just means that you're moving from one state to another. Nothing about her moving across the screen is "transitory" unless you are simply saying she's moving from point A to point B, in which case you're simply repeating yourself. You're trying too hard. Just keep the flowers in the vase and say something like "In a more promising alternate universe, where Darren Aronofsky was still helming the pic, perhaps Jessica would have stuck around long enough for us to enjoy seeing her slink across the screen as Viper. As it stands, we have no idea why she pulled away from the project, but the rumor is that she got cold feet." Ah. Much better.

Mitra is hot, and I think Shannyn Sossamon should be in everything ever.

-
I love when people call a movie shit before they even see it. Those are the people that give people who really love movies a bad name. And for my money, Pierce Brosnan made one of the best Bond movies ever, Goldeneye. Tomorrow Never Dies and World is Not Enough were fun but missed the mark and Die Another Day was bad, but Goldeneye holds up with the best Bonds for me.

The very idea that they thought about her for Viper is Awful
by chien_sale
And it shows how a bad and misguided and confused a movie production it is. Viper is not a hair head like Biel, she's rather not that physical either. Viper is a cerebral/manipulative character, there's some depth there.
-
I don't get the hate for Mangold, he has made some fantastic films. Copland, Walk the Line, 3:10 to Yuma were all excellent.
-
…isn't First Class 2 an adaptation of Days of Future Past? Sounds like they're trying to shoehorn Wolverine in there, while papering over the continuity gaffes in the first film.
-
Left to her own devices, she never would have turned this down in a million years.

Connery iconic Bond but not smart enough all muscle and not enough brain,Moore-charm and IQ no muscle, Lazenby- passable, deserved a second shot, Dalton-cardboard acting,no charm Brosnan-dead on, Craig-good "spy" but not Bond, he is playing an older Jason Bourne not James Bond

Even if its just for two minutes!! I know, I know, "Wolverine is not about the costume..." and "The costume won't make sense in this film..." and blah blah blah, but come on already! Would you have a Spider-Man movie with no costume? Of course not! I know it'll never happen, but it's fun to bitch anyway.
-
Maggie Q could be great in several roles in a lost-in-translation Wolverine movie. I do question the thought of having an non-Hydra Hydra character like the Viper, however. If Fox can't gets the right to Hydra, they shouldn't even touch the roles that are connected to the organization. Now if Marvel wanted to negotiate the rights to pull the Fantastic Four and Spider-Man into the Avengers universe of movies, for Fox to use Hyrda and its villains in their movies, that would be an excellent way to tie all the Marvel movies into one universe.
-
"A film that at one point was guaranteed to be amazing......".... Ummm, please....guaranteed to be amazing? Wishful thinking (plus, do you have the ability to see into the future?), after the dire 'Wolverine' film....even X-Men:First Class was better, and even that wasn't great. And where and why does Brosnan come into it?......Brosnan, effectively got replaced (polite term for 'canned') by Craig, who was infinitely better in Casino Royale than Brosnan was in any of the Bond films that he was in....if anything you mean Daniel Craig in your strange analogy (above) - brilliant Royale, followed by mediocre Quantum......sometimes, I do wonder Harry...truly.
-
Couldn't you just say "rumors are false, Biel's not in the fucking movie." Not every news story has to be a fucking story.
-
It will be explained as some sort of Ninja/Samurai war outfit thing.
-
Harry forgets the picture.
-
If a new Wolverine film isn't made, will the character's rights revert back to Marvel? Or is the Wolverine/Logan character tied to the X-Men and thus never going back, so long as they continue to churn out crappy X-Movies.....
-
Lazenby - passable, deserved a second shot....
-
....according to you.....he TURNED it down mate....Diamonds are Forever was awful anyway...
-
R-rated, 90 minutes, film it for $50 million. It would be fantastic (and brutally violent)
-
When he was all we had he showed promise when he wasn't allowed to speak too much but it'd be nice to start fresh. Get some gnarly hairy show tuneless little motherfucker who's not a 6'2 male model. If they had gotten statham right off of snatch before he turned into a little British Stallone he might have worked with some hair slapped on top of that head. Gerard butler used to have the right amount of snarl too before he started making romantic comedies. The closest Hackman has gotten in attitude was a cigar and an f bomb in first class

as she makes my right arm hurt, hurt like a mother funker! ill be happy if they dont prison gang rape Wolverine like the first movie!
-
If Brosnan's other movies had been roughly of that standard, we'd be talking about him being up there with Connery, rather than carping on about invisible cars and shit Madonna theme tunes. As it stands, he was a really good Bond who did the best he could with sub-par material.
-
Oh Shit. That was Blake Lively. OK. Whatever. Clones. Biel is not scared off a turd: Blade III Chuck & Larry A-team (which I liked at the time, but not enough to ever see again). I spent 30 minutes watching Wolverine on fastforward TiVo. It was too much. Agree with the guy previous who said there was a good Wolverine movie: XMen2. Not a good movie, but head and shoulders above Wolverine. My prob with Wolverine was really Liev Schreiber. I look at him and feel like I could kick his ass.

Problem that happens with Bond is they always begin to try and make a "Bond Film" based on cliches first and foremost.
by Charlie
Instead of just a good film, good story with the character. Seriously though, aren't the same guys who wrote the last 6 bond films still writing them? They can do some good stuff. However bring them in to punch up a worth script or story. Some of the non flemming books have been quite decent. Just make one of them. Or re-adapt from elements removed for the original adaptions of the flemming books. Oh Wolverine... They need to get someone that does serious films. Let Jackman bring the humour only from his natural charm. Not from the script. Or go left field get someone like Brad Bird to go more serious.
-
Literally ANYBODY. Insert female ingenue's name here. Hugh Jackman wasn't a known name before he got Wolverine, so why can't the same thing happen for the unknown actress who plays Viper?
-
yes, she's nice to look at, but let's look at the facts - she was a pretty face on a tired family show who got TMZ-ish attention by showing some skin in a magazine and suddenly got famous for this publicity machine stunt. since then - has not been in one film that i would ever choose to see again, and she's made a lot of movies. i need my leading ladies to have some discernible personality. she's pretty interchangeable with any attractive actress with brown hair.
-

The most 1 dimensional Character in the X-men universe, never have I cared less for any A list character, and ever since his official origin has been released I care even less. I'd much rather see the origin of Cable, but that would cost Fox too much money. Hell I would honestly rather see a Origin movie of Cyclops, then watch another second of the most overhyped character in the Marvel universe. Now What would really be interesting is if they make that Deadpool comedy.

I don't know why Marvel doesn't treat Wolverine as they would Iron Man, Captain America, etc.
by Transhuman
That Origins movie was garbage from what I remember. Marvel doesn't always have the greatest films, but they never seem to do worse than average, if not better (at least lately). I found it surprising how bad that Wolverine movie was, how they could allow that to happen. It seemed to me Marvel tackled the problem when they hired a director like Darren Aronofsky. Once he dropped, they should have gone out and gotten someone else of that caliber. Now it just seems they're making the same mistakes again. Disappointing, I feel like Wolverine could be big for them. Hopefully they don't screw it up. Again.

But if it's how the reviews describe it, give that guy a wolverine movie. Though I do love 3:10 to yuma, see how this pans out.. Gonna need something awful good to wash the taste of the previous one away..

Oh yeah... and Jessica Biel has the all the acting smarts of a tea pot. Who needs great acting in a role that will likely be wasted anyway? You want depth in a Wolverine movie? I must be wanting something different.

i honestly can't think of anyone i would feel could do the role of wolverine properly... someone that short? i mean, wolverine is supposed to be what? 5'6"? 5'7"? short guy. and just stoopid muscular. and total fur ball. and very intelligent in a super spy kind of way. fluent in several languages (if memory serves)...and total rage-aholic. i really can't think of any actor that could properly play that role, and fit the ideal physique standards. i really never understood why they didn't play with perception and camera angles more to make Jackman look shorter. or even in the 'origins' movie, or at least made shriever look bigger. i got nothing.

I know this is a big nerd site and most nerds giggle out of embarrassment at the thought of girls but really, it's okay to show a pretty girl. Especially inacase like this when reporting on something that DIDN'T happen rather than actual news. And anyone who says Jessica Biel is "average" and just another "pretty girl" and nothing special ether has crazy high insane standards, is lying to himself, or is so angry at women (especially hot ones) that it clouds his judgment. This Is anything but average: http://www.hdwallpapersarena.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/jessica_biel_02.jpg

How can people say he's getting too old? Seems to me he's just now after more than a decade arrived at a solid age to do the character justice. I never could figure why they put out a casting call for X1 seeking a late 20's, early 30's actor. Logan was always the grizzled middle-aged looking guy to me. Yes the healing factor slows his aging, but not that much (the man's more than 100). Of course, the height still bothers me...
-
Classic GIJ episode BTW.
-
Batman didn't use his utility belt and Bane does morph into a giant steriod freak but loves a 6 foot tall Wolverine who loves dancing to show tunes. whatever.

Cameo in 1st Class was great. Cameo in Avengers 2 would be awesome. But a whole movie seems excessive.

Word is, and you never quite can trust it, that Jessica got cold feet.

Isn't it maddening that someone with the writing ability of a middle school flunky has a popular and successful website whose writers can attend comic conventions and travel the world to mingle with movie stars on the sets of films like The Hobbit?
-
I found it maddening for a while, but now I've come to accept it. After all, the guy has to say The Dark Knight Rises sucks just to get people to read his 'writing.' Pretty sad.
