Cool. We haven't had a new edition of BR in the last five minutes..
by Logan_1973
I was getting worried.
-
I'll get this because I bought the HD DVD of the first release instead of the blu. But since I hate these huge boxes that don't fit on my shelf, I'll wait for the smaller, cheaper version or import a smaller version from the UK if they get one.
-
Because since the movie never says for sure you can go with whichever option you prefer, it shouldn't make the slightest difference in your enjoyment of the movie. The entire debate is external.
-
You know, because the movie is so deep and stuff. "Hey skirt, you don't need that cross any more", "Yes I do, teehee, because who made them? Teehee". "Oh, anybody with half a brain can make life." "I can't, meanie." "I'm sorry, I'm just a dick". "LET'S FUCK!".
-
When you ask her if she's a robot, she's all changing the topic and crap and says "LET'S FUCK!".
-
I want it now. Probably should get a blu-ray player and HD TV first though.

The car's okay, but I'd rather have a replica of the Frank Lloyd Wright Ennis House tile that adorns the interior of Deckard's apartment.
by v3d
And for releasing this for the umpteenth time, there should be a sweepstakes for purchasers of the expensive version wherein the winner has Sir Ridley come over to your house and do a running commentary in person. Just sayin'.

I still think 'The Final Cut' does everything but put a title card on the screen that says "Deckard is a replicant!"
by Jaka
I've watched it several times now and it seems totally clear to me that he IS a replicant. I don't even think of the character otherwise at this point. <p> But hey! I totally get that that's just the way I see it. I mean, in my mind Tony Soprano is alive and well and always will be.
-
...I got one of those $13 sets, too, so I don't seen this being something I really NEED to buy.

Looks like it got caught in the same storm as Batman, Bane and Catwoman. Don't fictional characters carry umbrellas anymore? Where's Steed when you need him?

Yes, Bane with an umbrella would strike a terrifying figure.
by Queefer Sutherland
Now, Catwoman, on the other hand, if her umbrella had a vibrating penis handle...
-
Nice sentiment, but it's not the origami unicorn from the film. Way different. By the way, bring on Prometheus 2. Noomi and the head in a bag go to the planet of HR GIGER. That seems almost unfilmable. We could be in for some real profane stuff. Biomechanical succubi, babies being loaded in giant 6-shooter chambers, and tons of cocks. I'm not making this up.

wow.. geez... thank god I haven't even fully gotten into blu-ray AT ALL yet, so I hadn't bought that previous 5 disc version in its special "suitcase" presentation...
by TheSeeker7
Sooo.... we're figuring the blu-ray is likely to be the last physical incarnation of movies to own, some substantive THING to hold in your hand, that after that if we get even more advanced in home entertainment quality, it'd likely go to like strictly digital downloads kinda thing, right? gee, at that point, ya figure the studios will STILL be finding ways to make us nerdy fanboys double dip on your favorites? *sigh*

v3d -- but then Sir Ridley will probably say that you are a replicant too
by lv_426
as he sits on your couch and smokes a cigar that probably costs more than most of us makes in a year of work. Oh, and Lindelof will probably tag along. Then while you watch Blade Runner with Sir Ridley, Lindelof will blather on about his ideas on how a Blade Runner prequel could connect the dots between Alien, Prometheus, Robin Hood, Thelma & Louise, and Blade Runner, so that they all somehow take place in the same storyverse. While all this is occurring in your living room, JJ Abrams will sneak inside and leave little miniature Mystery Boxes all throughout your home. After your Blade Runner commentary party, you'll then spend the rest of the night picking up and desposing of all the little boxes that Abrams has left for you. You are throwing them away because there is nothing inside these mysterious boxes.

It's a disgrace. Welcome everyone to the George lucas business model!

I bought the last version of this on Blu that had all the different cuts. I LOVE the movie but if the final cut is the one Ridley stands by then all the others are just bastardisations. Just can't bring myself to watch any of them. The movie is amazing but it is certainly a slow burn so I can't ever see myself ploughing through all versions. From what I understand the changes are only minor between them. Unicorn / no unicorn, voice over / no voice over. Meh... But I do have to say that on Blu the PQ is AMAZING. Especially the snake girls death with the lighting and glass. Don't understand why people would be complaining here about the PQ?
-
If you don't want it don't buy it.

Just give us standard blu-ray cases please. I don't need more odd sized special sets clogging up my shelves.

Do people doubt Ridley directed it? No? So why the fuck do they doubt Deckard as a replicant???
by irishraidersfan
It's all there - Gaff knows his dreams, Deck collects seemingly random photos, has no real friends, has the replicant-eye-bounce. You've done a *man's* job, sir. It's too bad she won't live, but then again, who does? Oh yeah, and the director DIRECTED it that way. What more do you want?

Ultraviolet sucks the jism from a dead donkeys cock and gargles with it.
by Gabba-UK
will not buy a blu that has that as its digital copy. EVER. Look at the packaging on the front of it. Even the studio's now know that Ultraviolet is a sales killer and don't even put it on the front anymore. Too late guys, Apple won the digital distribution war 5 fucking years ago, dickheads.
-
...never seems to get added to these "ultimate' editions.
-
Glad you can see through the Abrams/Lindelof/Kurtzman/Orci smokescreen. Too many genre fans are tagging blindly along. Hopefully Prometheus was another huge wake-up call for them, as if Transformers, Star Trek, Cowboys & Aliens etc weren't enough already.
-
I hope that the "Runner" prequel does not come to fruition, simply because it is so unnecessary. Just give me another kick-ass blu-ray, and don't hold anything back. Take "Prometheus". It was okay, but we didn't need it. We didn't need it at all. Blade Runner is the only movie besides Escape From New York that I got caught sneaking into. The difference being that I only got caught for Blade Runner once, and had to sit through the Al Pacino poop known as Author, Author! I sat through the Dudely Moore epic Arthur! four times before I met with success at witnessing the badassery of Kurt Russel as Snake - and it was worth it (true story - the manager was an early nemesis of mine)!
-
Everyone here already owns this movie but you'll all buy this for the goddamn toy spinner! You cannot die fast enough!

In the 90's I worked for a Cinema chain in England called UCI. I was drafted to the premiere of CLUELESS at UCI Whiteleys in Central London. 20 staff were split into two (kind of like that scene in '95 Dredd minus the guns in the air!) and as Alicia got to the end (Where I was) she eyeballed me as if to say "WTF?' because I guess we all looked like we were waiting for Royalty! Good luck man getting the crush, I remember that from back in the day and she was HOT

Some folks (like me) prefer not to think of Deck as a replicant...
by Plathismo
...because the "revelation" adds nothing to the film, dramatically or thematically. If anything, it undercuts its message, IMO. That said, it's quite obvious that Scott intended for him to be a replicant--he has said it, flat out--but to his credit, he leaves the hints in the actual film subtle. I, for one, think that films can always be open for interpretation, and no one's interpretation--not even the filmmaker's--is the absolutely "correct" one.
-
...and he said YES, Deckard is/was a replicant.

...and he said "because Vangelis is an a**hole."

Considering that for years all we had was the shitty DC DVD with no hope of any other release this is amusing. Oh how things have changed. Also the Work Print is pretty cool. After the FC this is what I would most likely watch.
-
I think there's like 3700 versions of that movie. As to Evil Dead 1 and 2, I think they are contractually obligated to release a new version every three months.

And Lucas is far from the worst in regards to milking
by TheLastCleric
SW received two distinctive DVD releases: The boxed set of the original trilogy and the individual versions of the films with the laserdisc masters of the non-SE. The prequels got a single launch for each disc. There was a repackaging or two of these sets but there was no new content. And the Indiana Jones trilogy got one release and a repackaging when Crystal Skull hit theaters. I know it’s almost perfunctory to slander Lucas but the man really hasn’t milked his films as it pertains to DVD. And the Blu set was a great value.
-
... but this wasn't a fanboy-meets-idol type of conversation. It was just a casual chat at an advertising agency where I worked at the time. But let's get real, we're talking about fictional characters here. There's no real answer to the "was Deckard a replicant" question, any more than there's an answer to whether Scarlett would ever go back to Rhett.
-
How did Bizzaro Sealab trivia make its way to a BR talkback? I adore the director's cut but will not buy it any more, thank you.

by Darth_Kong
Long story short we broke for lunch and she was sitting at a table across from me and looking at her in the HOT SUN she looked like a PISSED OFF MARMOSET. I actually had to contain myself at great lengths not to laugh and I felt like that student on the bus at the end of Ferris Bueller's Day Off who is sitting across from Principal Ed Rooney trying to keep it cool. I think had I laughed a BAN-HAMMER off magnitude the likes of which GOD HAS NEVER SEEN would have struck me dead where I sat that day.

olivehead, even with that dream, Deckard could still be human
by SergeantStedenko
It's just a dream. Why wouldn't someone whose entire life is studying and hunting down replicants have dreams about he himself maybe being a replicant? I honestly don't care if Scott says that Deckard is a replicant. I agree with you, that it renders the film pointless. And I don't think Scott gets that.

I look at the is Deckard a replicant? debate like I look at the Alien lifecycle/differences between domed head and ridged head aliens
by lv_426
James Cameron said it could be that his aliens in the sequel were mutated by radiation from the atmosphere processor. This was in an interview, not directly stated by the film. It is a possible answer as to why the aliens have the different heads in the sequel versus the original. Or you could just explain it as the alien loses the dome cowl as the ridged plates develop, and the dome sheds or falls off at a certain point in the creature's development. Either way, no big deal. It is open to interpretation due to being left open in the context of the films. Ridley can have his opinion on Deckard while still leaving the question open ended in the film so the viewers can also have their own opinion, or form their own conclusions as to what it all means. That is why the film is so awesome. It isn't vague but it also doesn't tie things up into a trite little bow. Also, the fact that the film ends on a somber note, of Deckard on the run with Rachel, who will only live for a few years, shows that Blade Runner is a more mature and challenging film than most.
-
...everyone else is a replicant.
-
July 17, 2012, 11 p.m. CST
Greedo was a replicant who shot his CGI walkie talkie with organic web spinners.
by v3d
-
For me, the dream goes well beyond the debate over whether Deckard is human or a replicant. The dream is one of the few moments where we really get a glimpse into Deckard, and I've always been struck by the romanticism and (for lack of a better word) gentleness of the idea that this tough cop dreams of unicorns. And then when you factor in the context of the dream... Deckard half (or completely) drunk, slumped at the piano in a sort of reverie, with those old family pictures, etc. It's a remarkable contrast from his otherwise gruff demeanor. For me, the dream is a window into another side of Deckard... a side that includes wonder, imagination, doubt. It's the side of him that makes it possible he could love Rachael, and thus the dream in some abstract way sets up the idea that he could actually stick his neck out at the end to save her. Note that everything I'm talking about is independent of the question of whether the dream suggests Deckard is a replicant. The irony of it is, the dream in a sense humanizes Deckard even as it implies he might not be human. So the unicorn is central to the vision of the film, which is no doubt why Ridley Scott shot it for the film in the first place, put it in his original cut and restored it in the definitive final cut (which is the best of all the versions IMHO). In short, the unicorn is one of hundreds of things, large and small, that make Blade Runner the work of genius that it is.
-
And how cool is it that my iPhone just spell checked replicant.

I would have thought this would be the FIRST place i'd read about it. Or at least by now.
