UPDATED with Embiggenable Marvel LogoMania!!! Phase Two Of The Marvel Movie Universe Begins... NOW!!!
The Kidd here...
Quint will have your full report of Marvel's Comic-Con panel once it's finished, but right off the bat, plenty of BIG news coming our way about the future of the Marvel Movie Universe and where it's headed post-AVENGERS.
- First up is IRON MAN 3, which is coming on May 3, 2013, complete with the Mandarian, as played by Ben Kingsley, which was confirmed by the early footage from the film shown during the presentation.
- Then THOR: THE DARK WORLD arrives on November 8, 2013, with the entire cast returning under the direction of Alan Taylor. No such reveals on the other villains that may accompany Loki this time out.
- CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER hits on April 4, 2014.
- GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY is set for August 1, 2014, with Groot, Frax, Rocket Racoon, Gamorra and Star Lord as part of the team. You can check out the concept art shown for the project HERE.
- Edgar Wright DID show up to show the test reel he shot for ANT-MAN, but an official announcement that ANT-MAN would actually be happening DID NOT take place.
(UPDATE: It looks like ANT-MAN though was confirmed by Marvel.com, although no timeline on when the film might happen was given.)
Those are the basics for now to tide you over until Quint comes packing all the details, so there you go.

Better than Thor, which I found distractingly goofy. Hey 'robots in das guys,' did you hear about THIS: http://www.henrymakow.com/signs_point_to_false_flag_at_l.html

godfadda42 they are saying that guardians is included in the mcu, meaning live action
by walt
and i dont think this lineup works for that...we are talking either cgi or motion capture for most...hard thing to pull off for an entire movie

Only if X-Men rights were given back to Disney ... feel like we would see some better movies ... ...especially because I want to see SOME FUCKING SENTINELS FINALLY on the big screen.

I loved "Captain America," but wasn't terribly impressed with Sebastian Stan as Bucky. Now that we know that "Winter Soldier" will be the storyline, do you think they'll recast or stick with Stan?
by The Reluctant Austinite
If they're doing the "Winter Soldier" story, then Bucky Barnes has a pretty big role in it. It's not that I think Sebastian Stan is a bad actor, in fact he was fine for the role in the first film, but it just seems like the Winter Soldier will require someone more iconic and intimidating. I had this EXACT thought when watching "Captain America" for the first time.

As in Drax the Destroyer? I know its hard to type when you're shivering with adrenalin :D

July 14, 2012, 10:02 p.m. CST
That makes sense, whatevillurks. Like Nolan's "Dark Knight" and Raimi's "Spier-man" series, it seems like about three films is the standard for one run of these things.
by The Reluctant Austinite
It's pretty likely they'll go for the "Death of Captain America" for maybe the third film and then possibly try for a Bucky Captain America. Of course, I'm just wildly guessing here and we're talking years down the road at this point.

but then again, I even masturbated to the Dazzler back in the day....

Are you nuts, or, by "built-in audience," do you mean the seven people who bothered watching the vastly overrated "Firefly" during its original run on Fox? Definitely one of the most unintentionally funny things I've ever read on this site.
-
The Guardians- so don't care.
-
cool

It'll be interesting to see if there are diminishing returns for some of these sequels, or if Avengers increases the profit margin for each of them.

Mandarian will be interesting. No idea why they're making Guardians of the Galaxy...
by happybunni
Who is it for? This is going to be a 200M movie starring a raccoon... In no world is that a good idea. I don't see how that raccoon can do anything other than make the whole Marvel Universe ridiculous, I think it distorts the value of all the other movies.

Who is the genius that refuses to release the Captain America films on July 4th weekend?
by SunsetLament
-
You're making a movie about a team that features Rocket Racoon? I love you guys, but I'm out on this one.
-
This title really grabbed me. It means (unless they strictly go Nolan on us) more time elsewhere in the universe, and less on Earth (which everyone would agree is where the previous film shined - creepy Jotunheim for the win!).
-
that know most of their money comes from an international market in which July 4th means nothing, in addition to realizing that an established franchise can avoid stiff competition by releasing a film right before the blockbuster season and enjoy more weeks on top, and lastly realizing that the film may get a second domestic sales boost a few months later during that 4th of July weekend when the film is playing in second run theaters. womp womp
-
Have faith in Guardians of the Galaxy. They have Nicole Perlman writing it. She has twin backgrounds in writing well for space-based movies and apprenticed at Marvel. Her background (scripts about Challenger and about Neil Armstrong) made me go from the worry about the Raccoon issue to feeling like it was going to be eloquent and kickass. No one else would make me feel comfortable with this project - she seems uniquely qualified for this assignment. On another note, the one question we all are wondering beyond the Raccoon issue is how wrecked this team is going to be by Thanos before Avengers 2. Might this even approach being the awesome midway point downer Empire was?

Never read GotG, but as far as the movie universe goes I would like to see this.
by adeceasedfan
In order to convince the typical moviegoer that a fucking racoon belongs in these movies, they must see it through the eyes of someone they trust. Tony Stark. Imagine if you will RDJ's Stark who may have had a few drinks encounters Rocket Racoon. WTF?! He's not going to believe what he is seeing at first, maybe it's the booze? Stark then exchanges a few words acknowledging the preposterous idea of this creature, but comes to accept it is real given the life changing 'anything is possible' revelations in The Avengers. If IRONMAN believes it to be true, the audience will too. At least that's my idea. However I could be way off base where Guardians is concerned. I don't know. Marvel, I take cash or check.

Guardians is gonna be the real test of how non-marvel audiences are taking to the marvel boom
by ahdvd
If it does well it will encourage marvel to spread out to other titles, if it fails, it will make them stick only to the ones well known by the general public. It's a dicey move, like they did with The Avengers, only without the lead in of the seprate movies to establish the characters, that's why it may fail.
-
You gotta be fucking kidding.
-
Jason Todd, woops, no, I mean Bucky Barnes falls into the ice and is thought dead, but he's actually captured by the Soviets and brainwashed to be an assassin. He gets the forever-youth treatment and has a history with the likewise forever-young and formerly-brainwashed-assassin Natasha. How much of that will be picked up for the movie remains to be seen.
-
marvelites loved it but if they use it, they are totally cutting out cap as man out of time story arc...and i think he needs that
-
But why would the soviets want a brain washed american soldier? I could see it if they were using him to infiltrate American ops, but since US thinks he's dead, that's no good. Bucky doesn't have any special powers or anything, there seems to be genuinely no reason for the soviets to go through the trouble of brain washing him to be an assassin. Just use one of your own guys, avoid the trouble of brainwashing and the risk that they get their US memories and loyalties back for a sudden but inevitable betrayal (curses!). Especially given that Avengers already showed us the simple and effective cure to brainwashing.

"entire cast returning"? Erm, thought Chuck was Fandral now?
by Brody77
Didn't Josh Dallas have to drop out due to Once Upon A Time getting a 2nd series? Just saying, it's not the entire cast if Zach Levi is taking over that part (and boy do I dread that).
-
Will most likely be a key part of Avengers 2, watch for it, they will include his origin easily into a second avengers movie because....BLACK PANTHER COMES TO THE AVENGERS

I'm thinking that there might be some U.S. elements behind Bucky/Winter Soldier.
by whatevillurks
Therefore giving us the ole "Cap cleans up mess of corrupt U.S. govt storyline". I wouldnt mind seeing Operation Paperclip(real life use of ex-Nazi's by the U.S.)involved.
-
I just have a hard time enjoying Ant-Man, I'm sorry I just can't see it. As for Guardians of The Galaxy, I really don't know anything about it so I can't really judge. But if you're introducing another Team to face Thanos. Isn't that making it even harder for the Avengers Sequels. I mean you really can't have another Hero vs. Hero movie, with The Guardians fighting the Avengers for the first half and then teaming up to face Thanos and his minions in the 2nd half. I trust in Marvel, but this is seeming like a little bit of Hubris gone awry.

Iron Fist! Come on, Marvel. Get on it.

Yet you complaining . I'm sure a giant dog creature wookie and a fat slug were house hold names . And the lord of the rings / game of thrones we're not the most accessible source materials ever. They are making a game of Enders movie for god sakes . It all depends on the movies creative team we already know marvel will spend money,

Arrogant middle-aged Harry Potter. yeah, the studios are chomping at the bit.

Antman sounds like it might be pretty great.

Marvel Truly Has Balls!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
by crackerfarmboy
Marvel has taken nothing but chances up until this point and many fanboys have bitched, pissed, and moaned the whole way. They have broken every rule of big budget film making....and guess what? IT FUCKING WORKED! They have bold ideas, they find the right talent, and they make it work far better than anyone could have ever imagined. Why doubt them now? I love the GOTG huge risk they are taking. My prediction? It's a massive hit. Marvel/Disney has balls...DC/WB...not so much.

Jamam stop acting like scifi Doesnt deal with concepts like gotg
by Paul
You dont know the source material so why hate?? It's like inglorious bastards in space and they deal with thanos drax is designed to kill thanos. Rocket is quite the cool character he's a bad ass , Starlord peter quill is a roguish good guy , groot and rocket have great dynamic . If they do it right it could be epic scifi ( Adam warlock and nova could be added )

Winter Soldier, the present Guardians, it's all bullshit.

They really need to make Black Panther. It will make a shitton of money.
by happybunni
Black people like to see movies about Black People, it doesn't even matter if they're good or not. Case in point: Those stupid Tyler Perry movies. Black people don't get many heroes in comics and film and such, but Black Panther is definitely one of them All they really need to do is put 30M into a Black Panther flick and it will make 100m+ easily, if not 250+ from black people combined with marvel fans.
-
I don't care what franchise he appears in, I'm dying to see that freaky floating hydrocephalic in live action form.
-
I'm an old-school Marvel Zombie from the 1970s, but I am incredibly psyched for the Winter Soldier storyline. I've read literally hundreds of Cap comics, from the 1940s to today, and it's probably my favorite Cap story arc. Ever. I mean look back at Cap's Silver/Bronze Age history, and there isn't much there worth filming. Maybe some of Mark Waid's stuff in the 1990s... But Bru's earliest Cap work blows all that out of the water, IMO. Anyway, hope they keep Stan as Bucky/WS, and don't go T. Howard/D. Cheadle with the casting.
-
And DC? Welp, they had their shot. Failed. Buh-bye. :-)
-
no one... absolutely NO ONE in the Ant Man, Pac Rim and Godzilla previews managed to video and YouTube even a second of footage... Surprising, really.
-
Hate to sound like a downer but looking back, there's nothing ahead that comes close to the excitement of the Phase 1 Marvel movies. Iron Man kicked things off to a great start.... Then we got... The first ever Thor flick... The first true Cap flick.... Marvel's new take on Hulk... All leading up to the awesome Avengers. Unnecessary recasts (Norton & Howard) aside and some bumps in the road aside (IM2 sucked), nothing can top that what marvel accomplished. I'm not saying some cool movies aren't ahead. However looking at that list I can't help but feel there's a lack of depth because Marvel is still hampered by other companies owning their characters movie rights. Fantastic 4 and Spidey are the biggest missing pieces imo only because X-Men is so filled with rich history that the universe could stand on it's own. Still....what geek wouldn't like to see WW2 era Cap & Wolvie onscreen? Such a shame.
-
One of the most iconic characters in the history of film is Yoda! He's a 3 foot tall green puppet (we'll ignore the CGI horsecrap from the first three: we all fell in love with the puppet). Now, I see Rocket as being a Han Solo character in a Yoda body. Kids are going to go @pesh!t for this guy. Guarantee he steals the whole movie.
-
Ant-man, please. LOL
-
read the comics and see for yourself he is way fucking cooler than hawkeye and black widow COMBINED.

by Wcwlkr
I look forward to phase 2 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But I'm just saying can we get some damn Black Panther. Even if he's in a cameo in Captain America, he's an AVENGER! And one of the best damn Avenger, cast Michael Jai White, or Chiwetal Ejiofor and make it so! I'd want that over Ant-Man any day of the WEEK!!!!!!
-
FUCK YEAH!!!

Why does Iron Man get a # behind his movie title, but...
by Dr. Egon Spengler
the rest of them have more interesting ones? It should be 'The Invincible Iron Man.' I've always hated sequels that use part 1, 2, 3, 4, whatever.
-
Sadly a day will come where RDJ is no longer IM and the franchise need a reboot. Invincible IM can be the title for that new take on the character.
-
Those movies are fun.
-
Maybe Phase 3 will give us the Black Panther. They will need something to fill the slot of Iron Man. Unless Iron Man 3 does so well that they give us a fourth one. I still want a Hereos for Hire film. That opens up all the "street" level characters without pushing them into the Avengers storyline. Definitely not a big fan of wife beater Hank Pym, but I can't wait to see Winter Soldier.
-
Not bad surprise..just.."Really? This guy before *that* guy???" surprised.
-
Just wondering.
