The GODZILLA Comic-Con Teaser Poster!!
The Kidd here...
Hall H is right smack in the middle of the Warner Bros./Legendary presentation, and, after hearing word that Guillermo del Toro's PACIFIC RIM footage brought the house down, how do you follow that up? GODZILLA!!!
Quint will be along shortly with a full report on the panel and the surprise trailer Gareth Edwards showed up with, but, in the meantime, Legendary took to their Facebook Page to unveil the Comic-Con exclusive teaser poster.
The only thing that sucks about it is that it doesn't fulfill our desire to see the new incarnation of Godzilla immediately, but just the title alone is enough to get you excited that this is really happening... and isn't that all a teaser really needs to do?

I liked that it was more of a relationship drama/road trip instead of a ful blown alien invasion flick...although the lack of budget certainly affected the overall outcome..positively (some pretty sharp dialogue) AND negatively (Too many superfluous shots of landscapes with dodgy CGI incorporated). However Gareth Edwards has an eye for characters, I am excited about this one...can't wait to see some first images and/or footage.

It was done on an extremely low budget by someone with virtually NO experience directing a feature length film who was working with what very, very little was available to him. Given THAT, it actually was a fairly significant accomplishment, and I think he can really light up the screens with a bigger budget and more resources to really fulfill his ideas. I think one of the disappointments of the movie lay in the writing, and the fact that the reveal of the monsters made it so that they simply weren't that scary. But it was his first time ever...I'll give him a chance, since he seems to have the uptmost respect for Godzilla and its history. The poster alone, with the original font used in the original posters for Gojira 1954 (the Japanese characters) show where his heart is. He's really passionate about it, and REALLY wants to deliver a Godzilla movie that Godzilla fans want to see - he might mess it up, but his heart is certainly in the right place, and that's more than can be said for the Emmerich disaster.

A couple weeks back TCM ran an Ishiro Honda night. In the original Japanese, with subtitles: Gojira, Radon, and Mothra. Even explain the name changes for Western audience. Robert Osbourne is such a great movie host.

...camera pans through city streets over *hundreds* of dead bodies... !!!Holy shit!!!! That's already much better conceptually than Emerich's flick! I still very much like the creature design and final result on screen from the Emerich GZ but it's not really the same Godzilla us Kaiju kids grew up with (mainly cause they went with a more "realistic" giant lizard/animal versus a more self-aware Godzilla of old) - the rest of the film without GZ on screen is either bland or just plain dumb, unfortunately (obviously). Very psyched for this! LOVE Godzilla dearly!!!
