Here's The OZ: THE GREAT AND POWERFUL Trailer!
Nordling here.
Sam Raimi's OZ: THE GREAT AND POWERFUL got a strong response at Comic-Con today - and yes, for those wondering, Raimi's Classic car is in the movie, you just might not recognize it - and I'm really excited to see that the Kansas scenes will be in black and white while Oz will be bright colors and scope widescreen.
Apple iTunes has the exclusive trailer, and here it is in all its embeddable glory for you to see!
OZ: THE GREAT AND POWERFUL opens next Spring.

Have no idea what to make of it after this first look.

I didn't even know Raimi brought Franco in on this one.
-
Franco should stick to helping apes rule the planet and gnawing his limbs off.

Someone got Diz money .... too bad .... Why does everything have to be "epic"? I'll mention "wicked" now ... sigh ... terrible diz .. terrible.

Monkeys just flew out of my butt! The trailer looks awesome!
by VanGoghX
Fuck ET's embeddable videos. 1/2 of the screen taken up by who-gives-a-fuck ET pics. Despite that, I'm definitely jazzed for Oz after seeing this clip! Raimi's back!
-
If you didn't go see Drag Me to Hell, I hate you and want to kill you. THAT'S *MY* Raimi. And he is awesome.
-
It's just the New Goblin. Or the Night Surfer. Or whatever the fuck he was called.
-
Meh...I dunno...I'm a huge fan of the MGM 1939 film, and I've hated just about every remake/sequel what have you that has followed it...especially that crappy Muppet one...so I'm cautious about this. VERY cautious. As in, "I'm probably not going to see it". I mean, a flying fairy/dragon thing with sharp teeth? I don't recall reading about THAT in any of the Oz books...bet they're gonna Burton this thing up and ruin it. Sigh...

That is all.

Sam Raimi is THE man.

Drag Me To Hell wasn't even Raimi. Cabin in the Woods is what Drag Me To Hell should have been

Go back to Evil Dead II and Darkman if you want Raimi.

She doesnt always drink bodily fluids, but when she does, she always drinks urine, OZ.

Apparently you missed the scene inside the car with the lead and the gypsy woman. That was so very Raimi. Also, the eyeball in the cake. Did you even watch the thing?

I'm too much of an Oz geek to play the cynical TBer. I very much want to see Raimis playful style in the Oz-verse. I just hope he takes more from the books than simply the '39 musical. I know Disney is marketing this like their dreadful Alice In Wonderland. But I'm hoping Oz isn't remotely as bad.
-
Not Burton-y enough
-
Bu, bu, bu, spiderman 3 sucked?!
-
the images are spazzing out (and no audio). QT Bloooooooooowwwwwsssss!!!!!
-
sheeeeet. I miss the ole' Raimi
-
I'm just not that interested in a Wizard of Oz prequel either.
-
And better than his Spider Man films IMO. BUT, to me that isn't saying much. Hope it pans out. I wore the recorded off tv VCR tape of Wizard of Oz out when I was little. Even the commercials (kit kat commercial with a lion roar, fish sticks commercial with emmanuel lewis)

Wasn't Oz just a dream by Dorothy anyway, so this makes absolutely no sense. Fuck this movie.
by Mel
-
Fuck it, This is what YouTube's for.
-
...but if ANYONE can figure out a good way to depict "Oz" onscreen, an Oz FAITHFUL to the books, it's got to be Raimi! I just realized this now...it's got a little too much CG for my tastes at this time, but that can't be the entire movie. Raimi's CG folks have some weird problems with physics if ya ask me, but THIS...THIS has got some real Oz in it's fuckin' blood right here.
-
... and then the craptastic cgi monsterfest began and it was impossible not to feel most of my interest in this start to drain away. Hopefully that shit is being ramped up for the sake of the idiots that need cgi monsters and explosions in trailers but I'm not feeling very optimistic. Then again, why not give Hollywood the benefit of the doubt? Ha ha ha... I kid, I kid...

melgibsoncalledmethenword- 14 books in the Oz series. Not all in her head.
by Elsewhere
and those books get dark and fucked up, way, way more so than Narnia. And Sam Raimi and Franco both suck. Raimi found his perfect muse. look the performances Raimi got out of all the major characters in his spider man movies. They were all terrible. Thank God for Sony firing his ass and giving us Garfield. That's not trolling, that's truth. And all three of his Spider man movies were terrible. Every problem that is in 3 was in 2, albeit smaller. This movie...you know why I really hate Raimi? Because he makes movies I SHOULD be interested in and like. I don't hate Bret Ratner or Micheal Bay. I don't care about the things they make, and thus don't watch their movies. Raimi makes movies I'm interest in. This, Spider man, a potential WoW movie, campy horror comedy. That sounds like good stuff, but under his direction, it isn't. The first half hour of Burton's Alice, with her as a teen, all the direct book quoting, her being unhappy with her life, possibly marriage, all the people around her resembling things from wonderland, saying paint the roses red...great stuff. The next hour and a half...not so much. Although I do dig Johnny's Jabberwocky scene. Good stuff. And the Hatter in jail with the cat scene. The Hathaway stuff is terrible, though. This looks terrible. I love me some Kunis, and some Oz, but this looks terrible. Love me some Return to Oz (Fucking dark!) and Wicked (Musical, didn't care for the book.) Guess I'll have to stick to those for now for an Oz fix.
-
this movie is going to be so francoed up. Why? Raimi must have been francoed in the head
-
I don't get it. The magician gets to Oz, and becomes the Wizard of Oz? I already knew that. Who cares? The trailer gives us no clue as to how this story could be as compelling the original, or at least in the same REALM as the original. So the question is...why? Why is this a movie?
-
...Spidey 3 was SHITE, Drag Me To Hell was SHITE. This looks SHITE. Guy's best suited to simpler, more grounded fare like A Simple Plan, The Gift, The Quick And The Dead. The first two Evil Deads are classics, and I love Darkman and Crimewave too, but he needs to stay the fuck away from big budget spectacle and from horror. No longer his strong suit.

by UndisputedVipers
What I really enjoy about a sci-fi and fantasy films - Fellowship of the Ring, Labyrinth, even The Dark Knight Rises - is the sets and vistas are real. You are buying a ticket to GO SOMEWHERE. At least with Sky Captain, there was visually something interesting going on. Alice in Wonderland and this look like video games. Maybe Sam will show us some interesting characters, but the preview didn't give us a Tin Man, a Scarecrow or a Cowardly Lion.

If it was Burton I'd say fuck it, but since it is Raimi I am in! Praise be!!!
by gunnarcannibal
The only shitty Raimi movies are Spider-Man 3 and The Love of the Game. The Quick and the Dead is just okay but the fact that he made Evil Dead 1-3, Darkman, A Simple Plan, Spider-Man 2 and Drag Me to Hell and put his shitty car in every movie with Bruce Campbell in as many as he couls should make him a God amongst geeks. How DARE YOU DEFY?! Sam Raimi, he can fuck my sister!
-
But "Alice in Wonderland" looked pretty cool, too. Until it sucked! Fingers crossed for "Oz 2: Franco Boogaloo"!

Like, with a British accent: "Ahhhss". I had to watch it a second time to realize she said "You're in OZ."

Not sure what all the bellyaching's about. CG's here to stay. If you don't like it, stay home and rent movies from the 70s,

I'm an Oz fanatic, and this doesn't work well for me...
by MovieManStill
...the little that is in the trailer. They are indeed throwing in various Baum creatures from the books, but the cheese factor seems high. The mattes and painted backdrops of the '39 classic have charm...this just looks gaudy. I'm no whiner, and have been waiting anxiously for footage. I wasn't expecting this.
-
Let's face it. They'll never make movies like they used to. Big movies simple stories all hand crafted. That's why the older movies are so good. Especially the Wizard of Oz it's like trying to reproduce Michelangelo. It may look like the Wizard of Oz even with Raimi aboard, who I am a huge fan of, it just will not impact the over-consuming-of-popular-fiction audience of today. The original is as sacred as nursery rhymes and fairy tales. Movies don't leave much to the imagination anymore. But go ahead Disney give us a living breathing Oz that just can't sit still for one moment so I won't care about the convoluted plot with a weak ending and...oh look it's a little fairy with sharp teeth! You can sell that one right next to the pokemons.

-Franco in front of a green screen -Franco talks to a tennis ball in front of a green screen -Franco in a basket in front of a green screen. Don't worry, the balloon part will be CGI as well. -Debating whether or not to put Franco in a green spandex suit and just CGI his clothing as well.

I wonder if they just put Franco in a green spandex suit and CGI'd his clothing too.

I'm a hardliner from '70s cinema. Grit. Reality. French Connection on the streets. Al And Bob shooting it up in downtown LA. Cops are criminals and vice versa (emphasis on 'vice'). I don't do Burton easily; I like my fantastical to be logic-laden: Ridley, Cameron, Duncan Jones, Cuaron. But this looks fun. They even got something I've never seen them do in CGI -- and that is, playing with narrow depth of field, like when the little flying monkeyish creature comes closer to camera, the lens doesn't focus fast enough, the way a REAL focus puller would eventually arrive at focus. Also, ever noticed how EVERY moving element in a CGI shot is perfectly composed and anticipated by the virtual camera? Doesn't happen in real life that way, there's always a slight lag time of the Camera Operator catching up to the action. Avatar got a lot of that right. Anyway, this looks fun and I am about as far from the core demographic as possible.
-
Oh not that anyone cares, I barely do myself, but I'm starting to collect a list of the usual phrases in all Talkbacks. You know, things like -- FACT!!! That is all [was funny -- in M.A.S.H. (1970)] Just sayin' (time to retire that one) There'll be a hundred more.

Wonder if the Witch of the West will be called Elfalba, or however it's spelled. I think it looks pretty cool, but not something I'd pay to watch in a theatre.

Pass.
-
That's all it looked like to me. Never thought I'd find myself saying this, but I am getting **so fucking sick and tired** of seeing Mila Kunis's little round face popping up in everything these days.
-
Of course you all do realize that if this movie does succeed they will remake The Wizard Of Oz.
-
I just hope he doesn't make something as uninspired as Alice in Wonderland, even if that film made a billion. Still, Raimi is a better filmmaker than Burton when it comes to doing the crazy visuals and being able to tell a decent story. Franco is a strange casting choice, but I guess after Downey dropped out they had to go with someone else. It's rare to get that 127 hours type performance from Franco, he is very limited.
-
I'm a Oz geek tho
-
Pity he turned it down. Seems like he would have been a perfect fit for their take on the character. Next they offered it to Johnny Depp, who also turned it down. Their third choice was inexplicably James Franco.
-
go go godzilla!
-
Too bad it's called "Oz The Great and Powerful" since Oz is the name of the land and not the name of the Wizard.
-
And that was that it was ALL A DREAM. There is no Oz. It exists in the imagination.
-
What am I even doing on this site, eh? Maybe it's time for me to stop looking at movies and start reading Shakespeare for entertainment...
-
A 3 minute internet search would tell you that. If the movie is based on the world from the books (which, assumedly, it is), then it is a real, far-off "country".
-
Yes! Finally, someone talking sense! If you hate every movie they talk about here, don't come any more! Please, tell everyone else who comes on here and shit-talks EVERY SINGLE MOVIE to do the same.
