ATTACK THE BLOCK's Joe Cornish has found his next project, according to Deadline, and it's in the comic vein - it's called RUST: VISITOR IN THE FIELD, written by Royden Lepp and it's about a young boy working on his father's farm whose idyllic life gets interrupted by a kid named Jet Jones in a jetpack fighting a giant robot right out on their field. Turns out the world is in the midst of a giant robot war and Jet and the boy, Roman, become quick friends. I don't know much more than that as I decided to quit reading the synopsis and will buy the damn thing blind.
I am reading however, that many critics called the story very reminiscent of THE IRON GIANT, and if that's true, this seems like a no-brainer for Cornish. Along with ATTACK THE BLOCK (which isn't exactly a kids' movie but bear with me) Cornish really seems to be tapping into those movies we saw as kids and making modern-day movies from that background that we're going to want to see. RUST will be made at Fox, with Aline Brosh McKenna (THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA) writing the script. I'm a huge ATTACK THE BLOCK fan, so I'm all over this.
