THE HOBBIT has it's Comic Con poster out too!
Hey folks, Harry here... Well Peter has wrapped shooting THE HOBBIT, now begins the endless torment and discovery of the editing room. Peter Jackson will be heading to Comic Con to give the geeks there a preview and an opportunity to learn more directly from the director. Can't wait to hear how it goes, and now, here's THE HOBBIT Comic Con poster:

Good morning!

48fps and 3D are nice gimmicks but they don't erase the fact that Peter Jackson couldn't direct a good movie if his life depended on it.
by MENTALDOMINANCE
-
Hobbit that!
-
July 7, 2012, 3:09 p.m. CST
Yet studios will give Michael Bay or Peter Jackson infinite money to make more CGI shitfests and you guys will continue to eat it up like the sheep you are.
by MENTALDOMINANCE
-
July 7, 2012, 3:10 p.m. CST
And you guys will support ANYTHING so long as it has a "genre" association, is rendered in shitfest CGI vision and sucks.
by MENTALDOMINANCE
-
Just kidding, looks great!

@ mentaldominance. I am a sheep and I am happy and content as must sheep are. You on the other hand sound miserable.

Maybe "The Hobbit" refers to the guy who took the picture of Gandalf?
-
Makes sense, the guy who took the picture is definitely standing lower. Could be Bilbo, or one of the 13 dwarves.
-
This is the film I'm looking forward the most this year.
-
So I gather you hated the LOTR films as well when you're saying Jackson can't direct a good film? If so, why are you even bothering to look at a poster to a "prequel" for those films let alone comment on it?
-

Mentaldominance? Like a vanity plate that says, "I'm Cool."
by psychosomatic
If you have to tell us of your mentaldominance... well, you haven't proven it with your comments. HARRY - these talkbacks have become littered with garbage like this. This site should be for those with a love of film, not for those just looking for a place to gripe like four year old children. I love Jackson and living in L.A. it was an event going to see them with my circle of friends... and I come story department, literary and a producing background, which I would like to think suggests I know what I am talking about.

His films I've seen are; Lovely bones, King Kong, Frighteners, Heavenly creatures & The 3 rings films. I did like them all, bar the two towers and return of the king. I thought those two were really lacking actually. From the list I'd say I've watched and re-watched Frighteners the most.

nice poster but they needed to add the elves or Gollum somewhere to make it epic
by Titus05
-
I love the epic scope of this poster. Its heralds good things to come. The new Hobbit movie is going to be so cool.
-
It's for everyone else. LOTR became a pop culture hit. Most morons out there don't even know what The Hobbit is... So this poster brings out one of the most memorable characters from LOTR so it basically is saying to idiots out there "Hey remember LOTR? Well this is the next one!". So as a poster it's fine. Also to those who hate geeky stuff and "genre" films. Well then what the fuck are you doing here and what the fuck do you watch for entertainment? The anti-geek shit people try and do on these TB's is hilarious. You do know where you are right? So trying to act "cooler" than geeks but doing it here makes you the biggest fucking idiot of all time. Congrats.

-
Oh no? How awful? The sky is falling?
-
Bad Taste is one of my faves. Liked Feebles and Braindead though they both suffer from bloated middle sections imo. Feebles is a bit of a chore to watch nowadays Have yet to see Forgotten Silver or whatever the film he co-directed was. Heavenly Creatures was a surprising change of direction and I thought it was ok. Didn't like The Frighteners as much as I thought I would. Liked Fellowship most out of the LotR trilogy. Kong didn't grab me. Haven't watched The Lovely Bones. Quite looking forward to The Hobbit movies. Bad Taste wins for me. Seem to recall Jackson being a bit dismissive of his early work in his Oscar speech. Not cool!
-
The Two Towers had the perfect chance to end on an awesome cliffhanger, when Sam thought Frodo was dead. But no, the movie had to keep going to let everyone know he was alright before ending.
-
I know "turd_is_floating_underneath_the_gravy" says the LOTR movies CRASHED AND BURNED but personally I'm very excited. And yes this poster definitely reminds me of old (good) heavy metal-- like Uriah Heep or Sabbath... Misty morning, clouds in the sky Without warning, a wizard walks by

Not sure they should have Gandalf on poster.
by richardHarrisonsSteamedCrabs
Just Bilbo maybe. Though I know why they have gone with Gandalf
-
He really is the wizardiest wizard of all time. Sorry old fart from the harry potter movies, sorry various versions of merlin... GANDALF IS #1. This poster proves why.
-
Being that Frighteners was a fave, I figured Dead Alive aka Brain Dead is a good follow up film. Jumping to Bad Taste or Meet the Feebles could be a bit much for some.
-
July 7, 2012, 5:04 p.m. CST
he's not like some version or spin on a wizard; he's fucking quintessential
by where_are_quints_hobbit_set_reports
look at his face, he's the absolute pure essence of being a wizard. The ultimate and iconic wizard, the platonic perfection of the "wizard" concept.

A teaser to be proud of, JH. Onward and upward!
-
1) No "on the fence" gay stuff with the hobbits or dwarfs. Be bold or leave it alone, detracted from trilogy. 2) No campy shit in fight scenes. The back and forth between the elf, dwarf and ranger took away from effectiveness Battle of Helms Deep. 3) Put some tits in the movie and no farting/belching jokes with dwarves. I want hard Blanchette nipples and no Lucas/Bay style fart and piss jokes. Too much to ask for?
-
do drugs. fact. same douchenozzles who get tattoos and piercings in some effort to get a "personality"
-
There's just nothing dynamic about this, it looks like they took a Thomas Kincaid painting and Photoshopped Gandalf in. They just have him walking towards the camera at a flat angle with a weird blank look on his face.

His eyes look old and tired, no spark like original trilogy. Poster cleans it up but it will be interesting to see how much Sir Ian has in the tank. He's one of the best, but father time is a bitch.

...that said, I too, will be seeing this 48fps. Bad Taste: Worse Tasting??? King Kong Lives???? If you do the fucking Simarillion, I'm done. Not that you need my $20 a ticket. Dune??? Foundation??? Flash Gordon???
-
Halo would have been nice. Thanks for the help with District Nine though.
-
Gandalf doesn't appear to be very wizardy because in LOTR trilogy, magic is very subtle .....so you won't be seeing a wizard slinging fireballs and magic missiles around like crazy
-
Now we're gonna be getting Comic Con release posters?!?!?! This is the new thing? Ugh... Kinda cool, but I hate this shit at the same time.

This poster makes me happy - I've always preferred Gandalf the Grey
by atlatl
to Gandalf the White.
-
What the fuck do you take me for?!!!
-
It really does look like pastoral England.
-
It will be easy to split into two parts because of all of the 'new material' pulled from the Silmarillion and the creation of whole new scenes only hinted at or 'spoken about' in the book (i.e. what Gandalf was up to when he wasn't around with the 13+1,etc). We've already seen a bunch of that in the trailers. My guess is it will end with Smaug forcing the 14 into the tunnel to hide, Smaug starting to torch Laketown, and a cut away of the Goblin Army (in Weta CGI of course) starting the march towards the Lonely Mountain...and maybe even Dain's troops on the move. IIRC the Elves didn't start moving until they'd heard Smaug was dead, but they're only half the distance from the Iron Hills and move a lot faster than Dwarves. The Battle of the Five Armies and the aftermath will easily be 1/3 of the second film.

'An Unexpected Journey' is still a horrible subtitle
by performingmonkey
The 2nd movie is okay cause it's called 'There and Back Again', which is Tolkien's original title. The 1st didn't need a title at all.

Can't you stand in front of a speeding bus already? And dasheight, nice try mongoloid but you instantly got called on your bullshit. As for this poster, it's only the Comic Con version but it's pretty uninspired...

What a gorgeous teaser poster, makes me even more keen to see this one. And mentaldominance. Do you know what a numpty is? No? Look it up, because you'll probably smile when you see the photo of yourself next to the dictionary description...
-
after seeing this poster and the bilbo from behind one, i cant decide if LOTR has penetrated everyones consciousness to the extent that they felt an interesting poster wasnt necessary to get asses in the seats, or if promotions simply dropped the ball a bit. hard to imagine a total newbie to this universe seeing these posters and freaking out with excitement. "A dwarf walking out a door AND a bearded man standin on an idyllic hilltop?! cant wait for THIS!!"

It's funny - this is probably my most-anticipated film of the year, but nothing I've seen of it so far has particularly moved or interested me.
by kevred
The look they chose for the dwarves is a bit ridiculous. Most glimpses we've seen seem very samey with LOTR, right down to stylistic color and framing techniques. Posters and promo graphics have been boring and evocative of nothing much. So much of what is distinctive about the story - the very colorful characters, locales, and situations we haven't already seen - are nowhere to be seen, rather the same familiar characters have been emphasized. This is not a 'Jackson sucks' or 'LOTR sucks!' comment. I think the LOTR films were fantastic, and probably the most satisfying filmgoing experience, on the whole, of my adult life. I'm fully expecting to enjoy the heck out of this film, and for it to be my favorite film of the year. It's just a curious disconnect. The magic I'm feeling is from the idea of the film, not from anything they've shown us or suggested to us so far. If anything, it may be a statement about the truly, historically atrocious marketing we've seen with all major films this year. Every major film that I can think of has been marketed in really surprisingly mediocre and amateurish ways. I'm impatient, I admit, but it's 5 months 'til the film arrives - show us a little magic, already!
-
July 9, 2012, 11:02 a.m. CST
I'm actually very curious about the 48fps thing, and hoping I get a chance to see it that way.
by kevred
Would love to see it both ways and compare. This idea of a technical point at which the experience film and video intersect sounds too wild to miss out on.
-
I would have liked to have seen something more specific to The Hobbit story, like maybe Bilbo smoking outside Bag End with Gandalf coming up the walk, if they wanted to do a shire picture. I hope we will see some cool movie posters depicting dwarves hiking through the mountains, Gollum in his cave etc, before the film (which I am massively looking forward to) comes out.
-
That’s “An Unexpected Party,” so this title is a play on that chapter title. The first chapter of Lord of the Rings was, correspondingly “A Long Expected Party.” I think “An Unexpected Journey” is a great title for this film. It makes perfect sense and is a nice nod to the book.
