IMAX Has Themselves A Very Cool DARK KNIGHT RISES Poster!!
I haven't been knocked out by the DARK KNIGHT RISES promo artwork we've seen so far. I don't dislike it, necessarily, and admit that most of it is considerably more interesting than a majority of the lazy, PhotShopped ridiculousness we've been seeing in the promos for other films lately. But none of the character shots, one sheets, etc. for DKR have struck me as conveying much personality.
HOWEVER, this new IMAX poster? I really like the vibe of this one. It's a simple image...not necessarily a terribly inspired one...but memorably and strikingly presented. What do you think? EMBIGGEN it!

I expect Twitter to be blowing up in a couple hours.

Maybe the image is just playing tricks, but it almost looks like theres a figure looking down on batman in a collared shirt above the bat signal. Or im just looking into it too much

Featuring the same clip art from TDK and TDKR promotional material I see.

The third film in the series, is also the 3rd super hero film of the summer. The power of threes is definitely a strong headwind to overcome. Can Batman pull off the ultimate hat trick? I have my doubts...

Some body help him. Cool poster. Hope it's better than Prometheus... or I might have a seizure.

Very looking forward to this.

Great poster, but I swear I saw this last night on the site.

This movie has some serious mixed serious sounding messages. Hoping for Danny Glover to show up during the "I'm Reeeeeettttttiiiiiiiirrrrreeeeeed" scene.

not just some upconverted crap that they use to rip off unsuspecting consumers...I was hoping Nolan would get more directors to use IMAX cameras the same way that Cameron started this 3D craze but alas it doesn't look to be the case IMAX>3D

Come on.......i'de even settle for a teaser for the teaser for the teaser to the RED DAWN trailer!!!

So do you guys really think that Nolan is going to leave it open to have an Azrael type of spinoff to continue after this? Or is he going to wrap it up so nobody can ever touch it?

Wayne wont die. It looks like he gets a back injury early on, spends mid-section of the movie walking with a cane.
by hank henshaw
He gets healed, comes back as Batman, defeats Bane. Finally, "rises" to become the Batman that patrols Gotham every night. Maybe the movie ends with news that The Joker has broken out from Arkham, hinting at the never ending battle (I know that's Superman's thing) against criminals that is being a vigilante in Gotham City. Gordon-Levitt doesn't have the jawline to pull off the batcowl. Hmm, neither did Keaton, so, who knows? I seriously doubt they'll go for some John Blake guy to become Batman.

That said, at the same time I'm excited for this franchise to be over as well. I hate to see a talent like Nolan be confined to costumed avengers his whole career.

This definitely gives us that "phoenix rising from the ashes" vibe that they've been hinting at.
by sweeneydave
I get the feeling that this is gonna be the other side of the coin (pun intended) of how Joker pushed Dent over the edge into the abyss. Dent remained at rock bottom and pulled everyone else to his level. Batman will rise above it all after a certain defeat and Gotham will rise with him. This is the first Batman poster that has really helped me understand the theme of this film (unless I'm way off base). I'm officially excited!

Batman continuing his legend with a younger actor would also..
by professor murder
.. work well with a Justice League movie and more stories post that too. Superman and Batman, the top two DC guys would have their future for over a decade safe for more movie making. Of course....the Superman movie has to be good for that, we'll see. As for the other Justice Leaguers, they can cast around Superman and Batman as the leads, so they wouldn't need to be 'too' important. Superman - Henry Cavill Batman(variant) - Joseph Gordon Levitt - or Batman substitute Taylor Kitsch type if JGL continues as another character after Dark Knight Rises Green Lantern - Ryan Reynolds The Flash - Josh Hutcherson Wonder Woman - Evan Rachel Wood Aquaman - Emile Hirsch or Rupert Grint Or something like that. Start young and milk it as long as you can. That's how the studios do it... heheh

isn't everything photoshopped? Do you expect them to use scissors and make a collage of some kind?

They should put out a poster featuring Guillem March's Catwoman art
by MooseMalloy
That would confuse everybody.
-
The posters for this film have been terrible and it isn't just for TDKR. A lot of films have terribly photoshopped posters with no imagination whatsoever. The fan-made stuff is putting the professionals to shame. Of course a shitty poster won't stop me from seeing this but it would be nice if they stopped half-assing it all the time.
-
Bring back Michael Keaton as an old Batman!
-
No, the cane is in the begining from the injuries he got at the end of the last movie. He's not really hurt, he uses the cane as subterfuge. He breaks his back and then put in prison by Bane, that's where he's escaping from in the well.
-
I don't think they think they're half-assing it all the time. That's the problem!
-
They released the production notes to TDKR recently and Nolon says of Levitt's cop character , “Commissioner Gordon and Bruce Wayne have become somewhat jaded, so we wanted to contrast that with a younger, more idealistic individual who, in a way, represents where they’ve come from. Joe really captured the strength and courage of a man who refuses to back down, regardless of the odds.” You can see the PDF of the notes here. Has a lot of potential spoilers, of course: http://tinyurl.com/7pem2g8

"Chris Nolan has outdone himself & created a masterpiece" "If this does not break the mold and win Best Picture, no comic book movie ever will" "Love the Joker....but Bane's plan is more creative, better executed, and a little more fun to watch as it all unfolds" "Wow. Quite speechless at the moment....TDKR was everything I wanted it to be" Sounds like awesome. Is it the 20th yet?

So you add a review of the summer movie season (of which WotT is not) but haven't even seen most of the movies you list??? Welcome to the Talkback, folks ...
-
Here we go. Before I start, I can't handle the questions. I'm not answering them. I'm not spoiling the movie for anyone. No PMs with spoilers. Having said that, HOLY MOLEY DEPUTY COMMISSIONER FOLEY, this is a great film. It's not a summer blockbuster by any means, and yet, it totally is (if that makes sense). The biggest question everyone asks: "is it better than TDK?" and I'll answer that by saying it's really different. Everything's different. The characters are different (even Bruce at first), the tone is different, and the story is different. But everything is BIGGER and, in my eyes, better. I love the Joker as much as anyone else (my favorite villain in any medium) but Bane's plan is more creative, better executed, and a little more fun to watch as it all unfold. I also don't want to get into story specifics because there's really no need, but listen...if you've followed this forum like I have and read most of the "spoilers" over the past few months, I can tell you that many of us have guessed correctly on many of the various story tidbits that have come our way. Still, that doesn't make this film any less exciting to watch and there are PLENTY of surprises still in store (scenes, moments, plot points). I beg you all: DON'T READ SPOILER REVIEWS. You're all so close! Why would you want to read specific quotations and the fates of characters and the film's ending? I'll never understand that. One HUGE thing everyone will want to know is that Bane is completely audible. I saw the prologue at the same theater I saw this film (Lincoln Square iIMAX NYC) and I can tell you that right from the start, I noticed that Bane's dialogue had either been boosted up or re-dubbed (some lines seemed a little different). And there was no problem hearing him through the rest of the film, maybe one or two lines I missed. Overall, though, Gordon is the person I had the most trouble making out a times, and I also had this problem during TDK in theaters. All of the actors are at the top of the game. Anne Hathaway completely blew me away, and this is coming from a guy who really isn't a fan of any of her other movies. She has her own little musical theme and represents many of the film's most comic-booky moments. I practically fell head over heels in love with her during the film. Selina's motivation during the first half of the film is a little lame, but she plays an intricate role in the entire film and it wouldn't be the same without her. The dynamic between her and Batman is wayyyy better and more fleshed out than it was in Batman Returns, mainly because Selina is a much more believable character and more like her comic book counterpart. Other quick things: The Bane, Batman fight that we all know is coming completely blew me away, more than I thought it would. There's no music backing this scene at all, which makes it all the more powerful. I LOVE the way Batman fights in this film whenever he does. When he fights, he roars and screams with anger and range, especially when he faces Bane. I also think his suit looks 100x better than it did in TDK for some reason. The music was incredible, as we all knew it would be. Can't even begin to explain this to you but the final minutes had me in tears. I really liked Blake's character. Not spoiling anything about him, but he is strongly tied into the story and has interactions with pretty much all the major characters. He will certainly represent one of the biggest talking points about the film.
-
what the world needs is another Dark Knight Rises poster.
-
'm almost afraid to post this after KOF's reactions, but i just got out of an exhibitor screening in Dallas of TDKR. It was absolutely incredible. Better than TDK in almost all ways. Whoever gave this a 9/10 is being too harsh. If this isn't a 10, then a 10 does not exist. Let me start with the story. The story is tied in perfectly to the other two films and I do believe this is a perfect trilogy. Expect a few good surprises. The performances of the actors are magnificent. I can't decide if Anne Hathaway, JGL, Hardy, or Bale give the best performance. Anne Hathaway flirts the line between sexy and vicious very well. She is a bad broad. She captures the ambiguity of her character very well and looks sexy as hell in her get-up. JGL is basically the heart of Gotham during the film. He is a young cop who quickly earns the respect of Gordon during this time. His character is VERY important to the story. Bale gives his best Batman performance yet. The voice is perfect the entire time and you see him go through several changes as a person in this film. Hardy is a bad bad dude. His performance is truly brillaint when you consider the obstacles of the mask. There are a few takes that the audio seems a little off from his expressions but all in all, he is great. The emotion he shows with his eyes, particularly towards the end is really something. The score, cinematography, and editing are top notch. I unfortunately did not watch this in the best of theaters and that may have taken away from some of the brilliance of it. I can't wait to watch it again in IMAX, because there are several scenes that were obviously paired down for the smaller screen. Rest easy everyone, Chris Nolan has outdone himself and has created a masterpiece. This may go down as one of the best movies ever. Certainly in my top 10 for best movies I've ever seen. If this does not break the mold and win Best Picture, no comic book movie ever will.

For all the fucking idiots on this site bitching about Tom Hardy's size as Bane.......
by notcher
Why the fuck are so many people saying JGL is the next Batman or Robin? I mean, he's a shrimp. Does no one actually think about these things on this site? Nolan is ending the story, ENDING, meaning no continuing on, meaning JGL is NOT Bale's successor. Give it up people, that's fucking stupid! And yes, I hope some reviews start coming in soon, can't fucking wait!!!
-
They come and chat, and another buddy comes and he chats. Its an infinite number of buddies!! Infinite!!!
-
Some buddies come for good chat. Others come for bad chat. But none of that matters. All that matters is that you are chatting.
-
...is a problem that's intrinsic to pretty much all the promotional material released for this movie (including the title), which is that pretty much all of it is trying really, really hard to remind you of The Dark Knight. This has nothing to do with the quality of the movie obviously, and it's not exactly like the next Batman movie needs a successful marketing campaign to save itself at the box office, but if most of the posters you see look like unimpressive, slightly re-jiggered versions of posters you've seen before, that's because they are.
-
I enjoyed watching you guys on Outsourced.

two with bane: one of his face on a street, over a sewer, his eyes are shadowed into a bat logo (bad description, but its awesome). The other is him in his first promo pic, set against a red background (looks like a propaganda peice). Unless its somewhere on that link and i missed it

Catwoman's costume is crotchless!
-
I can't help but think back to the "you've changed things..." trailer for TDK and realize they're not going to top that one for marketing, and I'm not sure they'll top the previous film either. For all the trailers we've been given, and we now have a veritable steaming pile of them, none are quite as electrifying as that one. That's OK; we're talking about a third installment of a franchise and those never quite go as well as everyone would like and we're not dealing with a classic 20th century villain like The Joker, not to mention a classic Hollywood death like Ledger's to add to the general public fascination. Still, In Nolan We Trust and I hope he pulls off a Godfather-style epic to close things out. As an aside, any word on a Cillian Murphy Scarecrow cameo? I would be really pleased if they worked that in.
-
Doesn't it kind of look like Batman is going "derp?" and looking off somewhere with a slightly confused look? Even so, I can't wait to see it. Not for Bale, but for Batman.

Nobody calls her Catwoman in the movie? Really Nolan? Because a giant hover Batcopter is so grounded in reality.
by DrPain
Come on.
-
Since nobody except for assholes on the Internet has ever used the word "derp," I'm going to say no. But I can see why you would be embarrassed to be associated with the horde of losers talking about poster art and trailers when you had such a legitimate concern.
-
Sarcasm (and hubris) noted. Careful, your inner asshole is showing. I meant nothing negative by it - just observing that he looks distracted. You might want to aim that magnificent wit elsewhere. Too much to take all at once. Whew. See? I can play the role of snarky forum hyena, too.
-
Please don't make the same mistake I make , I was searching arround sites getting a feel for the reaction from the screening yesterday, and I came accross a post i just could stop myself from reading and it gave away loads.. Regeteing it now big time, However. If what I read is true, This film is going to be more incredible than first thought.
-
Batman's cape should just cover the top of his boots when he's standing up straight. I know it looks better to have it seem like he's hiding behind some drapes. And I know they use all kinds of different cape lengths for varying shots. This is one thing that was perfect in the Burton 1989 movie... that cape was the right length and it looked like it could stop bullets. I love the "memory cloth" concept that allows Batman to glide at any time... that's probably my favourite part of the Nolan reboot.
-
With Batman Begins and The Dark Knight the posters were simple but striking, the first teaser poster for the dark knight rises followed this trend but everything else since looks like it was done as a highschool assignment. There's just too much photoshopping going on. They just don't seem to be giving the same vibe as the previous movie's posters.
