Marvel's 2014 Movie (Other Than CAPTAIN AMERICA 2) Is...

Nordling here.

Credit Latino Review for breaking this - the next Marvel movie in 2014 will be GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, thus pushing the more multiversal tack that the Marvel movies will have now that THE AVENGERS has opened up the scale a bit.  I haven't read GUARDIANS but yeah, I think I'll be doing that at about the same time as many of you are clicking on Amazon right now.  Good scoop, Latino Review.

Nordling, out.  Follow me on Twitter!

    Rocket Raccoon!

    by MooseMalloy

Hahahaa! This is great news, haha! The original RR mini-series (yeah, a comicbook) was drawn by Mike Mignola and is still one of my favs.

Hmmm... this one just wasn't on my list

    by Acappellaman

I have VERY vague recollections of this comic. Who knows what about the dude using Cap's shield? Is it a rare reproduction of the shield? A cheap ripoff? Is he borrowing it from Cap? What's the deal? I forget, if I ever actually knew. Honestly, I was hoping to read here that they picked 2014 for the next Hulk movie. Bummer.

  • June 28, 2012, 1:52 p.m. CST

    I smell a turd

    by Mars

hope Marvel doesn't drop the bomb.... why can't they make a deadpool or black panther, u know what fuck this why don't they just make a Spiderman arc, you know do what the 2nd hulk did, a quick origin intro and boom your spiderman sqinging around kicking ass, hopefully fighting shocker or Paste Pot Pete....

Wonder if they will go with the modern team...

    by ChakaMudd

Been salivating at the thought of a story arc using Adam Warlock! Inclusion of Thanos at the end of Avengers had me absolutely drooling and pissed that we won't see him sooner. Though I'm certain it will never happen, the Infinity series needs to be made.

    by Doggus47

Why does that guy have the shield? Or is Captain America blue now? Wikipedia doesn't say. 31st century crime fighters from an alternate world dimension doesn't really do it for me. Why not have a good Punisher movie, or a Nick Fury movie, a good Daredevil movie or anyone else that doesn't require googling to learn about?

  • Nova, Beta Ray Bill, Gladiator, and Silver Surfer are fairly well known... But I really really really never expected or wanted to see them in a movie.

  • June 28, 2012, 2:02 p.m. CST

    The who?

    by MrWug

    That's a tad esoteric, isn't it?

  • Marvel/Lionsgate also shitcanned the tv series they were talking about so I doubt we will see Frank Castle in moving pictures for a while.

    by DKT

IIRC, the story is set in the far future, and that character is Vance Astro (formerly Marvel Boy of the New Warriors, before he got thrown in jail). Cap's shield was lost somewhere in space, and Vance had recovered it in all its glory. This could be pretty damn cool (and very, very different), but I'm curious to see whether anyone but me cares.

I want to see a Moon Knight flick.

  • "Why don't we get a DEADPOOL movie instead?!?" Because Marvel CAN'T. Deadpool is owned by FOX, hence the reason he showed up in a FOX movie, "Wolverine".

  • Dominick West was so awful as was the Looney Bin Jim character that I believe was made up for the movie. A TV series could work on Showtime or HBO, maybe even basic cable. Will GOTG be a smaller budget film? It really seems like an odd choice. gfy

    by kungfuhustler84

I was a huge fan of the series a couple of years back. I agree it would probably work best as an animated feature, if only because a live action version would probably be substantially more expensive and difficult to produce. But what do I know? Maybe it'll wind up being the Star Wars for a new generation, but I kinda doubt that. I too saw the headline and my brain went immediately to Black Panther. Silly me thinking Marvel actually cares about their minority characters. Didn't they make Darwin black and kill him in the last X-men movie? Sheesh. That was Fox and not MArvel, but still...

    I hope this is animated

    by Kremzeek

Animated, this could be pretty badass. But live-action? I've never once complained about what Marvel as a film studio has done/is doing (well, maybe I think the Inc Hulk is a bit lackluster), but this is possibly the first time I'm thinking... "Hmmm... not so sure about this one" - which is weird. But as an animated film that leads into the next Avengers live-action film (ala "Batman: Gotham Knight to The Dark Knight), this could be amazingly cool.

  • June 28, 2012, 2:32 p.m. CST

Also the Howard the Duck movie was awfulllll

    by kungfuhustler84

I'm a HUGE fan of the Steve Gerber series, but that movie sucked compared to the original material, which was just such a great example of satire and parody in the Marvel Universe. That lame movie doesn't even come close to approaching the hilarity and cleverness of the comics. Just my personal opinion.

  • Or maybe it will just be stupid.

  • June 28, 2012, 2:33 p.m. CST

Funny, after the success of The Avengers...

    by D.Vader

You still have people second and triple guessing every step Marvel makes. All their movies so far have been pretty good with no outright stinkers (well, I still haven't seen the newest Punisher).

  • June 28, 2012, 2:38 p.m. CST

Does that mean we'll get to see the Annihilation Wave?

    by quicksilver80

    Or am I totally wrong?

  • Just like X-Men movies like to cherry-pick which heroes they include on the cinematic version of the team, with no consideration of the Earth-616 continuity, so will a Guardians movie presumably. So, who's in the lineup? My preference would be the team from 1990, but I doubt they'd use that lineup for the movie. Instead, they'll probably throw in characters that are more recognizable.

  • June 28, 2012, 2:40 p.m. CST

Are we sure Fox owns the rights to Black Panther?

    by D.Vader

There had been stories within the past two months that Black Panther would be made as a movie by Marvel. None of those stories mentioned it being owned by Fox.

  • June 28, 2012, 2:40 p.m. CST

    Whatever. Really.

I'll probably go to see it. I don't know anything about that comic, I've never heard of it, the characters look expensive to portray and not very marketable, and there are things that I would prefer Marvel to make. But, as I said, I will probably go to see it. So will most of you lot.

  • +1 for Groot & Rocket Racoon. That shit's gonna be cu-raaaazy. =) Not the biggest Marvel Cosmic fan, but this is really ripe with potential. Marvel could really have their own Star Wars here.

    Vance astro and the future

    by misterfurly

Well this comic takes place in the future- that's caps shield Vance astro is using and if I remember correctly rocket raccoon was NOT in the original team. If they give better costumes than they had in the 70s this could be quite cool- cosmic marvel star wars star trek style with some time travel. This 4tier team is actually more exciting to me than say spiderman. Strange are the days when Thor and iron man and cap make for better movies than spiderman or the xmen. Bring on the second tier characters- marvel seems to make em work. So goddamn unfortunate my fave The FF have the worst of the worst of cinematic translations - I long for the day marvel own all the character properties - secret wars! Woo!

not expecting much from this because...

    by Detached

... marvel's most successful movies appealed to both baby boomers (who were "there" during the original Marvel Age of Comics) as well as Gen X who came along while those established heroes were still popular. and few boomers know who the guardians of the galaxy are (kinda sounds like a he-man story). maybe it'll be a big success, but it doesn't have all the positives going for it that the previous marvel successes did.

I skipped Annihlation and Nova, went straight to GoG

    by kungfuhustler84

Despite having heard the Annihlation series was good. While new GoG had a few allusions to that series, you can still jump right in and enjoy the story and learn to love all the ridiculous characters almost immediately. Also I don't agree these characters aren't marketable. This could be Marvel's second biggest moneymaker after Avengers if they play their cards right. There's such a vast array of different characters that there's someone for everybody. I could definitely see the toys selling well, and there could be a stuffed Rocket Raccoon on every kid's pillow. Then there's guys like Drax the Destroyer for the older folks, who basically looks just like Kratos from God of War, only green. Also, yes Bug was a Guardian for awhile and he's just as funny as you remember. If him and Cosmo the talking dog are in the movie, it should turn out to be a lot of fun!

  • June 28, 2012, 3:13 p.m. CST

I used to read the Guardians

    by Aaron Mcdermott

It is essentially team of people from different planets in the future who all are not remarkable by their own planet's standards, but are remarkable by human standards. For instance one was dense and strong because he is from a high density planet. One chick was from saturn and she had flame for hair and high body heat... blah. I did like the series when I read it, but there was nothing remarkable about them. I'm not sure I'm all that interested. I would rather have seen a black panther movie, or a more contemporary team like Alpha Flight.

Black Panther: The Client, would work as a movie

    by Chuck_Chuckwalla

Seriously, go back and get the trade, written by Christopher Priest and drawn by Mark Texeira and Vince Evans. It's a sophisticated political thriller with supernatural elements. But one of the best things about the book is the supporting character that is introduced — Everett K. Ross. He's the U.S. State Department employee who was assigned to escort BP and his entourage while he was in the U.S. The character is based loosely on Michael J. Fox and the story is seen through his eyes. His POV is fucking hilarious. So, for anyone having doubts if the Panther could merit his own Marvel film, go back and check that out. It's good, I shit you not.

My reaction to the new Robocop design!

    by connor187

He's black and shiny in the new design! obviously looks plastic but is sold (in the film) as black chrome with elements of Kevlar. By far the most interesting part is the new mask. Gone is the thin black visor, now it's more of plastic red face protector....(think David's helmet in Prometheus)...You can see Joel Kinnaman's eyes and nose under a dull red sheen! In the film it will serve as a kind of HUD display.....and I have to admit, it looks cool as fuck! One more thing, the suit is not as bulky as the old one!...... word round the camp fire is he will move with "realistic fluidity"...Like a modern android would and not like he has shat himself!

sounds cool if only for the wtf factor, really interesting choice so I like it. Ant Man, Black Panther, Hawkeye, Black Widow, Nick Fury, Ms Marvel movie would of been my guess, still want to see those movies. Some could be lower budget, like a Shield movie done mission impossible or james bond style would be cool. A new Hulk is rumored for 2015. Marc Ruffalo was great on real time, I'd like to see Bruce Banner take on fracking and get pushed

  • Fuck Warner and Nolan for picking the poor's man Michael Bay to direct a gritty/real/bullshit Superman. Fuck Warner for making a depressing chick-flick out of Superman Returns. Fuck Warner for half-assing Green Lantern. The only misstep Marvel Studios has had remains Incredible Hulk, and they've been able to correct it with The Avengers. I'm not gonna count Marvel movies where Sony or Fox were in control.

I have to hit the comic shop and spend a buck-fifty on Micronauts #7. Micronauts meet the macabre Man-Thing! The nostalgia is strong in that one.

  • ...bring it! Avenger's, like X-men 2, showed that team play works best in comic book films. Most comic characters are very specific archetypes that need to bounce off of each other to become as interesting as they can. As someone stated above, the characters they choose matters, and they need to be handled by the right creative team, but this could absolutely be what Green Lantern wanted to be.

  • With movie technology these days, they could get some really interesting metaphysical action scenes with Dr. Strange. Starring Daniel Day Lewis, of course. But I'm betting the studios will probably go with someone like Johnny Depp.

And, I kind of hope we see Cap travel to Wakanda in Cap 2...

    by ThulsaBoom

...unless they plan on doing another 40's period piece very creatively. Black Panther would be missed if Gaurdian's took it's place, wouldn't mind seeing Steve Rogers take his show to Africa to help T'Challa get a fair bout with Man-Ape ala "Earth's Mightiest Hero's." Have SHIELD not far behind attempting to exploit Wakanda's vibranium, and Hawkeye taking issue with his employer's orders. The Marvel universe has become a bit to expanded for me to relish returning to the single character format outside of Iron Man. Bring some of the lesser used characters into the solo films, IMHO.

  • 'Iron Man 3' Round-Up: Ant-Man, Maria Hill And More Posted 6/27/12 2:28 pm EST by Terri Schwartz in Marvel, Rumor "Iron Man 3" production is continuing to chug away around the United States, but random sightings of actors and costumes on set have led to more questions than answers. Five new rumors about the project have sprouted up overnight and (if they're true) could prove that this is going to be the most badass "Iron Man" film yet. Possible spoilers past the break. The Playlist podcast teased that Edgar Wright could potentially be shooting a post-credits scene for "Iron Man 3" that includes the introduction of Ant-Man. Maybe that's what the "Scott Pilgrim" director meant when he said that "things are happening" for "Ant-Man" this year? Up next is the rumor that Maria Hill might be the spiritual replacement for Agent Phil Coulson in future Marvel movies. Even though "Iron Man 3" is a standalone flick, S.H.I.E.L.D. is apparently still going to have a presence in it. We loved Cobie Smulders's character in "The Avengers," so we're all for seeing more of her in future Marvel projects. Who knows, maybe we'll get more tie-in short films between each movie as well. Then there's William Sadler's unknown role in "Iron Man 3." It turns out that he's likely playing a general who spends time with Don Cheadle's Colonel James Rhodes. There was another rumor floating around that Sadler could play Dr. Sal Kennedy, but we think the general one is more likely. The Playlist's podcast also opened up some insight into the character that Andy Lau recently vacated. According to them, it's a "very different version of Radioactive Man in the comics." Instead of being a major player in "Iron Man 3," word on the street is he'll only appear in the post-credits scene and face off against Ant-Man later on. Lastly, Latino Review has recently scoped out some pictures that tease a pretty big set piece being destroyed in the upcoming flick. According to their sources, the "Iron Man 3" villains manage to send Tony Stark's Malibu mansion directly into the ocean, bringing the fight literally to his doorstep. Thank goodness he has Stark Tower to fall back on. Again, we'd like to reinforce that these are all purely rumors at this point in time, but we'd be stoked if even one of them comes true. "Iron Man 3" hits theaters on May 3, 2013.

    The dude holding Cap's Shield

    by Spankadoodle

His name is Vance Astro (Astrovik). He was an astronaut that was sent on the first expedition out of our galaxy. He was put into suspended animation and was at space for 1200 years. When he arrived on the target planet he was awakened, stepped out of the ship and was greeted by the offspring of humans that had arrived there 200 years earlier due to Improved Technology. When he saw the people greeting him he had a psychotic break which awakened his dormant mutant powers. He got the shield upon returning to earth. Humanity was destroyed by a Martian invasion. it is actually Cap's original shield. he uses telekinesis to hurl it.

The Human Fly film is not a Marvel movie at all...

    by u.k. star

I'm not sure it will even be as much as a licensed film - like the X-Men, Spider-Man and so on. It is probably more like Kick Ass. A film based on a character that has been published by Marvel, but made 100% independently. Some guys acquired the rights and they are getting the funds to make a film; nothing to do with Marvel at all really. Also there's still room for another Marvel Studios film, either in 2014 (unlikely) r in 2015, that isn't Avengers 2. black Panther, Dr. Strange, At Man, Incredible Hulk 2, any of those col still be coming soon. The thing "we" have to remember is that outside of The Incredible Hulk (lowest grossing of all the MCU films after having to recover from Hulk - 2003) and, to a certain extent Captain America, these characters were not that well known to the wider public anyway. It's why Marvel took a lot of stick when they borrowed that %525m (about) to make their own movies. They had to put the characters up to secure the money. People were writing (real media, not talkbacks) that Marvel were crazy a nobody knew who the characters they had left were; the best were gone, Spider-Man, X-Men etc.. So just because the characters were fairly well known to "us", they weren't for a massive percentage of the potential audience. So these guys not being well known, even to comic book guys, isn't really a problem. Sure you'd rather have a massively popular story to "sell", but surely that is the point of creating an MCU? It gives you a platform to showcase your range, your other characters. Because you have a success in Thor, in Irn Man and the 3rd highest grossing film of all time; use that to be able to get people to see something like this. S.H.I.E.L.D, Widow & Hawkeye, Hercules, these are "easy sells"; Guardians of the Galaxy probably couldn't be risked without the groundwork of Phase One and let's get more out there. Give us Black Panther soon though please.

    I'm reading some misinformation.

    by Brigon

Ok to correct. 1) the movie will use the most recent incarnation of the Guardians of the Galaxy (so Star Lord, Gamora, Drax, Quasar, Rocket Racoon, Bug, Groot, Mantis, Adam Warlock Vance Astro, Moon Dragon). I think that cast is a bit big so they might cut some out. 2) GotG isn't set in the future. It's present day just in space. The misconception comes from the fact that one of the team is from the future (Vance Astro who has the Captain America shield). I expect him to be cut. 3) *Speculation here* I expect Drax to feature heavily due to his close ties to Thanos, as well as Star Lord (due to him being the every man human in space). Rocket Racoon, Groot and possibly Bug will be comic relief. Can't see them using both Mantis and Moondragon as they are both the team's psychics and I expect one of them to be cut.

In order for this to work...

    by TedTwist

They're going to need to do a few things. 1. Work in time travel. GotG are set in like, the 30th century. There MUST be a contemporary (i.e. The Avengers tie-in) element or non-comic enthusiasts will lose interest quickly. 2. Limit the roster of the GotG to three or four members in order to cut down on origin stories, explanations, etc. 3. Select members who have at least a tenuous connection to their current stable of movie characters. Cap's shield being used by 20th century man-out-of-his-own-time, Vance Astro would help. Maybe they could work in Simon "Wonderman" Williams as "Hollywood." His participation would also provide a contemporary connection. Maybe an immortal (or near immortal) Hulk. These are just my opinions. Nothing more.

    Origins are unnecessary

    by kungfuhustler84

Did anybody need to know how Marty McFly met Doc? Or where the alien came from in The Thing? No, because they weren't important to the film's plot, so they didn't have to cover it. The latest GoG series began with a debriefing following the team's latest mission and it worked GREAT to get the reader acquainted with the characters. Everything they needed to know to enjoy the book was told through dialog so you didn't need a superfluous origin tale taking up valuable space. It also kept up the momentum and allowed the action to get going immediately and never ever stop. Hollywood's present obsession with origin stories just baffles me, and it's one of the worst parts about all these movies about superheroes that have come out over the past two decades.

Cuz it was an awesome comic that sort of lessened and didn't sell that well. It was great for a while, but a bit edgy for the mega-masses they'd want to attract. Nova and Vance are marketable. Why not do a version of a Thunderbolts movie? The Avengers disappear, thought dead, and a group of villains get together and pretend to be good guys. When the Avengers show up again, they fight. You could do a stand alone Thunderbolts movie first, with a quick cameo by The Avengers at the beginning (to suck in the Avengers movie fans), then have The Avengers vs. The Thunderbolts as your second movie. You'd have to play with The Thunderbolts lineup a bit... maybe include one villain from one of the previous Marvel movies (Loki might make sense).

    In defense of origin stories

    by TedTwist

I'm sorry, but if you've ever picked up a Marvel comic you know that the "origin" is the big set up. The celluloid versions of Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk , Captain America: TFA, and Thor (though not as much as the others) all had origin stories. I say that these back stories are what fleshed out these characters and helped introduce them to a shit ton of people who had never read a single issue of the comics. Many movies (like Star Wars) rely on archetypes to explain to the movie going public who the characters are and their motivation. While the Marvel characters can certainly be categorized into archetypes, what sets them apart is the years and years of mythology that they have behind them.

    by Ivan_Mtl

I was always a fan of the Guardians of the Galaxy series, so I am hoping that they will be using the original team which featured Vance Astro, Yondu, Charlie-27, Martinex, etc.. I don't think the average movie-goer needs to be familiar with the book and characters because the concept is so easy to understand. "An astronaut awakens 2000 years in the future to discover that Earth has been conquered by an alien race. He assembles the last survivors of Earth's satellite colonies in hopes of liberating mankind." You could even tie it in with the Avengers by implying that the alien race (in this case, the Badoon) succeeded because the Avengers were no longer around to defend the Earth from invasion. On a completely unrelated note... I remember back when I was reading the comic book, there was a movie called "Spacehunter: Adventures in the Forbidden Zone" which starred Molly Ringwald, and I thought at the time that she would have made a great Nikki (the young female survivor of the planet Venus who had hair like flames) because it was essentially the same character. Anyway, I think a Guardians movie would be like "Planet of the Apes" meets The "Magnificent Seven" with a healthy dose of "Flash Gordon" and Star Wars." But please... no raccoons.

  • 1. Rocket Racoon WILL be in it. (however he maybe or probably will be relegated to a short cameo) 2. The star of the movie will a 25-45 White Male whose face will be seen at all time and will be an A list celebrity.

  • I wish they would reconsider invest in reacquiring Spider-man from Sony and all the other licenses from Fox, at least The X-men and Fantastic Four.

Marvel's cosmic stuff has been their best lately

    by mullymt

Hopefully DnA will collaborate on this. Also, I hope that this doesn't turn into The Green Lantern. It doesn't have to be the cast from book, but I do hope they keep Nova. He is a fantastic character in the right hands. I could also use some Gladiator action, some Watcher, umm, non-action.

    Rocket Raccoon!!!!!

    by Thanos0145

Marvel Studios better not leave him out. If Yoda can work on the big screen, so can he.

  • This certainly seems left-field. Are they trying to one-up Fox and DC (Legion of SH) with something like this?

  • June 29, 2012, 12:34 a.m. CST

GOTG is actually a really fun read...

    by Red43jes

The original took place in Marvels possible future. The Guardians of the galaxy would run into anstors of Marvels hearos, sometimes even run into heros still alive! The newer series wasn't bad, either. I'd pay to see it. I think its actually a good choice to move into films. It would play out well.

    by Dweeb Killa

You get all juicy in the pants when they show Thanos in a movie, and then start talking shit at the announcement of a movie that will feature him? What the hell is wrong with you? They have established the Infinity Gauntlet, introduced Thanos, showed an Infinity Gem (Loki had it in his staff, a blue gem that controlled minds) and now you wonder why they are making a movie about a team that contains Adam Warlock?? Pull your head out!

    Think Big! Nope. Waaay Bigger.

    by Big_T

Here is the deal: Marvel isn't playing small ball. Everyone wants them to do all these other cool little characters with cool powers or whatever. Think about it: they are partnered with Disney, they just made approximately 8 jillion with Avengers, they have unlimited merchandizing, tie-ins, spin-offs, video-games etc. The sky is the limit. I think Marvel and Disney are trying to make their own Star Wars and in order to do that, you have to create an entire universe. The first 5 movies (IM1, IM2, Thor, Capt, Avengers) showed us a door and opened it. Now, we are going through it to an entirely different universe. You can't keep watching the Avengers fight aliens or whatever bad guy in the big city. They have to take these movies off the planet because you need a bigger canvas to paint on. You need some kind of vehicle to suspend belief and take you there. How else are you going to buy into an near omni-potent demi-god (Thanos) or Skrulls or whatever other wacky plot device is Marvel uses? Would you ever think they could make a Planet Hulk movie right now? No way. Its too wacky. What about Secret Wars? Nope. Why not go into the 31st century and do whatever the hell you want? Then you can alternate universe/time warp that story to our time and you can do whatever you want. I think Marvel and Disney are thinking bigger than you can ever imagine.

  • ...done by the Henson company, in the style of The Dark Crystal. That would be pretty damn great.

If this gets written by Abnett and Lanning I'll shit myself

    by basilofbakerstreet

This is amazing. GOTG is an amazing fun book spinning out of Marvel's "Annihilation" stories. If you have no clue what this stuff is, go read Annihilation, then Annihilation: Conquest. This could be horribly awesome or horribly bad on the big screen but the books are the most fun comics I've read in 25 years.

    Mar-vell and/or Warlock!

    by berserkrl

They've both been vaguely connected with the Guardians. And they're the two heroes whose arcs most strongly intersect with that of Thanos. So they should definitely use one or both.

  • June 29, 2012, 2 a.m. CST

Great Idea. It's like an X-men space opera.

    by SlickyVonBoner

Do your research people, cause there are a lot of cool characters in this group. Rocket Raccoon might be tough to pull off but Drax, Moon Dragon, etc. should be very cool. It makes sense cause Marvel can't use the X-men in their Avengers movies so this will be their equivalent. Add these guys to a massive battle at the end of Avengers 2 or 3 and you geeks will be creaming your jeans. Remember, 99% of ppl never even heard of Iron Man before his 1st flick and now I hear a lot say that that's their favorite superhero movie. Or their favorite Marvel movie, at least.

    by Balkin Flabgurter

why would disney stake money of blockbuster proportions on a story very few even know about? even with an avengers tie in i dont think the allure would be enough, it would have to be one hell of a marketing campaign. But then again the Avengers vs XMEN comics have been huge and probably thanks to a little help from the awesomeness of the movies, so maybe it is a grab to boost a less popular series into the spotlight?

If this is the way to intro Warlock...

    by cw

Then so be it. It doesn't make any sense to use the old GOTG group as the most current team is the only one with any ties to Thanos. If Marvel is going the way of the Infinity series then Adam Warlock must be introduced. Doesn't matter how many Avengers you introduce cause they ALL will get their asses handed to them...easily I might add also. Since there prob won't be a Silver Surfer to use...Warlock and Mar-Vell will have to do. The question is do they use the older wiser Warlock or go the route of the younger more unstable one. All roads lead to the Magus eventually anyway...really people Marvel is about to introduce one of its truely..if done right..badass characters. Now who to play him?

Strange things are afoot at the Circle K.

    by Rorschach1

Loved the reboot of this series, for all of its intentional lunacy. They live on a station lost between dimensions called Nowhere, where the mayor/owner is a Russian cosmonaut dog that learned to speak when coming into contact with alien species. Insane, but flawlessly executed insanity. I heard tell, but I'm still shocked that I get to live in a world where this is possible. But trust me, we're in for fun times. A movie of Guardians of the Galaxy done well and appropriately playing with the character dynamics. The human being, Richard Ryder a.k.a. Nova, seeming the most out of place beside an extradimensional mage, a tree being, a telepath, an alien Nomad, a future successor to Captain America, and a foul-mouthed, explosive-crazed raccoon. Seven flavors of hell yes.

i think this may be a stretch for Marvel, we're tb'ers. we're geeks, they're gonna get our money from us. but guardians may not have that built in audience. I could do without any sequels until I get a better quality Hulk movie. Whedon and Ruffalo finally get the character right and now I have to wait until Avengers 2 to see him again. Fuckin boo!

  • June 29, 2012, 6:31 a.m. CST

    Yes please.

    by Reelheed

This has brightened up a rather shit day. I love me some GOTG but I really can't see how they're going to get us into it. Starlord will presumably be your main character but there's a whole lot of backstory to get him out in populated space and then lots of complicated alien types to explain away before youre even before turning them into characters. Maybe it'll be a bastardized Nova corps with the human character selected because of his outstanding blah blah blah... This could easily turn into another GL movie. Hmm. Now I'm going to buy a big fat burger for lunch.

  • June 29, 2012, 6:40 a.m. CST

    The Nova Corps...

    by Reelheed

I loved the post annihilation marvel u! Nova was at the time my only must read. Am furious they killed him off and then brought him back for a three panel cameo with no explanations. And apparently he's now all into dubstep and happy slapping even though he's been off planet for, like, 15 years and trying to rebuild a cosmic police force inbetween personally intervening in planet scale disasters and battling giant purple spacemen! WTF where is my nova annual marvel?

  • Are you the same Nordling who refused to read Stieg Larsson's 'Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' or watch Niels Arden Oplev's 'Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' so that David Fincher's 'Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' could be your "window to the material"? Aren't you worried that your eleventh-hour exposure to the 'Guardians of the Galaxy' comic-book material may somehow taint your potential enjoyment of the upcoming 'Guardians of the Galaxy' cinematic universe? You's just weird an' shit, man.

  • ..........."the fuck is this shit?" However, marvel have been doing a great job with their movies so far , so I'm sure they'll do something good with the property. I would have preferred to see marvel tackle the black panther or doctor strange , but what the heck- outer space adventures would be a nice change from earth based super heroics.

    halfscan - Bug

    by DoctorTom

Bug and the other Micronauts have popped up in other series lately before Bug joined the Guardians of the Galaxy (although they couldn't use the armor for the one guy - Acroyear? - or show Baron Karza) - I know of some Hulk tie-ins and such. I think he got to the regular universe in one of those. Of course, for the movie version, they don't need to bring the Microverse into it at all if they don't want to.

  • ...and that's who gave Astro got the shield.

  • unless they go off of some Priest or some Maberry stories (especially Priest). For some reason I just suspect they won't have Panther be as badass as he was there (plans for Wakanda to stop Galactus? Now *there's* a country with some serious foresight and hardware). It wouldn't surprise me though if they went more with the Black Panther - Man Without Fear that just got cancelled recently. I'd love to be proven wrong and have a truly great Panther film, though.

    1. Disney owns Marvel and Disney made John Carter 2. Both are from obscure or at least not well-known source materials 3. Both are Space Fantasies on a grand scale 4. Both include insectoid alien creatures 5. Both will be Box Office huge flops (Granted, maybe I'll be proven wrong on this, but this does not have the cross-generational appeal of The Avengers)

The shot changes to the bridge of the smaller ship. A person walks into the shot, carrying Captain America's shield. Fade to black. Logo: Guardians of the Galaxy

I expect a smaller cast though given the budget needed for all the CGI. Star Lord Peter Quill, Nova, Gamora, and Drax (him being a plot point as a weapon engineered to kill Thanos). Maybe Raccoon. And maybe a cameo for Groot but as a tree with a face as they traverse some alien world as they walk by. Could be interesting, especially if the team befalls the same fate as in Imperative. As for Black Panther, Dr. Strange, and Ant Man I'm sure they're in the pipeline. Curious though that if bi-ownership falls on Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch if the same applies to some other Avenger-related characters like Namor, Surfer, Beast, Dr. Doom, etc?

I was hoping for the invaders somehow, but since bumped to future, that is gonna be hard to pull off. Think including namor in cap2 might make since as that would introduce him to the larger world. And I honestly think they could do a world war hulk movie right now. I think send him out with cameos from avengers etc. and show gladiator planet (pay fox or whomever for the surfer, i thought that worked in the book pretty well), have the gladiator and wrapup there, and at end have him headed here for payback. Would be one of the biggest "cant wait to see it" movies .. thats the second hulk vs everyone..........and if the want to lead to a third movie........end somehow with red hulk being introduced......could even try to get sam elliot or john hurt to reprise the ross roll.....

Don't just write this GoG idea off just yet

    by 2mules4sistersarah

The series run was pure marvel magic and played big role in Annihilation saga (available in TPB). And yeah concept wise Rockett Racoon at first glance is WTF but by end of series his combination of smarts/love of big guns and explosives not to mention touch of Han Solo grows on you. Gamorra is former assassin of Thanos and deadliest woman in the galaxy. Picture Orion slave girl who can kick your ass. Big green guy is Drax, hulk level strength with love of big knives and master of every known fighting style in galaxy. Wooden guy is Groot, monster from 60s Lee/Kirby monster days. Only says "Groot" but don't mess this dude. So yeah I love this team but will they work onscreen? If they look as realistic as Thanos then hell Yeah!! PS would love per view of fight between Gamorra and Widow not to mention Drax and Hulk. Last, can't be any worse than GL movie

  • June 29, 2012, 5:33 p.m. CST

could be done as kind of like pirates

    by john

they all have separate agendas and have to come together against common bad guy....... iirc - they all sorta got drafted into a corps like deal, and were like the dirty dozen with powers, for when need to send in small team with special skills......... comic was very original, every once in while they will throw in a nova, surfer, quasar, gladiator, or galactus, or something to remind you its marvel............ and like someone else posted, marvel has been tooting these characters for a while now..... for figure collectors, one set at walmarts got starlord, raccon and drax/groot. Also on ps3 the ultimate marvel vs capcom, 2 of the 12 characters introduced as new, were raccoon and nova.........thanos was in the second one with the gauntlet............ i like the idea as it goes in a new direction, and isnt what we would expect like a snipes panther movie, or a the rock/submariner movie (actually think fassbender might do the acting part of namor better, but the look is all rock imo)

  • I don't see a remake of this movie working for anyone, as the only demographic that would see this, are those of us commenting on it, JUST to see if it's any better. My opinion on that is, despite being a shitty movie, the comedy makes it totally entertaining comedy, worthy of any B-movie aficionado's collection. IMHO, any attempt to remake this movie would probably fall flat in most areas, especially where the comedy is concerned, because there are only a handful of capable comedy writers out there. And I doubt ANY of them would be willing to take it on. Now, that said, if TED is really as good as I'm hearing, MAYBE McFarlane is the right guy, considering his love affair with pop culture.
