Nordling here.
Sorry for the embed - it has this weird subtitling in it and the iTunes embed just doesn't want to work with me - but for now this is the best, first look we have of Spike Lee's new film, RED HOOK SUMMER. Spike is one of my favorite American filmmakers and I especially love it when he tells small, intimate stories like this - it's movies like this that hearken straight back to DO THE RIGHT THING, a goddamned masterpiece if there ever was one. This one is about a young Atlanta boy, transplanted for the summer to Brooklyn to live with his grandfather, a fiery preacher. I especially love the cinematography and the use of color here - those reds practically leap off the screen. It's the slice-of-life kind of movie that Spike does so well:
RED HOOK SUMMER opens this August.
