Here Comes The First Trailer For Kevin James' HERE COMES THE BOOM!!
The Kidd here...
Anytime a new Kevin James movie comes together, it feels like an exercise in counting how many times a fat guy can fall down, get hit by something, get hit by someone, run into things, and have it still not be funny. Therefore, you can only imagine how much I was looking forward to checking out the trailer for HERE COMES THE BOOM, which sees Kevin James entering the UFC Octagon in order to help raise money for some kids.
And then something very strange happened... I didn't hate it. I mean, there's plenty of Kevin James getting his ass beat and engaging in overall stupid pratfall comedy that's become his crutch over the last few years, but there's something more to a movie like this. It plays like an inspiring sports film, and, for the first time, I actually found myself somewhat interested in checking out a Kevin James movie. What the hell is going on around here?
This one comes courtesy of Fandango...

Rated PG13 "Derp"

I was hoping there would be some great MMA films after Warrior came out, but this isn't what I was hoping for. If it's The Dilemma Kevin James, I'm in. If it's Paul Blart Kevin James, I'm out.
-
...It actually looks... OK?
-
Jonah Hill did it 'easily' in 21 Jump St

That's all that matters.

...S.O.S.... I hear them sayin' BOOM BOOM BOOM S.O.S.... I hear them cryin'.... The heartwarming tale of a charismatic, athletically supergifted babyface who can't get mic time or any decent push. Basically, a vaguely rasta reboot of "Gold Standard: The Shelton Benjamin Story"

Glad to know I wasn't the only one who went there when I first heard the title.

People need to can the fat jokes. He looks at least 50-70 pounds lighter which is not an easy thing for a 42 year old to do. He's gone up and down over the years, and in the more recent movies has looked very unhealthy. I'm sure he used this movie as an impetus to get in somewhat better shape. If he's smart he'll continue on that path. People will laugh at the fat comedian until he dies at a young age.

I actually found James to be funny on King Of Queens...
by Nasty In The Pasty
...so it's sad to see him getting squandered on the big screen in iditoic "HAHAHAHA, FAT GUY FALL DOWN...!" comedies.
-
Granted, the plot seems to be the same, tired "let's put on a battle of the bands / variety show / telethon / bikini car wash / etc. to save the civic center!" story, mixed with just a hint of "white suburban guy teaches underprivileged kids to overcome the odds" (although it appears that in this case, the kids are also white suburbanites as well?), but it does feel like a decent film for once. Shouldn't have given away the basketball hoop springboard joke, though. That would've killed in the movie itself if people hadn't already seen it a dozen times in the trailers/TV ads.

One of the most underrated sitcoms of all time. Everybody Loves Raymond got the critical love, while KOQ was dismissed as "fat guy loves hot girl" tripe. Not so. The show was very funny, bordering on surreal, particularly the subplots involving Patton Oswalt and Jerry Stiller. Stiller, in particular, was GLORIOUS as Arthur Spooner. Comedic genius. I will fight anyone who disagrees.

hopefully anyway.

It seems a lot of people have umbrage with Kevin James but just taken on face value, from this trailer, I think this could be quite a nice little film. Something that inspires hope, courage and a little bit of positivity in the world - especially in an area like schools where it should be overflowing - can't be a bad thing. And if there are a few fat man/flatulence jokes along the way that are actually funny then even better. So what if it looks like a simple movie you can watch with your mother?!
-
That is all.
-
Did you know he actually played a villian in an episode of Sammo Hung's Martial Law TV series? He actually had a pretty good fight scene versus Bas Rutten. kiaikick trivia of the day lol

would be a better movie starring Henry Rollins and not a comedy
by Cobb05
Kevin James was good in King of Queens, but his movies have all sucked. Every Kevin James movie makes you think how much better the movie could've been. I think being friends with Adam Sandler has rubbed off on his movies. The trailer doesn't look horrible, but again, it makes you think how much better the movie could've been. Also Henry Rollins in the roll, playing a pissed off teacher in sort of a Bad Santa, dark comedy would've killed ass. And sadly Salma hasn't been in a good movie since probably Dogma.
-
It looks like the script, direction, etc. of this movie were handled by someone with a half of a working brain cell. It's nice to see Kevin James doing something with slightly more substance, at the very least, than "fat guy fall down" like everybody else has said. Maybe this movie will be the thing to prove whether he has any actual chops for this whole acting thing.

banned-ki-moon, sorry about your junior high experience.
by where_are_quints_hobbit_set_reports
It's okay, bro. Lots of us had a tough time in the locker room. The important thing is that you get past your bitterness. It's holding you back from being the person you SHOULD be. You should be a strong, proud man, banned-ki-moon, not someone who keeps his shirt on while having sex, not a man who wears too much deodorant because he keeps finding excuses not to take a shower. I know it's tough-- you picture their laughing faces, their crude mockery, their hands on your soft, cringing body-- but you need to confront what happened to you, banned-ki-moon, and move forward with your life. For all of our sakes.
-
I like Kevin James, glad to see him get a movie that looks a notch up from the material he's been working with.
-
At least close to what the teacher character was going through. And that movie was very well done. I don't know about this one
-
I was an extra on this movie and kevins back legs arms and pecs were really toned he just had a like a beer gut which I think he kept so he could keep playing "the fat guy" I sort of feel bad for him like doesn't he have enough money that he can do better films? He was really good at delivering unfunny lines in the funnest way possible. Which He probably learned from that show. He's a talented guy but he just keeps doing this crap. I think the funniest thing that happened was that some extra snuck in somewhere and ate the directors pies. (wasn't me by the way) They wernt feeding us so I thought it was pretty funny. It made the extra coordinator really mad. Oh Henry Winkler is really nice he kept talking to the extras even though they act like if you talk to the actors the world will end
-
James' movies haven't been my cup of tea, but he was good on King of Queens and his standup was good, too. I've always kind of pulled for him to make a good film. This time, it looks like he might've finally done it. I'll check this one out.
-
His stand-up special on Comedy Central before King of Queens got huge and he started on the Paul Fart train was excellent. The guy can be funny. I'm actually intrigued. Be honest - before Big Fan, who knew Patton Oswald had real dramedy ability? And look at him now. This could be that movie for him.
-
No one wants to hear about what your dad did to you in the locker room of the Y. Some people just dont like black people. Deal with it.

God. Damn.

oh cimmarian77, if only your hero Conan had been there to protect you.
by where_are_quints_hobbit_set_reports
Then those dusky darklanders would NEVER have been able to get away with what they did to you, those many years ago... ...and you would not today be crippled by hate towards black folks... Hate, when you see them on the street... hate... hate and yet... also desire!! It must be tough, Cimmarian77, being a 35-yr-old who's never been with a woman... but on the flip side, at least you can honestly say you're not a virgin...
-
Yes, I have seen his wife. It's amazing what money can do.

James does look like he's trimmed a bit, and as a middle aged man myself, I know weight is a constant battle.
by openthepodbaydoorshal
But the schlubby guy with the hot girlfriend/wife is so tired. I thought According To Jim killed that cliche. And this is a "fat guy keeps getting the crap beat out of him" movie that James keeps finding himself in after Paul Blart. Its funny when a fat guy gets hurt cuz he's fat..he's padded, he can't feel it... Uh huh

Or maybe the trailer is just brilliantly cut, but it kind of looks good. Sort of.

Well, cimmarian77, you're older than Robert Howard was when he died.
by where_are_quints_hobbit_set_reports
He'd already written everything he wrote and killed himself, long before he reached your age. so... what exactly do you have to show for your time on earth, besides some recycled, secondhand hatespeech?
-
my original remark that triggered this bizarre anti-black firestorm was that Vince McMahon, the wrestling promoter, "doesn't care about black people." It was a send-up of Kanye saying that about George Bush, in reference to the fact that I'd thought this movie was about Kofi Kingston, a black wrestler who works for Vince McMahon. If something that random and inane sparks such a conflagration of racist butthurt, then I'm obviously dealing with people who got some serious chips on their shoulders... ...I recommend you "go and brush your shoulders off."
-
Dude, i just told you. I rape your family. Thats what i can show. Jesus, at least read my posts before you respond.

Nacho Libre is a fantastic film. Love it. And yes, black wrestlers are treated like second class citizens in the WWE.

You say to read your posts; you mean the po you mean the posts wher you mean the posts where you flailingly post only half a subject line, because your spastic overexcited involuntary movements strike the enter key too ear too early?? Those posts? The only thing those posts tell me is that you're a spastic twat. Oh wait... that's the same thing all your posts tell me.

This Kevin James flick looks NO different than most of his previous movies and you verbally fellate it. The new Spidey movie is set to come out and 3 out of 4 of you shit down it's throat. Is it just the modern-day obsession with going against the grain at work here? Like, it's cool to have the unpopular opinion? I mean seriously, what the fuck?
-
I think you feel that way because of what is at stake. This is just another Kevin James movie...no biggie. And it doesn't seem to suck as much as the previous ones. I would not say they're verbally fellating it. Now Spider-Man is a character geeks absolutely love. When the trailer has a few things that makes them cringe, they feel it a little more than any Kevin James movie.
-
I don't know why everybody ripped on it. Not a great comedy but pretty funnyand worth a rental

Lost respect for James after he stole the Paul Blart screenplay
by Dr. Hfuhruhurr

Both of those were more or less solid "good" movies, PG-13, mostly inoffensive, semi-family movies. Really this seems to fit that demographic (8-88), where not only is it geared towards everyone- it really looks like it hits most of the marks. I don't know how well it's known but Kevin James is one of the UFC's biggest celebrity supporters.

Looks good- like a comedy version of warrior (which was a really overrated film,by the way)
by Father
Warrior was well acted but really dull and unsatisfying. The blurb on the posters that claimed that the film was "all the rocky movies rolled into one" was bullshit- most of the rocky movies were absorbing and inspirational , warrior was neither. Bring the boom does look entertaining though, I'll check it out.

by impossibledreamers
At 2:01... dude's got some real arm definition going there. And you can tell by looking at he may still be a big guy but he's a quite a bit trimmed down from Blart. Besides, isn't the whole point here that he's a regular guy who does this, not some athlete from the start?
