Casey Affleck Is Lined Up To Tell The Josh Hamilton Story!!
The Kidd here...
Casey Affleck is set up to write and direct a biopic about current Texas Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton, after Hamilton entrusted the rights to his story to Thunder Road Pictures, according to Deadline.
Hamilton has lived the type of overcoming the odds story that sports films are usually made of, making this perfect source material to be turned into a Hollywood feature. The 2010 American League MVP and former #1 overall draft pick in 1999 overcame a tremendous substance abuse problem, including smoking crack at one point, and what seemed like a waste of talent before finding religion and turning his life around. He got another chance at baseball, and has helped lead the Rangers to back-to-back World Series appearances.
There's no timetable as to how quickly this untitled pic may come together, but it looks like Warner Bros. is going to get first look at it before it gets shopped around everywhere else. This is one of those feel good stories that has box office dollars written all over it...
I'm most curious as to who they might find to play Hamilton.

This is "cool" news? I'm surprised you guys haven't posted the new Chucky movie news yet.

He's probably too old, but he looks like Hamilton. They will probably get Timberlake.

Except that he relapsed last year. So maybe it could be a trilogy.

And then hit 4 homers in a game this year.

in case you hadn't noticed, this site stopped reporting "cool news" a long time ago. now all you get are incoherent rambles from harry, posts about stories from other sources, pointless articles like BTSPOTD (which is kind of cool, but not news) and reviews that just reek of who got corporate swag and who didn't. not to mention the need to shamelessly pimp out stuff for sale over at amazon, even while telling you that it sucks. thats what gets me the most. you can say that its necessary for revenue to keep the site running all you want, but come on. think about how much of your bandwidth is taken up by posting 'articles' that are nothing but advertisements looking to sell shit. i'd have given up on this site long ago if i wasn't the type of guy stuck in the past and hoping to maybe see a resurgence of that which i once loved.
-
is just fucking annoying. You ALWAYS had incoherent ramblings from Harry AND reviews that reeked of corporate swag. Where do you think "plant" came from? And, yes, back in the day (1999), Harry would post tons of rumors from fake insiders that said shit like "Sean Penn is totally going to make a Guy Gardner movie," and then we'd get all excited only to find out it is bullshit. Those were the days! I am all for complaining about this site -- I find it vexing, most days; mainly because of the people who write for it -- but let's not look at the past through some sort of prism of the "good old days." They weren't that great.

Still haven't made it out to a game yet this season...GO RANGERS!
by kidicarus
On the other hand, this could be a bad idea. The poor guy's already feeling the stress of constant media spotlight on him, I don't want him to relapse....again.

Screw this. When we getting a George Hamilton Biopic?
by Obi Wanna Cannoli
This has $$$ written all over it. Get the guy who directed the dumb movie about the stuttering king to direct it and have Sasha Cohen play the lead after he gets done with with Freddie Mercury. Who doesn't want to see the life story about the man with the million dollar tan or the made up controversy surrounding the making of Zorro : The Gay Blade. Inquiring people want to know!
-
dreaming about how good the Star Wars prequels were going to be and then them turning about to be really the exact opposite and then being praised for its inferiority they ended up. I liked when the site took the wind out of the sails of Batman and Robin, we would've had a harry potter franchise of Batman Joel Shumacher films and the masterpiece of Batman Begins would've never happened
-
his relapses. The guy fights his demons every minute of every day. He can't carry any money on him because he might go buy crack. Go Rangers!
-
Star Wars subparness is where this site lost its credibilty, and people became so negative on movies
-
But who the fuck is Josh Hamilton?
-
trashing TDKR (TRAILER!) in the Avengers reviews, this site will complete its Hayden Christensen turn to the dark side.

People are too hard on Hamilton for his "relapse." All the guy did was get shitfaced for the first time in a year, then he went and sought help.
by Pvt. Duke
The man is massive. We're talking 6'4", about 250 lbs of muscle. They don't need to cast someone quite that big, but if they go the Tom Cruise / Jack Reacher route it will be pretty ridiculous. It'll also be interesting how they juxtapose his demons with his heart. Great guy. I saw him in Toronto signing for kids and trading friendly barbs with fans, and he really does exude a kindness.

@ Franky. I concur about the recent relapse. People seem to forget that Hamilton didn't break the rules of MLB. He didn't even break the law. He broke his own rule.

Cole Hauser does look just like Josh Hamilton but way too old. This could be a decent flick though
by Wcwlkr
I think this would be a pretty good story, and I'd check this out.
-
Hell of a player, but his story is far from over. He had a lapse last year and he is sort of injury-prone. Still, a smart move to at least get the rights to his story.
-

@ momsbox... Yep. Most of these guys only care about their careers, not about being the "best person they can be."
by Pvt. Duke
For a guy to become baseball's best hitter AND power hitter, and to do it all while holding himself to a strict moral standard without being the least bit pious or condescending about it... I'm not religious, but I think Hamilton is the man.
-
Cooper. Would fit pretty well. The height and size issues have been proven to be easily overcome with tricky camera work. He's not as ugly as Josh Hamilton though. But his druggy look from Limitless ain't bad.

After all, he was born to play "The Freak"

Maybe the most talented player in the long history of Major League baseball. He's amazing. But he WILL relapse again. And then again. And again... He has an employee from the Texas Rangers babysitting him 24 hours a day, and is not allowed to carry his own money. Anyone who needs that much supervision to keep on the right path is doomed. It's only a matter of time. I always thought Josh Hamilton looks exactly like Frank the Tank from OLD SCHOOL. But Will Ferrell is definitely too old to play him as a Major Leaguer.
-
I have nothing more to add because I played with little plastic men instead of baseballs.
-
June 25, 2012, 5:22 p.m. CST
How the hell are they gonna get to play him? Certainly not Casey himself? He's what 5'8 or 5'9 @165? Clearly there is only one man for the job: Channing Fucking Tatum.
by GQTaste26
That was a joke btw.

He looks a lot like Matthew McConaughey

It's stupid to make a movie about him until he wins a world series
by Cobb05
Does anyone really want to see a movie about Josh Hamilton? It feels like a straight to video/made for tv movie. I mean, is it going to be preachy, about him finding God, when he pissed his career away and was sleeping in a storage closet? It just feels too Lifetime movie for him. And unless he wins the series this year, you can't have a better ending.

Can't look at Casey Affleck anymore and not think deadly sociopathic killer
by MooseMalloy

I'd describe him as an earthy fruitcup, and I love the guy. The antithesis of everything people associate with the NFL... a pothead who won the Heisman trophy, became a star in New Orleans, a megastar in Miami, then got skittish and bored and ultimately retired after his umpteeth time testing positive for weed. Fucked off, found religion(s). Went to CFL, lived in Toronto, where he befriended some aged cougar. They got matching tattoos. His wife was totally cool with all this. I've heard him say he believes in every religion, no religion... he's "studied" it all. I don't know if he's that bright, and he's definitely less intelligent than some of the football divas he probably pities for being shallow assholes, but he got back to the NFL, added to his strange legacy, and only just retired at an age when most running backs his age have been out of the game for seven years. And he probably still smokes a shit-ton of dope. Come to think of it, how the hell hasn't Ricky become a movie yet?

lol @ wanting a redemption movie about hinduism and buddism
by Arcadian Del Sol
The only problem about a biopic in which someone find redemption through a religion OTHER than Christianity is that those stories dont actually exist, so it couldn't be a biopic - it would have to be fiction. Hey maybe Finding Nemo II could have Dory find Visnhu and now she can remember things that haven't happened yet.

Big deal...Babe Ruth could smoke crack, eat 12 hot dogs and bang 4 hookers..all by the 7th inning stretch

If this were a fictional story, you would have a point. As it is, you can't complain about the details of the man's life when they are the true details of the man's life.
-
Guy is a looser. Are they gonna include how he helped kill a fan. Rangers suck. Been to two world series and lost em both. back to back. Shitty ball club and a bio pic for someone still alive who hasnt done anything of note or won a world series ring...zzzzzzzz

...that the only real risk that comes from smoking pot is the risk that authoritarian dickweeds will give you a hard time for smoking pot. If pot didn't make me puke every time I even inhaled somebody else's smoke, I'd smoke it just on principle. The principle of FUCK YOU, THAT'S WHY.
-
Though my smoking days are behind me.
-
C'mon now. I hate the Texas Rangers and am absolutely no fan of Josh Hamilton, but to blame him because some dummy fell from the stands reaching for a ball he tossed into the crowd is just silliness.
-
As a long time Ranger fan I thought I'd never hear "Ranger Hate" because they've sucked for like ever. It's cool that people care enough to hate them I guess. Silly east coasters.
