KICK-ASS Sequel Casting And Plot Points...
Moviehole has some interesting casting and plot points for the next KICK-ASS film, which'll be scripted and directed by NEVER BACK DOWN's Jeff Wadlow from Mark Millar and John Romita Jr.'s source material. Wadlow was evidently hand-picked by Matthew Vaughn, the first film's producer director who is producing this time around as he's wrangling the X-MEN FIRST CLASS sequel at the moment.
Per Moviehole...
All the core cast members are back, Aaron Johnson, Chloe Mortez and Christopher Mintz-Plasse, plus I can reveal that negotiations are also underway for Garrett M.Brown (“Roswell”) to reprise his role as Dave’s dad. He’ll have more to do this time around. Auditions are also about to get underway for Uncle Ralph, the crook guardian of Chris/Red Mist. Expect that to be filled by someone of a Mark Strong-esque statue.
Check out the rest of Moviehole's report HERE. The KICK-ASS sequel is due in theaters...May 2013ish? ...from then current sound of matters.

And the point of the video review from 2 years ago was?
by alienindisguise
-
Or not. I'm going with not.
-
...and that mistake being that without him, my interest in seeing a sequel goes down by a substantial amount.
-
Not that the first one was all that good.
-
I don't think she liked it.

WTF IS THE POINT OF THIS VIDEO FROM TWO YEARS AGO?? CREEPYTHINMANLIVEZ IS CONFUSED! FACT!

STUPID. FACT! WHAT'S THE POINT?? I WANT TO BONE THIS GIRL! I'M GETTING HARD-FACT!

She's articulate, and I actually care about what she's talking about a lot.

I hope one day I can make a film that grosses less than $50 million...
by John Brown
...so I can get a sequel deal.

It's time. :(

I will happily pay to see an awesome director's independent superhero film. It was a really fun surprise. I don't like Mark Millar. The guy is so full of shit when it comes to movies. In the months after Kick-Ass, he did dozens of interviews where he said "Vaughn and Goldman are signed for Kick-Ass 2! Coming out next summer! Me and Vaughn are best buddies! He's also going to direct Supercrooks!" None of that came true. Mark goes out there and makes shit up, and burns his bridges with spectacular fashion. I wouldn't be surprised if Millar is barred from entering Vaughn's offices.
-
Really just despised it. If the film had been about Hit Girl and Big Daddy, fine. Their story was interesting and dark and uncomfortably brutal. But everything else was utter garbage. Shame this is getting a sequel.

Notice no one really shows up in these talk-backs to defend the first film...
by REMcycle
...because if they do, they immediately mark themselves as the pedophile they were back when they dropped 10 bucks to sit in the back of the Drafthouse and secretly pump jizz into their overpriced popcorn.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA fucking retard

homeboy showed up wearing a fucking jet pack! That was stupid. This one should be pretty cool. Plus im intereseted because i keep hearing all these up tight mamas boys complaining about a fake dogs head and a fake rape scene. Cant wait.
-
Just awful.
-
I haven't seen the KA film, but combined North American and overseas takings were about 96. 2 mill and it only cost 30 to make, which is a very good result before DVD sales, as a film has to make 3 times its budget, to go into profit.
-

True the jetpack contradicted thre whole `reality` aspect. Still the Banana Splits song ruined it way earlier.

Same issue with Zombieland. Don`t establish `rules` if you break them 3 seconds later. It`s ridiculous.

I don't know, I think I liked the idea of the movie more than the movie itself. I'd never seen the comic before hearing about the movie and then made the decision to avoid the comic entirely until I'd seen the movie. I liked a lot of it, hated a good deal of it too. I walked out it thinking that it didn't need a sequel and hadn't really "earned" one either. Just really middle of the road nothing-special going on here. When the second comic came out I did read that and it didn't do anything for me. If anything it convinced me more that whatever Kick-Ass was (good, bad, pointless) I didn't need any more of it.

Hey Covjack, $100 Million + DVD & Blu Ray ain't too shabby

I would say this sucker brought in nearly $200 with DVD sales and merchandising. Not bad for a $30 million dollar budget.

Dave's dad does have a hellova lot more to do in Kick Ass 2
by Tall_Boy6t6
I'm assuming they're going to stick with it, one of the most dramatic moments in Kick Ass 2 involves Dave's dad.

Wanted might have actually been less gaudy than KA.
by Christian Sylvain
By the third or fourth decapitation, I was done with Kick-Ass. What was supposed to be a grounded yet comedic look at the life of an average joe trying to be a superhero degenerated into an over the top cartoon. That plot description for the sequel doesn't sound much better.
-
I'd poke her in the turd-cutter.
-
Sorry, that was misogynistic, and utterly unnecessary. I just wanted to put the work "turd-cutter" in a post.

What cool deus ex machina will they buy off Ebay in the sequel?
by Crimson Dynamo

...now there was a movie about an average joe trying to be a superhero. Starred John Ritter. A real American hero. Yeah, it was bad too. But at least it didn't cheat.

Just throwing that out there.

Well at least his costume LOOKS like he could have put it together
by Obi Wanna Cannoli
I loved Kickass. Was one of my favorite movies of that year. People don't like the jet pack scene but are fine with a dude swinging from a never ending supply of hardened jizz or a guy with a utility belt that seemingly can do just the right thing when trouble occurs.

would someone please explain to me why should we care what the fuck the video chick thinks of the movie?
by eloy
By the way, "I dont know how to explain it to you"? Sure, Im gonna take your word for it chick.
-
That's the kind of movie Hollywood should be plumbing for remakes
-
And I'm super glad that Vaughn picked the director. He knows what he's doing. This movie might turn out to be good after all.
-
Kick Ass 2 is sick shit man. I mean it gets real crazy. No way they put a lot of that in the movie. The first film is okay... Has some really strong moments but over all it failed. Kind of a shame because a movie about a guy really trying to be a superhero would be interesting. Instead it came off really weird in the end.
-
Original style, messed up, goofy, geeky... violent, bloody. There's a reason it made 3 times its production budget, and a reason why so many love it....and why the sequel is being made. Fuck the naysayers in this talkback because really, what do you know about shit? Beside it's your opinion like your shitty asshole. Everyone's got some to spread around here.
-
Yeah, I said it.
-
she's very cute these days so i imagine she'll look quite sexy. but it still makes me shiver to consider anyone found her in any way attractive in the first movie. she looked exactly like what she was, a 10yr old. perving over 16yr olds may be "bad" but at least with the way some look, its understandable. speaking of her, will they make some mention how time has gone by between movies because she loosk drastically different these days. i

First movie fucking sucked.

Because I love to watch our culture devolve into total garbage.

You could add gory to that list too, but I still stand by my previous statement.

Box Office failures don't hit 100 million dollars on only a 30 million dollar budget
by Tall_Boy6t6
John Carter gets 100 million worldwide, that's a failure cuz it cost 300 million fucking dollars. Kick Ass cost 30. It made 100 worldwide. That's profit, not failure. That is REALITY. saying that it's a "box office failure" is NOT REALITY. (If we're capping the word "reality" to be important)
-
June 25, 2012, 6:57 p.m. CST

by Tall_Boy6t6

Vaughn isn't involved at all, Millar just likes to tell lies a lot in order to drum up attention
by Stegman84
As anyone who knows Millar will tell you. Vaughn will be handed the old hollywood standby, the 'executive producer' credit, and a bit of cash for the use of his name and for playing nice, and that's about all the involvement that there will be, much like Tim Burton on Batman Forever. Besides, no one 'personally picks' the director of Cry Wolf and Never Back Down for a film like this, one merely settles for such a director when you can't get anyone with actual vision and/or talent interested in doing it. Vaughn could have made this film if he wanted to. Hell, him being attached would have got it a greenlight pretty damn quick these days, but he chose to move on and concentrate on other projects (including his X-Men sequel), ones with budgets and potentially brighter futures. Hell, given the rate at which Millar tends to...exaggerate...I won't believe that this film is happening until cameras start to roll. And then, maybe...

Reading the recap of Kick Ass 2 it sounds terrible.

Did you know you need to be trained to fly them? Or that they cannot take the added weight of two machine guns + a ton of ammo? Get real, man. The film utterly failed to own up to its premise, and was totally empty and meaningless as a result.
-
As a film it was a fresh take on super heros for me. I can't think the Britishness of it just didn't clich with US filmgoers who let's face it, struggle regularly with non US films or films not centred on their own narrow world view. Some folks just can't handle it.

Kick Ass was mediocre at best. The Jet Pack is stupid.
by higgledyhiggles
Competently made. Interesting themes but no courage in it`s own convictions. The JetPack is ridiculous because it means he contradicts the opening scene where `people can`t fly`. Then in less than a minute he can magically control one of the world`s most awkward machines which requires training and dedication of a fighter pilot. `Suspension of disbelief doesn`t count` because they set the rules that this is `real`, which it ain`t. Lets not even mention how a 10 year old girl can out fight fully grown men. It`s stupid times 10. Look at the current trend of MMA, how many 10 year old girls fight in that and win ? exactly.
-
Kick Ass made 100 million worldwide on a meager 30 million dollar budget. DVD sales were through the roof...
-
Stupid douchebag
-
lol you are a funny guy, if Kick Ass was here, he'd laugh too.
-
Well that's a truly great joke.
-
Look, let's face it, Millar fucking blows. His alleged "edginess" is only "edgy" if you're, like, 10, or retarded. That said, I liked the gleeful stupidity of the first KICK ASS movie.

His comic books are fuckin' terrible and insulting to the reader having to spend any time reading them. However, movies based on his comic books where they take his stupid shit out, seem to work. My one criticism of Wanted was the fuckin' train scene. I understand they are assassins, but they believed they were serving justice. They killed like 400 fuckin' people with that train just to have the main character pussy shoot his dad while he was trying to save him. Otherwise, an entertaining film.
