Arnold comments on DOC SAVAGE and T3 & T4

Published at:  Apr 14, 2000 1:53:38 AM CDT

Hey folks, Harry here with some news brought in from Arteewon about the big man's movements that he read about over at SCI FI WIRE, so check it out. It's nice to see a bit of loyalty out of Arnold, and I hope this DOC SAVAGE script rocks as hard as it could. Here ya go...

Hi Harry!

Here is some more too cool for anyother site news regarding the Terminator sequels and Doc Savage.

Arnold Talks 'Doc Savage' And 'T3': Arnold Schwarzenegger told SCI FI Wire that he's still awaiting a script for "Doc Savage: The Man of Bronze," a proposed new feature film based on the Doc Savage series of novels and comics. "That's being written now as we speak," Schwarzenegger said on the Vancouver set of his current SF thriller "The 6th Day". "But ... I've not seen a finished draft. I've only seen parts of it." The project, spearheaded by directors Frank Darabont (The Green Mile) and Chuck Russell (who directed Schwarzenegger in 1996's "Eraser"), has been in development since last summer. Based on the series created in 1933 by pulp writer Lester Dent, "Doc Savage" tells the story of a millionaire philanthropist adventurer named Clark Savage Jr. Arnold also said he is not interested in appearing in Terminator 3 or 4, the proposed new sequels to director James Cameron's hit films "The Terminator" and "Terminator 2: Judgment Day," unless Cameron himself is helming. He adde!
d that he has not yet been asked about T3 or Terminator 4. "I have not been approached, because there is no script," Schwarzenegger said. "So until I see a script, I cannot comment on it." He added, "There is nothing here. There is no financing for it, there is no script for it, there is no director for it. There is nothing."

Later o Great Geek one.

    Not really much news here.

    by cereal killer

Nothing here we didn't already know really. I still think Arnold would make an awesome Doc Savage and I hope this pans out. The George Pal movie with Ron Ely was lame and there could be a totally cool movie made out of the story of Doc.

good. I am glad that arnold is staying "true" to the vision of Terminator Cameron has worked on for years. But that other project sounds insanely cool. here's hoping that Darabont and Arnold can come together.

More Bad Ideas from the Hollywood Sausage Grinder

    by stephen dedalus

For God's sake, can no one out there at least ADAPT a good science-fiction story. Here are a few off the top of my head: Philip K. Dick's A MAZE OF DEATH and MARTIAN TIME-SLIP, Ursula K. LeGuin's THE DISPOSSESSED and THE LEFT HAND OF DARKNESS (admittedly, the latter may be a little difficult to adapt), or Alfred Bester's THE STARS MY DESTINATION and THE DEMOLISHED MAN. For crying out loud, I don't understand how no one has adapted Bester yet! Well, time to go to bed, or wander around like an insomniac.

    Terminator 3,4...

    by robyn

If done right it could be a good film, think of the possiblities of mulitiple attempts to send something back, the attempts to kill Sarah Conner when she was younger OR older, or the ones to kill her son (sorry I forgot his first name) when he gets older. One thing I hope is that the new films don't have the boy (Sarah's son from T2) in them, I never could stand him, sorry but i can't really put my finger on it, just that he bugs me alot! Any thoughts on what the new terminator's thing (gimmick) will be, the first one was a robot-man thing, and the second was liquid metal, so what might the third be? Maybe something like a biologically designed thing, like from Blade runner, a replicant.

I happened to be listening to the Anvil of Crom tune from the Conan score when I was reading this. No kidding! I really really was! Arnold is da man! Well, except for that End of Days movie...and that Junior movie...and , aw fuck it, Arnold is still da man! Hope the 6th Day ends up being a good movie. I still remember watching him in Pumping Iron giving Lou Ferrigno the big mindfuck. I only wish he can still pull out the coolness of his youthful years.

New Patriot Trailer is online! Get it before Harry posts it!

    by cranialleak

http://www.spe.sony.com/movies/thepatriot/video/patriot-teaser720.mov Or if you want a smaller version, replace "720" with "240" or "480". Oh, and Arnold needs to get something good going before he ends up like Sylvester Stallone. No more projects, and god knows he ain't getting an Oscar at 70.

  • No way should they even consider doing T3 & T4 without Cameron! Jim is one of the top directors of all time, he along Spielberg and Scorcese is one of the true lengends still working today. Cameron has to direct any sequels to the Terminator films if he doesn't they could end up going straight to video. If Arnie is not intersted then I can see only one man able to replace him....Paulie Shore!

That whole patriot thing was a mistake. It's at http://www.thepatriot.com/video/patriot-trailer320.mov But back to Arnold. He has the ability to make me anticipate his movies, but he's been off the ball lately. I certainly hope that his next few projects revive his career, cause we all know that End of Days practically killed it for most people. I'm starting to teeter on the edge.

Stephen Norrington of Blade fame working on the sequels?

    by wesley snipes

There was a rumour WAAY back when that Blade director Stephen Norrington was working on the Terminator sequels. No one can replace Cameron, but if someone must, then make it Norrington! He clearly has an affinity for that dark urban future theme. I think he has a relationship with Cameron's Lightstorm entertainment or something, too (he was editing some techno documentary there, right?). So he may be able to make T3 and receive some input from Cameron. Plus, if Blade is any indication, Norrington knows what the fuck he's doing. And like Cameron, he's a former effects guy who has his hand deep into many aspects of his films - designs, music, editing, etc...

Cameron put the first nail in the coffin himself...

    by agentcooper

...With that TERMINATOR 2: 3-D (not Terminator 3-D, Terminator 2-3D) film/live action show at Universal's theme parks. It's a cool 3-D film, but totally messes up the continuity and mythology of the two films. I haven't seen it in a while, but to the best of my memory, here's what happens: You are the guests of Cyberdine Corporation as they unveil their new Robotic Soldiers, (the endoskeletons we are all familiar with). Those crazy Conners interupt the presentation by crashing through the ceiling, trying to warn us about Skynet or something. I thought we took care of that at the end of T2, but, okay. Now, here comes Arnold, traveling through time IN HIS CLOTHES, ON A MOTORCYCLE, WITH A GUN. I guess Cameron forgot all the rules he established in the films. He takes young John into the future with him, (on the bike) and they have to fight against some kind of huge, liquid metal spider-like Terminator. Completely insane. What if John is killed in the future? The resistance would be lost. Would the Treminator (Arnold) honestly think this would be the best course of action? No. It's all about the ride. The 3-D Effects are cool and all, and you have a good time sitting there, but it's all a sell out, and you start to realize this as you leave and begin to try to fit the attraction storyline in with the films. The bad part is, Cameron calls this POS a SEQUEL to T2...T3 and T4 couldn't be any worse, with or without his involvement.

Oh, and I forgot the worst part...

    by agentcooper

...When the Terminator comes in from the future, he goes, "I said I'd be back!" So it's supposed to be the SAME Terminator from T2. You know, the one who was melted in the vat of liquid steel. Such an insult to the intelligence.

    by monster rain

Without Arnold, this sequel will end up roiling in the cesspool of misfired sequels like "Species II", "The Second Arrival" and "The Exorcist II: The Heretic". What are they going to do, cast The Rock as The Terminator? "Don't make me lay the smack down on your liquid steel ass, jabroni!" C'mon! The first two terminators were perfect! LEAVE THEM ALONE YOU PENGUIN-RAPING SODOMITES!!And can anyone tell me where to find the Doc Savage books? Are they still in print?

    by danhelm

Auh-nold himself said "There is nothing". As well it should be. Any fears of an insufferable sequel can now be put to rest. It won't happen, period. Now lets go back to a "fasinating" LOTR debate. And yes, whoever keeps mentioning Johnny Deep is a mindless bore. He's nearly as bad as the guy who kept talking about a talking pie.

Get out of the house, get some sunshine. Find a girlfriend that doesn't have five fingers and an affinity for squelched-out Playboy channel. You owe it to yourself and those callouses.

ALSO: you said in another post that KURT RUSSEL would make great BATMAN?!? This is what I mean when I say, "WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?!?" Nothing to do with your spelling. I bet you thought TANGO AND CASH was a good movie, didn't you? C'mon admit it!

    Curse of the 3rd Sequel

    by steve_the_hutt

I know everyone wants to have more Terminator movies (me too me too!), but as everyone knows, you should leave the party while you're still having fun ... the third sequel (exceptions being movies that were _meant_ to be trilogies) is usually the party guest that stays just a little bit too long, has one drink too many, and leaves a bad taste in your mouth. When is Hollywood going to get it? It's not the sequels that make movie fans happy ... it's fresh new ideas, and there's plenty of them out there. How many awesome ideas were ditched to bring us these bad sequels? (Ditto for bad remakes such as that new godawful "That Darn Cat".)

I think Arnold better not rule out a T2 sequel even if James Cameron isn't attached. Let's face it...when was the last time he put out a hit movie? He's gotta worry about feeding Shrivers big jaw AND all his little rugrats. Has anyone SEEN "End of Days???" I think it won't be long before he's going back to his roots and doing another Conan film. End of Days

    by mephisto666

Jesus, TELL me about it! Gott in Himmel, Arnie and Byrne were just pissed away. For example, Arnie...well, can anyone remember any memorable lines he quoted in it? No, and yet I bet you can quote at least one from any of his other films, eh? Even Red Sonja ('If you yield only to a conquerer, prepare to be conquered...') As for Byrne, one minute he's wearing a cool smart suit and being suave and sophisticated, next minute he's trying to get laid not only in front of about 500 followers, but in a long black DRESS?!! However, back to T3/4. Thay would probably suck, let's be honest here, but in a twisted self-defeating way I would like to see them, just to see how far you can go towards screwing up two perfectly good films.

    Bester and other SF adaptations

    by mark zip

Stephen Dedalus is absolutely right, we really need to see an intelligent big budget adaptation of Bester's Stars My Destination. There are also dozens of other great totally adaptable science fiction novels just waiting to be filmed - I don't understand how anybody could want to film another Event Horizon, Supernova etc. P.S. Yes, it would also be nice to see LeGuin's Left Hand of Darkness on the screen although it would take a very good director to turn it into a crowdpleaser.

Would be tantamount to burning a hundred million dollars or so. Nobody's going to see some shit-assed spin-off with Vin Deisel. They should put a cap on this notion real, real fast. Does this story need to be a trilogy? A series? No, It does not.

Arnold as Doc is as No-Brainer as you can get. What's critical with any DS movie is the *rest* of the heros. For God's sake, don't butcher the film with a crappy supporting cast! And I'd like to suggest Tom Arnold as Monk and Johnny Depp and Ham...

    by steve_the_hutt

Great idea to make Terminator 3 about John Conner, how they won the war against the machines, how they were able to send the protectors back in time, how they were able to capture and reprogram the T100 ... quite a story there. It would escape the curse of the 3rd sequel, because it wouldn't technically be a sequel (although I have the sick feeling that Hollywood will ignore common sense, stupidly remake T2, and call it a sequel).
