HERCULES ON MOVIES/AIN'T IT COOL EXCLUSIVE!! Bob Orci Names Four Characters Who WON'T Be In The Next STAR TREK!! And Says How Likely It Is 'Star Trek' Will Be In The Title!! Learn What Herc Thinks Of SEEKING A FRIEND FOR THE END!! Listen Via The Archive!!

UPDATE!!
On Saturday night's "Ask Mr. KERN," "Star Trek" writer-producer Roberto Orci named four characters who will NOT appear in the next "Star Trek" movie:
1) Janice Rand
2) Gary Mitchell
3) Charlie X
4) Ruk
He also said we'll see no Borg in that movie.
Orci told us he estimated there was a 75% chance the 2013 movie will contain the words "Star Trek" in its title.
And he confirmed he's had talks with CBS about the possibility of mounting an animated "Star Trek" series.
Missed the show? Head to the archive link (far below). It should be added sometime Sunday.
ORIGINAL POST:
Our special live guest on “Ask Mr. KERN” Saturday night is screenwriter/producer Roberto Orci, whose big-screen dramedy “People Like Us” opens next Friday. With “People Like Us” director Alex Kurtsman, Orci wrote some of the best episodes of “Alias” and created “Fringe” alongside “Alias” creator J.J. Abrams. Moviewise, Orci and Kurtzman went on to script “The Legend of Zorro,” “The Island,” “Mission: Impossible III,” the first two “Transformers” movies, “Cowboys & Aliens,” the acclaimed 2009 blockbuster “Star Trek” and its 2013 sequel.
I’ll also likely be discussing this week Lorene Scafaria’s “Seeking A Friend At The End Of The World” and Colin Trevorrow’s “Safety Not Guaranteed.”
My colleagues Stefani Dias and Mr. KERN himself may have seen “Seeking” and/or “Brave” and/or “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.”
I’ve also seen the first four episodes of “The Newsroom.” It’s the first HBO series written and produced by Aaron Sorkin (who also created “A Few Good Men,” “The American President,” “Sports Night,” “The West Wing,” “Studio 60,” “Charlie Wilson’s War,” “The Social Network” and “Moneyball”). So that might come up.
The radio show airs Saturday 8:05 p.m. to 10 p.m. Pacific Time.
No matter where you are you can listen to the show LIVE by hitting the “Listen Live” button at kernradio.com.
Best of all, you, constant reader, can join this very nerdy conversation.
The toll-free call-in line is:
1-800-640-5376
Call in drunk, as I always do, but watch your language. This is not a podcast. This monster goes out over the air on all 50,000 watts of Southern California’s KERN-AM.

QUESTION: Did BobOrci's presence in the Talkbacks lead to AsimovLives getting banned?
by Mr. Nice Gaius
Inquiring minds want to know!
-
If that's the case, I'm glad. AsimovLives is a whiny little bitch who can't keep his distaste for all things JJ Abrams to himself. The talkbacks are a much better place without him.
-
It would be a bit ironic if Assy's antics against his arch-nemisis are what lead to his downfall...
-
See you there savages.
-
Indeed it would, and, again, if that was the case, then it's just desserts. I enjoy JJ's films, and I loved what he did with Star Trek (and I've been a Trekkie since 1973). I think a lot of the criticism, nay, the vitriol AsimovLives directed at Abrams was completely out of line and unfounded. For God's sake, JJ is making movies, not causing genocide or preaching hate. The latter, I'm afraid to say, is something that Asi has done on many occasions.
-
The Newsroom is outstanding. Really, really good. I hope a decent number of episodes have been ordered for the first season. These 8 or 10 episode seasons are bugging me.

I wonder where the week went... 'CUZ I'VE BEEN WUUURRKIN' ALL WEEK!!! AND I'M FUCKIN' TIIIIRED!!! So I'm gonna go see some flicks. See y'all tonight.
-
Oh, my "sources" say that it is even better than West Wing and especially better than Studio 60. My "source" has only seen the first episode though, and it is.... amazing. I hear.
-
See you at 8 sharp. This will be fun as always.

Also, Avengers cancellation was most likely completely fabricated.
by gotilk
http://www.comicbookmovie.com/animated_features/news/?a=61993 Read down past the Spiderman stuff. The guy made the whole thing up and there's not even such a thing as a Avengers Assemble series in the works? LOL! If he did pull that off, kudos. They had even the mainstream convinced.
-
Don't ask. Let's just say I had more than a story idea. A friend and I had some real world fun with it, wrote it down and then let it go. Then this movie pops up. We're both a little puzzled because some of it is so specifically like what we did. And yes, our thing pre-dated even the real ad that was placed in papers. Our messages went up in a satellite. Or should have. Long story. Sounds nuts.... IS nuts. But was still a blast.
-
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KEO But as you can see, it has yet to be launched and at this point I'm no longer convinced it ever will. But our messages still should make it if the thing is ever launched and there are still planned meeting places/dates in the near future. You can probably figure out the rest. Once they do launch the thing, proof of our messages will be posted on their website for all to read. At least we have that. So, on a more serious note, do any of you think that in 20 thousand years or so, if we survive, we will have figured out time travel?
-
This place is usually hopping by now. Anyway, it's really nice to finally be able to "use quotation marks" again. Replacing them with *this* was actually accidentally spilling over into my other writing. Horrible habit, that. Anyway.... see you all this evening.

-
Just got in from seeing the vampire movie. After I burn my clothes and gouge my eyes out with a butter knife, I'm going to take a nap then do some prep work for the show. Till tonight...
-
.....yawn
-
Sorry to hear that. It looked like big stupid fun. Not that I was going to spend 11 bucks on it or anything, but I'd heard it was at least a blast to watch. Oh well. See you guys later.
-
And you guys know damned well that several generations now have had a growing cynical streak in them. Sometimes it seems like it's just that their memories are foggy and they don't remember how crap most of the stuff that came out of the 70s and 80s (80s more-so) was. I have seen really , really good stuff torn to shreds here, so I guess I should keep that in mind most of the time. Just the animals doing their territorial growling and pissing. lol Everyone that posts about what they hate here, quick... A list of 20 great things you watched in the last 10 years. GREAT. They exist. Name 'em. If you can't, it's just a personality thing.
-
.. I mean Talkback in general. The whole site. Buckethead's post only reminded me of it. Buckethead has had legitimate gripes. I don't agree with them all, but I won't say they are illegitimate.
-
the "stuff" I have to do these days. And I get SO bored because I don't really get enough time to do anything substantial or creative.... so I get massive boredom. Thanks for these Saturday shows/talkbacks guys. They make my week.
-
looks like boborci will join us at 8:35
-
See you at 8. Really looking forward to putting a voice to boborci. I'm sure it will be a very entertaining interview.
-
New Yorker, NYT, Wash Post, LA Times, etc, all think it's as subtle as a hammer-to-the-head. As soon as I had read that the Daniels character was a "republican," I knew he was one of those "republicans" that only criticize other GOP'ers while agreeing with and championing everything the Democrats do.
-
Too bad they seemed to have a sort of agenda. Far more-so than The Newsroom. Fact is, it's a very well written, perfectly performed show... so far. Dream cast, too. The show even addresses the very criticisms those reviews are lobbing at it. Bottom line.... people are far too quick to apply labels to facts as either liberal or conservative. They don't lean either way. They just are. Like 'em, dislike 'em... hide 'em (often), decide not to report them (HI FOX!!)... whatever. The facts don't have a bias. But the reporters often do, as well as the people who pay them and remind them of such on a regular basis. I think the show is a wonderful fantasy about what it would be like if reporters stopped worrying about their corporate bosses and advertisers and just started doing their jobs again like they used to. But that's GOTTA hurt. Badly. So I "get" the criticisms.
-
Because even NPR has been caught dropping or "re-shaping" stories.
-
You are free to call in anytime. BH50, to be clear... if Adam Sandler came on this show to promote something, I would let him. I would treat him with respect because he is my guest on my show. However, I would be truthful in expressing my disappointment with his film choices. Is that kissing his ass? If that's how you want to look at it, who am I to argue? If that's the way YOU treat people in your everyday life... calling out every mistake or less than perfect piece of work that someone you meet puts out... well, good luck with that. It's not how we do things on my side of town. Again, call the show. I'll be happy to give you, and any other talkbacker, air time as long as you keep it clean. 45 minutes till showtime. Gotta go make sure my lips look pretty for our guest. ***pucker***
-
I hear you about the "nothings good no more" crowd. I have a fair amount of cynicism with me, but I still have moments of wonder and joy in the movies, which is why I still go. Latest example: SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD. I was shocked how much I dug that film. From the previews it looked like something I would have NEVER watched. I got suckered into it and wow. Love it. Movies are a wonderful minefield to get lost in at times. Ya never know when something awful/great will happen.

Buckethead, we love the respectful, well-reasoned posts you provide us with every week. Thank you for being a part of the show. However, in any type of entertainment journalism, one has to realize that everyone and everything has a loyal fan. Just like you love us and our show (and we love you in return), Sandler has a loyal fanbase, same as Orci, same as Star Trek '09, same as Prometheus. Respect for those groups of people instead of alienation is an essential key for peace and harmony. Otherwise, there would be just cynicism and emptiness and hyperbole, stuff that you yourself claim to hate because those traits go against the original Star Trek series that you profess to love and admire.

Abe L. Vampire Fucker: Bat-Shit Crazy Fun! Cheesy, sometimes sleazy, but constantly wacko! I liked it! Brave: Visually, some of Pixar's best work yet. Story-wise, it was different and surprising but not as good as Pixar's best (The Incredibles). Here we go!

Star Trek, Fringe, MI3, Alias. Good stuff. I choose to look for the good in people. We've all done the equivalent of write a TF2 in our lives.
-
I agree, they are SO not the same thing and it frustrates me to explain the joys of blu-ray to people who don't care about image quality. Still, I have it hardwired in my brain to call discs 'DVDs' when in conversation. My bad, and my explanation.
-
That's a given. Booze is just ....included.

Especially for giving us Fringe. Fringe is a beautiful thing. I hope they continue to tell Fringe stories at least in comics or books.

I became THAT GUY for a second.
-
... laugh myself into a heart attack!!! LOL
-
I'll see it just for her. But it still looks like more than just your standard "chick flick".
-
Back when they announced The Peacekeeper Wars, "milla" said something like "I never used my fame to get roles, but I always wanted to do Farscape." And there's been other stuff over the years that leads me to believe it's either her, or someone posing as her, not just regular poster with the name. She seems like the type of chick that would partake in a geek haven like AICN.

Hellraiser at Hogwart's. Yep.... Those magical kiddies have to face their hidden desires for pain as pleasure. Okay, that even makes me feel a little sick. Song of Ice and Firestarter. The worlds of King and Martin collide as the monsters , villains, heroes and aliens from the King universe invade Martin's world on both sides of the wall. I Dream of Chucky. A young astronaut rubs a lamp and unleashes a demonically possessed doll that wants to grant all his wishes... as long as they're MURDER!! I have more...

Because 1) that crew needs more women in prominent roles, and 2) I'd love to see Mary Lynn Rajskub take the role.

Mary Lynn Rajskub as Rand is genius.

Oh crap! Perfect casting idea.

For a perfect show (that needs a THIRD HOUR DAMMITT!) and a great guest. That was a huge amount of fun. I missed the last 15 minutes. (got a phone call) When does the archived episode go up these days? A day later? Hope so. I really want to hear it.

I fucking hate action cartoons. They're all crap. The acting is always stiff. I just can't connect to animated characters. At least, not the kind that TV budgets create. I usually defend Orci, but I say live-action Trek on TV or nothing. I don't want some fucking cartoons. And no, I don't think it's better than nothing. I don't compromise. I want living, breathing, human beings. Christ, I suppose some of you actually liked those tepid, horrible, Filmation Star Trek cartoons. If that's the case, well, I'm sorry to tell you the truth, but you're really stupid. LOOK HERE, ORCI, don't force me to take drastic measures here. If I have to stay away from the theater and give the next Star Trek movie the cold shoulder, I will. And I am the zeitgeist for movie popularity. If I don't go to it, it won't be a success. It's a weird thing I've noticed. You've been warned.

by AsimovLives
No idea if it's because of Bob Orci that AICN decided to ban me. But if that was true, if this big shot Holywood man would cause such an insignificant nobody like me to be banned from AICN, then he must be the person with the most fragille personality in the whole western hemisphere.

As for PROMETHEUS, i was quite disapointed. Very disapointed.
by AsimovLives
Visually, it's brillant. The script, however, is stupid beyond belief. Unbelievable characters who act like they are dumb teens, with the exception of David and Vickers. Scientists who act like no scientist ever. Pedant pseudo-philosophical nonsense served with dialogues filled with platitudes. It's a nonsensical mess. Ridlwy Scott still got the touch to make beautiful looking movie,s but please, no more partnership with untalented idiotic screenwriters who think themselves more clever then they are like Damon Lindelof. PROMETHEUS: Beautiful but stupid.
-
Hope everything has been okay.
-
Thanks pal. Well, not everything is OK, thanks to the vississitude of life, but it's good enough. It is a bummer that i'm banned, it did make me kinda sad. I don't think i'll be allowed to post in here for much longer. Soon enough i'll re-banned again, i believe. Oh well. Have fun and see ya later, don't know when, don't know where, as the song says.
-
An Alex Jones kook. It's hard to give him too much credit when his head is mired in conspiracy.
-
I read Orci's coments and questions in the Copernicus' talkback called The Science Of The Avengers, and they came across as quite strange and mired in ignorance about the most basic concepts of astronomy. He wanted Copernicus, who is a real astronomer and astrophysic, to admit that there was a center in the Universe, and lo and behold, we were living right in it. So strange and absurd. The first thing we learn about the universe is that it doesn't have any center. It's basic knowledge. And even if for the sake of argument it was so, how could it be a center when the solar system itself orbits around the center of the Milky May. And the Milky Way itself wanders about, it's not stoped at a point in space. Strange, just strange. I also read about his conspicary theories stuff, and it seems that he took so long writing for FRINGE he now believes the fictional stuff he created for his own show. Weird.
-
asi, good to see you back hombre. You were banned? How come you logged back in to post just now? A beautiful mess is a nice way to describe PROMETHEUS... I really enjoyed it despite the *issues* and appreciated its uniqueness - when its good its really really good. For better or worse theres no other movie quite like it!
-
I end up not enjoying PROMETHEUS for the same reasons. Beautiful imagery and good actors alone do not a good movie make. I'm just very glad that AICN is allowing me to return, so i'll not futher the issue. I don't think that PROMETHEUS is that unique. The ancient astronauts angle has been done almost to dath, and much better. The characters in the movie are stock cliches. So, no, there is no uniqueness for me in regard to PROMETHEUS. But that wouldn't had been much of an issue for me is the story wasn't so dumb and that characters so frustratingly idiotic. I'm sorry for venting my thoughs on PROMETHEUS, when it's obvious that AICN and you guys have already moved on. I missed out all that fun when the movie was released and you guys were posting your thoughs and opinions and had a ball with it. Ironically, i saw the movie before you americans had, the day before, which was the release day in here. Oh well.
-
June 24, 2012, 12:53 p.m. CST
i know i'm going the jumble the grammar, but i have to coment on this: what Orci didn't say there wasn't
by AsimovLives
Above Orci said what wasn't in the new Team Abrams Trek. But he didn't said, or shall i say, he didn't denied that the following are not in the movie: Klingons, Khan, Mudd, Dr Marcus, romulans. Interesting, isn't it? Also, Abrams promised that there would be an atempt to bring in a theme or themes to the new movie, something even he admited lacked in the first. And lo and behold, this time Damon Lindelof is not only producer but also co-writer. And i think we all by now must be to aware of what themes Lindelof always brings with him whenever he writes a script: science vs faith, the power of faith, senseless mysteries and unaswered questions to be given later in the sequel. So, yeah, more PROMETHEUS-like stuff for Abrams Trek 2. That would be my guess.

asimovlives - We seem to have had simular reactions to Prometheus.
by L.H.Puttgrass
Here's what I posted in Herc's HERCULES ON MOVIES! Prometheus talkback: People have been waiting for this a long time. I've known for years about Scott saying that all the sequels are missing the most interesting part of his first movie. He had said in interviews that they keep making the sequels about the xenomorph but never explore the origins of the derelict ship and it's pilot. So I wasn't expecting an "Alien" movie. All the promotional stuff was pointing to a Hard SF movie. And it did seem like one. Until... My problems with the flick start with the script and the editing. Things happen in this script that just take me out of the movie. This crew is the best that money can buy? They do things that scientists on an important and dangerous expedition would never do. "We just landed on a strange new world, everybody out! Jump in the big scary all-terrain bus and assorted ATVs and floor it straight at the Engineer's temples." 'Cuz nothing says, "We come in peace." like a spaceship landing in your front yard, dropping down a ramp and launching some ATVs at high speed straight at you like they're the space-police or something! "Yo, Dudes! We're from Earth! Howdy! Watch me cut some doughnuts in your yard! WOO! HOO!!" And then the science guy pops his helmet at the drop of a hat. (Is that a pun?) The 2 other "specialists" get lost, even though the captain has them on the fancy 3D hologram map, and decide to make camp in the room with the creepy as fuck oozing containers, even though they got lost in the first place because they were scared of the place and wanted to go back to the ship! Then these 2 scaredy-cats decide to play snuggle bunnies with the Fucking Spacecobra from Hell! It doesn't go well. This kind of logic happens over and over in the movie. Usually, this kind of behavior is seen in slasher flicks as teenagers do stupid things that get them killed at Camp Crystal Lake. Every time it pulled me out of the movie. And I kept wondering why this was left in the script and who put it in there in the first place. The old guy popping up and no reaction from whats left of the crew. Shaw escaping from them, having the robo-abortion, and then showing back up half-naked and bloody and they act like, "Oh, look. It's Shaw. Have you met the old dude?" "Ah, hi Mr. Weyland. Nobody ask me why I'm all bloody or if there's a squid-thing growing in the other room. I'm not telling." I did laugh when Vickers buys it. It was like a Homer Simpson Doughnut Nightmare! "AHHH! Stop chasing me! Stop!! No! No!! NOOO!!!!" *CRUNCH!* "DOH!" Don't get me started about the last 5 minutes. I just hope she brought something for lunch with her. Engineers eat crap. And the last scene. Whatever. The editing of the movie felt like it was rushed. Like they were trying to get all this stuff in and had to get it in 2 hours. It feels like there's a longer version of this movie somewhere. Reminds me of Kingdom of Heaven and the Director's Cut that came later. I think the Director's Cut was 30-45 minutes longer. I wanted to like this. I drove almost 50 miles one way Thursday night to get to the AMC Palace 20 in New Orleans to see this in Imax 3D for the 12:01 show. I got there early and had a good seat. Sat there over an hour waiting. It was a long ride back home. Well, let's hope there's a Director's Cut or something. I think I heard that this is the Director's Cut. Some interview somewhere. Oh, well...
-
You raised a very good point about the unbelievability of the actions of tha characters as if they are some teens froma slasher. That's exactly what happens in the movie. This scientists act like teens in slasher. But already in those slashers we think those dumb teens are acting stupidly. how much worst is to see scientists, which are supposed to be very smart people, act so thoughfuless? As you said, it makes no sense! Yeah, the way the humans arrive at the space jockey planet sure doesn't read like the actions of somebody who comes in peace. imagine you being the other fellas seeing that. You would either run or arm yourself and prepare for the worst. One thing made me laugh like hell: the Pseudo-Tom Hardy gets depressed and turns to drink because he couldn't chat with the "engineers" right the first day he arrives. How does that make any sense? What kind of scientist is that fool? It's already a huge step for mankind that tjhey didn't found a desert palent but one with structures. Even if the aliens would be dead, there would be material for studying for decades to come. Today we reconstruct the past through archeology with much less. "I drove almost 50 miles one way Thursday night to get to the AMC Palace 20 in New Orleans" OUCH!!!! It remeinds me when i saw HIGHLANDER 2, i also had to do quite a bit of milage to go to the theater and back, and ON FOOT, and for that movie! I feel your frustration and pain, brother! I don't think a director's cut can salvage PROMETHEUS. The problem is not what they didn't put in the movie, the problem is what already is in it. They would need to make a whole new movie to correct it. Keep the visuals, hire a new screenwriter who knows what the hell he's doing.
-
There is an extended cut coming to blu-ray/dvd. I think it was 20 min longer? Am I right, guys? Anyway... the hope is that the longer cut makes some things a little clearer.
-
I think there is about 20 minutes of added footage. I would hope it explains some of their actions a little better. Okay, a lot better.

Well, where i live, many think that we are already 100 years overdue a massive earthquake, because the periodicity is about 250 years, and the last happened in 1755. You guys ever heard of the Lisbon Earthquake of 1755? Here's a link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lisbon_earthquake Right now, it's heat. It's predicted that this week there will be temperatures of 40 to 42 degrees celcius. This means, as usual every summer in my country, lots of forest fires, a real plague. And very sunburned english, swedes and germans, but that's played for laughs.
-
From what I've read in the talkbacks, I think he lives somewhere in the area around Los Angeles or Bakersfield, California. He had said something in the talkbacks about the habits of traffic cops in that area. Sounded like it was from personal experience. As for me, I live near New Orleans. I have a new roof on my house thanks to Hurricane Gustav back in 2008. I like my new roof. I'd like it to stay where it is. All those fair-skinned people come to Lisbon for vacation? With no sunblock? They get a lot of tourists in New Orleans. I hope they got their sunblock on.
-
it's a matter of fact that all the northern europeans always understimate how strong the sun in Portugal is. They think that strong sunlight is only in Africa, that here it's milder. Not so. The whole peninsula iberica is very sunny, even in winter. In summertime, it's like Sahara but without the desert. It's very hot. My own country has the records of sunshine intensity and year around sun light in the whole of Europe. And since 20 years ago we do seem to have a periodic draught happening. 10 years ago was so bad, we even had a draught IN WINTERTIME! Can you believe it? The upside of this is that it's perfect clima for great wines. The french have the fame, but our wines are second to none.

The chance of "Star Trek" appearing in the title of the next Star Trek movie should be 100%. Don't mess with that.

hate to say it guys, but he comes off as a really nice guy, not the d-bag i was picturing in my mind (maybe it's the other guy.) also i was able to listen to all the segments without my crappy compaq cutting out on me, praise jebus!! (maybe i was spared because it's audio and not video which appears to sometimes die on me.) which is fine cause i prefer to watch video on the telly anyway. i'm about to listen to the five bazillion archived kern shows in the days ahead. does any one know whether the ep that Lindalof speaks has him heading for the hills regarding Prometheus. although i'm thinking it was probably done before the movie came out. asimovlives - Oddly enough we have droughts here sometimes.
by L.H.Puttgrass
In the "swamp lands" of southern Louisiana, there have been times when the rainfall has just dropped off to nothing. There have been several times over the last twenty years or so when the bayou that runs through my front yard has dried up completely, allowing various small animals to walk across it. Not now though. I have to cut my lawn every weekend or else it will be very thick and tall the next weekend. I have a John Deere 42" cut lawn tractor and it takes about 1 1/2 to 2 hours to cut it all. Fun.

The more I think about it, the less I like the idea of an animated Trek.
by gotilk
Why? Well, after some deep thought, I think the main reason I hate the idea is that I know it will fail and be canceled. And that could ruin the possibility of a new, smart, fresh live action Trek with new characters and writers. They can point to another failure and say "see? Trek is a money pit!". Bullcrap. It's a moneymaker, but it just has to be really GOOD. And.... not animated. I'm still obsessed with the idea of a new Star Trek series NOT focused on a Federation ship. But that will probably never happen. Oh and I live in the Sacramento area. Our big worry is Katrina-sized (actually bigger) flooding. In the 90s we were declared a disaster area and Clinton even visited. The guy who used to do my sister's taxes made a big mistake and joked that if he knew Clinton was going to be in town, we would have brought his gun. A secret service agent heard it! Oops. They took him away for a while. Idiot. But yeah, our biggest concern is flooding, but I have felt a couple of earthquakes in my years here, and when the fires get bad in the foothills (I lived there for a while too) they get really bad. It's not a bad place to live though. It's a big town without that big town coldness. You can still use a bathroom pretty much anywhere without people worried that you're using it to shoot up or turn tricks. If you break down, people will stop to help. Housing is still way over the top expensive in most places. But it's nice here.

I used to drive to LA about 1 or 2 times a year.

asimovlives - I liked it. I thought it was "Classic Bat-shit Crazy Nick Cage".
by L.H.Puttgrass
There are a lot of movies being made here these days. The movie companies are getting various tax incentives to be here. So it's good for them and it's good for us. As far as how accurate it was... It was probably as accurate as all the other bat-shit crazy films that he has done. Ghost Rider Bangkok Dangerous Kick-Ass Drive Angry Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance In other words, not that accurate. I'm sure that every large city has some corrupt policemen with drug habits. But I'm also sure that if you were that wired up on that many drugs for that long, you would either get caught or die of a heart attack within a month or so. See you later.
-
Definitely bat-shit crazy Nick. I've always wondered how accurate Treme is. I mean, it doesn't focus on the city as much as the individual characters. What's been your impression?
-
Well, sort of. I had a dream that I built a man-cave in the back yard, soundproofed and all. And it had a "carpet cave" in it lined with carpet, even on the ceiling. It was a room of pillows, giant ones. So there ya go. The show is even invading my dreams now.

gotilk - I knew you were in California. I just wasn't sure where.
by L.H.Puttgrass
Asi asked about the fault line and I remembered something about speed traps near that area from the TBs. I used to live in Alameda and Vallejo. My dad was in the Navy and then I was. 69-72, 74-79, when my dad was in. 88-90 when I was in. I've seen my share of the mudslides, flooding, wildfires and earthquakes. Mostly on the local news there, except for the quakes. My ship was near Korea when they had that big quake during the World Series. That was October 89. Some of the men on board lost their wives and/or family when that elevated highway collapsed in Oakland. They were flown back home. I don't know how many times I went over that thing when I was a kid.
-
said, can we all agree that Prometheus was a prequel to Alien ? Yes. Ridley you fool no one!
-
I don't know if it's still on but I know when I first heard of it I didn't have HBO. I do have it now. I haven't seen it listed on the cable box's channel schedule. After hearing about Game of Thrones on the talkbacks, I bought the season 1 Blu-Ray. Watched 2 EPs so far. It lives up to the praise.
-
Hah, liked your post about Prometheus better than the movie itself!!!

I liked getting that off my chest. I still can't believe that Ridley read that script and green lit it.

buckethead50 - Down here in New Orleans they have a minor league team called the Zephyrs.
by L.H.Puttgrass
I've seen them play at Zephyr Field. And you're right. There's a great time to be had at a minor league ball game.
-
Yeah!! Go River Cats. I never have time to head to Stockton anymore, so no never seen any of their games. I remember driving the frontage road next to the delta during a minor flood a few years back. It was right to the top. I remember thinking... hmm.. this is a small flood. If we get a big, 100 year flood, we're fucked. And we are. I think Wired magazine named us the most likely to have a huge natural disaster.
-
I've seen what happens when you depend on an inadequate levy system. It's not pretty.
-
they'll probably just swim to the bay area. And when FEMA drags their heels, everyone will be saying "Obama hates trailer trash!". I kid, I kid. But yeah, it's not pretty. I live up high, sort of on a hill but it's not easily realized when you're here. The last huge flood made us an island, so we couldn't go anywhere for a few days but that's as bad as it got. Down the road from us though they built an entire community... SINCE that last huge flood. Even built a new stadium in the same area, surrounded it with a new community, new state of the art schools, shopping centers, a giant health club, as well as hundreds of new housing tracts and complexes. On a flood plain. not tooo.... sharp. But they did it anyway, saying there was no longer any threat, and they spent millions on flood protection. But I'll tell you what.... water knows where it wants to go, and no matter what you do a flood plain is a flood plain. All it takes is one mistake and they're under water. Period. Every time I drive by those housing tracts, I feel bad for the people there. They all have mandatory flood insurance I'm sure... but...we all know how that turns out in a real crisis.
-

That there are cartoons here and you don't like them? If so, I think you're in the wrong talkback. Or... That there aren't any cartoons here and you maybe would like some? If so, the closest examples of the cartoonist arts that you will find here are: Herc's avatar at the bottom of the article, Harry's always present gif at the top of the page, and possibly, the embedded trailer for Brave. But there ain't any Peanuts, Family Circus, Scooby Doo, Smurfs, Batman, Spiderman, or Popeye here. At least, not this week. Sorry.
-
He means no FUCKING cartoons. As in, he would be really offended if cartoons started to fuck each other here. I'd find it highly entertaining personally, but to each his own.
-
Now that sounds like a fun road trip.

It's been a blast!!

I don't want a Trek cartoon either. I'd hate it because that would mean it would inevitably fail and possibly destroy any chances of a great , new live action Star Trek series.

There's no pro team. We have LSU and The Zephyrs. I guess LSU has the edge on popularity because they are more of a state wide organization. The Zephyrs are more of a New Orleans / Southeastern Louisiana kind of thing. And we also have the Hornets which are getting more popular every year. But when you're talking about sports around here there really is only one game. It's called Football. Saints. LSU Tigers. High School. And not necessarily in that order. Football is big here. BIG.

by Stalkeye
All kidding aside, That's unfortunate that you were picked to get the Banhammer when there were/are various trolls, creeps and the like that have posted hateful and tasteless comments on the TBs. I may not agree with some of your sentiments, but I respect you having the courage of conviction as opposed to being some Starfucker. Your deride of Abrams,Orci,Bay,etc obviously stems from your passion for Cinema & various Fan fiction most notably, Star Trek. And being that you are a huge fan, it makes sense to express your contempt although to many, it comes off like some Schtick or running gag. However, I see some of the Tbers lash at others like lunatics because they didn't approve of their "sacred' films, comics, etc. (Don't even want to get started on that topic. that being said, everyone is entitled to their opinion yanno.) Best to my knowledge, you never went there. The Ban was uncalled for but what can ya do? Anyway, Welcome back and give em hell! well, a more Civil discussion anyways.

we just don't miss them. I still have NO clue who I pissed off and why. I think something I wrote was mis-read/misunderstood. I had just got through writing this huge post defending something Harry had written, and just generally. So my banning felt BIZARRE. Maybe they read it with sarcasm? In any case, I was being genuine. But I got banned anyway. It could have been a mis-click as well. Hard to tell, and I'll probably never find out. There are also people here who get away with murder and never get banned. Long time talkbackers, etc. I always figured I was one of them since I'd had an account back before the AOTC days. It's all about perception. And people's moods I guess. It can be difficult to get through to an actual person here at times, but I got lucky and got un-banned. I'd hate to lose people like Asi and Choppah and so many of the old regulars. Even if I disagree with them here and there, or they piss me off. Doesn't mean I don't like 'em. Ya know?

There are rumors afoot that the 2013 movie might not use "Star Trek" in its title -- just as "The Dark Knight" did not use "Batman" in its title. (Note that Bob did not say 90% or 99% or 100%.) I live near a lot of plants so that oxygen was replenished pretty quickly. I was excited to waste it.

So what would they call it? Something like "Live Long and Prosper?"
by Triple_J_72
-
"Starfleet," "Federation," "Frontier," "Enterprise," "The Klingon," "Botany Bay" ... "Live Long and Prosper" strikes me as a little soft, but still better than "Batman Forever."
-
Go the serial route.
-
Am I getting warm? You out there Orci?
-
Okay... maybe not.
-
Too harsh sounding, but I kind of like it.
-
Or the Begennening.

Doctor McCoy (or, How I learned to stop worrying and love the Vulcan)
by gotilk
Kubrick inspired.
-
Trek from a new angle, as a romantic action comedy featuring Doctor McCoy and Angelina Jolie on a rollicking, romantic space adventure as Angelina protects the good country doctor from a Klingon assassin who blames him for his honor being something something so and so.
-
Spock tries to save the Vulcan race by chemically inducing Pon Farr in as many surviving Vulcans as he can find. This will be the first "R" rated Star Trek movie after it is edited down from an NC-17. And that's a shame because NC-17 is so close to NCC-1701. Imagine the promotional possibilities...
-
LOL! As long as they don't cast Jamie Farr. How about "A Bridge too Pon Farr"?
-
I have freaking clue how they'd write him into a Star Trek movie but as we've seen with Lost and Fringe, alternate universes and dopplegangers are well used.
-
Just let the Kirk-Spock slash fiction writers have at it. Kirk and Spock:Pon Farr gone Too Farr
-
Gay porn title.
-
Anime.
-
Well, they DID investigate a LOT of those in all the series. So why not name a movie after one?
-
Hahah! That one killed me.
-
So that title is probably erroneous.
-
Three Starfleet Officers And a Baby. lol
-
Star Trek babies that talk.
-
Yeah, sometimes I forget which team he's pitching (or catching) for.

I think the carpet cave has warped your brains. See you Saturday.

Me not know what happen. Me wrong.
-
Yep, still around. Well, in a way. Hey, how are the ratings? Improved? Good? Looking up? I know you can't go into specifics, but can you give us an idea about which direction it's going? Looking up? Getting that THIRD HOUR maybe?
-
Kirk and Spock go back in time to save an infested Hubble telescope and have to deal with an alien threat aboard the International Space Station. The film's budget puts more money into the space program the the NASA budget has in 10 years. The US is embarrassed. (so, in other words, a fantasy)
-
Sorry man, I got you mixed up.

"I'm gonna sing-a about the Khan-a and the Noonien-a Singh-a!" "I'm gonna sing-a about the BOOM-BOOM-BOOM and the Katra for you!" "Oh! Noooo!"

Now that would be funny. Like those old variety shows. Sort of what Donnie and Marie was like, or The Brady Kids.
-
Lt Barclay gets ultimate power again and tried to take over the federation. Directed by P.T. Anderson.
-
I must be getting dru..... I mean tired.
-
I always loved those STTNG episodes that focused on him, whether it was him gaining some ultimate power over people or a story about his chronic holodeck masturbation problem. That stuff writes itself.
-
I think my title well may be drying a bit.
-
Vulcans Say The Darndest Things.

Short skirts, baby.

You know you're a Borg when....
-
The Romulans construct a very large slingshot. And they use it to fling their ships at... Well, you know.

Heh. Kind of a mashup

Get this timeline's version Tom Hardy's character from Nemesis. Have him and Kirk fight over a green Orion slave girl. Put Reese Witherspoon in the green Orion slave girl makeup and outfit. There's your movie.

Alien vs Predator? Prometheus vs Star Trek!! There. That's better.

Yeah, I know. That's just mean.
-
Yeah you went dark,man. LOL
-
I will NOT eat a bug, a hat or anything that is not a food product. Normally. But I'll be surprised.
-
Reminds me of little kids telling jokes. So cute. "and and so the prostitute says to the donkey..." wow.... talk about a dark place.
-
Because it is Star Trek 12. Spock tries to avert a disaster and fails. He goes thru a blackhole to an alternate timeline/universe in the past. Spock is now, for the time being, trapped here as the crew of the alternate timeline Enterprise fights and destroys the Romulan ship responsible. Star Trek 11. We have another adventure with the alternate timeline/universe Enterprise crew. Spock is still stuck there. Star Trek 12. Meanwhile, in the original timeline/universe, mail and newspapers are forming a large pile on Spock's front doorstep. Soon, a missing person report will be filed. Star Trek 13: The Search for Spock... again?
-
Seems to be just the two of us at this point, but yes. Must be a record.
-
My mind has been drained of possible Star Trek titles I'm afraid. But I'm still fearful of this idea of another animated Trek. Scary. Because you know it wouldn't last... and ruin the possibility of a new, updated (again) Trek universe live action series. Trek as you've never seen it before... Keep the old values of friendship, an optimistic view of the future, forehead ridges, etc. But bring some of the adult drama, great characters and sci-fi commentary on current events (well I guess that was an original series thing, really). Not LIKE BSG... but an update in the way that series elevated the universe and the stories. They dropped the hokey and made it look amazing as well. There's not as MUCH hokiness in Trek, but it exists. Mostly in the look, and the costumes. NG was the worst when it came to costumes, in MY opinion. It reflected a lot of the styles of the time period in which it was made. anyway....
-
I especially like the part where Pavel Chekov fantasizes about Uhura climbing out of the holodeck pool and dropping her top, while he's popping his cork, if you know what I mean. Then she walks in on him in mid pop! Aww, man. That's funny. It just never gets old.
-
Not even trolls calling everything we talked about stupid, and describing us as drooling manchildren?

gotilk - I may also be running out of ideas. And yet I won't stop.
by L.H.Puttgrass
I even went on about how think this new movie is really just Star Trek 12. Not really a reboot. They just followed Spock to an alternate reality and kept the cameras rolling.

How Green is Her Belly: An Ode To Orion Slave Girls by James T. Kirk

Oh, how I love her warm, green belly. That muscular belly that helps the thrusts that help me bust a nut to her supreme love making.

My fondest memory of going to the cinema was to see Star Trek IV with my dad at Howard movie theater in Panama. I remember the line to the theater spanned across the parking lot for opening night. This movie theater was a converted opera house with a second story balcony tier and it was a screen as large as the largest Imax to me when I was a kid of 7 years old. The movie was magical being a Star Trek fan and watching all the old reruns and first two movies religiously on TV and Betamax. I'll never forget that night. It'll be interesting to see what they can do with a Star Trek cartoon. Now you are wondering why I posted this talkback message about Star Trek. I am so happy, I just won tickets to see a screening of the new Spiderman here in South Florida and I'm going to invite my dad. It will be his first 3d movie experience and I know this will be amazing for him. Hopefully he can make it after work. It will be the first movie we see just the two of us in a long time. I can't wait until July 2nd.
-
That's not me announcing more Star Trek titles without 'Star Trek' in them. That's a title.
-
The true story of how the Klingons lost their bumpy skulls and got them back again.
-
The plot revolves around the coronation of the new Queen of Cardassia, called The Kim. After the ceremony, The Kim decides that Cardassia doesn't have enough "Bling". She sends the fleet out to neighboring worlds to collect "Bling" as tribute. Those who do not supply the needed "Bling" will be... disciplined. War breaks out and the Enterprise crew must deal with the Cardassians. The Kim will be played by Paris Hilton. Which for some reason pisses off everyone.
-
The good doctor gets cranky all across the galaxy.
-
The Enterprise runs afoul of aliens and stuff happens.
-
In Safety Not Guaranteed, Scotty find out the hard way that he has become wildly allergic to crustaceans. Namely, his crabby, little, alien buddy...
-
Jay Leno stars as a "Q" who comes aboard causing havoc by turning everything he touches into gold! The crew later realize that the cause of all this strange behavior is an odd orange powder covering Q's fingers...
-
I have no idea. The script seems to be a complete mess about murderous apes and possessed people set to Sonny & Cher songs! If it's in 3D, it'll probably beat Avatar at the box office.
-
The Enterprise (Pine, Quinto) gets trapped by an anomaly. They end up in an alternate universe where they run into... The Enterprise (Belushi, Aykroyd)! Hilarity ensues until.. In a flash of SFX, The Enterprise (Shatner, Nimoy) appears! After 10 minutes of "Who are you!"s, Phasers and photon torpedoes are traded! After two hours of fighting and many versions of the Enterprise later, the Enterprise (Stewart, Frakes) finally gets everyone's attention and gets them to cease fire. And just as they're all starting laugh at themselves... A sudden flash of SFX, it's the Enterprise (Hoek, Cat)!!! At the sight of all the ships on his viewscreen, Captain Ren Hoek screams, "Oh, GOD DAMMIT! NOT AGAAAIN!!!" First Officer Stimpy quickly leaps across the bridge and slams his ass into the shiny, jolly, candy-like History Eraser Button! And then suddenly... *ZZZZZzzzzzzZZZZZZT! POOF!*
-
to Please place it between "starting" and "laugh". Thank you.
-
This one is rumored to be directed by Tom Six. It apparently has something to do with tribbles, string, KY jelly, and oddly enough, some kind of perverse activity.
-
Capt. Kirk (Pine) and the Enterprise crew try to figure out why all the aliens they meet seem to always look like humans with different kinds of bumps and shapes on their heads. Somebody asks about Spock's ears and a fight breaks out on the bridge. At no point in the movie is Facebook mentioned. And I think that's for the best.

"You're old and fat now and the New Herc On Movies is so young and slender." "It's shameful, I know. I'm so sorry. I'm just a sucker for a pair of perky tits."
