AICwHK talks ABRAHAM LINCOLN VAMPIRE HUNTER, unveils the latest on PRIDE, PREJUDICE & ZOMBIES & double dogs Colbert to cover this one great threat to life here in America - coming to BluRay soon!

Hey folks, Harry here...  After I get back from Rehab today I'm going to finally relax and write my reviews for BRAVE & ABRAHAM LINCOLN VAMPIRE HUNTER.   I'm quite a bit smitten with both films, but ABRAHAM LINCOLN VAMPIRE HUNTER...  it's just fucking magnificently fun.   There's a sillyness to the concept, but the film is actually played straight and for keeps.   Benjamin Walker aka Young Liam Neeson aka Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter...  that guy is pretty awesome.  There's points in the film where Abe really makes you care, when you're just in awe of him and others where you'll just love him.   His Mary Todd is played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead and she's just wonderful.  The period is just magical for her.   The hair, make up and costumes, they're the exterior...  but she feels a bit like Mary Steenburgen in TIME AFTER TIME, but as Mary Todd's life is a greater story.  The cinema on display?  Has as much to do with Eisenstein as History.  You're going to see some shit up on this screen that feels like stunning murals come to life.   Just beautiful work.   Really just stunning cinematography from Caleb Deschanel!  Audouy's Production Design on this film is just breathtaking.   Timur Bekmambetov has been roaring at our cinemas for a while, I love his NIGHT WATCH and DAY WATCH but there's something so appropriate about a Russian doing this version of Lincoln's life.  It is epic, badass, romantic and sad.   And I didn't really know any of that when I sat down and talked about ABRAHAM LINCOLN VAMPIRE HUNTER...  but frankly I'm glad, as a result I learned more about PRIDE, PREJUDICE & ZOMBIES, along with some other.. fun bits!  Also, discover what film would paralyze the bravest man to ever live, that mammoth man without color.   Stephen Colbert.  This is a film that America must see, to alert them of the greatest threat to this country.   And it's all in this episode of AIN'T IT COOL with me.  If you're digging the show, be sure to share and forward it to your friends and to people you might think will enjoy it.   It'd be greatly appreciated.

Also, fear not, no spoilers in this episode!   Watch fearlessly!

Only a Republican would be bad ass enough to take on vampires

    by Patrick

Think about it: U.S. Grant, Teddy Roosevelt, Eisenhower, Reagan, George W. Bush? I could see all of them being vampire-killing mofos! Who do the dems have? Could you really see Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, or Barack Obama doing anything but running in the other direction? You pretty much have to go all the way back to Andrew Jackson to find a democrat with the cojones for this kind of badassery!

  • June 21, 2012, 11:51 a.m. CST

Completely forgot Caleb Deschanel was lensing this. Now its a BluRay must own.

And as much as I couldn't sit through Night or Day Watch, I found Wanted to be very entertaining (favorite bit, the keyboard keys and broken teeth spelling "fuck you" in mid air).

    Republicans taking on vampires?

    by HighPointBleed

Vampires are notoriously wealthy... That means Republicans would be too busy kissing their asses to be kicking them...

    Politics...of course...but still...

    by Darth Macchio

You know JFK would have kicked some vampire ass. Truth be told tho - if they did exist, they'd have their hands up the puppeted ass of every political party on the planet...either that or they just wouldn't be a international threat. Also...just a question...wouldn't this film be considered "exploitation"? Abe Lincoln vampire-hunter as a super-hero origin story? At the risk of sounding like a pretentious douche, it just seems too ridiculous to put onto such a specific American historical figure. If production felt the same, it'd be a little easier to accept...but I saw the 1st look on HBO and no matter what anybody says on AICN or to AICN reporters, they most assuredly are taking this seriously and not as absurdist fantasy. More than one actor said "I've always felt Abe to be a badass". Really? One of the greatest statesmen in American History is a asskicking badass? What's next? Ninja warrior Ghandi? Action-adventurer Confucius? I hear they're making Isaac Newton into an action hero next. You know, originality may be a nearly extinct thing but these people aren't even trying. Just pick one thing and an equivalent opposite and ignore the absurdity and just go with it. As always - hope I'm wrong but even on a conceptual level, I can't help but find it ridiculous. Almost insulting...almost. And yes, I realize that kinda makes me the douche in need of defending my view...but there it is, anyway.

  • but not Reagan or Dubya. That's just dumb to say that they would.

  • Ah, but who are the **true** bloodsuckers in this scenario? Hmmmmmmmmm?

  • June 21, 2012, 1:29 p.m. CST

    LOL

    by WilliamZabkaRox

Did someone just seriously say George W Bush could kick a vampires ass? My Pet Goat George W Bush? Ignoring terrorist warning Gerorge W Bush? Bin Laden is not a concern Geeorge W Bush? Obama on the other hand has taken down more top terrorists in his 4 years than Bush did in 8. He could pull off being Blade for a day! And remember...the Republican party of Abe is nothing like today's Republican party. Abe ended slavery, many of today's Republicans would gladly go back to that era. You have the KKK, Tea Party etc. Abe would be ashamed of his party today and would be a Democrat.

    I don't get why Colbert

    by MaxHeadroom

I don't get why Colbert still has a show. He's a one-trick pony. He does one thing and that is it. How it it continually "funny"? And even at that it AIN'T funny!

    Rebuttals

    by Patrick

Darth Macchio: JFK doesn't strike me as much of a physical fighter, but maybe. folio170133: Reagan was a cowboy in his younger days, even if it was in the movies. Alright, maybe not W. Although, if he had enough blow in him first....? Scratch Monkey: Touche' LOL: Obama hasn't taken out any terrorists. He only signed the orders to. This is referring to presidents who could physically do it themselves. ***Although when you think about it, taking out vampires with drones sounds kinda cool. Psst! Harry! Get back to me! I've got an idea for a movie I want to share with you!!!

Do you remember that famous shot of Obama and his people sitting around watching/waiting for news about the killing of Osama? Yeah, there's a reason why all of the screens are faced away from the camera. He didn't just *sign* away Bin Laden's life. There's a little more to it than that. I mean, he didn't have a joystick or anything, but that closer to the truth than a fanciful fabrication. I love how people do their best to minimize that whole thing. Whatever. That's the politics of now, isn't it? He could have dragged Osama out to the White House garden on a rope behind him, by the neck, and someone would have called it offensive and demanded he step down. It isn't that there's no winning with these people, it's that so many play along when it's retarded and against their best interests to do so. Oh and Stalin and Pol Pot ... liberals? So, didn't make it past your sophomore year, huh? I've seen a LOT of people call them that, and it must have originated with one of those talk radio guys because I've heard it so many times using just those 2 names. Hilarious. So, in your mind, those guys are classic liberals huh? They were fascists, period. It reminds me of the idiots who think everyone who ever died in Russia or China is a victim of atheism. ROFL!!! They were some of the most superstitious, twitchy fuckers in history. Get over yourselves.

  • June 21, 2012, 4:05 p.m. CST

    Clarification...

    by gotilk

just so I'm not misconstrued. Obama is NOT getting my vote... so don't label me. Neither is Elder Romney(I can say that... I'm a Mormon officially). Even if I consider myself liberal, to a certain extent, I refuse to give either of those men my vote. But to not give Obama credit where it IS due... just stupid and childish. If Reagan gets credit for *taking down the wall*, then Obama gets credit for taking out Osama. More-so.

  • June 21, 2012, 4:06 p.m. CST

    officially... lol

    by gotilk

    I meant technically.

  • June 21, 2012, 4:37 p.m. CST

Ok..stop with the politics...truth is YOU don't know...

    by Darth Macchio

..and forget vampires. Let's keep it real with a home invader. I'd bet each and every president - all the ones you love and all the ones you hate - would absolutely protect their families and homes. I think even people who weren't president or didn't even run would do the same. Hate Palin or Trump or Kucinich or Fonda or even Ted Nugent/Rachel Maddow - all of them wouldn't hesitate to fight whatever or whomever needed to be fought to protect the ones they love. Imagine that! Life isn't binary! Whoopee! I also believe each and every one of you - outward badasses to bird-chested dandies, would also do whatever was necessary to protect those you love from any attackers.

True, there is more to it and I commend Mr. Obama for his part in it. But the fact of the matter is, he ordered it as Commander-in-Chief. He wasn't on the ground, didn't pull the trigger, and didn't risk his life. More credit, I think, goes to the SEALs, pilots and support crew who actually performed the mission. (I admit I'm quite biased, being former Navy and having worked in SpecWar.) But really, that is all beside the point. I was merely sizing up former presidents physically and jokingly pointing out that there have been more "tough-guy" republicans than democrats. While it was a slight dig at Harry's left-leanings, it was not intended as serious political commentary. I find it amusing that so many are touchy about it. We are talking about which of our presidents would be (or would have been) good at fighting and killing vampires, which isn't something I consider when evaluating the candidates for president! (Although I might start) Oh, and I can call him "Elder Romney" too, and I'm telling your bishop you dropped the F-bomb! :)

dadeoralive slobberingly said in his best big boy voice: "Ever wonder why "liberal" sounds like "liberty" and "conservative" sounds like "cunt"?" Except you are wrong in both cases. Liberal does not rhyme with liberty and CONservative is not pronounced with a "u" in it, you mouth-breathing, half-witted, left-wing, idiot.

  • Also the exit out of the basement to the night sky was really cool.
