Want to hear the most annoying sound in the world? Because I'm sure it sounds something like Jim Carrey walking out the door on the proposed DUMB & DUMBER sequel.
After seemingly getting the band back together with interest to revisit the characters of Lloyd Chrstmas and Harry Dunn nearly 20 years later, Carrey has exited DUMB & DUMBER TO (yep, that was the proposed title)amid growing frustration that both New Line and Warner Bros. just aren't as excited about the project as everyone else, me included.
Carrey confirmed his departure to Entertainment Tonight, further adding, "I would have thought DUMB AND DUMBER TO was a no-brainer, after all it's implied in the title."
Does this mean DUMB AND DUMBER TO is dead? As of now, yes. Without Jim Carrey, what's really the point? We saw what happened when you don't have both Carrey and Jeff Daniels in those roles with DUMB AND DUMBERER, and it sure wasn't pretty. I can't imagine Daniels returning without Carrey in tow, so this unfortunate turn of events really puts the kibosh on what may have finally been a return to form for the Farrellys.
However, if there's a glimmer of hope at all that this could get back on track, it's because you've got to know someone over at New Line and/or Warner Bros. is on the phone this morning, kissing some ass, trying to show Jim Carrey some love in order to bring him back into the fold. And, if they're not, they should be. How could they let this one slip through their fingers over what seriously amounts to some bullshit?
