20th Century Fox Wants To Tell You How To Get, How To Get To SESAME STREET...

The studio has picked up the movie rights to the long-running and iconic children’s television show and has tapped longtime Street writer Joey Mazzarino to pen the script.

[EDIT]

Sesame Workshop, the company behind the show (and formerly known as Children’s Television Workshop), likely will be involved in a producer capacity as well

...says THIS piece in THR, about the picture which'll be produced by Shawn Levy, director /producer of the NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM films and the considerably better than it could've been REAL STEEL.

Sesame Street  has already been alluded to/implied in/a setting for several Muppet-centric  movies  - this scene in THE MUPPET MOVIE being one example...

...and much of the hugely regrettable FOLLOW THAT BIRD and ELMO IN GROUCHLAND being others.  Hopefully this new project will fare far better.

No word on who will direct Fox's SESAME movie (Levy?), or what exact shape it'll take, but the writer mentioned above - Joey Mazzarino - is an acomplished SESAME STREET scribe who, well, also scripted MUPPETS FROM SPACE and the afore mentioned ELMO IN GROUCHLAND.

I'm a tremendous fan of the MUPPETS but found Disney's 2011 MUPPET movie a bit forced and unengaging.  I firmly believe there's a ton of lovely material still waiting to be explored in the Muppetverse...perhaps Levy can find a way to capture the spirit and heart that was missing from the Mouse's most recent picture?
