MEN IN BLACK 2.... Will Smith comments
Hey folks, Harry here. Apparently Will Smith was on ACCESS HOLLYWOOD today, and according to the dozen or so folks that saw it, he said that the new script to MEN IN BLACK 2 was "BRILLIANT" and that it has something to do with an Intergalactic War. He is signed on to star, but there is no word on director or when it is expected to come out. I imagine they'll shoot for a July 4th weekend 2002, but that's speculative.
Of course the question comes to mind, that perhaps MEN IN BLACK is already uncool, what with the uber coolness of GALAXY QUEST. But that's probably just me.

I could really give a crap about this movie. Saw the prequel to MIB2 on video tape and thought it was okay. Hope the next one makes some more action figures. Anyway, real point is the new B&W Harry head sucks. I thought my SOMETHING ABOUT MARY head idea was much cooler.
-
With the utter coolness of Galaxy Quest, they should get Galaxy Quest director Dean Parisot to be the director. Men in Black is a mix of Sci-Fi and Comedy just like Galaxy Quest. Parisot worked with Tony Shaloub in Galaxy Quest and Shaloub could reprise his Jeebs role.
-
What MIB prequel are you talking about?
-
Ignore my post above, I am a retard...I missed the "2"
-
yeah, smith is getting kinda old. he's gotta find better and more original material. i don't know his ability of choosing great scripts. but hey, if the money and merchandising is there. guess i'm not to anxious to see one of his movies. him as ALI is a very bad idea. somebody has to take smith out on a vacation soon.
-
This isn't exactly related, but... I can't believe a guy who (over)uses the word 'brilliant' to describe EVERYTHING he likes is mocking Will Smith for using it once. That could go for Harry, or Moriarty, or, now that I think about it, just about ANY of the lugheads that run this site (except, in all fariness, for Father Geek, who seems to realize the world isn't black and white). If I had a dime for every time Harry or Moriarty thought something was 'brilliant' I could single-handedly fund the FX budgets for Episode II, Episode III, and LOTR combined. Harry, Moriarty, and everyone else... wake up... the more you use a phrase, the less impact it has...
-
As bad as Jar Jar was, he was like 2 and half times better than MIB.
-
The whole fun of MiB was that it took place here in the modern world, behind closed doors, where aliens DO exist with you and me. We just don't know about it. But, what's this about an intergalactic war? What's the point to Men In Black if it takes place on some other planet? Where's the secrecy? The whole point of us not knowing what's really going on out there if it happens on some other planet? I'll TRY and keep an open mind, but I just can't help but feel that this is gonna bomb BIG TIME. The MiB animated series is so good, I'd hate for them to have to change formats because of a sequal.

MIB2 "brilliant"? You're not fooling anybody, Your Freshness...
by lesterb
I really, really doubt that the script for MIB 2 is "brilliant". "American Beauty" was brilliant. "The Sixth Sense" was brilliant. "The Talented Mr. Ripley" was brilliant."Men in Black" was mediocre at best. And by the way, when is Will Smith going to stop making crap movies? The guy is a talent. Anyone who's seen "Six Degrees of Separation" knows that. He should have gotten an Oscar nom for it. I'm looking forward to "Ali" because I think it's a big step for him. Get out of these action-comedies before you're typecast, Will, and show off your acting chops a bit.

A friend of mine accidently turned on Fear & Loathing last night
by dirtfish
I was thought MIB was miscast and that Brian Denehey and Paulie Shore would make a much better double act. Look out for the Al-i-ens!

Come on Will....Do the sequel we all want you to do....Bad Boys
by darthshaggy
The Idea of Will Smith saying the next project he's working on is brilliant is like a car salesman trying to sell you a piece of crap. We've seen this act before with "Wild Wild West".
Will cut the crap and get together with Bruckheimer, Tony Scott, and Martin Lawerance for "Bad Boys 2" or "Return of the Bad Boys" please!! -
"MIB 2"-Yeah, sure...
-
Universal Studios Florida officially opens this ride to the public this Friday, and it features Will Smith and Rip Torn reprising their roles from the first film. Also, Michael Winslow ("Police Academy") provides the voice for most of the aliens in the ride.
-
Toby, I agree that a sequel to GQ would cheapen the original film. Any possible loose ends were tied up by the end of the film, and there would be nowhere interesting to take the story. As for MIB 2, they'd have to work overtime to make it really click. The original was great, but the sequel would have to be more than a retread. And NO rap song from Smith on the soundtrack! P.S. Today's Harry head is dead boring.
-
Alright, "Galaxy Quest" wasn't quite a film that falls into the 'great' category for me, but it *was* one of the most enjoyable film experiences for me in the last year, so that's saying something. A sequel? So easy to screw up, but in theory...in theory...it could be done. My own suggestion is that the story take it's cue again from real life, and essentially pit classic Trek versus Next Generation. The suggestion would be that a new crew and new conceptual team had taken over the revamped Galaxy Quest show (glimpsed at the end of the movie), and that new crew would then somehow become embroiled in actual cosmic doings just as in the first flick. BUT (here's the hook)...Tim Allen and company are not to be left out! Y'see, some factions of the aliens they saved still hold that they're the greatest space heroes - old, sure, but still superior to their younger replacements. This sets up a ton o' humor aimed at the rift between classic Trek and all the Next Gen shows. Both shows will take some good ribbing, but in the end, the two different crews will make amends and team up to kick alien ass. Heartwarming family stuff, but the satirical elements will keep it from becoming too sentimental. Oh yeah, and there'll be more kick-ass (and comical) space battle showdowns, as in the first flick. Comments anyone?

Do you guys read these posts or do you just all bitch? The majority of you read like frustrated film students or loser producers!"I only saw a teaser trailer, but man,I KNOW this movie is gonna SUCK! This is because this movie isn't following my fantasy;therefore,IT SUCKS!" or my personal favorite, "I don't give two shits what the subject is,I'm going to bitch about the Phantom Menace the rest of my fuckin'life!" Take some damn MIDOL ,and get a damn clue!
-
Harry, I LOVE what you do for head!
-
MIB sucked? Did you guys get some kinda sucky version in the States or something? MIB was... BRILLIANT! Scifi-comedy hadn't been this good since Spaceballs! As for MIB2, well.. someone said they were trying to keep an open mind about it but couldn't see how it could work. Jeez - you know a tiny crack in the roof could be considered "open", but I don't think it's quite the same thing. Why don't you wait and see. Personally I'm excited by the idea and, WWW aside, I think Smith has actually been quite savvy in choosing decent vehicles for himself. Have to agree on him not appearing on the soundtrack anymore, tho. WILL PLEASE DON'T DO ANY MORE SOUNDTRACKS! GET OVER YOURSELF...
-
Y'know, I didn't see how a sequel to Galaxy Quest could work, but your idea could really be funny. Next to nitpicking over the original series, Trekkies favorite pastime is arguing over the diffrences between it and TNG, and the potential for inside jokes is endless. Making the captain a Shakespearean-type who clashes with Allen's Shatner persona and so on. Great idea!
-
I think it's time Will does something different for a change. BTW, did anyone actually see WWW. Will as Ali - all I want is a break.
-

Ali personally asked Will to star in the film of his life
by fatal discharge
In the same interview, Will said he turned down doing the Ali bio-pic 8 times until Ali personally called him and said he wanted Will to do it. Who can turn Ali down? I think this will be a great move forward in his career to show he can actually act and not just play the smartass all the time. ID4 and MIB were great fun popcorn movies but because they made so much money then they seem to be dissed because of it. Anyway, hopefully Will learned from WWW and is seeking out different types of roles...but that doesn't mean a MIB2 will not be good.
-
So go re-read his post. Will Smith's head has gotten so big it should apply for statehood. And Ali asks a lot of people a lot of things. So do elementary school kids, and actually the two have a lot in common nowadays.
-
Can someone please tell me the name of the movie in which Wil Smith plays a cocky guy in fancy duds who constantly delivers smug one liners? Take your time. It's a long list...I'd prefer to see Carlton Banks in a movie rather than Smith. He was always the funnier of the two... As for Smith's crappy soundtrack efforts, don't expect them to stop anytime soon. That dopey WWW song probably made more money than the movie itself.
-
anyone else remember will saying he wasnt gonna do sequels?! Whafuck?!?!?!?!?
-
Is the big screen outing of THE HITCH-HIKER'S GUIDE TO THE GALAXY. This project has been in development hell for a long time. In fact, it was probably the prescence of Douglas Adams's Hitch-Hiker script on the hollywood treadmill a few years back which helped MIB get made in the first place as they both explore similar themes. So YO! studio dudes, wipe that powder off your nose, put the starlet down and pull your pants up and for fuck's sake get this made! The books themselves have an international fan base that the BattleField earth producers could only dream of and the best thing is, you are actually supposed to laugh at them.
-
Will makes one bad movie and everybodies all over him. Cyber guy your one sick bastard!! There just movies. Give Will a chance to prove himself as an actor. i think he will do a good job in Ali!! He was great in Six Degrees of Seperation!!! Id4 and Mib were fun popcorn movies, if you don't like them too bad. Most people do!
-
They already made a movie about The Hitchiker's Guide To The Galaxy like 10 years ago. You can rent it at Blockbuster, and from what I've heard. . . DON'T. Not if you loved the books.
-
Well, I did!
-
is that he has a slight case of Travolta-itis. Smith has problems saying no to bad scripts. WWW? Bad script. MIB was hilarious - one line 'all this technology and your driving a Ford POS?'. I do agree that he should probably stop making so many soundtrack contributions, or music contributions for that matter (Miami is too good of a city to be subjected to this indignity - keep this guy away from New Orleans). As for an MIB2, I have my doubts but it could be good (and an intergalatic war doesn't necessarily mean Star Wars, could merely be the backdrop device to get the movie going). Galaxy Quest 2? Please, don't fuck with perfection! Ali? I can see Smith doing the part - especially the wise-ass elements of Ali's personality that made him interesting. Oh, and why is Smith a black actor all of a sudden? The man is a good actor period, don't diminish that by failing to compare him to his white and hispanic counterparts.
-
Everytime I read a post on this site, I am given proof that the Internet is filled with frustrated geeks. Anything that the majority of people like, you all have to bash. ID4...obviously people dig this movie or else it wouldn't be the 4th highest grossing movie ever. Episode 1...Second highest grossing movie. Will Smith soundtracks...constantly number one on the pop charts. If this was 1977 I can just imagine all you guys going to see Star Wars and saying how it was the worst movie you've ever seen! That comic book guy on the Simpsons is meant to parody people like all of you. I really think you guys just like to sound cynical because it's the only way you can kind of sound cool. Harry, you've got to find a way to get a better class of readers, man, before you become highly marginalized.
-
And I couldn't agree with you more. Nearly EVERY poster on this site has done nothing but bashed, bitched and complained for the longest. And I agree with you on how annoying as hell it is. In fact, this is the first time I've used the Talk Back in the last 2 months or so because of it. But at the same time, it's not like it some big issue about guys like these who bicker every damn minute. You're right, the main reason these guys bash to begin with is because they want to fit in with the rest of the bashers on this site. But at the same time, it's no big deal because there's gonna be assholes everywhere you go, even on Aint-It-Cool-News. And Harry, how can you take this shit from all of these bickering readers?
-
I worship the man, I do. I even watched "Volcano", just because he was in it. It's true, I need a life.
-
Kill me. MEN IN BLACK sucked. Will Smith suckes. Let's make another Wild wild west whlie we're at it.
-
I loved Men In Black and I HATED, let me repeat that, HATED Galaxy Quest. I can see MiB2 working with an intergalactic war that has to be hidden by the MiB when the war threatens to come to our home turf. I agree that GQ2 should not be made, but not for the same reasons as the other posters, but because it sucked! I can't say this enough...I HATED GALAXY QUEST!!! It totally blew donkeyschlong (except Tony Shalhoub...he was good.) Fire away, freaks.
-
Apparently VEERS thinks that MIB2 will be Will Smith's fourth crappy summer blockbuster in a row. I agree completely, but this, ladies and gentlemen, is the same VEERS who is looking forward to this summer's wannabe blockbuster: The X-Men. I promise you, it will be "uncanny" how bad this movie will be. Back to your comic books and jerk-off sessions, VEERS. Be gentle in your fire-back, I'm fragile.
-
let's see. in id4 smith's character was = loud and thought he was the best thing since sliced bread. in www smith's character was = loud and thought he was the best thing since sliced bread. in mib smith's character was = loud and thought he was the best thing since sliced bread. in bad boys smith's character was = loud and thought he was the best thing since sliced bread. hmmm. the man's got quite a range. let me see... and now he's playing ali, who is loud and thinks he's the best thing since sliced bread. okay, maybe ali was loud and the best thing since sliced bread, but smith isn't good enough to spit shine his shoes. as if the coon and the sambo hadn't gotten enough attention in birth of a nation, smith, gooding jr., and chris tucker are bringing them back. what's next, the black buck and the pickininny? the horror.

Hey Die Harry Die!!! Is that some racism at the end of your message??? If so, why don't you take it somewhere else, you sick bitch!! Your opinion means shit!
-
Hey, MONKEYMAN, you accuse "DIE-HARRY-DIE" of being a racist, when it is you in fact that are making fun of African-Americans with the word "MONKEY" in your name. Maybe it's your opinion that is not worth crap!!! You shameless bigot!!
Tee-Hee-Hoo-Hoo, I'm such a trouble maker! -
WOW, THATS NEWS TO ME DUDER, I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THAT PRODUCTION AND I FOLLOW THIS STUFF, I HAVEN'T SEEN IT ON THE REAL GUIDE ANYWHERE
( the earth edition, no shit, great site)BUT THAX FOR THE INFO AND I SHALL AVOID IT LIKE THE PLAGUE. FOR ME TO SEEK THIS OUT WOULD BE LIKE A GENUINE STAR WARS FAN SEEKING OUT THE THE MUCH FABLED PAULY SHORE-MARTHA STEWART REMAKE OF EPISODE IV (3D).
