You Can Play The WRECK-IT RALPH Video Game Right Now!
Nordling here.
I dig the WRECK-IT RALPH trailer quite a bit and I have the feeling it's going to be fairly huge. And now Disney has put the game on its WRECK-IT RALPH site for all to enjoy.
Verdict? Well, it's no Donkey Kong, but it's pretty enjoyable. I was always a Qix man myself - really dug drawing lots of squares. Play it for yourself!

If they would have had 3D rendered pacman in Tron legacy some idiot would have said it was stupid even though he was in the first Tron

I liked that game, too, but I couldn't figure out why. I would always give it a go whenever I went to the arcade and it seemed almost like an obligation. Strange.

I'm still not convinced that Zangief is a bad guy! (don't his endings normally involve beating up bears and dancing with Russian presidents?) but that's not the point... Video game references look like they have really been nailed. This is surely the tip of the iceburg in terms of cameos, and while it might be shooting fish in a barrel, looks like they are all really doing good stuff with that. Everything else looks bog-standard. The girl in the tree, the "jokes", nothing else stands out. They've got an excellent frame work, will wait to see on the filling.
-
They never really got the home version of Rampage right. And by the time the technology caught up in the home, that game was ancient history. Sad, really. It was a blast. And the updated, higher quality graphics versions always seemed to be trying too hard to be something more. The game was perfect as it was. Ah well.. I've been trying to remember the name of a game I used to play every day for like... a solid year by where I worked. It was like a game show.... but you went from room to room killing everything. And there was a voice that used to say... BIG MONEY BIG PRIZES!! Anyone remember the name of that game??

Why on earth would anyone want to punch Ultratron in the face?
by gotilk
Umad?
-
that was a great but hard game, well hard for me. lol but definitely fun. and i always thought Rampage was great on the Sega Master system. it actually resembled the arcade version. the characters were a little "fatter" but close enough for a first gen console. now Nintendo's version on the other hand, it was TERRIBLE!!! there were these tiny crappy little sprites you could barely see. but its no secret since Sega always had the better graphics while Nintendo had the better games.

"swan song" Is this Disney's last movie?
-
ET appears several times in the movie, but none of the other game characters will have anything to do with him. He's a pariah, because he almost destroyed the video game industry.
-
All the game characters are in a bar, and suddenly a huge fight breaks out between Pac-Man and KC Munchkin
-
there's a hush..... everyone falls silent. Someone buys him a drink. One of the newer game characters asks what's up. Mario tells him... *Best-a game ever. Almost a-no one a-played it.* The little guy grows to three times his original size once he finishes the drink and shoots everyone in the bar dead. End scene.

YES! Smash TV!! Thanks. Yeah, it was hard. There was this place by my work that had Smash TV and *Toobin'*. Both fun. I never tried Rampage on Sega Master system. Just Nintendo. And yeah, it was terrible. Then someone did an upgraded version, either on SNES or Sega-CD (some time around that time) and it was even worse. I remember thinking they can do something like Clayfighters and they STILL can't get that primitive Rampage game right??
-
..at the box office with this Ralph thing. "Brave" looks like - yes, I know it's been said before, but it's true - "How To Train Your Dragon" minus the dragon, also like "I Am Celtic Woman Hear Me Roar" and yawwwwnnnn. But Ralph looks ace. I mean Q*BERT for god's sake!!!! Can't wait to see this. And its box office will make last November's Disney entry - the Muppets - look even more like shit. Can't wait!

NOTHING like Donkey Kong, That Wreck it Ralph game is just awful. You think they would have spent a little more time on it, seeing as a whole movie is based on it.

Lame choice to rip off a well known game character. Disney just wanted to be able to own the main guy rather than subletting Donkey Kong. See why greed sucks?

He's a Ruskie featured in a Cold-War era (albeit the end of the cold war) video game series
-
He was just some big Russian guy who idolized Mike Hagger and wrestled in a tournament. But between the cold war and JCVD people just think he's a "bad guy"...
-
That's just the web game. I'm sure the actual videogame tie-in (what? no one else sees it coming? really?) will have the depth of gameplay you crave...

That trailer is fucking terrible. I grew up in the 80s and the Arcade was my life ...
by Ray_Tango
... and this trailer doesn't catch that vibe in the least. And that scene with the girl saying what Ralph is saying. Ugh. How many Disney films have had a variation on that scene now? Oh ha ha. An obnoxious kid is repeating what another character is saying ... let's make that the main scene we show in the trailer. Donkey raping shiteaters.
-
The odds of Nintendo casually loaning Donkey Kong to Disney, or even going in for less than a 50/50 take, are pretty damn high. Disney couldn't make anywhere near as much money trying to license one of Nintendo's characters. Nintendo doesn't see movies as a licensing opportunity. They're competition. If Nintendo wants to put DK or Mario in a movie, they will most likely do it themselves, but you know what the real truth is? Since the Super Mario movie/abortion, Nintendo wouldn't risk putting one of their game properties on the big screen again for fear of harming their franchises. Now if Disney had tried to license Sonic characters? Very doable.
-
As the central characters, not just for cameos.
-
We need more rafting games.
-
Hes been in several well received games since his debut, Wreck It Ralph seems stuck in his first game from the looks of the trailer..

This game is a bazillion times more fun than the trailer.
by TheyPeedOnYourFuckingRug
It's kind of Rampage-in-reverse, but so what, it's an enjoyable little time-waster. Would have been right at home in an arcade in 1982. The trailer was very underwhelming and in no way suggests that this will do for video games what Roger Rabbit did for cartoons. WRECK-IT RALPH shouldn't look and feel like a generic Pixar movie.
-
I have it on my XBOX Live arcade.

"And that scene with the girl saying what Ralph is saying. Ugh. How many Disney films have had a variation on that scene now?" Name some.

Sure: Um. Fuck. Okay I can't. You win. I'm just a troll. But that doesn't stop me from thinking that trailer felt overly familiar.
-
My favorite "old-school" arcade game. Still would love to have a Mr. Do! cabinet in my home. The Wreck-It Ralph game is okay with its allusions to Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr. and Popeye. Visually it reminds me of the Spider-man game for the Atari 2600. They'd have bumped up the coolness with additional levels/scenes rather than just moving up the same building and ramping the difficulty.
-
Run coward Run.... I hunger!
-
First, he's already become a good guy in subsequent games. Second, he's been in a zillion games, not stuck doing the same thing in one game.
-
It just seems to go on and on and on and on... you know, like Pacman. At least Donkey Kong had the common decency to switch the levels up to make you feel like there was some sort of progression.
-
I think it was the first game to ever freak me out as a kid. "BEWARE, I LIVE" would get you pumping, especially if you didn't have enough bombs for a kill. "RUN, RUN, RUN" would be nerve-wracking as you saw him zooming close on the radar. You swerve left...and a FUCKING TALKING SKULL DEATH STAR narrowly misses you. Finally, you run out of bombs and can't run any more and..."RRRRAAARRRRRRRRRRGH!!! RRRAAAAAARRRRRRRRRGH!!!" And you're dead.
-
Check this out: Furries in a Blender - I am Sinistar: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JtQXadWFkZM
-
...an mcvamp's description above is just why I love it so. That pressure you feel when you're mining...and then the tension filled pursuit. Feels great when you're ready with enough bombs, but when you're not... to quote: "RRRRAAARRRRRRRRRRGH!!! RRRAAAAAARRRRRRRRRGH!!! And you're dead."
-
Neah, I didn't. But would be cool if I did.

Lunar Lander was another great one. So basic. Your only goal is to safely land your little lander without crashing and having it explode in all it's vector line glory! I got a Vectrex system in the 80's that still works.
