There Is NO Iron Patriot In IRON MAN 3!!
The Kidd here...
So it doesn't look like Iron Patriot is going to be a part of IRON MAN 3 after all.
After speculation ran rampant over the character's involvement following set pics of armor that looked exactly like that of Iron Patriot, Latino Review reports that no such appearance is in the works, and that the character we saw on-set was none other than War Machine with a star-spangled paint job.
Clearly the confusion arose by someone who wasn't Don Cheadle wearing the armor, but then again, it turns out it wasn't James Badge Dale either. It was simply a stunt man giving those two actors some time off.
"The U.S. Government has had their hands on this Stark suit for awhile, and apparently they’ve decided to make it more patriotic" is the explanation for the shift in color scheme, so now you know, while it may look like Iron Patriot, it's simply more War Machine in the next IRON MAN sequel.

Marvel damn well knows how closely it resembles Norman Osbourne's outfit. A shame as it could've been a nice sort of build up where another billionaire buffoon wants to capitalize off of the Avengers popularity and military money by having his own rival merc team that employs other heroes/villians, which could be a useful way of introducing other Marvel characters into the world. Heck it might even lay the grounds for a SIEGE storyline where Asguard begins to bump borders with the Earth or some kind of dimension shattering story where other fanciful characters begin to make Earth their new living quarters.

No shit it wasn't James Badge Dale. And another no shit that it isn't Iron Patriot.
by DanielPlainviewOnVacationInBoston
How the fucking dipshits in the last talkback thought it was is beyond me.
-
...and that mistake being letting the suits be capable of being used by anyone other than Tony.
-
Not because I dislike the character, but because of what I read about his backstory. Iron Man is one character whose mythology I honestly know nothing about. My first introduction to him was in the film. But I saw articles that the "actual" Iron Patriot was a different character than who the actor that sported the suit on set was to be playing... It just irritates me when they "combine" or tweak characters in the films (a la Whiplash). I mean, Christ, these characters have 30-50 years worth of cannon already out there. Why the fuck do you need to tweak it to fill a screenplay. Stay true to what's already been set! Sorry, it just annoys the crap out of me with this kind of stuff! ...Same is true for the new TMNT movie. Why the fuck do they need to be edgy aliens when the source material is so rich? You could crank out 4-5 solid flicks JUST based off the existing character backgrounds and all the rich TMNT rogues gallery of villains without having to create new ones and change the backstory...Literally just "cinematize" the Techno-Drome with Krang, Shredder, etc. No need for changes!

Shane Black is going rogue...is that bad or good? Only time will tell...

so I'll take this with a grain of salt, thank you.

We knew it wasn't exactly Iron Patriot. But this star-spangled suit Is going to be the govt's ongoing resistance to Tony's Ironman
by Donald Trump
By the end of Avengers, it seems like the govt and Shield heads distrust the heroes even more. Once again, an effort will be made with the War Machine program to officially replace Tony's vigilantism. Even if it's not technically Iron Patriot, the same thing is going to happen. The "patriotism" will be a disguise for evil, and the US govt will be used and and duped by the bad guys again.

I have a hard time believing Stark let the government have War Machine
by ShiftyEyedDog
Rhodey sure as hell wouldnt have brought it back to them, and Stark wouldnt just let them have it. So yeah, I call bullshit. Maybe its War Machine, but its not the governments doing.
-
Isn't this film co-produce by Chinese company??? Maybe the Chinese tell them to cut the bullshit with this American patriot shit or the'll pull out with the financial support. Money is the power.
-
Because in IRON MAN 2 he was completely against the Government taking his designs, then, in the end, didn't do anything when Rhodes took his suit and then said he wanted "in" to Fury ...after Fury had broke into his house, sent an operative to spy on his company, kept information about his dad from him, and kept him prisoner in his own home. In THE AVENGERS, Tony pretty much sacrificed his life to save The Avengers, SHIELD, earth, and America ...then got his Stark Tower blown to Hell, with it looking like SHIELD and the government doing nothing to help rebuild it. So, after all this, if Tony isn't just a little pissed off at SHIELD and the US government, not to mention his supposed "friend" for stealing his suit so that it can be used exactly the way Tony doesn't want it to be used ...then the Tony Stark character has truly become weak and routine.
-
They just didn't finish painting the suit properly so what we saw was just an undercoating... The final suit will be red, and the star will be yellow with some other smaller yellow stars here and there! Kinda like Iron Man is already... but with more zang! And maybe an actual guy named Zang piloting it...

So, in other words, all the nerds jumped to the wrong conclusion and freaked out- all based on a few blurry spy photos and speculation. Big surprise!
by Emperor_was_a_jerk
If only someone among us was level headed enough to simply suggest everyone waits to see the actual move, with the suit in context, to judge it all. Oh yeah! Someone DID suggest that! ME!

If it's not Iron Patriot, is there a Space Jockey in there?
by Stereotypical Evil Archer
Those Space Jockeys are some weird looking dudes.
-
...I know that Talk Backers are the kings and queens of jumping to errant conclusions and then stubbornly standing by them as if they were self-evidenct fact and then spending all their energy concocting colorful insults for anyone who disagrees with them... ...but you'll have to forgive anyone who thought that was Iron Patriot, since, you know, it looked exactly like Iron Patriot. It wasn't a blurry misunderstood photo. That suit of armor was done up EXACTLY like the suit of armor Norman Osborne comandeered and did up all patriotically and whatnot in the comics. That Iron Man 3 is using the SAME EXACT design for a different purpose is cool and all, but jumping to the wrong conclusion was actually justified in this instant.

They're simply slamming two characters together (War Machine and Iron Patriot) the same way they combined Whiplash and Crimson Dynamo.

Without a doubt Tony has a verbal command kill switch

for Rhodey's suit. But he let him have it. You forget Rhodey was IM for a time in the books.

Anyhow, weary of Iron Granov. We need a design from
by Bedknobs and Boomsticks
a different artist, say...Bob Layton.
-
In the photo there looked to be the mini gun on his back, however i was thinking more detroit steel than war machine. Looking at the pics now im still not quite convinced its war machine as the armour doesnt quite look right. unless its been upgraded. Another thing was the colour scheme is different to the Osborn IP. I still think its more than likely 2 characters combined or done just so Tony can rip his pal to bits for comedy value.
-
I thought they were trying some variation on Iron Patriot. Just like if the had a picture of US Agent and everyone thought it was Captain America. You cant be faulted.....
-
It was a tiny bit of information, but Iron Man suit was doing decisions single-handedly without Tony Starks input. So that was a clear giveaway for the sentient suit storyline for me. You know... that one, where the suit became sentient after the fight with Whiplash...
-
"What, was the suit at Maaco while the world was being invaded by aliens?"
-
... in Avengers when the city was being attacked? What a lazy bastard.
-
Is a play off of Captain America's popularity. This is post-Avengers, right?
-
Are we leading up to a nebulous evil organization team up in Avengers 2? Roxxon Oil/AIM/HYDRA with Red Skull pulling the strings at the request of Thanos, who found him in where ever the cube threw him.

No fucking way Rhodey would wear that. Plus it's obviously NOT the War Macine armor. PLUS: War Machine design is fucking cool, why would the film makers ditch that? Also, I love how Shane Black is hammering us over the head by the EVIL PATRIOTISM meme. So fucking subtle. nice!
-
it's a comic book movie designed to sell merchandise and reach the broadest possible audience. If anything I'd say they are being too subtle. :P
-
Iron Man's suit runs off his Ark reactor right? So how come Rhodie can even power War machine? Does Tony build an Ark reactor into every suit?
-
He must as rhodey had it in the mark 2 armour he took and im pretty sure it showed him removing it.
-
but the one on his chest is working the electromagnet that keeps the metal from entering his heart.
-
no you saw him removing Whiplash's reactor and crushing it, War Machine kept his.
-
Years ago, there was an issue of Marvel;s "What IF", where Stark built armor for all the Avengers members (I think because the more powerful members like Thor abandoned the group). There were suits for Giant Man, the Wasp and a couple others (maybe Rick Jones). Anyway, I thought maybe the Star-Spangled suit was just going to be a throwaway background prop in the flick where maybe Stark had built a suit for Steve Rogers. Guess not, but would have been funny.

They did this so War Machine wouldn't look waaay cooler than Iron Man for a change
by cgih8r
It's hard to believe this is iron patriot since it looks exactly like him. But I can understand why it may just be a nod to the fans of the character seeing how they could not represent him properly as being Norman Osborn. Think how much belly aching there would be over that character change...YEESH

would it not be made more stealthy & painted with Radar absorbing Stealth Paint?!?!

-
yeah, they both have a star on their chest and red/white/blue paint job. IP has a red head/chest/shoulders, where as the "War Machine" movie Maaco job is mostly blue. I originally thought this was simply to help differentiate IM and IP at a glance, or in close up. sure, any ADHD kid could believe that THEZ AR EXAKLEY TEH SAMEZZZ!!! http://wac.450f.edgecastcdn.net/80450F/screencrush.com/files/2012/05/patriot.jpg
-
It's not even set AFTER the Avengers? Could take place right after IM2
-
LOL. Well said.
-
And I thought U.S. superhero films now have more edge. Pass
-
So don't pretend you wouldn't have thought Iron Patriot if you were familiar with the character. Beyond the chest piece being blue instead of red, this was almost dead-on Osbourne's Iron Man suit. That being said, thank God it's not. I mean, I think it's still a sort of take on the idea of misusing the Iron Man suit as a patriotic device when in actuality it's a war machine (no pun intended) being used by government officials. I'm a meat and potatoes kind of guy when it comes to adaptations. Just don't put them together. Get the elements down correctly, keep characters as who they are to fans, but it does irk me a bit when they smash two characters into one. Iron Man 2 was a letdown, but I've seen very little that would suggest 3 is of the same cloth.
-
Goverment takeover the suit and rename it the Iron Patriot
-
Is there no GOD? WTF are we going to do now? I say we BOYCOTT the movie, nail RDJ to a cross, and do something else truly VIOLENT that I can't think of right now since I just woke up.
-
who gives a shit?
-
That's why everything that gets changed for films gets changed, because the egotistical dickheads that make movies (not all film makers) think that something is not good enough until they "improve" it. Michael Bay immediately comes to mind.

That Iron Patriot is a JOKE! they are gonna make IM 3 into a joke! That's where it is all headed
by Jonathan
-
Sorry but your wrong, just before Hammer comes to show off his weapons, Rhodey removes the arc reactor from the mark 2, its the first shot of the scene.
-
They also repeatedly said that there were no Skrulls in Avengers, but the aliens were Skrulls. They just used the Ultimates name for them. They can change minor details, like a name, and get away with saying it's not something when it basically is. And then there's the Wolverine First Class appearance people have mentioned that is them just lying to keep things surprising when they turn out to be true (of course, that was Fox and they are the devil, anyway). It may not be Iron Patriot in the exact sense comic fans know, but it certainly looks Iron Patriot-ish.
