Here's a Gwen Stacy and The Lizard scene from THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN from Leno!
Hey folks, Harry here... Earlier today, in "The Basement" I was entertaining and educating a group of kids - all under the age of 10 - all being a part of a Tae Kwon Do summer camp that includes going to see movies and various other cool outings - as well as teaching the kids the Tae Kwon Do code and skills. This instructor happens to be a long term friend of Yoko's - so when he asked if I wouldn't mind teaching the kids a bit about the production of our show - and mainly talk to them about film and cool things, well... I jumped at it. I've sponsored the SATURDAY MORNING KIDS CLUB at the Alamo Drafthouse for coming up on 14 years - and the first 8 or so years, I hosted every single one. So I love talking film with kids. Now they had all just seen JOURNEY 2: THE MYSTERIOUS ISLAND and so they all thought it was the best film they'd ever seen, except for one kid who said AVENGERS, then commented that he hadn't seen it yet. I like that kid's gusto. Anyway, I happened to have the original MYSTERIOUS ISLAND poster out, told them about that film, but at one point I asked if any of them loved SPIDER-MAN and they all got quite excited - so I went to my desk and pulled out AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #6, the first appearance of the Lizard and then took them through The Lizard's orgin and taught them about Stan Lee and Steve Ditko. Then taught them all how to pretend to have one arm, drink imaginary serums and POOF - the arm grows back.
So then I come home to find THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN has a pair of cool scenes up - this first one is with Gwen Stacy in a Lab - Spider-Man calling to warn her the LIZARD is on the way - tis pretty damn cool:
then there's this clip, which is all about the police trying to nab SPIDER-MAN... He's a real swinger!

But still think the Lizard has a shitty look. This really needs Kraven the Hunter in it.

bus! I like what I'm seeing here, but would be more receptive had Raimi never made his movies beforehand. Now this go-to grounded approach just feels impure compared to what Raimi did, and a little unnecessary. It doesn't feel like a step forward in the right direction. The right direction for Spider-Man now is to become integrated into the Marvel cinematic universe. That said, this movie should satisfy those who wanted to see James Camerons version. This is, at least, in visual terms what Camerons Spidey would have looked like. Plus, the more extensive use of wire-work and parkour has payed off big time. Spidey looks ten times more believable here than he ever did in the Raimi pics.

...and that mistake being rebooting so soon. Spider-Man 3 was awful, but not unforgivable to the point a reboot was needed.

"You're still gonna stay there for 8 minutes after what I just told you?"
by YourMomsBox3D
Great line. I am loving the smart-ass Spider-Man they've showcased. Even the corny I'm swinging here line works in a goofball way because Peter is a nerd with confidence behind the mask. It's kind of something he would shout. My only gripe is the directorial decision to have him talking on a cell phone out on the open street. I get that they are going for a contemporary approach, so cell phones and the like make sense to come into play, but maybe that should have been set with Spidey on a rooftop. Visually, it just looks silly with him on the sidewalk like that.
-
I understand Spidey's more of a "jokester" in this movie, as he naturally should be, but that line resulted in a nice facepalm from me. We don't need cheesy one-liners. Also- first clip has been removed.
-
**prepare for incoming rant** 3......2.......1 Absolutely nothing about this movie looks good to me.....NOTHING. Why the hell would anyone want to go sit through the GODDAMN origin story all over again. I mean even people who have never picked up a comic book in their life know the fucking Spider-man origin by now!! Seriously, who the HELL thought this was a good idea?!? The suit looks like complete SHIT!! The Lizard looks like complete SHIT!! The guy playing Parker looks like Shit! Did I mention the suit looks like SHIT!?!? ...."Hey, I'm swinging here"..........Really Sony?? I mean REALLY?? and by the way, FUCK JAY LENO!! No talent, bit stealing, unfunny ASSHOLE!!! Give Conan back the show and go kiss Howard Stern's ass for stealing all of those bits from him you FUCK-TARD!! **end rant** Thank you, I feel a little better now...........................but really fuck Leno and this movie.

Spidey is supposed to make GOOD jokes and amusing groaners. That clip had neither. I really doubt the writers had these awesome funny jokes that they rejected later because it was out of character to make Parker actually funny.
-
looks a LOT like Grig. The facial features are really close except for the coloring. If you don't know who Grig is then you are a failure as a fanboy/girl.
-
And it's a fucking atrocity. One of the worst big budget films ever made. Raimi clearly lost the handle, started ret-conning shite from the first movie already, made Maguire portray Parker as a major asshole, made MJ a self-involved thin-skinned cunt, and put Harry through three major personality changes then killed him off for "emotional resonance". I also liked how the big baddy got a free pass at the end from murdering dozens of cops and civilians because he told Petey that he was "really broken up about accidentally shooting your uncle". WTF! Too much garbage packed into way too long a movie. SONY clearly had to do something drastic at that point, and I give these guys the benefit of the doubt.

Of course, I'll reserve judgment until I hear the whole score in the movie, but that wasn't as good as I'd hoped. Even for rehashed Horner that swinging theme was sorta dopey. But it still looks better than Raimi's versions. Jumping on the side of the truck and leaping off cars n stuff had unity of action and looked like a real person doing it. That was good enough.

It seems the only remaining question is the overall quality of the script and Webb's direction (I did hear that the web-stuntwork was second unit. Vic Armstrong I think?) I'm a huge fan of Raimi's second film and think the first is an uneven but fun debut flick. S-M3, I don't talk about. I'm big enough to admit I will give this a chance.

I'm iffy on this movie, too, but it's GOT to be a step up from the Raimi films. Honestly, those were just pure shit. I know Spider-man 3 was awful, but the other two were waaaay worse than most people thought. I feel like they got the tone of Spider-Man himself right in this movie, but I'm not sure about the rest. Guess we'll see. But again, haters, this will be worlds better than that first shitfest of a Spider-Man trilogy.

I mean, Spidey isn't Batman. He does do his superhero stuff during the daylight hours. I guess this makes it easier for the VFX guys to do their things, but still. Spider-Man was always about a bright, colorful, kinda goofy-looking daylight superhero to me (same with Superman...things should be bright and colorful.) This movie is starting to look like Batman with web-shooters.

Music is a little worrisome but the swinging looks so much better.
by BlackBauer0320
Although in that one shot, right after his initial bridge web, the composition just looks off (the scene that's in all the trailers). His pose and positioning make it appear he's moving toward the screen, but then he's swinging backward. Anyone else notice this?

BATMAN IS THE ONLY MOVIE TO HAVE EVER TAKEN PLACE AT NIGHT AND EVERY OTHER MOVIE THAT TAKES PLACE AT NIGHT IS COPYING IT.
by BlackBauer0320
I mean seriously, how can you watch that clip and compare this to Batman? The tones could not be more different. And frankly, the effects do look better at night, and I don't consider that a cop out, I consider it smart. We've seen there will be Spidey scenes during the daytime anyway, from the other trailers.
-
Really now? First it's THE CGI LOOKS LIKE SHITE!!!! Then it was LIZZARD LOOKS LIKE SHITE!!! Now it's REAL EFFECTS LOOK LIKE SHITE!!! NEEDS CGI!!!!! You haters are apparently stuck in some sort of loop, except your heads are so full of horse crap, that you forgot what you've been typing over the last few months. Someone go get Raimi and have him make S-M 4 with the Vultress. Then come back here and tell me how great 3 & 4 are, and how waiting 5 years was too short a time to make a new Spider Man movie, and it didn't need a reboot. You face palmed over the "I'm walkin here!" line? Well then you must have done the same thing in Back to the Future II, when Marty's future son was crossing the road, and used the EXACT SAME LINE! OH NOEZ!! Not that! *FACEPALM* Yeah, right. Man, do I fucking hate most of you lame fucks. /rant off
-
Hired by every movie studio (except Sony) to call out anyone looking forward to a movie and generate negative buzz about it.
-
Peter is a school student, and as such is IN SCHOOL DURING THE DAY. Then, judging from the trailer, he's doing stuff with Gwen and Dr. Conners, AFTER SCHOOL. Then, he goes home to Aunt May, then maybe to, oh i don't know STUDY, which means he's going out as SPIDER MAN at NIGHT. Since, you know, it's the only part of the day he can do it. All that, and all it took was a little common sense and fucking logic to figure out. But no, some other lame ass reason to complain.
-
I share your hate, man. I share your hate. One of my fantasies is a me, a flamethrower, and a bunch of AICN trolls in one room with a gasoline-soaked carpet.
-
Look Ma, it's an Amazing Spiderman talkback!!!!! Plant's galore. Mmmmmmm...................Leafy.
-
I just meant that I want some color in a Spidey movie. Yeah, the effects DO look good in the dark. But doing it at night is a shortcut for VFX guys to get the effects done more easily. Doing the same "under-the-bridge" shots in broad daylight would be more difficult, but they'd also be more in keeping with what I'd want to see from a Spidey movie. <p> And I'm not saying that "Batman is the only movie that takes place at night and other movies copy Batman." But The Night is such a central part of Batman's story that it SHOULD take place at night. I'd expect the same from a Blade movie, or a Spawn movie, or even a Punisher movie. They're all "dark/night themed," for lack of a better term. Characters like Spider Man, Superman, The Avengers are bright, colorful, flashy, hopeful, "happy" characters (compared to Batman, moping about his parents) that they really should happen, at least in large part, in the day time.
-
I don't disagree really. I just thought the phrase "Batman with webshooters" took the idea a bit too far, and unfortunately it seems to be a common thread around here. Judging by what we see in these clips, they're still attempting to keep those elements of color, brightness, and happiness, perhaps accomplishing it through other means (such as an overly peppy score). There is definitely at least one big action scene during the day at the high school though. It's a double edged sword, because these movies are constantly under fire for the CGI, so you can understand them taking some measures to get around that (practical effects, nighttime sequences), along with dealing a smaller budget than the Raimi films. All in all I think it's possible they can stay true to the character regardless of the time of day the action scenes take place in.

This was one of the things wrong with Superman Returns too, they made the tone darker (and his costume literally) and it just felt wrong. Spidey should be Pop Art, not Rembrandt!
-
Wow same Hollywood shtick garbage theyve been cranking out since the early 2000s, but yeah maybe I'm being too harsh I mean the suit does look REALLY cool, love seeing him wearing it as hes yelling into a cellphone to his gf who is about to die as a computerized voice does a countdown while doing a really cool "ingenuitive" move where she sets off the firesprinklers to save herself, very suspenseful and makes u anxious as to how its going to turn out for her. Really love the comedy theyve finally injected into Spiderman too, thats really cool "*old-timey voice: Hey, I'm swingin' here!*" and the police chief asking incredulously "38 of New York's finest, versus one guy.. in a unitard?", thats really cool and a great contribution to the "institute" of comedy in the world of cinema. As long as they haven't cut the face-fucking a stuntman scene, I think General Audiences are in for a thrill ride.

I remember when Superman Returns was being made, and all the hype made around it...all they showed and talked about for months were the effects because the story was so weak. Same thing here, This movie, if it came out 15 years ago would be tolerable....but with the record Marvel has, Nolan has .... its gonna look like a classroom project. Spiderman's cheesy one liners will be the Skids and Mudflap mistake of this movie... 1 year from now, everyone will be talking about how the next Spidey movie wont be the bad one this turned out to be....

Every single scene we've seen from this film so far is stupid.
by kevred
Are we to expect that they've decided to show as many scenes as they have so far, without them thinking that these are scenes that should convince everyone of the film's greatness? This feels like just another B-level film. It's Fantastic Four, Wolverine, Daredevil-level stuff. It doesn't even have the sort of epic/event feel that Raimi came in with, and like those films or not (and I never bothered to see the 3rd one), they felt like events. A Spidey film coming after that huge Raimi trilogy, and smack in the midst of Avengers and TDKR, should feel like an *event*. This just feels like a film without any A-list anything. It's a comedown. Spidey deserves better.
-
So glad we're getting a film where he's actually acting like the Spiderman of the comics.. Liking Gwen Stacey as well..It's gonna be so sad when..well y'know..;)

Shut the fuck up about anything being wrong with this new spider-man. I'm going to personally come to your house and force you to watch spider-man 1. Yeaah, they're finally doing spidey right and you guys act like it's unnecessary... I'll never understand that. FINALLY spiderman has personality in the suit, something raimi unbelievably failed to do. How can the guy who created evil dead with Ash spitting quips left and right completely FUCK UP spiderman. I'll never know... Everything looks extremely good. Love the jump and wall crawl on the truck. Something I hated about the raimi movies is that they couldn't do simple shit like that. He'd never wall crawl for a second or two, he'd swing, stick to the wall and then turn into cgi and look like shit doing it. Now in one clip they've completely outclassed the original garbage. Dayum...

if you can't start to dig this from the preview, you're a loser.
-
That Raimi shit sucked.
-
Maybe it's because I've seen some behind the scenes clips, but the shot of him running across the top of the truck and then swinging into the bus just looks staged and almost like its too slow. It's hard to describe, but that scene just doesn't work at all.
-
while Spidey's on the phone...I know it's New York and all, but that jumped out at me right away and just seems wrong, not in a "it violates SM / Marvel canon" kind of way, more of a "it's not common sense"way, which makes me wonder if this director knows what he's doing. The timer also goes from 8 minutes down to 1 pretty fast there, I know it's not real time but that was jarring as well and doesn't suggest good things about the sense of pacing or editing. It's dangerous to take a clip like this out of context, so I'm gonna assume for now that the finished product will somehow address the ignorant bystanders and the sudden 7-minute leap. But I'm extremely wary and going in with my guard up.
-
why would anyone want to see whole scenes from a film before they see it?
-
Her 36 year old dad thinks this looks like warmed over shit, though.
-
Is that the one with Michael Craig? If so that movie is the bomb. Someone should fish him out of retirement, he's a treasure from the silver age of Hollywood that we really shouldn't have forgot.
-
don't see the problem with the * I'm walking/swinging here* line. it cant be any more cringe inducing than the bridge scene from the first of the Raimi movies (which i do like as a movie, btw) it's not as bad as the *now thats what I'm talking about* line that always seems to crop up. when the person on questions wasn't actually talking about it.whatever it happened to be. One thing, and one criticism of the Raimi movies..at least in this, the bad guy appears to be a bad guy, for no other reason than thats what he is. SM1: Osbourne turns bad because of the serum. SM2: the limited AI in the arms told Doc Ock to be bad SM3: sandman its to help his daughter. Venom is the alien symbiote. GG2 is cos he thought spiderman killed his daddy.
-
Sounds good, kind of like the Rocketeer meets Elfman's Spider-Man stuff.
-
I've totally lost interest in this one now.
-
I'm still very apprehensive about this, but I'm enjoying the actual physical stuntwork put in as opposed to the CGI Spidey. But I still LOVE the hell out of Raimi's trilogy even though 3 was great for only half the film. And sunk into mediocrity after the Harry vs. Peter in the black suit fight.
-
I know from a logical standpoint it makes more sense that a Highschooler would do his heroing at night. But if they do it in the comics I'm cool with you doing it in the movie. Not every comic book film has to be steeped in realism. This isn't a war drama, so can we get some Spider-Man swinging in the daytime action. It's Spidey not Batman.
-
...all the hate for this film. It looks so much better than Raimi's in every way: the action, the swinging, more realistic (notice the way Parker fumbles around and makes mistakes as he's trying to escape,or how he has to use his cell phone because he's just a kid), and so on. Raimi's had a lot of campy garbage, like the Goblin singing "itsy bitsy spider" (cringe), or the close-up of the Goblin's face saying "uh-oh" before he dies, as if he were a Wile E Coyote cartoon, or the Asian chick on the street singing "Spider Man", etc etc. Just stupid infantile details. This movie will be so much better.
-
Think the Jules chick from Superbad would have made a better Mary Jane Watson-Parker. Oh yeah, FUCK the ultimate spderman universe.
-
By the time this thing actually comes out, we'll have seen 90% of the damn thing, what with all the clips they're releasing. This thing has gotten so over-hyped... Which makes me think Sony & Co. aren't entirely confident this is gonna be the blockbuster they're hoping for. Of course I think Marc Webb got the job, cuz some exec. thought it would be clever to have a guy named Webb direct a Spidey flick... I just feel like they are trying too hard to "sell" this movie, which just reinforces my fears that it will most-likely suck. And that Costume is horrible... should've grown on me by now, but it's just awfull. One of the few things they didn't need to fuck with. The suit from Raimi's flicks was spot-on.

Oh God Damn It! The typical "Children like it" Harry defense...
by TopHat
...this is what you can expect from Harry when it comes to THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN; "His nephew, kid he knows, etc. really LOVES Spider-Man and totally geeked out at this movie, so, its cool." Try to track down Moriarty's first PHANTOM MENANCE review for AICN. Harry actually hijacked his review and wrote at least SIX paragraphs before it, describing the reactions to a bunch of kids that saw the movie when he did. TRANSLATION: "Those kids loved it, so, Moriarty's totally realistic review about this, by a GROWN-UP, is null and void". And the beat goes on...

The wire work is okay... But looks like a guy on a wire and not like superhuman or anything...
by darthSaul666
Yeah I'm hating on it. Deal with it!!!

Umm, yeah, Those looking forward to this while taking shots at Raimi maybe should consider that they might be getting a little desperate... Just saying...
-
These clips look like a well filmed beer commercial. This movie sucks! I hope it bombs.

I hope he does that whenever he swings throughout the entire movie.

people complaining about Spidey making bad jokes have clearly never read a comic
by sunwukong86
Spidey's known for being kind of a sarcastic dick
-
You know what? I don't think I'll ever get angry at anything Harry writes ever again. After reading that, the dude is either deliberately trolling or completely out of reach.
-
his whole career. i dunno who started it though, it's bendis, whedon and vaughan, all three writing every character like a snarky teenage girl. whedon's the best of course, followed by vaughan i guess.. as for bendis i can only stand to read powers and only because the stories are good, the dialogue's terrible.
-
Seeing clips of the LIZARD just confirms that the design of his head is really bad. In fact - it's even worse when he's moving around. I laughed when he appeared looking in the vent. He looks like crap.

ITS GOOD BECAUSE I GET TO WATCH MARVEL RAPE YOUR SUPERHEROES. THATS WHAT HAPPENS FOR NOLAN DETRACTERS.

The Amazing Spider-Man buzz is growing by the hour, and I wouldn't be surprised with insane numbers for a reboot.
by Jack
Some of you are forgetting a lot of things that this film has going for it. But let's do a head count here: TASM premieres in one of the best dates for a blockbuster summer movie which is the 4th of July; The first real blockbuster and superhero blockbuster at that made entirely in 3D after Avatar, and all the money that the 3D brings; The average comic book geek will be there because that's what they do, either to love the film or bitch about it, just like they did with The Avengers; the American kids and families will be all by Spider-Man side, it has a much more similar feel to The Avengers than TDKR, which isn't a kids friendly film; the new upcoming English stud of Hollywood playing the lead, which means girls, a LOT of girls; the new America's girlfriend that it's dating the new Holywood stud, which means a whole SHITLOAD of girls; the director of the best romantic comedy with the best second unit that money can buy telling the single BLOCKBUSTER LOVE STORY of the summer and YOU, Nolanites reading this, you've managed to understimate all of these things. You have an army of Nolanites and a bunch of Marvel Only mewling quims ? We have THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN hitting all the American theaters come July 3rd. Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/avengers 2.7M likes and 293.672 people talking about. http://www.facebook.com/amazingspiderman 1.1M likes and 284.738 people talking about it. http://www.facebook.com/darkknightrises 721 thousand likes and 85.552 people talking about it. Rotten Tomatoes: Here, on RT, TASM has 232.426 "Want To See" so far: http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/the_amazing_spider_man/ While TDKR has 224.840 "Want To See" so far: http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/the_dark_knight_rises/ The difference of anticipation does not seem as big as some think. People like it or not, the difference between The Amazing Spider-Man and TDKR isn't as big as some might think when it comes to buzz. I've been tracking the buzz of the two films for some weeks now from the best source to track buzz IMO, Facebook and Twitter. If you think that TASM doesn't have a huge buzz you're all out of your minds. This will open huge and keep going huge. TASM will piss a hell lot of people. People like to have FUN in theaters, and The Amazing Spider-Man is the best they will get of high octane larger than life action like the General Audience loved with The Avengers. Get ready to eat a lot of crow, ladies and lads. Just like a lot of you did with The Avengers. ;)

...you know, the kind of shallow , moderately budgeted action B-movies that sony screen gems normally distributes. Not a good sign for a spider-man movie...... Seriously, 'spider-man: the dragons challenge' looks better than this shit.

Didn't they just make these movies? Gwen Stacy is super cute, though. That's the one compelling thing about this.
