TRANS4MERS Will Be The Last Bay-made TRANSFORMERS Movie!! New Cast!! Reworked Bots!! A Set Up '...for the next guy'!

...(The director, by the way, says that the fourth film will include some redesign of the robots and an entirely new cast. He also said it will be his last and set the franchise up “for the next guy.”)...

..says THIS piece over at Hero Complex.

Nothing Earth shattering, but far as I'm aware, at least...this is our first pointed (and semi-official) confirmation that the next film will 1) be a wholly new cast (a rumor/likelihood previously alluded to by Josh Duhamel) and that the Transformers themselves will be re-worked a bit for the forthcoming picture.

The new movie is due in theaters Summer 2014. The previous instalment, TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON made 1,000, kazillion-jillion-buhzillion dollars (that's over $1 billion) globally.

I saw the first two films but didnt see and avoided the 3rd one... if you take out the human characters. You are left with the decepticons and autobots. battling it out. If you jettison the earth story and place the series on planet in outer space. in some far flung galaxy. the same problem emerges. you have no human characters, just the warring robots. you have a big budget space movie about intergalatic warring robots and erm not much else. people kicked bays ass for turning transformers into a wrestlemania style destruction spectacular. but if you take out the humans, leave earth out of the picture. what kind of a film do you have.

    It's time to reboot, asshole

    by Kremzeek

The "asshole" comment is for Bay. I don't care if you love or hate the Bayformers flicks, but he's had his run - it's time for some new blood and a REBOOT. It's time for the people who FUCKING HAAAAAATE his TF movies to get their chance to see something GOOD. You guys can love the Bayformers flicks all you want. Cool, more power to ya. But it's time for the rest of the fanbase to get something worth watching. I want a good film. That's all. And don't give me that shit about the source material being weak and kiddie. It's absolutely NO DIFFERENT than the comic book movies being made now. The source material is actually a bunch of stupidly written kiddie shit from the "funny books". But, guess what? It was eventually taken more seriously and the source material used for some amazing comic books and films when in the right hands. So, TF *can* be amazingly good. It just needs to be rebooted and taken away from Bay and his retarded team who have no idea what to do with this property (they're like Warner with the DC characters - no fucking clue). I swear Hollywood is fucked right the fuck up. We get an unnecessary reboot of Spidey, but they're gonna keep going on Bayformers even though it sucks? We WANT a reboot, dammit. Oh the irony.

Bay did not even attempt to make you relate to any of the transformers. In the 80's cartoon as in most of the cartoons the transformers had distinct personalties and especially in the G1 (generation one a.k.a the 1st cartoon series) The Transformers were the focus of the show there may have 3-4 regular humans in the series how ever most of the lines were that of the transformers themselves, and even though it was a "30 minute toy commercial" There were enough characters where you could definately find a transformer to relate too.

space battle ships with humans and big wave motion guns. Imagine all the fun Bay could have with that. Easy three movies.

  • You'd think the producers would just hire any visual stylist with a nose for action instead of paying Bay his no doubt astronomical cut. Maybe they're scared now that Battleship bombed? If that's the case, then Hasbro & co are morons who don't really understand the properties. Battleship may have been around longer than Transformers, but it was just a dumbass boardgame. It had no story. It didn't capture the imagination. It was just gameplay. Meanwhile, Transformers had a mythology, cast of characters and cool concept that hooked an entire generation of kids. That's why it was huge while Battleship was doomed to fail. That's also why GI Joe could be a cheap looking shit movie and still make 150 mil domestic.

I've never been a great fan of the TF's and these films are definitely stopping me from ever becoming one. The last one was an incoherent mess and I'm not fond of la buffs impressions of a humorless Woody Allen on speed. The franchise so far has been (quite frankly) bollocks.

  • Bay has made hundreds of millions from the 3 films, as he has an awesome deal where he gets 10% of all ancillary revenues from every Transformers movie, including merchandise sales, so I don't blame him for wanting to do a final 4th one, but he probably should've stepped aside for this. He has got a low budget (for him) $25 million film Pain and Gain, with Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne Johnson, that's finished filming and is coming out next year.

  • June 6, 2012, 7:47 p.m. CST

Fuck yeah, kremzeek and photoboy are telling it like it is!!!

    by Han Cholo

If any other filmmakers get the honor of being handed this franchise, do the world a favor and tell an awesome story of millions of years of war with a robotic alien race. The first scenes should be that of all out battle and loss to make you care for the characters. And the story should be about the Robots and their doomed exodus to Earth and the implications it would have on our already war-mongering society. Maybe have the story be about how the good and the corrupt come together in times of strife and how good will always overcome evil - a story that lets people leave the theater inspired and awed and ready to watch it over and over again. This is a lesson on how to do timeless bitches.
Then along with the awesome story, you focus on re-designing the characters into the familiar ones we all recognize from the many iterations of Transformers cartoons that are in existence.
Optimus Prime, Starscream, and all the other bots should be instantly recognizable and possess their requisite personalities. Obviously, artistic license is encouraged but not to the point where designs are muddled and totally unrecognizable. They don't have to be too boxy or even the original G-1 designs, however, they should be closer to G-1 to make them more recognizable but more modern designs. Use newer models of the same vehicles or use ones that are similar if you can't secure the rights. Also, putting in too many characters kills the drama. Character development and story is ALWAYS top priority.
If people who matter are reading this, I GUARANTEE better overall sales if not the same. And you didn't even have to pay me.

    1. Scripts that weren't fucking blatantly insulting, thrown together and full of juvenile humor like pissing robots. 2. Actors who can act and gave a fuck. 3. Design and effects that were decipherable to the human eye...or rather the ADULT human eye. But what do any of us know...these horrid films made everyone connected to them millions of dollars...spoiled, ignorant, poorly read and entitled Kids, or someone with an IQ lower than a Manatee loved the shit out of these things. Just think about this...Megan Fox, perhaps the worst "Actress" ever plucked from the soiled mattress of a double wider...made more money by simply bending her ass over the hood of a car than most of us will see in 10 lifetimes...Shia, who screams his lines...made even more. There is no justice in this world...I know that know...and I have Michael Bays Transformers to thank for that hard fucking lesson.

  • Your post makes me sad. You are missing out on some really incredible lore (and anyone who thinks TF is just a bunch of transforming toys - do some research: there's been an extremely rich backstory for decades now). It makes me sad that Bay is going to stop you from looking into more TF. IGNORE his Transformers. They are NOT the real TFs. They're a bunch of metal parts strung together incoherently with an even more incoherent plot to guide them. It is not representative of the best TF productions. Let me put it to you this way: Thinking Bayformers is as good as the Transformers can get would be like watching Star Trek V: The Final Frontier and thinking that was the best of Star Trek. Don't let Bay turn you off to TF!

Um no. I saw TF2 on Netflix (a friend PROMISED me it was good - he can never recommend movies to me again). Never saw TF3. And I won't. Nice try though.

The only justification is the side effects...

like more cartoons, more toys, g1 t-shirts at Hot Topic, that hardcover retrospective book... It's people like Schumacher and Bay who make me think "ok, the movie's gonna suck so I won't bother but look at all the swag we're going to get from it! Of course I'd prefer a decent movie but what we're getting from a shitty one is at least something."

    Everyone gives a shit..

    by MatchesMalone

The people who give a shit are the same people worldwide that have been watching these movie since the first one came out, it matters very little if 100 or even 1000 people go to an internet site and bitch about it when the rest of the world is out there in droves watching it. Its not fucking Shakespeare guys, its robots beating each other up, its been robots beating each other up since the 80's ok just calm down and stop trying to make Ghandi out of it..
