John Ary here with a conversation between Dax Shepard, Kristen Bell and myself.
The couple held a public screening for their new independent feature in Austin on Sunday. Hit & Run is a passion project for Shepard as he wrote, co-directed, produced, performed the stunt work and starred in the film. He plays a man hiding in the witness protection program from his old bank robbing crew lead by Bradley Cooper. When the gang catches wind that Shepard is taking his girlfriend (Kristen Bell) into Los Angeles for a job interview, the action kicks in. Although Shepard and Bell head up a strong cast including Michael Rosenbaum, Kristin Chenoweth, Beau Bridges, and Tom Arnold, the true stars of the movie are the car chase sequences that have been resurrected from the 70's and 80's. Hal Needham would be proud.
After the screening, I caught up with the pair in an office above the theater to talk about cars, the awkwardness of telling a friend they can't be on the movie poster and how to avoid clichés in film.
