BLACK PANTHER is in Marvel's Movie Pipeline...
...so says El Mayimbe at Latino Review.
"Monty Cristo" here again.
They left some breadcrumb hints toward this in the pinpointing of Wakanda (Black Panther's homeland) in IRON MAN 2, and it would connect to the use of Vibranium (Wakanda's big export) in Cap's shield, as well as the move toward the "cosmic" Marvel universe, since the Vibranium is mined from a meteor that fell from the sky. Moreover, they've layered T'Challa into the AVENGERS: EARTH'S MIGHTIEST HEROES cartooon as well as the Lionsgate direct-to-DVD animated films (ULTIMATE AVENGERS 2).
El Mayimbe seems to think that Nate Parker (from RED TAILS) is the perfect pick to play T'Challa, King of Wakanda and Black Panther, but I disagree.
When I met ATTACK THE BLOCK's John Boyega last year, along with director Joe Cornish, I told him right then and there that he had better be ready to go after the role of T'Challa when (not if) Marvel did a movie. Based on a very wide grin, he seemed very familiar with the part.
Come to think of it, ATTACK THE BLOCK director Joe Cornish is co-writing ANT MAN for Marvel. If he's into directing BLACK PANTHER for them, they'd be fools to not pay him a princely sum to do so. ANT MAN won't start immediately no matter what if Edgar Wright is busy with the third installment of the Cornetto Trilogy.
What say you, readers? I'm a huge fan of the Priest/Texeira Marvel Knights run of PANTHER in the comics, among other takes on the character. I can't wait for this one to get rolling.

But am I happy...
-
This could be a good one.
-
If you added him later on like Hawkeye and Black Widow then ok... but there are more important characters to get on first. I'd rather see Hank Pym and Vision as top priorities.
-
And he'd be great
-
He more than warrants his own movie. Luke Cage and Iron Fist can share a flick to be honest. But the last time we actually got a black superhero flick that wasn't just created a la Hancock but based within an established label was Blade.
-
he was gonna be Dolemite, let him be Black Panther instead, lol

I don't know much about him but sounds like a difficult adaptation...................................
by crackerfarmboy
What are his "powers"? Does he have a compelling storyline? This is a very niche character from what I can gather so this will be difficult to translate. However Marvel did just that with Thor and they haven't missed with the MCU yet; so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt here. I'm glad to see someone new and Ant-Man just doesn't do it for me.
-
Though is he too old. Should the black panther be young like thor
-
Really?
-
Man Ape? They should hire David Mamet to write and direct this, set it in Chicago, with Chiwetel Ejiofor as Black Panther.

It was fun while it lasted.

Combine that with the full face mask that no-one will want to wear, plus the fact that he's just a low-grade Batman clone... let's be honest...Marvel have filmed the big hitters. Look at their comics roster, the major sellers are spidey, the x-series, avengers and the component titles from there... after that who? I'd like to say Doc Strange but he's too po-faced. Same goes for the Silver Surfer. Shang-chi or Iron Fist? Nah...just another martial arts movie. Luke Cage? YAWN! There is no-one else really. Same goes for poor old DC. Superman and Batman are the only ones people are interested in. Let's have a break from comics eh?

Lation Review also likes to call minorities the "urban audience"
by D.Vader
Instead of just saying black or latino, the story says Marvel is courting the "urban" audience. Black Panther isn't urban. He comes from the fucking jungle. His name isn't Urban Panther.
-
It'd be kind of racist to just get a black guy
-
Or in the marvel universe. Only New York
-
Perfect casting. I don't care how old he is. And his arch-nemesis was The Claw, that guy that could turn sound into solid matter. At least according to the F4 cartoon.
-
Some superheros don't warrant their own movie. Kind if like that Phantom movie with Billy Zane. Same reason Hawkeye doesn't have his own movie. Would rather see Luke Cage.

by FatPaul
If they make this movie without MJW, I'm not interested.
-
At the beginning, T'Challa is quite young, and not yet king of Wakanda, his father T'Chaka is. I doubt they're going to cast someone in the age profile of Elba, Michael Jai White, Djimon Hounsou, or Chiwetel Ejiofor in the role, and not just because of age. They're all too well-established, and on the business side, Marvel does not want someone who costs that much. They want an equivalent to Chris Pine in STAR TREK 09, a young guy they can make a household name/face that won't resist signing a 10-film commitment or something similar.

"Red Tails" bombed.
-
Iron Man needs some fucking help up there.
-
I'm a HUGE supporter of the Marvel film universe and want more, but Black Panther needs to be introduced as a secondary character in another movie OR Marvel Studios needs to do "One Shots" for the theaters BEFORE each Marvel movie to introduce these characters so they can get into upcoming Avengers films. Ala "Pixar Shorts", 10-15 minute shorts. Good writing, good upcoming directors... asses are already in the seats and this works. THIS is how they need to intro Dr. Strange, Black Panther, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Ms. Marvel... etc... etc... It would be solid.
-
I think Marvel is maturing nicely. Iron man 2 was a wake up call that I think they took very seriously. animated Ultimate Avengers 2, while lackluster, had an interesting mix up sci-fi and African lore that could work well in a movie.
-
Marvel studio needs a hero that can work the shadow. Black Panther fills this role: FACT!
-
I can't believe I didn't throw his name in the original post. BRILLIANT action choreographer.
-
theres at least 20 other marvel heroes that need a movie before black panther. id rather see a iron fist and luke cage movie

-
You know, the BLACK superhero that kicked off this massive fucking wave of superhero films we've been riding ever since?
-
But I think the smart move would've been to have him be introduced in a Captain America sequel and then give him his own movie.
-
People will go see a good black superhero movie. Red Tails bombed because they tried too hard to modernize it with the dialogue. You put good people behind Black Panther and come up with a good movie and people will go see it. Drop he ball and come up with a shitty movie and no one will care.

Joss' Avengers was pretty much the first Ultimate Avengers film, including using the Chitari! Black Panther can be any age, as it's handed down from the King of Whatever to his son on his death. Come on, you doubters, Black Panther was the first black superhero, period. I think he's a great character and deserves his own movie, because he has a rich, and much better than a-barrel-of-radioactive-waste-fell-on-his-head, origin story here. It'd be swell to start the story with the meteor and proceed with Chiwetel Ejiofor as King T'Chaka for a touching father and son mentor/pass-the-torch kinda first act taking place in big beautiful Africa. (But, of course, they'll eventually have him visit NYC for the obligatory exploding taxi cab and skyscraper destruction porn.)

Could picture him as Namor though. I'd love to see a Hawkeye/Black Widow movie before Black Panther. Or Cap & the Falcon. Or Heroes for Hire. Or Ant man. A Blade reboot maybe. Or Daredevil.... I would slap you were we in person. Your distain for Ant-Man is based clearly on his not so "bad ass" name. The ideas that Henry Pym's science brings to the table are completely amazing. Allow me to help your tiny brain embrace it. Imagine playing a first person style video game, now imagine running about in said game and in real time by holding down the trigger or some such thing, your character becoming the size of a building in a matter of seconds, or holding the other trigger down and shrinking to the size of an insect, or smaller, perhaps so small that you cross into another dimension completely and you find yourself in the Microverse, which you probably have never heard of because you are a false marvel fanboy.

Introduced in FF back in the late 60's, or early 70's. Snipes would have been perfect, but by the time he's out of prison...too old and too much baggage. Look at some of the comments on the talkback and you'll see the resistance some white audiences will have to the concept, so they'd better really bring it. The Reggie Hudlin run was terrific fun (especially kicking a young Captain America's ass. But then...so did Batman). T'Challa has hugely advanced strength, speed, and agility, and Wakanda is the most technically advanced nation on Earth, but chooses not to interact with the outside world. There are tons of terrific stories that could be told blending Black Panther with the Marvel Universe.

The comments in this talkback is the exact reason why a Black Panther movie should be made
by rosetta the stoned
Dudes, some of you are still ignorant and still want to play racial politics. If a movie like Blade showed anything, it was that a Black superhero can defy stereotype and still have broad based appeal. Sadly, it seems some of you did not get the memo or just plain forgot. BP does not need to be a tentpole feature nor does it need to try and 'heal' the racial divide. All it needs to be is a damn entertaining movie that all races can equally enjoy and that will do far more to erase stereotypes than any 'message' that may or may not be present will do. Maybe it will even have a more lasting impact than Blade had because BP is a mainline Marvel character, but I tend to doubt it. Still, why do some of you begrudge a BP movie and yet no similar cries of anguish before ghost rider -although certainly after, and Elektra? Get over yourselves and take a hit on this here dragon while i ejicate ya

Or "Mr. Eko", if you will, was attached to this at one time, wasn't he? Heard he's hard to work with, but he would be a nice choice. I dunno. I always liked the character, his costume, his nobility, etc, but I've having a hard time seeing how this could succeed. As someone already stated, he's kind of just an African Batman (though I guess they actually have one of those now at DC), and he really has almost no 'rogues gallery'. If he doesn't stay in costume for long, I'm not interested. Because that was seriously one awesome looking outfit.

by Somewhat Sarcastic
I would love to see geopolitical divides brought into the Marvel Cinematic Universe - hopefully Marvel can wrestle the rights back to Fantastic Four from Fox and bring in Namor and Doom to display the hard choices T'Challa has to make as a head of state. I'd also like to see how Wakanda Design Group competes with Stark Industries. Why not see Cap in Africa during the 40's meeting T'Chaka? chuck_chuckwalla and monty - I would probably piss myself in delight if we opened up with Everett K Ross driving to pick up T'Challa and his entourage in his Miata while singing Jungle Boogie. Ross is a must for any BP movie. He's our window into the Panther. Fox would have been fantastic as Ross, but I think with his Parkinson's he's out. Matthew Perry would be good, but I think he's too old for the role. Jeremy Piven? As for a suggestion for the role, Daniel Feinberg suggested Michael B. Jordan (Parenthood, Friday Night Lights) - if we're going young with T'Challa, he might be good.

A few years ago people put Iron Man as a Marvel B-lister
by Chuck_Chuckwalla
And now he's a top level Marvel character. Hell, he's probably close to a Spider-man level of popularity now. All it takes is a good script and director with a good budget to make a great film and second, third or fourth tier heroes can become A-listers. My pick for BP director: Antoine Fuqua.
-
June 5, 2012, 9:31 p.m. CST
Also, I never quite "got" Priest's run. It just never clicked with me. I'm much more of a fan of his [BP's] older Fantastic Four appearances.
by cookepuss
Priest's run just felt a little too heavy handed for me. Opinions. Whatcha gonna do, right? Don't quite know who would make a good BP either. I could joke and scream JALEEL WHITE, but I don't have shit. =) Better that they just pick an unknown lead and a really standout supporting cast like they did with Thor.
-
Marvel shot themselves in the foot with Idris Elba because he would be an awesome Black Panther. But while we're throwing out potentials, how about Donald Glover (aka Troy from Community, hip hop artist Childish Gambino). He's built, but not bulky, and he's young. I like the Avengers as much as you guys, but if you think this run on Marvel movies is indicative of inherent superiority... well, I'll refer you to pre-Blade times, when Marvel Movies were made only for the purposes of maintaining rights and always so awful that they buried them in vaults so they'd never be seen again. Marvel has their own studio and they are running it VERY well right now. DC does not have their own studio, and pretty much have to sit by and let the CW handle their properties and let Green Lantern get made. DC's biggest problem is the lack of influence of people who see anything but dollar signs in a comic book character.
-
...that's exactly what I came on here to say. There's no more perfect source material for them to mine. Everett K. Ross is the perfect "entry level" character to follow around (and might shut up some white viewers who might be wary of a black superhero lead. They could even focus the trailers and TV spots around him if they were that worried about only appealing to an "urban" audience. Build up T'Challa as a savvy badass at the same time, calculating but inscrutable through the eyes of this new, bewildered character (who would also provide the comic relief to Panther's intensity). Priest covered both Wakanda and New York, so a viewer could potentially get the best of both worlds, so to speak, the grandeur of Wakanda and the street-level, relatably American reality of the Big City. The Dora Miaje could be included as someone else for T'Challa to bounce off of, pad action sequences, and provide some Black Widow-style mild titillation. Obviously the whole Blackheart thing, as funny as it was in the comics, would probably have to go, but there's plenty in that run of fifty or so comics, both character and plot, that would make for a really excellent movie in the right hands (which is always the rub, isn't it?).

Would be my pick for panther's father or maybe his rival.

Here we go again: *Waaaah, not well known enough to warrant a movie*
by DidntPullOutInTimeCop
EVERY Marvel studio movie has gotten this comment (well, maybe not IH). When did movie fans start thinking like producers? With this thinking there could never be any movies based on an original idea. NOTHING NEW, cause it wasn't well known in a comic book or book before...

*Panther kicks cap's ass. Just like in real life where the black guy beats up the white guy* I don't know if you are white or black, but you obviously believe that sterotype. I'm not racist, but I have beat the crap out of black guys and white guys alike.
-
I will believe it when I see it. I don't think there will be a Wonder Woman, Black Panther, or any other minority or female superhero, stand-alone, because I think the studio folks will assume that the core audience is too racist/sexist for them to make their money back.
-
I don't know much about the black panther, but copy the hamlet/lion king set up. Someone like Djimon Hounsou as his father, and Chewitel as an uncle. Uncle engineer's father's death and finds a way to pin it on T'Challa. T'Challa, being aged about 5-10, takes off with his bodyguard/mentor and travels the world ala Bruce Wayne. Ends up in the states, gets educated there, and is working for Stark, aged about 20-25, when his bodyguard/mentor type tells him of his heritage, and how, as he is coming to the right age, he will gain the powers of the black panther, abilities which pass along the royal bloodline ect (so he can have proper fight with his uncle, who will also have the powers, and is, of course, ruling Wakanda as a dictator.). he decides to go home, prove his innocence, and reclaim the throne. which he does, of course. Sling a few quid for Tony Stark and Nick Fury cameos. You can then cast someone like the kid from Chronicle and not have to worry about him trying to put on an african accent without him sounding like a clown, cos he will have lived in the US for 10-15 years. (I'm keeping Michael K Willimas for the inevitable wesley-less blade reboot. I can see Blade walking into a vampire nest whistling and soime vampires running away shouting "Blade coming"

"I think it just goes to show that Marvel heroes are so much more film translatable b/c they are so much more relatable than DC characters." I know right, coming at us with their Magically Equipped Gliding Amazon Warriors, Strategically Undefeatable Urban Ninja Detectives and Nigh-Omnipotent Alien Guardians is so totally redonk. I see that crazy shit and I immediately walk across the street to Marvel to get my good old fashioned stories, the way they used to be made, about common normal decent folks like Unfrozen Patriot Super-Soldier, Giant Radioactive Id-Creature, Otherdimensional Shakespearean Techno-deity, Egotistical Super-Intelligent Transhumanist Playboy Philanthropist Robot Suit Man, Sexy Russian Formerly Evil Assassin, and of course, let's not forget Agent Coulson. The secret agent for a globetrotting intelligence agency who serves as a nice realistic character for us to focus on as a relatable anchor.

That no one cares about people said the EXACT same thing about Ironman, then Thor, then Cap. And Those movies turned out pretty well. very short attention spans her on the web.
-
I belive PB should be introduced as a support character in Cap 2, just to give him the get go for Avengers 2. A whole movie about him would be hazardous for the marvel studio flawless franchise (yes, i loved IM2). The same could be said for Iron Fist, Power Man or Ant Man. On the other hand Dr.Strange could be a winner, it would take a sidestep from the regular MSMU (Marvel Studio Movie Universe), givin'a breather to the continuity and the main non-comic-fan audience, and it would give the chance to introduce the concept of 'magic' in the MSMU, enche offering an extra edge to the heroes in the upcoming Thanos bashing. My 2 cents.
-
I wouldn't mind some comedy in this! Just not goofy, stupid comedy like in the Green Lantern or that steaming pile The Green Hornet.

Didn't that rave scene put an end to that.

Casting too young would make him look ridiculous in future Avengers movies, when everyone else is already in their thirties and fourties...
by Stegman84
Nobody wants a 'kid' Black Panther. Not only won't it work on screen, long term it just won't fit if they want to stay true to the character on screen. It's bad enough that we have a Cap that has no real presence whatsoever, and a Fury that is just Sam Jackson acting like Sam Jackson in an eye patch, let's try and get someone for T'Challa that actually has the presence that is required of the role. I mean, sure, yoiu can hire a younger actor for origin or flashback scenes, but you can't have a teen/early 20's Black Panther, not and fit in with everything else already established in their Marvel filmic universe. And there are plenty of great, lower tier (i.e. cheap enough to make Marvel happy) actors to choose from. Personally I'd go with Adawale Agbaje Akkinuoye or Idris Elba (despite his other marvel movie appearances), but Michael k Williams, Chiwetel Ejiofer, Djimon Hounsou, Aldis Hodge, Hell, there's plenty of known, and I'm sure unknown, guys out there that could do the role justice.

especially after Redbelt, with Elba and Boyega rounding out things, amongst other actors. But time is getting on... Black Panther has the chance to be utterly badass, but rich and layered with Wakandas civilization, they better realise they have something like a Batman Begins- Dark Knight potential here, or at the very least their next Iron Man.
-
@rosetta_the_stoned Let's be honest. Black audiences have never had a problem watching "white" movies, we've done it all of our lives. It's only certain whites who seem to have a problem if every story in the world doesn't revolve around them.

I think a Black Panther movie, no matter how much action and story, will bomb being that it may be too cerebral for movie-goers....
by Joe
Remember back in the 90's and we saw "The Phantom" I thought it was pretty cool, but so terribly cheesy. Black Panther is one of those 'maybe' titles IMO. Up there with "Green Hornet", "Bone", X-O Man o War", etc. If you weren't a huge comic fan you didn't know about these characters. Black Panther is only 'recently' in the new cartoons. I don't recall him having his own book or hardly being in any of the tv shows back in the 80's. I DO actually hope this would get made into a movie, I think it would be a great story. I just don't see audiences clamoring for this or willing to see it... like "Ant-Man". I'm getting tired of seeing you guys talk about it like it's the most anticipated movie of all time. Anyhoo, just my .02 republic credits. -Rex

Oh yeah, what fool would rather see a Luke Cage Movie before BP?
by Stalkeye
Cage was just a pardoy of the blaxploitation era during the Seventies. Hence the Jive talking, silly outfit and not to mention a brotha that escaped from Prison because he was framed by "The Man". Pass Panther's concept has much more to offer than Luke Cage. From the advanced city of wakanda to unraveling conspiracies that involve certain "nations" trying to overthrow Wakanda and Tchalla's regime in order to obtain their most precious asset: Vibranium. Besides, Panther can do so much on screen as opposed to some big guy smashing walls and shit.

Black Panther is a really cool character. Take some time to get to know the character and you will see how many great stories and ideas lurk within T'challa's realm. Sorry, but I'll disagree with you there. He's too old as well, and doesn't fit the parameters you described. HOWEVER, he would be perfect to choreograph the fight scenes in the film. My vote goes to Sebastian Foucan. If you guys don't know who he is, he was the parkour guy James Bond had to chase at that construction site near the beginning of Casino Royale. He also did a film called The Tournament with Ving Rhames. He's young, I think, and has the perfect physicality to play T-Challa. He's already a parkour practictioner, perfect for the moves the Panther should be able to pull off without a lot of special effects.

... In my opinion the native scientists being more advanced than outsiders makes no sense, and would come off as unrealistic… But I love the character, love the story, would look forward to it far more than ant man, even if directed by Wright.... Although, I am desperate for Ultron, so antman needs to happen more than the black panther does....
-
I've always thought this could be a really cool movie, and completely different than every other superhero. Just the rich, lush environment combined with cool technology, T'Challa defending his Kingdom from the influence of outsiders, eventually realizing that's impossible, etc. Every other superhero film we've seen is about American superheroes fighting bad guys in cities. This would be a really nice change of pace and expand on what the idea of a hero is.
-
@ohgawduhhh Dame your right Aldis Hodge would be great. He has the youth, he can pull off the accent but on the other hand Michael K. Williams would be great as well. So I would take either.

Black Panther would not do badly because he's a black superhero. Black Panther would do badly because he's a shitty 2 dimensional character who has had like 3 interesting stories in the fucking history of ever. I am now going to list the black marvel characters that should have a movie before Black Panther. Monica Rambeau, Misty Knight and Luke Cage. Yes, it is a short list. Why? Because there are very very very very few black superheroes at Marvel. And no it's not because of racism. It's because melanin reflects gamma rays. You fools!

Please no magic man in Dr. Strange and no wife beater in Hank Pym
by parissun
I'd rather see Black Panther, Luke Cage, Ms Marvel and even Speedball before those two turds. I don't want magic introduced into the Marvel Universe of films. And wife beater Hank Pym doesn't deserve a movie. I go to see Superhero films to have fun, not see some guy slapping his wife around and swigging vodka. I think Marvel has it's tent pole movies (Cap, Thor, Iron Man, Avengers). Best to introduce these B-list characters in Cap 2, Iron 3 and Avengers 2. You people must have forgotten floaters like Daredevil, Electra, Punisher(s) and Ghost Rider.

Michael Jai White is my favorite when it comes to kicking ass
by professor murder
But I think he's too old to play the Panther. With how he's showing up in many roles lately, I wouldn't be surprised to see them put Anthony Mackie in the weight room and then sign him into the role. Which I wouldn't mind at all. Panther and Strange (Billy Campbell) are the next Avengers I want to see introduced into the film universe. NOT Antman or Wasp.
-
Yes, he kicked so much ass in Blood & Bone. That was some great fighting action. He's so quick for his size. Blood & Bone is on Netflix streaming so nobody out there has an excuse to not see it, ha!
-
I meant only for choreographer, not T'Challa.
-
I doubt there's another Moises Chiullan out there who did Marketing consulting for Avenger Controller. :)
-
I can see it now... T'Chaka is played by Randy Watson, who sends T'Challa on a mission to sell Vibranium so he can buy more Soul Glo. No.. seriously, this one needs to be left, there isn't enough there for a whole movie unless they are going to use a shitload of flashback, which doesn't really fit into the Universe well. Leave him as a cameo on the vid screen in Iron Man 3 for now. Focus on Iron Fist/Luke Cage and Namor. Far more interesting characters.
-
Idris won't have time, he'll have won the best actor Oscar for the mandela bio. Diggs is the man for the job.
-
remember son, black don't crack.
-
Idris Elba is in Thor, and Thor 2, so this wouldn't make sense. That would be like the Fantastic Four showing up in the Avengers 2 and having Chris Evans playing Torch and Cap. Since Thor will continue to be a part of this Marvel filmworld, it wouldn't work. Fantastic Four is done. Those stories will not continue. That's why Chris was OK to play someone else in the Marvel world.
-
You're probably just nice and secure with your bevy of white superheroes running the show since the 60's while minorities have to sit back and accept thrown bones like turning nick fury black. Deal with it - there's more to this life than you and your bullshit superiority complexes.

This will do VERY well if it's a great movie. I'm interested in seeing this made almost as much as I want to see Guardians of The Galaxy get made.

I think the character is strong enough for a stand-alone. For God's sake, they made several profitable Blade movies, and that character is barely third-tier, if that, in the Marvel Universe. Black Panther is a strong character with a good background/origin story. Someone mentioned Dwayne Johnson for casting. What? I know the guy has African blood, but he is mixed race and does not look African in the least. Johnson could play Black Adam in a DC SHAZAM! flick, but is laughable as Black Panther. Idris Elba, the guy from Serenity, etc, there are many actors to choose from. As far as making money, I think all Marvel has to do is throw in some cameos from established Marvel film characters to let the General Audience know that they are dealing with another Marvel film. Fans will go see a Black Panther film, General Audeinces will check it out when they see a Nick Fury/SHIELD or Tony Stark/Iron Man cameo. Also, I see no problem with a reasonably budgeted Ant-Man film. It could be used to establish Hank Pym as SHIELD's in-house tech-genius, designer of the Heli-carrier, and pro-logue to both Ultron and The Vision. I would like to see Ms. Marvel in the mix somewhere, just because I think it would be cool to see Charlize Theron as an ass-kicking superhero. Maybe Nathan Fillion as Simon Williams/Wonder Man? Also, I think a Heroes for Hire/Luke Cage and Iron Fist movie could work at a modest budget. Maybe a cameo with Captain America and the Falcon, fighting street-crime in Manhattan? Cap is a first-tier Avenger, but in his own comic he is often fighting street-crime, when not battling cosmic enemies and secret super-nazi threats to America.
-
in the new animated Avengers. I think it was episode 11 or 12. I still have not caught up with it completely, but I've been enjoying it. The Skrulls plot was a bit thin for my liking, and really didn't live up to the kind of story/action I was expecting. But what can you really expect from what is essentially aimed at kids.... but not in the most respectful way. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the show is bad, or is completely disrespectful of kids, I just think that many of these shows aim a little TOO low and underestimate what kids can comprehend. MANY shows do it a LOT worse than Avengers (Earth's Mightiest Heroes? is that the subtitle?). And it's actually a really good animated show. To get an idea of what I consider a great animated show aimed somewhat at a family audience... I would name the Batman series voiced by Conroy and Batman Beyond to be 2 of my all-time favorites, at least in the superhero genre. But the newer Marvel stuff is really promising. But back on topic. I think that in spite of Black Panther maybe looking a little too much like Batman from certain angles, he's a compelling character with a great back story. I'd love to see them actually tackle the Black Panther vs The Klan unfinished arc. That would be a great story AND even slightly controversial. Or maybe as a nod to the comics they could start the movie with the end of that story arc... moving on after he finishes off the KKK. I wonder how Aaron Mcgruder would feel about scripting it?? He could bring some serious humor to the film (but not so much the character, who should remain as serious-minded as he was in the comics), in a non-cringe-worthy way. I don't care that I disagree with him politically from time to time, the fact remains he's one of the most talented writers out there. And I would love to see him get a chance at this character. And no matter what anyone says, I think he NAILED the Red Tails screenplay. The tone was perfect in the way it conveyed a comics-like tone to the serious story, making it feel a little like the old time serials as well. The dialogue was crisp, accessible in a modern way without betraying the language of the time period, overall a really fun script. Even so, his screenwriting talents should not be judged solely by that one screenplay. You have to look at his TV and comic strip work too. And that stuff is just hilarious satire, pure comedy and social commentary at its finest. I NEED to see Panther take the *herb* that connects him to the Panther god. I'd love for them to portray it almost like an Ayahuasca experience. (essentially DMT with some other active compounds) I mean... come on!! How cool could this movie be? Might even end up being one of the best comic movies of all time if they really make it for adults..... with a few limits. And I agree.... with some people here... on a certain level... that *darker* does not always equal better. But in this case, a nice, adult, dark ( but with some humor ) Black Panther film could be AMAZE(balls). We all know how seriously *bowels of hell* parts of Africa have been for a long time now, and with the media paying more attention than they have before (from time to time), we all know now of the horrors that happen over there. To have a hero that not only fits in with the larger Avengers superhero saga, but also fights the horrors of tribal, religious hate wars, with some self-identified Christian churches burning children as witches in some places.. you have the makings of a serious dramatic movie with traditional superhero heroics in there as well. I wouldn't want to see the whole film set in Africa. I'd want to see him connect to America for a good chunk of the story, eventually connecting with the Avengers. I've said too much.... time for someone else to give their opinion. What do you guys think? Do I have too much faith in this project? Or do you think they could pull off a great film?
