Guy Ritchie Is Sailing To TREASURE ISLAND!!
The Kidd here...
So it's like SHERLOCK HOLMES but with pirates...?
A fair question to ask now that director Guy Ritchie is taking his visual style to adapt the classic Robert Louis Stevenson novel Treasure Island for Warner Bros. According to Deadline, Alex Harakis will be penning the script, with no real timetable on how quickly they're looking to get the project set firm.
A stylized version of the book that can appeal to modern audiences sounds like a good fit for Ritchie, but just making it look cool can't be enough. There are many reasons Treasure Island has remained relevant since it was first published in 1883. Let's hope the adapted story captures them.

I think this site should change its name to 'No Shit News'. Because about 50% of the time I read a headline my mental response is 'No shit'...because I've already read it a day or two ago on JoBlo or /Film or Collider.

I want Ritchie to finish the Trilogy.

I could say I was showing an age-old literary technique to illustrate the issue... but that would make me both a liar, as well as dealing with my own illiteracy.

Fucking love that movie ... hell, I love all Ritchie movies ... except for the piece of shit that was the Madonna (I wanna get laid so I'll do this movie of her) ... flick. Lock Stock, RocknRolla, and Snatch are some of the best movies ever. Seriously. And he's done a terrific job with the Sherlock Holmes flicks ... thoroughly enjoyable and fun.
June 4, 2012, 9:29 a.m. CST
He`s done some good, some ok and some Dire Movies. I do NOT want a RockNRolla sequel. It was Snatch Lite.

If you had to pick one quintessential pirate story, Treasure Island would come out on top. It has (and probably largely created) the classic pirate tropes, such as a peg-legged captain with a parrot on his shoulder, and a treasure map to buried gold. It has one of literature's greatest complex character in Long John Silver, who comes across at times as both a hero and villain. He's been played by Robert Newton, Orson Welles and Charlton Heston, among many others.

No, it is because they have name recognition and most importantly, they are in public domain.

Yeah I really can't think of something I'm LESS interested in. Ok, a Fantastic Voyage inside Rosie O'Donell's pussy.

an animated retelling of Treasure Island ... in space. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0133240/
June 4, 2012, 10:48 a.m. CST
i think its what the pirate genre needs though, after pirates 3, there needs to be another product giving it a real pirate feel and spin and if he does it gritty itll be sweet

I love this book! Terrific adventure story and still awaiting its definitive screen version. I'm a Ritchie fan as well but this is for sure a tale in need of way more than simple visual flair. If we could have back the guy who wrote Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels this could actually be it
June 4, 2012, 10:58 a.m. CST
Boring and overlong. I actually didn't make it to the end. Now he can do the same to Treasure Island.
June 4, 2012, 11:03 a.m. CST
...to pose lots of awesome-sounding moral questions about piracy only to end on a cliffhanger without answering any of them, begging a sequel that will promise to answer some of those awesome-sounding questions but won't while posing even more awesome-sounding questions without answers! 'Treasure Island 2: Plank, Wank and 2 Scurvy Pirates'

He's one of the worst 'directors' on the planet. His 'filmography' is 100% utter shit.

There's just something so perfect about it that none of the remakes so far has captured. Yes, the sets are a little obvious, but the charisma of the two leading actors is so remarkable and rich that the movie is enjoyable from end to end.

This "cockerney geezur" clearly has suhin against the Scots, what with first Sherlock and now this. Fuck off. Treasure island call out for classic retelling not some gunho fucking musket on pegleg pirate of the caribean pish wannabees.
Come on this guy and this property simple don't mix. Leave it along posh boy and choose some English literature to shit on.

What the fuck does that mean? What because it has pirates it's not relevant? So what you want a Twitter movie? A movie about Bieber's rise to fame?(I think that already came out but whatever). I'd take a gritty pirate movie over anything relevant from this pop culture society right now. What they should do is make Michael Crichton's Pirate Latitudes. That would be sweet.

Never seen Swept Away, nor do I ever plan to. But I thought Revolver and RocknRolla were both entertaining. But between this and Sherlock I think its safe to say he sold out. His career will go the way of the Burton.

Let's face it, she has a twelve inch clitoris since she started rocking the roids. She's perfect for the role. Wait....oh.....sorry.......wrong movie. Still, if she just stops shaving for a few days, she (he?) can pull it off. The age is dead on.

Seems like a good fit for material to director for me if its being updated. I can't imagine it being a straight retelling-more of a make over for modern audiences.
I'm in anyway. I think it has great potential.

Long John Silver is one of the greatest bad guys in all of literature, not just a fucking asshole but a *smart* fucking asshole, definitely an ancestor of the Joker and young Jim Hawkins is one of the greatest heroes, he could kick Harry Potter's ass any day of the week
