Guess Who's Coming Back For KICK-ASS 2...
The Kidd here...
If you were wondering whether or not any of the cast from the first KICK-ASS film wouldn't return or would be left behind for the sequel, don't... as it appears everyone is coming back for another go-'round.
According to Deadline, Chloe Moretz, Aaron Johnson and Christopher Mintz-Plasse are all close to inking their deals to reprise their roles as Hit Girl, Kick-Ass and Red Mist, and Nicolas Cage may also be set up for a cameo to some degree as Big Daddy, which, if you recall his fate in the first film, isn't the easiest thing to pull off.
No one's being recast for the follow-up being directed by Jeff Wadlow, so it looks like good news for fans of KICK-ASS today.

Flashback/memory/dream sequence/hallucination/viewing of a training video he made for hit girl ...an AICN reader in his underwear came up with those instantly. I'm sure the well paid hollywood screen writers will be able to think of something there Billy.
-
The first one wasn't exactly a big hit as I remember. Though it should have been!
-
Guess I'll have to read the second Kick Ass series

empire reviewed kick ass 2 comic book in its latest issue.
by emeraldboy
and hit girl doesnt really feature in it much. and nobody knows where red mist went to. so really this comic book is largely all about kick ass. and there is a hulking female villain in it whose name i cant remember.

Kick Ass 2 comic is horrible! Hope they dont follow it too closely

HE WILL BE THE KEY TO THIS FILM'S SUCCESS!!!
-
Was only tolerable because he died. He was fucking batshit crazy, putting his little girl into danger of that kind, warping her into that deadly little creature. I loved the movie, but always knew that fucker was crazy and needed to die.

Coulda been worse. They couldve kept Big Daddy's original motivation from the comics
by Dharma4
That would have been a shitty-ass movie. -Namaste-
-
I finished the Kick Ass 2 TPB last night and Red Mist wasn't in it- but his new persona, Motherfucker, was in it a a lot more than the Russian woman. It wasn't as good as the first series, but it is worth a read. There are some very funny parts in it- like when the Motherfucker & Kickass come face to face and pansy fight.

Moretz's douche of a brother wants an exec producing credit?
by mypalfish
This guy is worse than the worst stage mother, and is trying to ride her coattails as far as he can. Only part of Kick Ass that was worth watching was Hit Girl/Big Daddy.
-
Hey pussy, you know it's a movie right? You think the parents in Transformers were really that cool with their son hanging out with giant fighting robots? Agreed the comic sucked and only had the gang rape & animal violence as a way to up the "shock." Hope the Hit-Girl series is better
-
That is all.
-
Nic Cage = cowbell... need more! Maybe they could get Adam West to play grandpa to Hit Girl... gfy
-
... but decided.. why bother? The 1st movie took Nics character: a deluded number crunching fuckhead with a daughter he dragged with him into hell, to some kind of well meaning if horribly misguided vigilante with a daughter wanting to carry on without him. The story can only get worse as they make more pointless changes.

I beleive that KA2 will focus mainly on Hit Girl for the first third of the film..
by paul burnett
which will be taken from Millars upcoming Hit Girl story, before bringing in The Muthafucka etal for the remainder of the film. Horrible comic by the way,the dog beheading and rape are tame compared to the shooting of a group of children. Would rather see Superior or Nemesis on screen.
-
David Lynch to direct and Harvey Kietel as Rex..Maybe Beyonce as Eve!!
-
Awesome news, although Vaughn will be missed
-
..he gets some of his stuff from CHUD,credit where it's due...

I would much rather see him do this than another X Men flick...

Cage could easily come back in a Dexter-like talking ghost capacity, or in video recordings! Come on... it's a movie... anything can happen! Don't we all know this by now?

Anyway, I'm just pleased that the other three actors look likely to return.

There's this thing called 'EMBARGO' -- the organizers of press screenings put 'embargos' on their films (this has been going on for more than a decade -- and if a reviewer breaks that embargo, he'll likely never be invited to another screening organized by that event host. It's a big deal, actually. The site hasn't changed, the market has just become way more strict. Why should AICN break embargos, risk losing their reviewers, and allow other sites to 'scoop' them on reviews? Sure, it's about money. But, I mean, this is just common sense. Harry has less 'spies' now, but again, the industry has adapted to Harry and crew. It's way harder to sneak in and snag pics, as opposed to just getting the authority to send over an interviewer and snag as much 'official' information as possible. With so many competing websites, it's a dogeatdog world. No one's trying to outscoop the other one anymore, everyone's just playing by the rules.

1st one was one of the BEST comicbook movies of all time, will never understand the hate for it. However, I think Vaughn had a lot to do with it (the style of the film just felt like a comic come to life)

BD needs to stay dead. Flashbacks or maybe some "Kenobi" ghosts.
by Pixelsmack
That's about all they should do with his character.
-
I mean, from what I've seen, the Puberty Fairy has visited her since the first film. I imagine they'd have to work that into the story since not a lot of time has passed between KA and KA2 in the books.
-
I'd put money on it. John Romita Jnr said a while back he was hoping to be in charge of directing an animated segment for inclusion in the film.
-
doesnt feature very much and they said your wait for her to appear and then she does its ver brief. may be they want to do a spin off hitgirl comic book thing.

I think Mark Millar said the start of the film will be based on the HG comic
by Lone Fox
Then the rest is based on KA2.
-
The Hit Girl series comes out next month I think.
-
He's one of those writers who has an unabashedly over-the-top style that people either love or hate. Granted, Kick-Ass is story of what would likely happen if someone actually put on a costume and decided to be a superhero and actually fight crime. But in the same vein, it acknowledges and skewers the superhero genre, and he does it in a very dark and ultraviolent way. Such an extreme approach is either going to earn fans or it's going to turn people off. That's my theory, anyway.
-

hipshot, I can't really see the difference between Hit Girl and Robin as both were put in danger.
by Stalkeye
noted exception would obviously be that HG is a cold blooded killing machine. In case you haven't noticed, (which I'm sure you do.) 'Daddy was somewhat of a parody of Batman with bits of Punisher sprinkled in. And of course Hit Girl is his "Robin".
-
June 1, 2012, 12:16 p.m. CST
There's no way they are bringing 'daddy back from the dead.
by Stalkeye
If so, that poingant scene in which HG looks at her father's unfinshed Cocoa was all for nothing and and not to mention, meaningless. A Flashback scene or two would of course make sense. Unlike Marvel characters in the 616, once these guys are dead, they stay dead. BTW Is Ultimates Hawkeye still officially dead after all these years?
-
Was over the top just for the sake of going over the top. Stopped reading it the issue when red mist (or 'the motherfucker' as he changed his name to) gunned down the little kids. How do you spell bad taste? Apparently (and it wasn't always like this) M-I-L-L-A-R
-
I'm sure he was prepared for his own early demise, so he would have recorded a series of training videos for Hit Girl. I'd bet money on it. It seems the best way to integrate him into the sequel without pulling off a cheap way he survived in the first film.
-
where KA is nearly punched, beaten, kicked to death by Mark strong. and I found hit girl to be utterly obnoxious.
-
not the audience.. No I kid, I found the first one to be entertaining enough, especially the Big Daddy/Ht Girl stuff..In the meantime I'm cautiously optomistic about this one

That 70's Show was pretty KICK-ASS at the time... so why are the male leads from that show all such self-serious douchebags?
by Pvt. Duke
Topher Grace is the exception, he seems alright. Kutcher and Fez had their goofball niche, but both decided they were muscled Lotharios and now they're fucking lame (but at least in Kutcher's case, RICH). And Hyde is haughtiest prick ever (have you heard him on the radio?), although his shitty filmography doesn't come close to living up to his real-world pretensions. I saw Mclovin' talking enthusiastically about his gym membership once, and I got the same vibe. The kid can evolve in comedy without being the skinny nerd, I hope he knows this. When I saw him he looked like a disembodied head with the body of a beach volleyball player (male). I hope his role choices don't reflect this, because he was awful in Kick-Ass and Fright Night and any other time he does cool. He's cooler as a nerd.
-
Damn, if it ain't 'The Warriors' for squares. Frickin' lame.
-
Or maybe he will be Ghost Rider and this will be a crossover flick.
-
What? It's a comic book style movie. No one ever really dies. And really, Nick Cage answering the phone.... "I'll do it! Hello?"
-
I believe the point was, there have ALWAYS been "embargoes" in one form or another, and until recent years, AICN was kind of famous for NOT heeding them -- in fact, that's pretty much what the site was built on. Exclusive spy photos, script reviews, clandestine screenings, shady insider info, that kind of thing. These days, they've more or less become an aggregate news site with a smattering of badly-written reviews, features copped from other sites and press junket-interviews. In other words, there really isn't much to differentiate it from other sites, except a dedicated Talkback group, a layout that looked bad fifteen years ago, a lack of editorial content and the fact that no one here really seems to be on the "inside" of anything anymore.

COOL--I was doubtful that Chloe would reprise the role--Glad the the original Hit Girl will be back in action. She stole the show in the first one, IMO
by batmancw
-
as another poster said a Hit Girl series premieres soon & Millar has said that IT will make up the first 30 minutes or so of the KA2 movie--that way we dont have to wait for the finale for her to reappear
-
If he were to direct Kick Ass 2. He'd open with Kick Ass walking along the street feeling pretty pleased with himself. He meets Red Mist who shoots him stright in the face...dead. He said no one has ever opened a sequel where the main guy just dies..but they wouldn't let him do it.
-
I miss you papa. Please come home. I'll be good, I swear. Do you even still love me anymore?
-
plus all the batman movies. including the farcial batman and robin. and I saw the avengers movie. I have seen batman begins, the dark knight. and I might go and see the dark knight rises. plus I have seen all the xmen movies, except the xmen first class. I saw daredevil too and ghost rider. and I saw electra. I couldnt stand Kick Ass.

Big Daddy and Agent Coulson and Harvey Dent were all just fuckin' with you man. They're fine.

If Chloe Mortez was potrayed in the film as the hapless victim who gets molested in some shape or form, then that could be the case. But considering how agressive and stubborn her character in the original was, I can't honestly think most filmgeeks that love her character think that way. Honestly, I believe most people seem to be more intrigued by her personality and character than any of her uh...............physical attributes. At least thats how I see it. It's innocence, but for all the right reasons.

Chloe Moretz is the best thing to hit film in a long time!
by hatespeech
I love her, and she only gets better with time.
-
Yes, I would like to think that as well, but every EVERY Moretz related tb has proved this wrong.
-
Hit Girl stole the show. I laugh my ass off every time I see her slicing and dicing those drug dealers to the tune of the Banana Splits. Her main appeal was her young age, and that's gone now. The studio took too long to make this sequel. They should have immediately shot two more films together, after the success of the first, while Moretz was still a little kid.

ajit_maholtra. You're wrong. And there's something wrong with you!
by HanYoYo
The love people have for the Hit Girl character is no more sordid than that people had for Short Round in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. These are kids that are thrown into a violent or adult environment and manage to stand up for themselves in a movie-fantasy world. Anyway it's pointless me explaining this as you already understand. You clearly don't believe for a second that anyone that's enjoyed Kick Ass or in particular likes the Hit Girl character is sick or twisted. If you did, then there's definitely something wrong with you for entering a discussion with people you believe are pedophiles. Not to mention even thinking such a thing in the first place. Who actually goes around thinking innocent films are good for the mentally ill? Sorry, but you're a fucking idiot. Sadly the word is banded about like it has no meaning now. It's a very serious subject that you need to stop treating so lightly. Perhaps you should actually look into the damage it can cause before you start accusing people. Alternatively, accuse people to their face, and see where it gets you. Perhaps hang around outside a theatre once Kick Ass 2 is shown and start calling guys "pidos" and see how they react. Alternatively call the police and see how they react to your immature accusations. In short I think you're going to come up against the same attitude, which will be a variation on; fuck off!

1) No, I didn't think the parents in Transformers were "happy" with their son hanging out with robots. But they didn't force the robots on him, and he was in high school, not a little girl who apparently began her training at about the age of six. Or less. The fact that it is a movie has nothing to do with anything. I can fantacize that he could pull it off, but it doesn't change the fact that he abused her psychologically to do it. 2) The similarity to "Robin" is, of course, one of the reasons they have NEVER portrayed Robin as a young teenager in live-action. It would be entirely too creepy. But there are major differences: a) Robin already had highly developed skills, trained into him by his parents ("the Flying Graysons") from infancy. The question of whether they SHOULD have trained him is separate. I'd say that as long as they were using safety equipment, no problem. b) Robin was not his child. Children are incredibly malleable to their parents. Starting them, as Hit Girl obviously was, in early childhood is not a "choice" on her part. It was brainwashing, and we got to see a piece of this when he shot her in the chest, and she begged him not to. The filmmakers knew this was sick shit, and were playing with it as part of the overall emotional design of the movie. 3) Robin was, at the youngest, about 12 or 13 when he was adopted by Batman. He made a decision to avenge his parent. Hit girl had to begin her training LONG before then. Robin was trained to arrest and detain. Hit Girl to murder. She is a deliberate (and very clever) satire of the "kid sidekick" image in comics, subversive as hell. Love it. ## Discussing Pedophiliac images in the film is all right, apparently. But discussing the obvious: that Big Daddy warped his little girl. She has slaughtered dozens of people, not all of them in self defense (some were running away). She is one titanically sick puppy, and her father was an even sicker bastard for doing it to her. Now...none of this means I dislike "Kick Ass." In fact, I love it. I just see that part of what they were doing was mind-fucking the audience. Apparently, some of it went over your heads.
-
Provided they don't try to find some way to make her play the character as one year older and expect anyone to buy that. She's a teenager now and the first thing they should do with the sequel is diverge from the comics completely to account for her age. I think it could actually make the story more interesting if you deal with her not just promising to stop the crime fighting but actually have gotten completely out of it and then being pulled back in. Hell, make her pissed that she has to do this again. It can be done and it can be done well. You're not going to get the same dynamic between her and Big Daddy in the first one because he's gone. Cameo's or flashbacks aside that ship has sailed so why try to force it into working against all possible odds. Do something new. But one thing is absolutely certain. Fuck that shitty sequel comic in it's stupid ass. The only thing you borrow from it is the "2". Everything else you throw out in favor of a good idea (assuming someone in Hollywood can find one).
-
Fucking terrible casting choice, like getting Pee Wee Herman to play Freddy Kruger. It's just fucking stupid.
-
nice jorb

that it is now their personal responsibility to find a way to work in a way for him to be forced to say *the bees*. I don't care if it's on a kid's report card, or a way to explain why the crops are shrinking. *Why all THE BEES , junior. Only one A?* *The crops are shrinking and it's my opinion that it's the BEES. There are not enough of them this year.* The holy grail would be a guest spot on Sesame Street, featuring him running from a bunch of walking letter Bs screaming NOT THE BEES!! Make it so.

It tried desperately to be cool and funny but didn't succeed with either. It was BORING, whitewashed and bland. Brittish upper-class aristocrat Matthew Vaugn tried to prove that he got Fincher-esque edge and grit. Please... The only remotely good thing was Hit-girl talking trash and killing thugs but since I can't stand Chloe Moretz that didn't really work either.

Your posts are very odd. You're acting like the Empire Review is the only way to know anything about KA2, when it's out. It's been out. A lot of us have read it (the giant villaness you're taling about is Red Mist's bodyguard, Mother Russia...and no, he's all over the comics for KA2). And as someone who read it, I have to add my voice that it isn't very good.
