FRANKENWEENIE has a poster!
Hey folks, Harry here... The second that Tim Burton's short, FRANKENWEENIE, hit VHS - I've been in love with it. This is pretty much exactly how I played with my Dachshund that I had as a kid named Dr. Demento. As a kid that dog licked my cheek til I would return back to life. The magic between a little boy and his dog is an epic thing. Especially if that kid be a monster kid. I'm wildly curious to see how Tim Burton and crew have fleshed out the FRANKENWEENIE story - but most of all... I'm looking forward to the new toys this film and hopefully PARANORMAN will make available. So now, here's the poster - enjoy...

WTF?
-
Love to see Burton not be shit again.
-
still not convinced we needed this ...
-
Except for his Animation projects, they have all been fantastic, and I do not expect this to be any different. I actually wish he would stick to animation and stop making live action.

Harry's DVD column will be review after review of "Looks good..haven't seen it."
by openthepodbaydoorshal
Got some catchin' up to do chum.

Who gives a fuck. This movie might almost be relevant as pointless nostalgia, but that's about it, and there's better Pointless nostalgia out there (Men in Black 3, for one).

Not sure how appealing the line "From the Director of Alice and Wonderland" is...

I'm starting to think Henry Sellick is the reason The Nightmare Before Christmas is good.
by Tarijeno
Corpse Bride was just, ehhhh. This doesn't look a whole lot better. Tim Burton's career over the last 15 years has been "Hey, here's this fairy tale/cult classic that everybody's familiar with! How's about I cast Johnny Depp as the main character, my wife as the supporting actress, throw in a forgettable Danny Elfman score, give everybody dark bags under their eyes, and call it a movie!"
-
Who is he? What is he all about?
-
They should just be done with it and replace "From the director of Alice in Wonderland" with "Fuck Right Off".

I'm waiting for them to announce the 'Colorized' version!
by SoylentMean
I'm excited to see this movie and ParaNorman in theaters. Both have had my ticket money since I heard of their existence.
I'm very surprised that Disney has allowed this to go through as a B&W film!
I guess if you've made as much money for Disney as Burton has they're gonna let you play a little.
What if Burton directed a Pixar movie? And it was good?
-

If I could remove the 'From the Director of Alice in Wonderland" bit
by SoylentMean
from the poster, I would possibly want to own it.
I do hope this movie doesn't suck!
-
"The Corpse Bride" was fantastic; technically astounding (watch the making of features on building the puppets) and with a simple but timeless story. If this is anywhere near as good I'll be happy. Also, credit to Burton for pretty much single-handedly keeping the stop motion animation business alive.
-

Corpse Bride was good, animated fun! It's an October movie for me!
by SoylentMean
That reminds me to get the Blu-Ray for that movie. Both The Nightmare Before Christmas & Coraline are prime examples of why upgrading to HD is a great idea. At least for stop motion, animated films.
And yes, I know both films are directed by Henry Selick.

-
So that on the poster makes me not want to see it.

Alice in Wonderland is on the poster because the movie made a billion dollars.

one of the most redundant, unnecessary "remakes" ever. Burton is officially out of ideas.

Well, I only have very little interest in seeing Dark Shadows. I think he's lost it.

Now if he will only keep stop motion for Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiin.

I do wonder if it was actually filmed in color and they just color corrected to black and white in post
by Jaster Mareel
I don't know if you can even buy B/W filmstock anymore. It would seem kinda stupid to limit yourself that way. If it's aimed at kids....it's gotta be in color. Just seems like a very silly business move.

Never saw the original but it sounds like a kid friendly version of PET SEMETARY, correct? Will be nice to see a new stop motion non-CGI film!
by MENTALDOMINANCE
-
Might extend his career two decades or more.
-
It looks like this is the only dog design Tim Burton can come up with. He's been in the Nightmare Before Christmas, Amazing Stories/Family Dog, and both versions of Frankenweenie. Still waiting for Family Dog on blu ray or hell even dvd.

I love the look and the design, but I hate that stop motion has been
by sweeneydave
perfected to the point that it looks like CGI. I want it to be stop motion. I want to remember than these are all props that exist not just in a world of their own, but in OUR world! Nightmare Before Christmas was magical because of that. The lighting was all real, not added after the fact. It reminded me of the shots that I would construct (complete with lighting) as a kid with my toys. I would lie my face down on the floor and look up and pose my Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles that would seem dramatic and epic. NBC was a dream come true for me when it came out and I've never seen anything come out of stop-motion animation that has compared.

How can you fucktards hate him? Or even remotely mock him? His ONE bad movie was Planet of the Apes. Shit you nerds are a bunch of faggots!
-

And apparently Johnny Depp's character from Corpse Bride co-stars
by Jaster Mareel
Because that is the EXACT same design.

From the director of Frankenweenie comes Frankenweenie
by Mickster_Island
-
It certainly had a lot going for it. Rick Baker was a fuckign ROCKSTAR in that movie. Paul giamatti and Tim Roth were both great in it too. I was even pretty down with the new take on the story. Unfortunately Mark Wahlberg just urinated all over it and completely destroyed the film. His smug tough-guy bullshit is a total stain on the movie. There was nothing to like about his character at all.....and he's the fucking protagonist!
-
I never saw the original on VHS, but my understanding was that Vincent Price lent his voice to that project. Since this is esentially a long version of that project, does anyone know if Tim went back to those recordings and used Vincent's voice? Would be very cool if he did!
-
Buy the Japanese version of the poster. Tell people the characters mean "From the director of NOTHING AFTER ED WOOD".
-
all this will be is a 5 minute short stretched to feature length with seen before filler material reminiscent of nightmare before christmas and corpse bride.
-
Check yo' grammar, fool!
-
Best when read with a ridiculous pirate accent.

I literally can't remember a scene from it other than the stupid ending he stole from Kevin Smith's Jay and Silent Bob comic book.

burton has been bested by those who he inspired. this frankenweenie version is really really sad to behold.

by cookylamoo
"Nightmare before Christmas" maybe.

Yeah, its a selling point for Alice in Wonderland.

Design of Frankenweenie is ripped directly off from Amazing Stories' "Family Dog".
by TheyPeedOnYourFuckingRug
And I mean, one hundred percent directly the fuck off. Compare pictures of the two.

True, theypeedonyourfuckingrug— Dude is the spitting image of Family Dog.
by PotSmokinAlien
As if I needed another reason to not see this movie...

The Family Dog cartoon is just the familys adventures before the dog dies. Frankenweenie is after.

How about an original idea? Christ!
-
May 31, 2012, 4:23 p.m. CST
tim burton had something to do with family dog, if i'm correct.
by zom-bot.com
like, character concepts or co writing or something. so, don't say it's a rip-off, just say that tim isn't trying very hard at all.
-
Hope it's something original and classic, despite the standard cookie-cutter Tim Burton look to it.
-
May 31, 2012, 5:34 p.m. CST
Anyone getting tired of the upside down triangle shaped head look?
by Crobran
I know, I know, that's nitpicky....but I'd like to see something different. This is Billy Crystal's "You look marvelous!" It's J.J. Abram's lens flares. It's Keanu Reeve's "whoa" and accompanying bland expression. It's schtick. However, all of these guys rightfully have their place in the halls of fame, at least in part BECAUSE of their schtick. Maybe I should shut up.
-
This is what Burton does best! If he's good at one thing it's making classic horror homages with macabre humor, and you guys are bitching about that?!! I swear, Comic Book Guy becomes less parody and more portraiture every time I come here...
-

ZERO INTEREST IN THIS. and most likely anything from Burton.

He is done. Over. Thank you for PeeWee, Beetlejuice, Nightmare Before Xmas, and Batman.

Seriously people in the theater after this Frankenshit trailer aired actually *sighed* or remained cricket silent.
-

No Depp? No Carter? Has Hell frozen over already...?
by Nasty In The Pasty
Also nice to see early Burton vets like Catherine O'Hara and Winona Ryder in the voice cast. While I was disappointed by Burton's last two films, I have high hopes for this.
-
Why is this a story now?
-
...other than the overly quick battle/resolution in Wonderland. I thought it was pretty damn good up to that point.
And I'm not a Tim Burton hater, either. He does his own thing. Wes Anderson does his own thing. Darren Aronofsky has a thing. Terrence Malick has a thing. I like all of their stuff and quite a few other directors with their own "style" or "point of view" as well. Its kind of a movie tradition, so I'm not sure why Tim Burton gets hated on for it so much.
However, I'm not looking forward to this, either. Seems a bit pointless. Like, it's probably something he was promised he could do for taking a few of his recent jobs.
-
So how exactly does it work out that Frankenweenie is a rip off of Family Dog from Amazing Stories? (but yes, Tim Burton did the animation production design for Family Dog... so.... I guess he could have *ripped* himself off)
-
Mmmm shoe leather.
-
was live action, so you can't really say Family Dog took the design from there!

I saw this poster the other day while watching shitty Battleship in awesome Dbox seats
by BIG_BAD_WOLF_IN_CAPS
Shit fest of a flick, fun in the seats. And, Frankenweenie looks enjoyable
-
Last week I took my son and three of his friends (ages 5 - 8) to see the Aardman film "Pirates: Band of Misfits" or whatever it was called. Both Frankenweenie and ParaNorman had trailers, and to me they both have similar tone and visual style. The kids didn't make a peep during Frankenweenie but they went nuts over ParaNorman and begged me to take them when it comes out. Make of that what you will, but if you can't even interest a bunch of little kids for 60 seconds you have a boring-ass movie on your hands. So, ParaNorman gets my money and Frankweenie gets relegated to bottom of my Netflix queue until I purge it in favor of something better.

Given his history with the Mousehouse, Burton's success at Disney is unexpected to say the least
by Legolars
Burton and Disney shouldn't go together really.
