IRON MAN 3 SPOILAGE AHOY!!!
Cutting to the chase...
THIS article over at SuperHeroHype reveals that Iron Patriot will appear in Shane Black's IRON MAN 3 movie.
Meanwhile, over at What Would Tyler Durden Do, you can catch a few pretty good spy shots offering supporting evidence of Iron Patriot's appearance with James Badge Dale donning the armor.

From one IRON MAN 3 spoiler to another, if you're trying to stay away from potential story points and character inclusions for IRON MAN 3, then you're better off turning back now. However, if you just have to know now, then read on.
With these images of James Badge Dale on the set as the Iron Patriot, that creates a lot of confusion as to just who is going to be part of IRON MAN 3 and to what expect, especially since Dale was cast as Eric Savin who eventually becomes Coldblood, never Iron Patriot.
In fact, it was Norman Osborn (after the Civil War, in the post-S.H.I.E.L.D. world where HAMMER replaced it) who was. But we can't see Norman Osborn in the Marvel Movie Universe unless Sony is ready to give special permission for his use outside of the Spider-Man Universe, which is highly doubtful at this point... so that means perhaps Savin may begin as Iron Patriot before somehow being turned into Coldblood later in the film. How could that happen?
Latino Review insists that Ben Kingsley is going to be The Mandarin... no ifs, ands or buts about it. Regardless of what Marvel wants to say, that's the role he's going to play, but he'll be more of an over-arcing character in the background while Guy Pearce's Aldrich Killian is center stage as the villain. That still allows for Coldblood and Firepower (Ashley Hamilton) to get involved, but damn if that doesn't sound like a shitload of villains for Tony Stark to take on in one movie.
This is sounding less and less like a firm follow of the Extremis storyline, as only select elements from it are picked and chosen.

Yes, because America is always the enemy in liberal Hollywood.
by locke815
That's why the heroic Iron Man is wearing the Red and Yellow most ordinarily associated with the Soviet Union. Of course, I've never understood why liberals give Hollywood a pass... letting them earn millions and millions and millions and still charging us poor- and middle-class folks for tickets... hell, part of Avengers was filmed in Michigan in order to take advantage of those evil "tax breaks" we have to hear about. How many children had to go hungry in order to line Jon Favreau's pockets?

Wouldnt have minded Iron Patriot as a villian in Cap 2.
by whatevillurks
Cap's optamistic patriotism vs full on nationalism.
-
Having Iron Man repeatedly fighting other variations of his own suit draws far too much attention to the fact that in the real world technology is not uniquely bonded to an individual, that mass production and large organization will always win over an individual eccentric in the end. I may overestimate how much this will grate on the average movie-goer, but I would argue that for the series to be sustainable, they need to play up the idea that there is something slightly magical about his situation - that his suits are a bit like Thor's hammer on some level and get away from suit-vs-suit with an arbitrary writer-decreed victory to the battle at the end.

Iron Patriot was originally just a goof / misdirection teaser for Civil War, then they actually did it
by Tall_Boy6t6
As much I can remember "Iron Patriot" was a re-coloured Iron Man / Civil War cover that was sent out as a teaser so people wouldn't know the ending of Civil War. Then they liked the design / colours so they re-did it with Norman Osborn under the suit. And then he went crazy as Osborn is wont to do, so it went away. Cool to see it again, they said they wanted to make this flick standalone but, c'mon, you gotta see Steve Rogers reaction to THIS at least!

for you whiny bitches bemoaning IM vs. another guy in a suit, the total amount of screen time in the first two movies of IM fighing War Monger and Whiplash (in his suit for the finale) was all of about MAYBE 15 minutes combined. Or, 15 minutes less than the time we had to suffer through Favreau wasting movie time having his ugly mug on screen. Here's hoping IM3 is much, much less talky and boring than IM2, and we get some longer quality Iron Man vs. Villian(s) scenes.
-

by locke815
-
it seems like they are pulling ideas from all aspects as opposed to focusing strictly on one storyline from the books. I think this looks really cool and I'm curious to see how it all fits into place in context. I am really hoping we will finally see a true to form Hall of Armors and some serious Alcoholism. Shane Black has a proven track record. The naysayers will be proved wrong come July in San Diego.
-
So I guess we can kiss the Mandarin good-bye it looks like more suit on suit action. With the Avengers you would think it would've opened their eyes to more possibilities here. I mean there's a lot others you could've done.
-
Did they add this asshole because he looks like Captain America and they're afraid that anything after the Avengers will tank so they have to have the look of that movie? Fucking lame.
-
that was similar but not the same, and has now disappeared. If we are getting an Iron Man/Captain America hybrid in Iron Man 3 (someone wanting to create their own "hero" by copying others) I wonder if we'll see US Agent in Captain America 2. Maybe D-Man? (doubtful since Fox might get upset at the Daredevil/Wolverine mash-up costume). How about Taskmaster?

... I don't remember Robocop fighting a version of himself that was painted up like the American flag in ROBOCOP 3 (since the first two IRON MAN movies ripped off ROBOCOP 2 ... awww, forget it. If you gotta explain the joke ...).

Does Sony actually own the "Green Goblin" character, or just the iteration used in the SPIDER-MAN flicks? If so, does that mean Fox will perpetually own Dr. Doom, Galactus and all the X-Men villains, too? 'Cause, eventually, at the rate they keep shitting out these comic book movies, they're gonna run out of bad guys ...
-
I do like the thought of it being the Iron Patriot this time around. In the hard to re-watch IM2, a lot of the "plot" was driven by Garry Shandling's character and Congress having issue with Stark keeping the iron man tech to himself. It would make sense to me that the gov't would continue to try and get a suit made, maybe through some theft of Stark's stuff (mostly the power source), and present it to the world as their own badass super iron man soldier. But as I type this I realize they essentially did that with War Machine in IM2, so unless he's off the grid in this movie, or maybe this is a different part of the gov't? Like the CIA or something? (And how does the CIA feel about SHIELD flying those bigass helicarriers around? They must have transport-envy).

I'm not even a comic fan...but isn't that what the extremis storyline they keep talking about is? Suit vs. mass-produced suit will eventually result in Iron Man's defeat...so he "becomes" the suit with nanotech and rises above? Don't all these suit villains play into that storyline?

American Son was a dark reign storyline i believe where Norman did have plans for Harry involving goblin serum and a suit of armor, which he did don for like an issue before he took out his pops for impregnating his girl. (Wow, comics recaps can really sound like soap opera recaps).

when they first came out and Harry was American Son, but haven't read much of any titles the past couple of years. Don't remember much of what happened then and, obviously, since; but I do have a memory of a similar looking suit on Harry. I like your summary better - concise and quick.

by Mr. Pricklepants

You know, I'd have thought the same thing, but look at all the Transformers drool from the public; people LOVE watching mechanical shit beat on other mechanial shit. For me, as long as the suit fights are good, it doesn't matter. Iron Patriot, however, is Osborn--it's the whole point behind the suit, so I don't get how this is being used without. Either way, I'm excited. Shane Black and Ironman? Fucking great.
-
No kidding, man... Dark Avengers on screen? Too good, man, too good. In my dreams, it's the full story arc from A: Dissassmbled through Siege, with Planet Hulk too. But, that's impossible.
-
Okay I know nothing about who fought who in the Iron Man comic series, but seriously??? The VILLAIN in IM3 is going to be decked out in the Stars & Stripes????! WTF. April fools?
-
Here's what I think will happen: Playing off the end of The Avengers, when the news was reporting people differing on whether superheroes were a good or bad thing, I can see the government creating the Iron Patriot armor and JBD will be chosen as the best to don the suit. I'm thinking he could be of the 'USAgent' mold when he first showed up, all 'rah rah patriotic' and whatnot. I can see the government filling his head with a bunch of BS as to why Stark/IM is a menace, threat, danger, etc. I can see this going on in the background while IM is busy with Pearce and Kingsley. This wont be the main story, but will plant the seeds for CIVIL WAR, which will build in the background of each of the various superhero films for a while. Lets say that IM takes care of the threat posed by Pearce and Kingsley and when we think its the end of the film, the Iron Patriot shows up to take him down (Yes, I realize this will mirror IM2 with War Machine). There will be much destruction and maybe a death (Hogan? and some civilians?) this will further the debate as to whether or not superheroes are a good thing. Any thoughts?

by Ash Talon
It looks like War Machine painted in patriotic colors. It's obviously not Osborn as Iron Patriot.
It could very well be a natural progression of War Machine, since Rhodes probably took the WM back to the military after IM2. Stark let him go too, so he came to some kind of decision about letting it go.
This suit could very well just be a government-controlled IM that gets his ass handed to him by Mandarin or the Extremis-infused bad guy to show off the bad guy's strength.
Having technology-based villains for IM makes sense. It's his world. I'm rather sure there will be several cannon-fodder villains/supporting characters whose defeats will just showcase how powerful Stark really is. I have faith in Shane Black.

Yeah, who wants Suit VS Suit action... in an IRON MAN MOVIE
by Emperor_was_a_jerk
The movies are CALLD "IRON MAN". The entire concept of the movies are that it is a guy in a SUIT that fights. It's like going to see a movie about WWII fighter pilots and not wanting to see fighter plan VS fighter plane action. That suit looks AWESOME. It looks like an Iron Man suit, but with a garish, over the top (on purpose) paint job. Like a hot rod. You nerds complain about everything. If it looked nothing like the comic, you would bitch and moan. If it looks just like the comic, you bitch and moan. They make up characters not in the comic, you bitch and moan, they bring characters from the comic (as closely as they can considering copyright ownership) and you bitch and moan. All, may I ad, from a couple of blurry, out of context pictures of a suit on the set. This may sound like a foreign and radical idea but how about, you know, waiting until you actually SEE THE MOVIE before freaking out and calling it crap?

by FreeBeer
-
I'm glad they're not totally sticking with Extremis. Wilmington's only 2 hours away. I would love to catch a glimpse of something like this.
-
Etremis was basically...What would happen if the if a child survived a Ruby Ridge type scenario and as an adult was given the whereabouts of a Nanotech Weapon and was primed for revenge. He basically destroys Stark leaving him no choice but to become the machine so to speak.
-
Detroit Steel was a lame storyline. But it's too soon from the last film to have Justin Hammer's wife and Mandarin's love-child bent on destroying Tony Stark. I don't dig the Iron Patriot being used without having Norman Osborn (THIS IS THE WAY HIS NAME IS FUCKING SPELLED SO GET IT RIGHT)! But Disney has no rights to use Norman. So perhaps they're using Iron Patriot as a joke. Like the military painting Rhodey's War Machine suit and setting it up for fail.

It's 2012 AND the film is part financed by a Chinese company....
by u.k. star
I cannot believe that they would dare to have a non Chinese person, even one who is half Indian, playing a Chinese (again, mixed race) character! Those days need to be over and as much as I love Ben Kingsley it just isn't right at all. Of course the character culd be altered so that he wasn't Chinese, but I have trouble seeing that work, given the co-production angle, either. You take one of the, if not the, biggest Chinese (Oriental / caraters in Marvel, even if he is a villain, and you chnge his race; in a film being partly sho in China, witha ton of Chinese money. It just doent add up for me. Also the film is clearly heading down the line of Iron Man VS people in an out of suits. It's Iron Man, he gights people in other suits a fair amout of the time, I don't see a problem. The key is having intersting people for Starlk and Iron Man to deal with. Of course we could lways have Thor turn up again and deal with an overpowred Iron Man without breaking sweat. I did enjoy that scene.

2 Marvel Studios films a year - an Avengers film (with differing casts) every 2 - 3 years...
by u.k. star
Nope, I won't be getting sick of that for a long, long time: Unless they make Batman Forever / Batman & Robin or Ghost Rider level crap every year. It really is not much at all. It is skewed a the mo because the Avengers characters are the same as the current batch of Solo chracters; but we'll be getting different solo Avengers and Avenges films with say just Iron Man and 4 or 5 "new" characters. Downey Jnr. Iron Man could be a character who only apears in Avengers moviesand has no solo film for several years. There's endless possabilities and all that matters is that the films are good and entertaining most (preferably all, butnobody's perfect) of the time.
-
built up from Iron Man 1 and 2, Cappy and Thor, and all the little after-credits scenes. Avengers was the payoff. I doubt there will be as much interest now, but i'm sure it will still make $$$
-
As IM2 proved, the individual Stark storylines has to involve him fighting someone else in an iron suit. How long before Pepper gets her own? I say bag these solo shots and stick with AVENGERS.
-
so if he's going to go back to fighting mere mortals in IM3, there better be a hell of alot of them to be any kind of threat. Also, Shane Black kicks ass. Too bad we couldn't get a total KKBB reunion, and get Val Kilmer to play Iron Manatee.

Suit vs. suit would be fine if it is indeed like Armor Wars,
by Bedknobs and Boomsticks
which is what they should've had in the part 2 as a subplot in montage scenes, showing him multitasking while dealing with Mandarin. Armor Wars-type imagery would work if the filmmakers weren't so scared to go more 616-esque, with weird themed suits: Beetle, Firepower, Crimson Dynamo, Titanium Man, Blizzard, Dreadknight, The Unicorn, etc. (oh, and maybe Doctor Doom if they could get the rights). Then they could've gotten it out of the way, and establish that he will indeed go up against armored foes in addition to the stranger ones. But that won't happen because Favreau pushed the "realism" milieu too hard.
-

So, some intern in the props department paints up an old Iron Man suit. They walk out the back of the set (obviously in view of people with cameras), and stick it on one of the cast. Hey presto - we're all discussing Iron Patriot, Osborn etc... I wouldn't be surprised if they pull another stunt and show us another 'villain' wandering around the set.
-
Less Extremis the better. They went out of control in that storyline. I can see them making Iron Man 3 a set up for Iron Man 4... Iron Patriot shows up and he's more of a joke... America's Iron Man essentially and just over the top... Not Norman Osborn but Salvin playing him. Have him either defeated by Mandarin or turned by him... He then turns into Coldblood and the official henchman to Mandarin. I know a lot of people are tired of "tech" villains but I think they are necessary and can be balanced out if you also have a magical force in place(Mandarin). I'm glad to see all of this because the nano-technology shit was scaring me. They could simply make Iron Man too strong.

That suit looks outrageously stupid. Please let it be a joke or someone killed off early.
by kevred
Are they going to pull an Apollo Creed in Rocky IV? I hope most of all that this is a joke, because that looks terrible and just muddies the water with Captain America. And if they intend to use it to point out the folly of patriotism over humanity, that's a worthwhile point to make but we can see that coming from several miles away. Way too obvious a point to build a story around. But it does remind me that this is a sequel to a horrible movie. I hope this armor has nothing of importance to do with the story, and they get back to the magic we saw in IM1 and Avengers.

No thanks. And yeah, I know about Osborne in the comics. Taking a lousy divisive ideas from the comics doesn't make it less lousy or less divisive. Fail.
-
Following the logic of much of the Marvel Universe (where, with some rare exceptions, mainly in The Ultimates, any hero who works for the govt MUST be a jackbooted fascistic goon), what does that say about soldiers and police? About anyone designing body armor or helmets for our troops? Or -gasp - the planes, tanks, and munitions they use? Yeah, some lovely 'deep' thinking there. Guess the only admirable folks are vigilantes, huh?

I tend to think that moving towards Civil War would be fairly inevitable. But I hope there are other aspects that build into it, like the Initiative (Avengers Academy) or even better, Thunderbolts. But lacking a Normal Osborne character, I hope they find a way to include a reformed villain working for the government and being charismatic and politically seductive.

what if we finally get some skrulls? what if this is the introduction of a skrull invasion for the Avengers Sequel? What if we finally see a single universe film. Where the conflict in Iron Man is also occurring in Captain America, and then the joint scenes in Avengers 2? Imagine one giant battle that carries over into 4 different films. could be incredible.
-
That looks complete shit. It's time to back off the suits and find something else to pit Iron Man against. This looks like it's starting to get silly.

A coworker of mine is an extra in Iron Man 3, and was on set earlier this week in Wilmington, NC. He mentioned seeing Don Cheadle a couple of times.

We don't know that Iron Patriot will be an IM3 bad guy or not
by Ye Not Guilty
Iron Patriot could just be a government sponsored, backwards-engineered War Machine rip-off that gets his ass handed to him by either Tony Stark (in upgraded, Extremis armor) or the big bad of the film.
-
From an Armor Wars segment where he tracks down all the rip-offs of his "tech."

-
Does this mean he was one-and-done in Iron Man 2? I was hoping for a re-introduction and possibly even a cameo in Avengers or possibly a set-up and major role upgrade in this movie for a big cameo in the Avengers sequel. Maybe they're setting up the storyline such that there's lot's of villains who will take on Tony and Rhodey as a team, since we know that Cheadle will be in this one and since we also know that War Machine is officially and effectively a part of the Iron Man Universe. I find it hard to see how Iron Man has to take on all these villains and War Machine is nowhere to be seen (even thought the same question could be asked of Avengers which clearly took place chronologically AFTER Iron Man 2). They would probably have to come up with a lame reason for why he was MIA when essentially the Earth was under attack and we needed all hands on deck. It's easy enough to explain the absence of a character like Jane Foster from Thor, like they did, but how do you explain the military - especially with an asset like War Machine being nowhere to be found as New York is being invaded by aliens especially after the War Machine with IRon Man took down a villain in that same city in Iron Man 2.
-
It sounds like they're setting up future movies while creating Iron Man 3. Maybe Iron Man 4, maybe something else, maybe both.
-
This movie is going to be epic clown shoes. Fail. Pull the plug. Or whatever. People claim the talkback on this site has always been this bad. But I disagree. There were always grouches in the past, but at least those grouches responded with some reasoning and attempts at cleverness. It's all just gotten so lunkheaded.

War Machine, in my mind, has always seemed kind of like Gambit.
by kevred
That is, something that only '90s kids think is cool. Seems like such a one-note thing. I think with the likes of Kingsley and Pearce, the studio knows where it's Iron Man bread is buttered: interesting characters, not just blowin' stuff up. This is only my opinion, of course. I'm sure lots of people think some of the things I like are lame. For example, some might deride Elfquest (even though Wendy Pini wipes the floor with pretty much every comic book artist working today), which I think was genius.
-
Rhodey is based out of Edwards AFB on the west coast. All the Avengers action took place between Germany and NYC. By time they knew NYC was the invasion target, they were already on the east coast. Even if they had called in RHodey at that point in time, War Machine wouldn't have gotten there in time (and he'd also probably have to obey military orders to stay clear of the city once the nuke launch was decided).

If I had to guess... maybe this is a build up for Dark Avengers?
by Johnno
Like maybe for the build up to Avengers 2, some other dude is trying to form his own Avengers Initiative as a rival to the Avengers given all the superhero enthusiasm following the end of the Avengers movie. So this here guy comes up with the idea of combining Iron Man and Captain America as the Iron Patriot and setting up his own rival 'Avengers', a Norman Osbourne, but without the Spidey background and renamed. This series of events causes Stark to get ahead of the game and try and form the basis of a better coalition and base for the Avengers in the lead up to Avengers 2. By using the 'Dark Avengers' kind of storyline they can introduce more super-villians/dark heroes, and this will be a running theme I imagine throughout all the other character films.

Lunkheaded, yes. Good word for it. Everything sucks unless it was made in 1982 or before. Every technological advance looks terrible and fake, or is a gimmick/fad. If millions love it, I hate it, even if it's undeniably amazing. It does get tiresome, boring, dull. But.... I just try to tune it out really.
-
Really guys? WTF.
-
and is THAT strong, and controllable - you'd just let him do the ass kicking surely ?
-
Post Credit scene, Iron Man 3, Stark walks outside the patio of his New York City Tower with a drink in his hand. He looks out for a moment And without a looking around, or acknowledging there's someone else there, he starts talking. Something to the effect that he's been impressed with his work and thinks they could be valuable to each other... That he doesn't always have to play alone. The camera pans to reveal Spider-Man. _Cut to Black_ I get this feeling ASM is going to be huge... and Disney knows that the one way to top The Avengers Box Office would be to get a deal going to get Spidey in the Avengers. The right deal and everyone wins.

At he end of the Avengers, a lot of 'mind controlled' chitauris dropped senseless on the ground. What happend to those aliens? Where are they? Shield detenction facilities? I guess that will pay off in the next marvel studio movies. As for the Iron Patriot shots, seriusly guys are you really so internet-stupid to toss a movie in the thrashcan just based on a bunch of pictures? The all-out-haters-community is the worst the internet has to offer...
-
The way you tossed that line in there, you make it seem like you think it's a GOOD idea to cram that many villains into the film. Who are they going to shove in there next? MODOK? Fin Fang Foom? Grey Gargoyle? Ultimo? Living Laser? My confidence in this thing being better than Iron Man 2 is dropping with each story that surfaces on it.

Iron Patriot is a over-the-top, blatant shot at Iron Man and Captain America. The public ate it up and Hawkeye threw several tantrums. While it can work in the movies, I think some of the effect will be missed, because part of the reason tey were so upset was due to the fact it was Norman Osborn mocking them.
-
I am so freaking tired of this guy-in-suit vs. guy-in-suit, then big-hulking-green-thing vs. big-hulking-grey-thing. Jesus! Look at Spider Man. THAT'S how you do villains. Kraven, Doc Oc, Vulture... all with their own special unique powers... not Spider Man vs BeetleGuy or CentipedeDude. This is going to be a rehash of IronMan vs WarMachine, just longer. Ugh.
-
...is stupid. They moaned before Avengers was out, they are moaning before TDKR is out...the point to them is just to moan. They don't know the comics, the characters or the storylines, yet they bitch about it like there was their life on the line. Well, stupid people with a keyboard and an internet service is stupid. go post elsewhere.

awepittance: so if someone says to wait to see a movie, he is part of a paid focus group?
by Emperor_was_a_jerk
There you go proving my point once again. You would rather completely judge a movie as being crap from a couple of blurry spy shots rather than wait and see the movie. These photos offer no context, no storyline, no information at all. The armor looks kind of fun and could be a spectacular addiction to the Iron Man/Marvel universe. Or it could be crap. But for me I would rather wait and see the movie to judge. The freaking movie just started shooting! I know this is a website for nerds to scream about how everything sucks but let's not be to fast to be The Comic Book Guy and actually judge a movie after we've seen it. That's all I'm saying. I will once again remind you how everyone judged The Dark Knight to be total crap and a complete "fail" with just news of Heath Ledger being cast as Joker. He was all wrong for the part. We didn't need another Joker in a movie, blah blah blah. But that all turned out pretty good. Of course, as a nerd full of rage you probably ink TDK "sucked" and Ledger was an "epic fail" as The Joker but you would be the minority in that opinion.

In the comics Iron Patriot was perfect, the right enemy at the right time, with all of the dark avengers under him. He was the one to hate, everybody wanted to see him taken down, kinda like king Jeoffrey. I don't know about the movie (since it's not out yet you morons), but the base concept was awesome. Read more comics you retarded hipsters.

super power = douche spray
-
Sure there are always a couple of douche nozzles that say a film will suck based on really nothing, but otherwise we were all pretty hopeful for Avengers. What some of us were cautioning, and RIGHTFULLY SO, was Joss Whedon's resume. He has never done anything REMOTELY CLOSE to this. He's never shot action worth a damn and all his characters are snarky jagoffs. Well, that's a pretty big red flag! And it wasn't just AICN that was worried about it either, fans the world over echoed the same concerns, prompting Whedon himself to come out and assure us that he was taking the characters very seriously. So he pulled it out, one way or another. Whether he had a strong guiding hand helping him or whether he was able to put aside his snarkiness for the sake of the film and spent time learning how to shoot action, it worked like gangbusters.

Why is everybody sure it's Extremis? Wasn't the rumored link supposed to be in Avengers?
by Domi'sInnerChild
That's how I remember it. Somebody said there was an EXTREMEly dangerous villain at the end of Avengers and Latino Review ran with it. That villain (I won't say in case you didn't see it) sure wasn't Extremis related.
-
I could see Iron Patriot and Firepower being the suit wearing henchmen for Killian (maybe even a few more guys in suits that dont have major roles) that beat Iron Man and force him to go the Extremis route. That would work. I have faith in Shane Black to make it all fit.

Or maybe Disney will do whatever they want with the characters
by apersonofinterest
So far as I've seen, very little of these movies have much to do with the comics besides the Character's Image. Origins, Storylines, etc..All pretty much new and not accurate to the books so I'm guessing they will do whatever they want with Iron Patriot and it does no good to speculate and hate.

Marvel has to do things differently than the comics now though...
by Andrew Coleman
They are not getting Spidey back anytime soon. Don't get me wrong I want that tweeny ASM bull shit to fail. But kids and idiots won't let that happen. So Marvel can't have any of the Spidey or X-Men stuff and that is huge... They also don't get Fantastic Four or Silver Surfer stuff either. So they are going forward with what they got. Adding Iron Patriot could work if done right. I think people are getting a little over the top with the hating on tech vs. tech stuff. Frankly I'd like to see Black try it out. I don't personally believe we've seen the best Iron Man vs. Tech battle on screen yet. Also if Patriot is backed up by a magical element like Mandarin I really think it could work.

Same deal as Avengers. Trust the writer and director
by Domi'sInnerChild

First of all, the effects were fucked up. Too cartoony. Second of all the antagonists were too gruesome/scary for kids. Thirdly, don't take us to Oa...then immediately plop us right back down to Earth again. Once we're in space we wanna stay there. Also I didn't feel this way, but I've heard other people say they thought the final battle was over too quickly. Overall I'd say the Green Lantern movie was really good and exceeded my expectations. It got a lot of the lore out there and set up for future films. But they unfortunately fucked it up and you'll notice that despite WB saying immediately after GL was released that they were working on a sequel....there is NO talk whatsoever of a sequel.
-
May 31, 2012, 1:50 p.m. CST
I think GL was a victim of the =Let's make it dark like The Dark Knight= sentiment
by Jaster Mareel
GL is not a dark character. The GL universe is not a dark universe, but they made the film kinda dark. I want to highlight the fact that the antagonists were too fucking guresome and scary for kids. I mean, Skaarsgarde was goddamn DISGUSTING! and Parallax was too fucking freaky. Superhero films are for kids and teens. TDK was sort of an exception because it's too dark, dramatic and violent for kids, but worked overwhelmingly for adults. I'm not going to sit here and say it only worked because batman is inherantly dark because I'm sure a much lighter Batman film could do gangbusters too. But Green Lantern was clearly made to sell toys, and there's nothing really wrong with that, but if you're making a film to sell toys, make it light enough for kids! I mean, that's sort of obvious right?
-
May 31, 2012, 1:50 p.m. CST
Hey, idiots who keep saying 'you guys complain about everything'... it's not the same guys every time, morons.
by kevred
Just because you see complaints on every talkback doesn't mean that anyone is complaining every single time. I think Iron Patriot is stupid, boring, and obvious, looks ridiculous, and should be avoided. I also love the idea of Kingsley as Mandarin, and am glad to see Pearce in anything. I hated IM2 with a passion, thought it was utter trash. I loved IM1, thought it was terrific. Hoping 3 sets things right. I thought the Avengers posters looked horrible, and worried a bit when I saw the trailers, but I still really looked forward to the film, and loved it when I saw it. I thought Batman Begins was boring, thought TDK contained genuine brilliance for one small part of the film before crashing into mediocrity, and TDKR looks flat to me. I loved Thor, liked Cap, quite enjoyed Woman in Black, really liked the Harry Potter films, adored the LOTR films, hated the Star Wars prequels, and am loving the Danger Mouse DVDs I'm currently going through. We all like some things and dislike others. That's all going to be reflected in every talkback. So if the people upset at other people's opinions could do us a favor and shut up about it, we'd immediately see talkback waste cut by 50%.
-
Just set me loose on that shit! I thought the first movie was ok. I thoguht the kids were mostly annoying and really didn't like the fact that although Potter kept breaking the rules, he not only wasn't punished, but was REWARDED for it! Total horseshit! And then the end when he defeats Voldemort because he has =love in his skin=...fucking christ! But the production design was inspired and I was willing to watch the second installment. I really liked Chamber of Secrets. I thoguht it was a much stronger story and really got me interested in that world. The characters were more developed and this time it had a great final fight. I thought the third one was ok. The formula was starting to get obvious and the werewolf looked like a shaved chihuahua, but I enjoyed it well enough. Goblet of Fire is the best goddamned HP film by a large sretch. good humor and excellent fantasy adventure with lots of cool stuff going on. LOVE that film despite consistantly weak acting by Radcliffe. After that they were all shit in my opinion. Boring, stupid, waste of time ending with a great big fucking BLAH.
-
3rd Spiderman sucked. 3rd X-Men sucked. Will this never end?
-
I am willing to bet since the military already gained War Machine in Ironman 2, they are going to let Eric Savin blow-up and have no choice but to keep him alive by "fusing" him with the War Machine armor. Remember, in each previous film the military/government is all over Stark to get their hands on his tech. Now that they got it in 2, they are going to exploit it American style in Ironman 3. They have been picking bits and pieces here and there all along from the comic, so don't stick to the complete comic book lore and try to rationalize what they are doing in the movies...you will go crazy.
-
I really didn't like Cheadle in IM2. Since I haven't heard anything about him coming back, I'm assuming he's out?
-
What is Tony Stark's plan? What are his goals? What exactly is the purpose of Iron Man? This is what we really need going forweard because IM2 was just a hodgepodge of bullshit and Iron Man being RE-active to an outside threat. He needs to start being PRO-active. Personally I think IM3 should start the seeds of Civil War. But it looks like they're just goign to do more suit-on-suit bullshit and waste all our time.
-
Wasn't Shane Black 'Hawkins' from Predator? He of the "girlfriend with the big pussy" constant jokes trying to get Billy to laugh? Critical thinking lapses indeed...my personal favorites are those deep thinkers calling everybody here "nerds" as if that's not the same exactly fucking thing as you wearing a red shirt in a room full of people wearing red shirts and then you, still wearing your red shirt, suddenly screaming "Look at all these fucking assholes wearing red shirts!!!". Hate yourself on your own time, Cybil.

Being sarcastic honestly i really look forward to Iron Man 3
-
A villian I only heard about during Iron Man 3 news.
-
You would see the rest of the pics, and it appears either the man wearing the armor is getting some sort of recognition at a military ceremony, or it is a presentation to the military of the armor as some sort of new weapon for their use. That brings up another issue. When people send these "spy" pics in to sites, I wish to all hell they would provide some sort of context for what was being filmed when they took the pics. One or two sentences from the spy would have cleared up what the hell we are actually seeing, and ended some of the wildly stupid leaps of logic being displayed here. Now I will admit I loved IM, hated IM 2 because it was a choppy, unwatchable mess, and hold out hope this sequel to redeem the series.
