Anthony Hopkins is in the perfect age bracket to join the cast of RED 2, which would explain why he's being sought after by director Dean Parisot for the villain in the action follow-up. According to Variety, Sir Anthony is in negotiations to join the film, but it's a matter of making the dates work with his schedule for THOR 2, where he'll be reprising his role as Odin in the Marvel Movie Universe.
If RED 2 doesn't interfere, then Hopkins would play "a genius, long thought dead, who creates a weapon of mass destruction called Nightshade. Bruce Willis, Helen Mirren and John Malkovich would be on the hunt for Nightshade and would need to break Hopkins out of the asylum to learn its whereabouts.
Hopkins would join Catherine Zeta-Jones and Byung-hun Lee as the new additions to the cast.
