Bring this on now please.

It didn't have the narration and the dialogue was entirely different. Did they shoot multiple versions and send them out randomly?

Still so epic and fresh

BUT I AM EXCITED FOR THIS AS HELL!

This is the online exclusive version. The one that played in front of The Dictator is different.

"mine as well make a sequel (s) to this. any movie with good charactors and the actors are still alive mine as well make tons of sequels. indy, star wars, ghostbusters, star trek etc. life is too short." What? I'm presuming that English probably isn't your first language.

I think what make Anchorman funny is that no one expected it to be funny

This one may fall flat. I hope I'm wrong.

Anchorman is the least funny of all the Ferrell/McKay collaborations

I'm gonna saddle up my wing-ed horse and ride it across the Valley of Eli, ignoring the roars of the dinosaurs, to the nearest theater. Whammy, indeed.
-
The characters were great--but they were given mostly unfunny stuff to do. The brawl scene was the most awkwardly directed scene that year. Plus Vince Vaughan brings every movie down a notch.
-
I feel like I just heard about this movie getting greenlit and now there is a trailer. I feel like the film could be out and ready to go by Christmas. So fast!

I see this as a good excuse to talk about our favorite comedies.
by BlaGyver
Top 10 anyone? Mine, in no particular order. 1. Animal House 2. Caddyshack 3. Airplane! 4. Anchorman 5. Forgetting Sarah Marshall 6. Ghostbusters 7. Stripes 8. Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story 9. The Blues Brothers 10. Wayne's World Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Dewey Cox are the only two that I'm sure people would disagree with. They're newer ones but still make me laugh like no other. Honorable mention: The Room. This is the only "so-bad-it's-good" camp I'm a member of.
-
Tough to narrow it down to 10, but here goes: 1. The Blues Brothers 2. Shakes the Clown 3. The Big Lebowski 4. Monty Python's Holy Grail 5. Friday 6. When Harry Met Sally 7. A Shot In the Dark 8. Talladega Nights 9. Vacation 10. A Christmas Story Crucify me, if you want, for Harry/Sally, but it's the only rom-com (with the possible exception of Annie Hall) that's worth a shit, IMO. If you're a certain age and married, that movie is one of the most dead-on comedies ever made. I'd also give honorable mention to Bill & Ted's, Wayne's World, Ghostbusters, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, any early Eddie Murphy, the first few Apatow movies.

It made Date Night an agonising watch too

Also, fun fact: my high school drama department went on a trip to New York City every year. 3 out of the 4 years, our guide throughout the city was a guy named Frank. Frank is in the movie for about five minutes. The scene in which they're playing....Pictionary? Charades? Yeah, that one, in the apartment, Frank plays Julian, the guy that Sally is dating at the time. He says that Meg Ryan was one of the sweetest actresses he's ever worked with. Frank also originated the role of the Dentist in the first Broadway production of Little Shop of Horrors.

Their stars shine a little brighter than Will Farrels now-a-days. This is about as unneccesary of a sequel as need be. They will never recapture what made Anchorman special because everyone is expecting it now. The only thing they can do is try to go over the top even more and I just can't see it working without leaving a "trying to hard" taste in your mouth.
-
I agree with Paul Rudd; he's definitely firing on all cylinders these days; but, Steve Carrell? He's been floundering for the better part of a decade. As for Will Ferrell, admittedly, he has had quite a slump for most of the past decade or so, but The Other Guys was a partial return to form, IMO. Sadly, the teasers for Anchorman 2 just don't seem funny at all. I'm afraid this is going to be another Ferrell flop. Shame.
-
Cuz gawd fuckin' DAMN those teasers are lame as fucking SHIT! I swear to fuck, the bewildering love of Anchorman is a defining moment in deciding the fate of the human fucking race. Outlook not so bright.
-
The only Will Ferrell movie were he acts like "Will Ferrell" I can stand is Elf. His other "Will Ferrell" movies I could do without. He was however brilliant in Stranger than Fiction, and I watched Everything must go last night and thought Ferrell was great in it. He's got some acting chops, but he hardly uses them. I guess he gotta eat.....
-
I'm sure there were some people who predicted the end of the human race with the popularity of something like the Three Stooges nearly a century ago, and yet, here we are. Comedy is one of those things where there's no accounting for taste. One man's hilarious is another man's retarded. So, lighten up man. You don't have to like it. Incidentally, what movies/comedians do you consider funny? Just curious.
-
I'm a fan of Will Farrell, but I will admit that most of his movies don't really require acting chops. Although I also liked Stranger Than Fiction and was surprised by the range of his performance in that one. Still haven't seen Everything Must Go, and I've been on the fence since the "serious turn by a comedic actor" thing often goes so far astray (see Adam Sandler's Punch Drunk Love or any drama from Jim Carey as examples). Is it anything like Stranger Than Fiction? I can't even seem to figure out from the trailers if it's a straight drama, a "dramedy" or simply a dark comedy.
-
1. Caddyshack 2. Blazing Saddles 3. Plane, Trains and Automobiles 4. Monty Python and the Holy Grail 5. The Naked Gun 6. Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me 7. The Big Lebowski 8. The Pink Panther Strikes Again 9. Irreversible 10. KingPin

Current Comedy directors would do well to study Caddyshack
by Joe Plumber
Just recently rewatched it on Blu-Ray in it's entirety for the first time in decades. Happy to say it still holds up, big time. Everything about this film is done right, from the working class backstory of Danny Noonan to the over the top caricatures that Ted Night and Rodney Dangerfield play to perfection, to the understated comedic performances of Chevy Chase and Bill Murray. Honorable mention to the cartoon antics of the animatronic gophers. Note to filmmakers, practical effect animatronic gophers can be WAY funnier than cgi gophers, at least in the context of this type of film.
-
is the greatest comedy ever made. Miles ahead of its time, and still vastly superior to any mockumentary anyone has attempted since. It is much funnier than When Harry Met Sally that's on some of these lists. Which of course is another Rob Reiner movie. "nooooo, we're not going to do fuckinnn Stonehenge!"
-
Damn, how did I miss that one? I'm one of the people who put Harry/Sally on my list, and while I would disagree that Spinal Tap is much funnier than Harry/Sally, I would agree that it's equally funny and should have been on my list.
-
Maybe now my top 10 list can go up to 11?
-
Caddyshack National Lampoon's Vacation Arthur Clerks Midnight Run Office Space Cannonball Run Porky's Trading Places Airplane!

by MST3KPIMP

Kudos for Cannonball Run. Actually I would put Smokey and the Bandit on my list before CR. Jackie Gleeson's Sheriff Buford T. Justice is a masterpiece!
-
Christopher Guest made an entire career out of ripping off Spinal Tap, which is ok since he is partly responsible for it.
-
Due to the legitimacy added by that announcer Makes it sound like a science channel documentary.

Favorite comedies, no order and probably not accurate, but what the hell.
by adeceasedfan
Fletch Polyester Christmas Vacation Anchorman Grosse Point Blank Best in Show Dodgeball 40 year old Virgin The Jerk Better off Dead
-
Guest may be have been ripping off Spinal Tap for the better part of his career, but he's not the only one along for the ride. Guest, McKean and Shearer have all been milking Spinal Tap and the mockumentary concept for the last 30 years, from A Mighty Wind and Best In Show to Tap albums, concerts, memorabilia, and God knows what else. Not that I blame them - if I'd created a gravy train like that, I'd be riding it, too.
-
Is easily #1 for me. The rest of my top 10 is in no particular order: Naked Gun South Park Galaxy Quest Anchorman Old School Dumb and Dumber The Jerk Ghostbusters Tommy Boy
-
...hell, without ANY Mel Brooks, are really, really surprising me...
-
in no particular order Blazzing Saddles Friday Theres something about Mary Anchorman Planes, Trains, and Automobiles Election Weird Science Pineapple express Step Brothers Superbad
-
I would add: Meatballs Stripes Office Space Stuck on You Clerks Groundhog Day Tommy Boy Vacation Neighbors The Burbs A couple of 80's goofball comedies I loved as a kid but haven't seen since then and might in fact suck: Zapped Up the Creek

It's bad, but I had fun with it. Heather Thomas was hot as fucking hell.

by Pvt. Duke
in that if it`s funny, great, but if it isn`t... well, fuck it because we were just being ironic. I like Burgundy, it`s one of the more rewatchable movies I have. But this post-Simpsons trend where everything has to be an ironic comment on everything that came before it... for fuck`s sake, just be funny.
-
Baseketball Blazing Saddles Anchorman Tommy Boy Caddyshack The Blues Brothers Freddy Got Fingered Death To Smoochy Half Baked Happy Gilmore

Life of Brian A Fish Called Wanda Young Frankenstein This is Spinal Tap Arsenic and Old Lace Harvey The Sure Thing National Lampoon's Animal House Airplane Gregory's Girl (This one because it's genuinely funny, but was filmed not so far away from where I lived and felt like a documentary about my life at the time)

Get a sense of humor and stop taking yourself so seriously. News flash - you DON'T have a more evolved sense of humor. You aren't smart. You're just pretentious and arrogant. There's a difference. I'll bet these people scoff at this, and then howl in laughter at Big Bang Theory. Fuck right off.

I'm just glad that people are starting to come out against Anchorman because for a year or two after it came out the forums were alive with jizz for it.
