‘What A Waste Of Magic!!’
Rolling Stone Mick Jagger Hosts Tonight’s 37th Season Finale Of SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE!!
They say tonight could be the last SNL for Kristin Wiig (cast member since 2005), Jason Sudeikis (2003) and/or Andy Samberg (2005). I bet Vanessa Bayer gets promoted to the regular cast this autumn.
68-year-old Sir Michael Philip Jagger is billed as musical guest as well as host, though Jeff Beck, Foo Fighters and Arcade Fire are all hanging around Studio 8H today as well.
My favorite bit from last week:
Did SNL stop being funny before or after this aired?:

I still love that guy. I'm still fine with Wiig and Samberg leaving [although I have enjoyed them both] but I will definitely miss Jason. ...and I don't see why Killam & Pharoah wouldn't be promoted along with "Bayer" at this point. Taran seems to be getting a lot of airtime and Jay seems indespensible because he's a black guy that does a wide range of impressions... and he's not Keenan... and he's not fat.

almost pizza was funny the first time it was shown, not the second, glad they didnt reshow the pub wig ad for the 8th time

He's a drain on ever skit he's in. There hasn't been a good firing in a while.
-
and there aren't enough places on the internet for me to voice my displeasure, I need a talkback to bitch on.
-
especially if the big 3 leaving is true. that's just a no brainer. His energy output is just ridiculous.

I've been watching since 92-ish, but when Hader leaves, I'm bolting.
by Shermdawg
After the recent string of atrocious musical guests, as well as Killam and Bayer, who I CAN NOT FUCKING STAND (especially Bayer), I think I'm out. I like Bobby, but he's not a good enough reason to keep watching, and Jay is rarely given the chance to branch out beyond his handful of tired impressions. And the new chick? Forgot her name. Who is easily the hottest cast member EVER has been dreadful in her spotlighted roles in recent weeks. I doubt she'll even be brought back after the reception she got from that Swedish Chelsea Lately sketch.

mainstream USA is so fucking boring it makes me just wish a comet would fly by and turn us into flesh eating zombies the literal sense of what we are now.

Its a sad indication of how unfunny SNL is when the wife and I get more laughs out of watching the 6 year olds "Disney sketch show" So Random. It hits the funny more frequently, and has more memorable characters. That being said, I still hate So random.

For a sketch show that's been around longer than most of y'all been alive cut some slack. Name one live show that's funny every week for over forty years?
by Cedric Ford
-
you are so right about So Random --I told my husband --you gotta see some of the skits on this show --they are so clever and witty. the one they have with Harry Potter in the real world is great! SNL is hit or miss ---that episode a few weeks ago with Manning hosting was just awful --but when Justin Timberlake is on SNL he does a pretty darn good job

Disney is so desperate they have to unleash interns on AICN?
by Xiphos_2
John Carter most have left a mark if they are that desperate.

Which time?

Besides, The Avengers picked up the check for John Carter's meal.

I'll really miss Wiig, she had great range and was easy on the eyes.
by happybunni
Samberg seems to be getting used less and less and less on the show, I think he's only really good for digital shorts which I don't even think are mainly his creations. Sudeikis plays the best straight man ever in many sketches. He'll be missed too. Really all of them were pretty good. I think it's the writing that fails this show, not the actors. Although the new cast hasn't really done anything for me.. The only thing I like is the Kardashians.

SNL is a network show that has to deal with the censor board. Trying to do edgy comedy in the you tube age is difficult to pull off every week.

Sorry, if we get to make opinions into facts, then yours is simply not correct. It's a great piece of comedy.

I could see Arcade Fire playing "Can't Always Get What You Want".

Desperation = Musical Based Sketches. And this show has already had 2 in 20 minutes.

Great performance.
-
That's what you get with a singer for a host
-
They were always a highlight, but with rumors of Sandberg's departure and they way he ended "Lazy Sunday 2" - it's an obvious bookend to them. Tis a sad day.
-
... because I don't find "Stefon" funny.
-
I don't think this is funny anymore. I thought it was very funny the first time when he may or may not have intentionally cracked up at the end. Now he cracks up at the beginning and doesn't stop. It's not funny. It is obviously intentional now.
-
I really think one was done a couple of years ago. If NBC puts out a Digital Short DVD, I'd buy that.
-
I agree that it's gotten tired, but the SNL writer responsible for it was on Conan (I think?) a while back and said that the whole point of the bit is basically for him to try to make Hader crack up. Hader doesn't actually see the script for it until he's reading the cue cards live. So yeah, it's intentional, but if you know what's going on it's a bit more entertaining than just Hader intentionally cracking.
-
Good to know. Sometimes I wonder how we would view the show if we had all of the behind the scenes info like what you just told me.
-
Come on cptrios, you gotta admit this one is horrid.

Who sang the opening song? The crowd was cheering as though it were someone important, but I didn't recognize him? Was it Sudakis?
by lox4444
-
Though there've been some good bits. Jagger looks like he's going to to stroke out at any moment, but you can't fault the guy's effort.
-
I'm sure that would go over very well if an American went to ANY other country and sang a blues song about their political process....not.

Why was she the only one who got the sendoff? Aren't a whole bunch of their folks leaving after tonight?
-
Has anyone in the history of the show had such an over-done under-deserved send-off?
-
Smart move. Her long form work is much better than the sketch stuff. Bummed about the potential loss of Digital Shorts. Was Sudeikis even there. Didn't really notice. Meh.
-
Not the best choice of tops, though.

I've never liked her, but low self esteem women seem to, so honestly cheers to her.
by lox4444
-
I remember the Will Ferrell send off was elaborate. Also, Jimmy Fallon & Tina Fey did that giant "Grease" parody song thing when he left
-
His send off was sweet and poignant - especially that last image of him hugging Chris Farley. Still eerie to this day as he sings "Good-bye."
-
May 20, 2012, 12:17 a.m. CST
Looking back on the Farley-Hartman sendoff skit, I want to cry. It was lame at the time, now beautiful that they're both dead.

A little weird the other departing members didn't get anything, but she really has been an important piece of the show. Sure, Samberg's first few digital shorts ushered in SNL into the YouTube era, but they have been pretty lazy over the last couple of years and he didn't add much else to the show beyond the shorts. Sedakis, while a really funny guy, only appeared in like one sketch per episode. I know there are a lot of Wiig haters (which I'll never fully understand) but she has carried this show for the last few years. She's truly a talent that can transcend far beyond SNL and comedic roles in general. And I would totally put it in her butt.
-
All the super sounds of the sixties Stones. And She's a Rainbow/Ruby Tuesday offered a perfect set of lyrics to help send one of SNL's biggest stars on her way. Yes, it's still on. And yes, it's still funny. See you all back here for season 38.
-
It wasn't crazy funny, but it made me laugh enough. And Jagger was game for anything. Hamm showed why he should be hosting as often as he'd available. And it was the first ep this season where I didn't fast-forward past the musical act. And wolfman nards, Sedeikis has been in a boatload of sketches over the years (last night being an exception where he was barely there).
-

One of their best of the season good to see Jagger go for it.
by SID 8.0
Great music too. Lazy Sunday 2 and Wiig's send off were cool. Jon Hamm is ready to take over from Baldwin and Martin. You could see how close Wiig and Sudekis are from their goodbye.

loved this episode!!!!! Best in a long time- loved Beck's performance- he is a guitar god!!!!!!!!!!

was the Best part of the show! Wiig will be missed. She and Maya Rudolph were two of the best cast members in the show's history.
-
...I hope I look that good and get around that well when I'm 68!
-
but I like Kristin Wiig, but would've liked some of the shows more if they had used her less and let other cast members get a little more face time. Pretty good episode with the highlight being ... the password parody with Wiig saying *We do this to get the part* 'audition' *Oh, there was a smudge on the C, it's Canal not Anal* There was also a 'vowel movement'! Didn't anyone find it funny when Stefon kinda/sorta referenced Harry when he mentioned *Furtle necks*, where fat guys have a beard on their chin roll!

Apparently zombie Gilda Radner is a member of Arcade Fire?
