Eli Roth Is Set To Direct Again For THE GREEN INFERNO!!
The Kidd here...
Coming out of Cannes, Eli Roth is set to return to the director's chair for the first time in five years, having locked up a deal for THE GREEN INFERNO. What is THE GREEN INFERNO exactly? Roth isn't saying, and he's keeping those details under wraps for the time being, but the horror film is set to start shooting this fall in Peru and Chile. But this would mark the first time he's been behind the camera for a full-length feature since HOSTEL II. Does this mean we're not getting THANKSGIVING anytime soon?

I thought this was a sequel to the Green Hornet
by KEVIN_COSTNERS_RECYCLED_PISS
...Or the Green Lantern.
-

that would at least explain the ludicrous title. nothing roth has done thusfar suggests hes anything but a b-movie hack.
by dahveed1972
-
...Or Tower Inferno's sequel.
-
I heard he was remaking the Tobe Hooper film THE FUNHOUSE, but, I guess, that fell through.
-
it would simply be titled "Inferno"
-
. . . but he seems to have pontential for something that I actually like. Something that involves REAL horror. That Thanksgiving trailer is bad ass . . .

Hold on! I think Quint was going to Cannes? Why is Quint going to Cannes and The Kidd reporting first from the Festival?

Seriously.

THE GREEN INFERNO is the name of the film-in-a-film in CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST. Way to miss the boat, Kidd.
by golden tribw
Eli Roth is a piece of shit, by the way. He almost single-handedly ruined Inglorious Bastards (no, I don't care how QT 'spells' it).
-
I'll believe this when I see something.
-
and that's saying something. it's typical roth torture porn bullshit. a group of kids travel to south america to shoot some KONY like video to stop deforestation and end up getting captured by a native tribe who are... you guessed it.. cannibals! the fact that they got someone to finance this is amazing. roth is a shucker and a jiver, i'll give him respect in that department.
-
Has anyone ever drawn your attention to the remarkable resemblance that caricature of yours holds to Kirk Baltz in that one episode of 24?
-
Quentin likes his blowjobs I guess, stubble and all.
-
. . . then I take back what I originally posted about Roth still having potential. And I totally agree w/ whoever commented on his being in Bastards. He was God awful and embarrassing to watch.
-
Wait a minute... Quint is in Cannes. The Kidd polishing his 17th TB of the week. Monty Christo in Dallas. Nordling is infected with the Prometheus score. Cpernicus is studying Marvel's dark energy. Nordling is waiting for the extended Director's Cut of John Carter on Blu Ray. Harry's not awake yet. Wild guess: I'd give it a day or two...
-
oh, i'm serious. there is, no joke, a scene in which the kids get the cannibal tribe high (i won't spoil how for you... it must be seen to be believed) in order to escape, but the tribespeople obviously get the munchies and eat one of the kids alive. i shit myself reading this thing.
-
This sounds EXACTLY like Eli Roth so I completely believe you. cabin Fever had SOME interesting qualities...but was almost entirely a bullshit patchwork of other films highlighted by disgusting immorality. Hostel was total trash with bad effects and, like cabin Fever, immoral central characters. I thought Hostel II worked better because it had better effects, more sympathetic victims and a more focused storyline.....but ultimately still bullshit I can barely remember and have no interest in ever seeing again.
-
And if it were on Broadway in the 1970s it would be titled "Inferno!" Try it with any title...shorten them a bit and add the exclamation point (jazz hands optional). Hannibal! Gringo! Jake! (Raging Bull...unless Chinatown beats them to the punch) Koyaanisqatsi! (okay, that one's a stretch)
-
what the fuck are you on about Wrath of Fett 'Immoral characters' do you ever watch horror films? Did you completely miss the point? Are you a fucking mormon or something?
-
I don't know if he's someone's nephew or what. It's certainly not because he has talent, this we all know. Cabin Fever made a splash because it reheated elements of classic film which teens of the time didn't know about, while at the same time "pushing the envelope" on gore and shitty characters. The idea of letting things go too far because you think others can handle it then it getting too late to help yourself is a good one used in many horror films and that's really the glue that holds Cabin Fever together. It also works because it feels like something, despite all the bizarre shit on display, could possibly happen. I thought there was enough onscreen that perhaps Eli could grow and become a passable horror director. He at least seemed to love the genre. Unfortunately, despite an EXCELLENT premise by The Big Red One, he focused on all the wrong areas and proved he really didn't know what the fuck he was doing. That film was successful based on the premise and the tits on display. Just being honest. Hostel II was unsuccessful because despite fixing some of the problems from the first film, it just felt like more of the same and most people had only gone to see the first one because of the intrigueing premise and the rumours about some of the more outlandish gore scenes, the eyeball for example. Since then he hasn't really done shit and we should all be thankful for that. Now it seems he's going right back to making the same mistakes he did before.

have no moral center. Useless hedonists: Let's go get drunk and laid! Hard to root for people like that. In The Shining you had moral characters...Wendy and Danny who were trapped in a hotel with a murderous husband/father.

by paul burnett
cos after these latest posts i'm betting on the horse.

Is a fucking spoof. I won't defend anything else Roth has done because it's derivative but Cabin Fever had wacky Lynchian characters, random mentalness, some slightly squeamish bits and as someone put it ( might have been AICN) has the hilarious premise of teen sex comedy characters ending up in a horror film. I can understand if people were a bit upset because they thought it was going to be some hardcore nasty-fest but I liked it for what it was, yeah Hostels were disappointing. I can't get behind 'derp, they had no morals' though. If you want that watch some french horror films, they love torturing people for no reason- oh you can't, too much reading.

The Kidd just posted Ari's info on Deadline's Sin City 2 release date.
by Franck
Coincidence? I think not.

Fuck the color green

Ok, good for him.

So every victim in a horror film should be beyond repute? That's no fun.

I'm guessing.

wendy and danny sympathetic characters? i hated those fuckers.

he has made some seriously shitty films and some I've never heard of!
-
White meat, dark meat, all will be served!
-
However the Hostel was a bit meh, so was 2, infact I saw 3 the other day and it was better than them put together. Other than than cabin fever and the Grindhouse trailer he's done nothing really good. OK he produced The Last Exorcism and 2001 Maniacs but that means shit. We'll just have to wait and see
-
"Yep, that's blood all right." "Son of a BITCH!"

If you've still got it... britgeekaicn@yahoo.com Thanks.

I've seen it elsewhere for the past 24 hours. Elijah looks creepier than hid Sin City role.
-
Its so delicious and informative.
-
I shall assume it is.

He rates CH as one of his favourite films ever. I am going to take a guess here and suggest it is a film about the making of with actors recreating the experience. The making of is almost as shocking as the film itself. All the main actors have disowned the film and Deodato was nearly jailed because people were convinced it was a snuff film. It is the most intense film ever made IMO. Never again will it be matched. Irreversible and Cannibal holocaust are simply two of the most pure films ever put to camera. Both have unmatched power to shock and question our morality. So convincing are they, that you forget you are watching a movie. Eli knows Deodato very well and anyone who has seen Hostel 2 knows he played the cannibal eating that poor bastard at the dinner table. I think it is a fair bet he and Deodato are writing this together.
-
If I hate the main character, how the fuck am I supposed to identify with him? If I can't identify with him, why do I give a shit what happens to him? If I don't care what happens to him, there's no tension. If there's no tension, there's no film.
-
afraid not, man. this is just another torture porn effort from eli. hostel in the jungles of south america with a cannibal tribe.
-
that is all

I must concur, Thanksgiving is all I want to see from Eli Roth at this point, unless he's the Jew Bear again!!!

shooting out my ass after too much Taco Bell. I wonder if this offering by Roth will be as entertaining.

For a guy who looks exactly like Spock, Eli Roth's choices in scripts are........highly illogical.
by Christian Sylvain
The best thing Roth ever worked on was that Thanksgiving trailer, and he didn't even follow up with the actual film. Hell, he even got a chance to adapt a sophisticated yet gory STEPHEN KING ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE NOVEL, but passed on it at the last minute. This dude needs to come forward and actually make a good film or quit.
-
. . . cause I've never seen it, will NEVER see it, and I HATE it with a passion. Guess I have to give its makers props for getting such a reaction from someone who's only read about the thing. Listening to people such as seth gecko up there talking about it in talk-backs just makes my blood boil.
-
How original. Fuck Eli Roth.
-
I've been tempted a couple of times, but hearing from several sources that a big portion of the running time is just torturing and killing animals (for real) put it firmly in the =no fuckin' way= column.

I like Cabin Fever a lot (and Thanksgiving trailer rocks, too) but more torture porn? I thought that shit was done with.
by Tall_Boy6t6
Please, Roth, do something Not Torture Porn-y. I see glimpses of something better.
-
I wonder if this will be a sci-fi, because he was working on one I know that. Maybe it will be a sci-fi/horror, like say 'Alien'...

Will this complete Hollywood's trilogy of unsuccessful Green movies?
by v3d
Green Lantern Green Hornet Green Inferno
-
...which was quite awesome actually. If the entire movie consisted of just that one scene, it would have been far more memorable as a whole. The rest? Hmmm....a dog right? And a blonde girl? Loud guys and a truck? Woods...I definitely remember woods. And a cave too I think? They should have cast Bana as the 'Bear Jew' in Basterds...I think the low angle filming of Roth is because he's actually only a little taller than midget. But I've never met the guy so maybe he's actually shorter than a midget.
-
CH is one of those 'never should have happened, and hopefully never will again' kinds of things. Between the advances in CG, the transparency of social media, and general notions of what's acceptable, I hope that something like CH would never be attempted again, or never be allowed if attempted.
-

Cabin Fever was Black Comedy at best. That being said, Awful Movie.
by Stalkeye
With a running gag (Involving the N-Word) that was beyond sophomoric and just plain stupid (kinda like Transfformers 2.) CH had it's moments like crazy ass Dennis and the scene in which some asswipe purs listerine on his Dick after screwing some chick who got infected by the flesh eating virus. Other than that, it was underperforming and Roth's Cinema Career should have ended right there.
-
I don't read Deadline.com. I bet a lot of people who come here don't. AICN's job is to put up things that they think their readers will find interesting. Sometimes they get their info from exclusives, sometimes from other websites, sometimes from industry rumors, etc. If everyone read every movie site (which apparently some of you super-cool guys do), then each story could only be reported once. That's not the way it works, you fucking retard geeks.
-
May 19, 2012, 12:08 a.m. CST
hey tjcool interesting fact- AICN still hasn't posted the trailer for The Lords Of Salem
by TheJudger
which now has 33,000 views on youtube, and unlike this horror remake. I know. I know it will be a horror masterpiece and an original film. I honestly am pretty damned bummed that aicn didn't post something about the trailer here, but hey that ship sailed, trust me. the film will find the audience and i have no doubt no doubt whatsoever that it surprise horror fans. this is rob step up from the devils rejects, just you watch... fuck do you see some of the red hues ans suspiira and kubrickian like es it has. I don/t want to compare, compare is to fail. I just want to believe that again the world underestimates robs ability to make entertaining films.

DON'T BELIEVE, THAT WILL MAKE THE WIN THAT MUCH BETTER.
