Strongly tipped as a film-maker to watch on the strength of his astonishing debut feature FRONTIER(S) and hard-hitting follow-up HITMAN, director Xavier Gens fulfils all expectations with his latest offering, THE DIVIDE, an intense post-apocalyptic shocker.
Starring Michael Biehn (THE ABYSS; ALIENS; THE TERMINATOR), Lauren German (HAWAII FIVE-O; HOSTEL: PART II), Rosanna Arquette (PULP FICTION), Milo Ventimiglia (WOLVERINE; HEROES), Courtney B. Vance (FINAL DESTINATION 5; FLASHFORWARD) and Ashton Holmes (NIKITA; THE PACIFIC), THE DIVIDE is terrifying from its opening sequence to its breathtaking and totally unexpected finale. It grips like a vice throughout and sees the ever-excellent Biehn delivering one of the most riveting performances of his career.

the DIVIDE was horrible- and I like bad apocalypse movies.

it wasn't bad because of gore or torture porn- there was really hardly any there. it was bad because there were no characters you could relate to..every single person acted on decisions no human being would make. every action makes you scream wtf?!?! you idiot!! the acting was contrived and strained, even from Michael Biehn- though he was the glue, he wasn't used enough to make us care too much about him. However he was the only character with any sympathetic note. the problem was with his canned gruff one liners. none of the freshness of Hicks, and all of the stale of someone playing 'grumpy old Vet'. it think the worst offense was how the passage of time was handled. i'm sure there are some that would argue that it was intentional to give the viewer the same uncertain sense of time that the people in the shelter had....only those people didn't even do anything like mark days on the wall or look at their watches. the 'rescue' came way too early it seems, and then the descent into madness, well, it's hard to say how long that took. people still had perfect hair and cleanliness until it started to fall out- then it went crazy and seemed like months had passed- until we find out that one character was still locked in a room without food or water. If that were true then what seemed likes weeks worth of anarchy was really a couple days.... i'd say watch it for yourself to try to figure out the time line, but it's really not worth the effort.
