There Are Babies To Be Punched In The New Trailer For THE CAMPAIGN!!
The Kidd here...
Earlier this week, we got a look at some campaign ads for the new Will Ferrell-Zach Galifianakis comedy THE CAMPAIGN about a couple of political idiots fighting for a House seat in North Carolina. Now Warner Bros. has released a full trailer for the film, and I think we're getting a much better look at how this win-at-all-costs duel between the two candidates is going to shake out.
Ferrell's movies are usually hit or miss for me, but there's something about the satire of watching the campaign process and seeing these two guys play off each other that has me optimistic that we're going to see something funny from THE CAMPAIGN later this summer.

@lambcamera Frank Caliendo does a better Dubya impression.

Actually look pretty funny in this. Some of their work lately has been lacking but I like the over-the-top political satire in this...just what I need to take my mind off of this never-ending election season.
-
Though, He doesn't quite match his body type. Ferrell is quite a bit better in that regard.
-
I'm FROM North Carolina. We just passed Amendment 1 This looks like King Lear compared t the real election campaigns we have around here!

How long do we have to wait until Will Ferrell just stops?

I'm pretty sure I've been watching the same Will Ferrell movie over and over for the past 10 years.

-
He'll stop eventually. Despite being occasionally funny (Which he is in this), People will begin to notice the same thing you do.
-
and I imagine I'd be tired of that Galifinakis voice after about 5 minutes
-
Other than that, 2 minutes of shit.
-
And everyone fucking loves that movie.

You couldn't pay me to watch a second trailer for this film
by Jaster Mareel
The only thing remotely interesting about it is that Ed Schultz shot several scenes for it.
-
That looks seriously funny. I'm looking forward to it.
-
Was not funny at all. I laughed at the donkey wiener licking comment though
-
This thing looks horrible.
-
that absolutely loves Will Ferrel in just about everything. Even loved Land of the Lost. The trailer isn't anything I haven't seen before, yet it had me laughing. That is all I need. So if you hate Will Ferrel movies and can't stand he keeps getting roles, blame folks like me. :)

Ferrell is more miss than hit for me but this looks good.

-
Not sure why there's so much backlash, there were some pretty funny bits in the trailer.

Or...I love Galifianakis and will watch him in anything and he looks particularly good in this.
by moonlightdrive
Looking forward to seeing it.

fawst- I agree, definitely some Anchorman vibe coming off this although
by moonlightdrive
try as I might I struggle to laugh at Anchorman and I really want to. I don't see it as deserving of the huge love for it.

ANCHORMAN is weird for me. I can sit through any Will Ferrell movie, but...
by MCVamp
...that one always loses interest for me about 30 minutes in. I can watch Semi-Pro for crissakes, and I can't get through Anchorman.
-

Against my better judgement, I actually find Will Ferrell funny.
by Ironhelix
However, this isn't doing it for me.
-
you just know it'll be hilarious! Hoping for Anchorman / Blades of Glory / Talledega Nights funny, not Kicking & Screaming / Semi-Pro tepid.
-

To me Blades of Glory = Semi Pro. Was there a difference?
by Tikidonkeypunch
-
I laughed at some of that. What the heck?
-
I'm in.

Zach is doing a riff on his brother character Seth Galifianakis from his Live at the Purple Onion.
by adeceasedfan
At least it sounds that way to me.

North Carolina still approves this movie. If just for the Pentecostal snake handling bit.
by adeceasedfan
Funny.
-
...but less about my bladder control, this looks funny as hell, cant wait!
-
Not as intelligent as Bullworth, but it's not trying to be intelligent. It looks like a goofy, idiotic, and hilarious movie.

I woulda liked it better with John C. Reily instead of Galifianakis
by Jet Jaguar

makes his movie debut!
-
That's sad, not funny. I've seen stand up where baby punching is mentioned in jest, but to actually play it out on screen is too far. Incorporating violence into comedy is a tight rope. If this movie had the same sense of surreal ludicrousness that Achorman had, then it might have been acceptable, but this is not okay.
-
That character kills me every time.
-
Violence being introduced into comedy is a tightrope?? When has violence NOT been a staple of comedy? Name a comedy that doesn't have any violence.
-
yes, slapstick is all good and fun and has been around for centuries, but there has always been a threshold for what type of violence an audience will actually find funny. The Farley brothers famously had to cgi-cover up blood from Lauren Holly's face in a scene where Jeff Daniels hit her with a snowball, because test audiences suddenly stopped laughing as soon as they saw that she actually drew blood. Personally, seeing Will Ferrel punch a baby crosses that line from funny slapstick to something that is actually a kinda tragic.
-
That will go over fine for anyone without kids and a slightly dark/warped sense of humor. The thing about the joke is it just beings to mind child abuse.....and horrible stories of actual babies either being shaken or traumatized in some way by some fucking asshole. I guess that's where my line is, but I'd think others may agree....but whatever. That aside - everything up to there I thought was funny.
-
That 'politician punching a baby' gag has been around for a long time (even longer than Zack's portrayal of his lisping gay doppelganger). And it doesn't seem like a literal translation has made it any fresher or funnier. Will Ferrell screaming mad-libbed curse words to get a PG-13? Check. Dumbed-down sex-and-slapstick jokes aimed at the most moronic 14-year-old boys? Check. The Apatowian random pop-culture references that feel like failed coked-up improvs? Check. Jay Roach's amazing ability to suck all the 'funny' out of everything he touches? Check.
-
but this looks horrible. Not funny, clever, or anything resembling interesting. Laugh at this and prove you're a Republican.
-
I wasn't making the comparison between this and that as any kind of defense. I was condemning both movies. Parts of that trailer made me laugh just like parts of Anchorman, but overall? Meh.
-
There were a few special moments that got to me. I thought I would hate the trailer... I hope they didn't just ruin the only good parts of the film.
