These PROMETHEUS Photos Bring Us Numerous Headhsots And An Awesome, Tightly Space Suited Theron Ass!!
OK.
Before y'all jump my shit for being immature and objectifying women and whatever...take a look at these photos and tell me they weren't intended to make Charlize Theron look fetishistically hot as hell in a form fitting space suit. We've seen these suits already in various trailers for the film...but we've yet to see 'em filled quite like this.

Obviously, these come from PROMETHEUS...for which EW has a new gallery of promo shots...mostly character pics...HERE.
Theron not withstanding, I love the look of these suits. They seem to exist somewhere between modern sports garb and classic pulp covers like this these...
...a retro homage that any trueblood Geek would be hard pressed to resist.
PROMETHEUS opens for overseas bastards beginning the end of this month, and will arrive in the States June 8.

These spacesuits look more 'futuristic' than the more 'normal'-looking, chunky, astronaut-ish suits seen in Alien, but this film is set before Alien...

It's amazing how much of the original Alien was lifted directly from that movie.

there is a STRONG EC comics/pulp, and planet of the Vampires vibe wafting off this. not a bad thing, Ridley is old enough to have lived through it the first time- let him play.

This has been the year of ass disappointment. I'm probably just spoiled by round porn ass, but I'm saddened by the flatness of Anne Hathaway in her CatWoman costume, Kate Beckinsale in the Total Recall trailer And now, Charlize Theron. All these ass shots are like touted as "Hey fellas, take a look at this!" Then they show me some angular, flat booties. Hollywood's failure is now complete.

movies are actually becoming quite crowd-pleasingly sexualised lately. Lots of gratuitous ass and tits etc, even in otherwise "serious" material. I kind of feel weird about it actually, like they're treating us like animals.
-
Nice ass.
-
realistic action, movements and speech in mainstream movies are being tossed and choreographed to be their most sexual. i'm not a puritan or prude by any means, but it's insulting to my intelligence. although i think it's the posters and promo art that are worse than the stuff in the actual movie, in most cases. but you'd be hard pressed to find a poster for anything where an action woman doesn't have her ass turned to the viewer, as if to keep a submissive and 'presenting' (as in monkey ass) quality to the otherwise 'tough chick'. am i beginning to sound like genderblender?

Not sure why the hell it would hurt piracy to do that, instead of opening everywhere the same date. Avengers was online a week before it released in the states because of this. Anyway it's bullcrap, stop it!

And although "Alien Resurrection" sucked balls, it did feature the gloriously round posterior of Kim Flowers. Hell yes, you remember that scene. I know you do.

The fake blonde hair just might keep this from being a 5 star classic, but otherwise this looks to be the seasons best, but... The original Alien was blissfully hipster free (which is part of what makes it great). This one, unfortunately has whiffs of that MTV idiot-snark that is basically destroying civilization.

All I could think after seeing these yesterday (aside from how nice Theron's rear looked) is that these outfits look EXACTLY like discarded Spider-Man costumes!

Apparently, in its blind quest to build whirlwind levels of consumer awareness by releasing photos and new footage and trailers and trailers-for-new-trailers almost daily at this point, Fox doesn’t care if it gives away the store before the movie comes out on June 8th. Seriously, Fox has been showing way too much for this. I’ve been avoiding all coverage for about three weeks. I don’t know about you guys but I want to be spellbound and thrilled when I plant my ass in that rollercoaster seat.

Uh, yeah, I'm with rev_skarekroe on this one; ALIEN was a direct "homage" to PLANET OF THE VAMPIRES and PROMETHEUS's spacesuits are pretty much a modernized lift of the spacesuits from that movie. In fact, if you want to educate yourself on exactly HOW much Scott has repeatedly lifted from PLANET OF THE VAMPIRES, here's a link to some pictures that will convince you: http://www.google.com/search?q=planet+of+the+vampires+alien&hl=en&client=safari&rls=en&prmd=imvns&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=GDmtT-uzMIOg8gSqs6D5DA&ved=0CF8QsAQ&biw=1037&bih=690

I used to mix her up with Ashley Judd. But obviously one has more shelf life. Love the retro look too. I used to read (and still have) pulp sci fi comic books. Guess i know what I'm digging out before this opens.

-
That was when I first saw her and she was smokin hot!!
-
........but the ass is kinda flat.

I understand why the suits are more streemlined and "modern" looking than the ones inAlien. I can accept that audiences need a more modern aesthetic and I can accept that these are high-tec suits for scientists. Top of the line stuff that a bunch of space miners wouldn't have access too. I also accept that they look pretty much like suits will look 80 years in the future, probably sooner. My only problem is that the original design made humans feel vulnerable. We only had slightly shabby tech between us and the horrors of the vacuum. That aesthetic played well with the atmosphere of the Alien films. These suits look cool and accurate but I'm not sure they make me feel worried for the safety of those wearing them.
-
Yes you guys are correct. Not only that but check out the old movie . It Terror from Outter Space. A L I E N is both of those movies combined. ITFOS is the same EXACT story. Weird Monster hiding in a space ship killing off people and they have to kill it or get it off the ship. Why are there not any Vampires in POTV??!! LOL

ALIEN, AN HOMAGE TO PLANET OF THE VAMPIRES?? UH, OKAY. CAN I HIT THAT?
by Astronut
Except for a lage skeleton, a foggy alien planet with some craggy rocks and the fact that it is set in space with a crew, I see no similarities. It's almost like saying Iron Man is a rip-off of Batman because he's a millionaire playboy/superhero. You're reaching, it's just not true.
-
...but that ass, in that shot, is nothing to write home about. Maybe it's the suit, but I like a thick ass, not pancake butt.
-
May 11, 2012, 12:15 p.m. CST
The characters in Alien were basically truckers in space (Stanton even wears a ball cap throughout)...so there suits would be workmanlike.
by openthepodbaydoorshal
Aren't these characters scientists and doctors and sych?
-
Um. That was 12 years ago, dude. Yeah, I was a fan but judging by the latest pics, dat ass is flat now. Sorry.
-
generic as hell. They could be used in anything from Red Planet and Lost in space through to the fantastic 4 movie.Ridley really seems to have abandoned his Metal Hurlant/Heavy Metal vibe for this. The pre- fabbed plastic look is evident in the detail and textureless looking space _Jockey recreation as well.It looks more like a Paul Veerhoven movie than the guy who gave us BladeRunner
-
You'd better EARN that hard R, Scott.

Anybody questioning the "the gear in this looks better but the movie occurs before Alien?"
by Darth Macchio
Please take note of the shipping boats and trucks used extensively every single day and then take notice of a government endeavor with it's unlimited budget and ordered discipline and the gear they have and use. That's your answer as to why a movie that occurs before Alien has the crew and ship outfitted with nicer looking equipment. It could even be justified as to why they had crappy text only screens and only a few gui's screens in Alien as opposed to what the crew of the Prometheus will have which is likely advanced, state of the art, no expenses spared equipment, as it would be if a government/corporate/military joint-venture went into space compared to a shipping company sending a bunch of roughnecks in a beat up old tug out to space. Hell..the Nostromo tug in Alien could be older than the Prometheus by many decades for all we know. Have you ever seen a non-new but spotlessly clean dump truck? Have you ever seen an old and nasty dirty, grime-encrusted but still in use military vehicle?
-
I lived under a rock for about 30 years of my life, consequently I have never seen any of the Alien movies. Should I see them first or go into prometheus untainted, as it were, Thoughts?
-
you should see Alien as fast as humanly possible, regardless of whether you want to see Prometheus.
-
can she act? the trailers for Promeat-me-us haven't really answered this for me.
-
May 11, 2012, 12:42 p.m. CST
I completely disagree with the love for the design of this movie
by Monroville
I understand that they have better stuff (and stuff that is better taken care of), but other than the windows on the front of the Prometheus NONE of this stuff looks like it is from the same universe. It's kinda like ENTERPRISE, where everything looks like it is from NEXT GENERATION even though it takes place BEFORE the original show (not that it had to go hard 1960's, but you have to have some element of continuity).
-
And when you do, kill the lights and get the sound up on it. Few things in life are more satisfying. Just watched it for probably the 62nd time last night. No joke. I am STILL seeing things I didn't notice before. STILL!!!!
-
This is still a 100% Company endeavor, so they're not going to want to do something that is going to get the attention of the US government, much less those of the entire world. Remember that the Company is still in it for the money, not the profitless "good of humanity" (unless Ridley has dropped that subplot too). Even with "better" equipment, there would still be some element of similarity in design if for no other reason than to establish a definite link between this and the movie that follows it.
-
Well now! I have to say that Charlize Theron is looking mighty nice in the "Prometheus" space suit! Which I like...a lot!! :) As far as anyone claiming these pics "objectify" her or women in general? That's a lot of pure Horseshit....these photos are obviously stills for promotional release to generate even more interest in seeing the film. I have to say what with the way Scarlet Johansen and Cobie Smulders looked in their S.H.I.E.L.D agent uniforms (especially when Scarlet had her back to the camera during the interrogation of Loki) and now the photos of Charlize AND Anne Hathaway as Catwoman in the upcoming Dark Knight film? The summer films of 2012 are loooking VERY nice indeed! :)
-
If the object for the studio is to lose money by making a movie UNAPPEALING to today's ticket buying mainstream, then yeah, the new film being released in 2012 should look gritty and dated just like ALIEN from 1979! Come on, exercise some common sense here... NO ONE IN THEIR RIGHT MIND IS GONNA MAKE AND RELEASE A DAMN MOVIE BUDGETED AT $200+ MILLION IN 2012 THAT LOOKS LIKE ONE FROM 1979. IT JUST AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN. IF YOU THINK THAT, YOU REALLY DON'T HAVE A GOOD GRASP OF REALITY. And I say this as a genuine fan of ALIEN, which I have watched and loved 60+ times since its original run in theaters. I'm just being realistic.

I have to admit though, sometimes at certain angles, thanks to her great performance, when I see Charlize... all I can think is Aileen Wuornos. YIPEs!!

Has nothing to do with consistency or story canon. It's how it's going to be.
-
Nice um, suit. She look like she's ready to take on both the Reapers and the Collectors.
-
You people that think to many spoilers are being put out. Do you think Ridley is an IDIOT??!! There is SOOO MUCH that is not being told to us about what this movie really is! You could memorize every bit of info put out so far and still not know what the hell is going to happen in this movie! There is NO WAY anyone can even come close to guessing what is going to happen in this movie no matter if you are watching the previews or not. Trust me, watch all this shit and read all of it. You still will be freaked out and shocked at what happens dont worry!!!
-
Seems like she's been making movies forever. She's like J-Lo that way.
-
That'll be why the Feminist Movement wanted the vote.....(continuing, flippantly - the_cellarrat - do we need to hear from Harry about 'the bush' ?) Merrick, or whatever, you're called....yep, yep, yep...Charlize 'is' 'aesthetically pleasing'. I'm with you. But, mate/dude/squire (delete as applicable), c'mon....grow up....yep, sure her 'arse' (sorry - must bastardise English) - 'ass'....looks (ahemmm) 'good'....but if YOU are involved in 'film' - per se, and I mean 'interested in'(film) - then can't we get something relevant to Prometheus, the film, rather than Theron's arse? I mean, I'm happy to have a bloody good look at FHM, but maybe you should get a 'transfer' to that kind of pseudo-journalisitic mag (??!!). Just a thought.
-
....like a semenal Texan Oil-gusher...yep, Theron, Johansson, Abbie Cornish, Alba..whatever...yep they're all fit....sure...but isn't this allegedly supposed to be about films, and not a soft-porno mentality? Really? Really? Is everbody 11 years old???????????????????????

Haven't been this psyched to see a movie in a long time...
by Darth Macchio
Sure, it doesn't matter to anybody but me but holy shit am I hella-psyched to see this! (and not just because Charlize Theron is a super-hottie). I'm psyched to see lots of stuff but I haven't been this excited to see a movie in the theater for a very long time. Lord of the Rings long time, in fact.
-
Just the fact that they are exploring an old creepy old derelict ship on a strange planet and the BIG skeleton thing. Couple that with the other movie i mentioned IT TERROR and you have a close similarity to ALIEN........
-
WATCH ALL THE ALIEN SHIT YOU CAN FIRST!!!!!
-
Anyone who is saying that probably never got laid!! To complain about her ass is pretty much admitting you are GAY! WTF, this place can complain about the best of things christ. Her ass is flat, your fukin brain is fukin flat! You only wish you could tag that shit, or anything that even looks close to that. Truth is, most of you will just have to settle for that drunk fat chick at the end of the night, and thats if your lucky! She is fukin hot as shit in those pics, and you know you would have your fukin tongue up that ass in a sec if you could!!!
-
Yeah, cheers. I actually didn't know we were getting it first so that is a plus. I really am ramped to see this. Ticking off the days.....
-
I mean, aside from the obvious fact that they wanted them to be tighter.
-
Not only is it true (you clearly haven't actually sat down and watched PLANET OF THE VAMPIRES, or realized that this has been a standing accusation since about 1979, when ALIEN was released theatrically, or, most importantly, read my post all the way through and understood the point was, Ridley Scott ripped off PLANET OF THE VAMPIRES's AESTHETICS, not the entire plot), but PROMETHEUS appears to have gone even further with the lift. To put it in your terms: the complaint would be like accusing "Iron Man" of ripping off "Batman" because the Iron Man costume happens to be black, sports a bat-wing cape and a big yellow/black fucking bat symbol on its chest.

Alien is the original, more horror and dread inducing. Aliens is the sequel which combines the sci-fi/horror of Alien with action. I'm sure a bunch of people will come in here and tell you to skip Aliens. Lately there has been a huge backlash against Aliens. People seem to hate it now because it isn't pure horror like the original Alien, and because Aliens was written and directed by James Cameron. All I can say is you'd be doing yourself a disservice by listening to these haters of Cameron's sequel to Ridley Scott's original Alien. Aliens is on of the best sequels ever made, and IMO one of the few sequels to equal the greatness of the film that came before. Alien 3 is the one that really divided fans, and still does. It isn't bad, but it also doesn't reach the heights of the first two. I'd recommend watching Alien and Aliens. If you really love both of those, then at least give Alien 3 a look as part three finishes out the trilogy (although technically Aliens could work as the endpoint). All the sequels after Alien 3 are less necessary, especially the two AvP films. If you get through all of the first three Alien films, and if you ended up enjoying Alien 3, then give Alien Resurrection a shot. It is the oddest of the lot, but some Alien fans like it. The order of the Alien films in terms of continuity: AvP AvP: Requiem Prometheus A L I E N ALIENS ALIEN 3 ALIEN Resurrection If you want to get the most out of Prometheus, then I'd say watch the Alien saga in the order that the films were released in: Alien (1979) Aliens (1986) Alien 3 (1992) Alien Resurrection (1997) This is also the order of continuity through the Alien saga. It is a linear story, with Prometheus a prequel taking place before the four Alien films. Definitely see the first two, Alien and Aliens. You won't be missing much by skipping both AvP films.
-
Not saying I wouldn't hit that, but, there is no ass in those pics.
-
In college I wrote a massive paper about the various sources which influenced ALIEN. I understand why and how most of the connections are overlooked by many, but one title which constantly surprises me immensely (as it was was so close to ALIEN in time) was John Carpenter's DARK STAR. Scruffy space crew...somewhat beholdin' to someone else's plan/agenda...life form running around on ship...written by ALIEN's Dan O'Bannon... There's a rather nice region free Blu-ray of DARK STAR available, by the way...not officially released here in the States yet but it played wonderfully in my PS3...

So people who actually want a women's ass to have shape and curves are gay and the men who like flat, shapeless ass are the real men? That makes no fucking sense.

It drops off. it is flat. Now. I can't vouch for what you have seen or what you have not seen in this world, but your statements lead me to believe you have not seen a nice, rounded ass, with a curve to it. Is the design a conscious decision on their part to represent some kind of human societal loss of innocence after the events of THIS film, leading to a more bleak look and feel in later years, design-wise? So that by the time Alien happens, generally, design (everywhere) reflects a more industrial, bland, less colorful overall look/feel? So, as a result of this observation, they made these designs consciously more colorful and whimsical? Hmm.. If that's done on purpose, very cool. A lot of people, like myself for instance, like to dream of a time when we have all the answers*, know where we came from (to such a degree that the question itself would seem beyond naive, even more so than it does now) and are 100% sure that we are not alone in the universe(s) with a capital U. We like to think that at that point, we would have harmony, peace, a sense of belonging, brotherhood. All good things. But what if there are other reactions? What if there is a kind of general, almost post-coital depression in society? We've blown our intellectual loads and , well, here we are!!......... pause......... *sigh*. Blah. *Obviously, pretty impossible, but I think you know what I mean.
-
You speak the truth, Or write it. There has been a backlash. I would go so far as to say that Aliens was a turning point for sequels in general. I think we can look as sequels in terms of pre and post Aliens. Pre- Aliens being of general lower quality, post- Aliens being of higher quality and more positive expectations.
-
May 11, 2012, 4:32 p.m. CST

Oh, no, decades worth of pulp sci-fi and Fifties'-era sci-fi movies informed Bava on PLANET OF THE VAMPIRES for sure. I'm just amazed at how much of a lift, stylistically, PROMETHEUS is turning out to be (even more than ALIEN was).

Hating on ALIENS is actually a thing?!? If the reason is, as somebody pointed out above, because ALIENS was more of an action flick than a horror flick, I have some very bad news for all of you who seem to somehow believe PROMETHEUS will end up being ALIEN with more money and CGI-assistance ...

The ass is not flat per se, but it isnt nice and plump and round. it's aight. and im not gay. i love big asses as much as the next guy. but it isnt to my liking. Scarlett Johanson in the avengers had a phat juicy ass... that's the type i like!!!!

The suit looks... okay. Better under color correction.
by Dr_PepperSpray
Also she has the ass of a woman her age, and it isn't bad. Not everyone can have a ass big enough to rest a champagne glass on, and you can't be 20 forever.
I hate to bring up the old stereotype, but at some point you gotta wonder if some of you guys have ever actually seen a woman before.
-
Hell yeah, that's what im talking about!!!
-
IT LOOKS LIKE A FLAT PANCAKE WITH A LINE IN THE MIDDLE!!!
-
The space/atmosphere suit compresses her curves - so she looks less curvaceous than she actually is. The suit would probably make J-Lo's derriere look one dimensional. As evidence of Charlize's curves one has to look no further than her nakedness in the Devil's Advocate...she was pretty freakin' hot (minus Satan's claw marks of course)... Anyway, it takes all kinds of women to make up this world, and as a guy, I can find something to appreciate in most of them. Charlize has almost always taken raised the tent pole for me...well, except for roles like Monster where she wears crooked teeth prosthetics, flannel shirts, and gains 50 pounds.

There is way too much nitpicking here...if Charlize sat on my lap I guarantee you an insta-boner....no way am I turning that statuesque blonde down... As far as the mysterious mound of loveliness up front...one can only guess what lies beneath and sigh with wonder...

Actually.. I think you find those space suits are more Science than Fiction.
by tailhook
I know there was a lady at NASA working on form fitting space suits as the next-generation of NASA suit using specialized material including a similar style of piping or something. The piping is to provide the pressurization of the suit or something. It was in one of those semi-docs from Discovery Channel or National Geographic on the feasibility of going to Mars. Its too bad Obama defunded NASA in favor of payoffs to his cronies, eh? All while sticking his head in the sand and running trillion-dollar deficits and imagining the problem will magically fix itself as we merrily glide along to a full default on all debts.

Her ass does, indeed, look great in these photos. I am wondering if the suit, other than looking both high tech and retro as the aforementioned references point out, was influenced by current designs for next generation spacesuits, where the tightly fitting materials are able to generate the 1 atmosphere pressure necessary for survival. And if you look in the trailer there's a very vein-covered looking monster at one point. So whatever the (probably Theron) crewmember monster they morph into, that's the one.

The suits look like the work of scifi painter Jim Burns.
by Bedknobs and Boomsticks
-
Looks nothing like the original and will suck ass. I don't know why people think this will be a good idea. Ridley Scott has sucked a nut lately.
-
I see the Jim Burns style too. Good call on that one. Jim Burns is awesome. I think science fiction cinema concept artists, creature designers, and production designers have probably been secretly ripping off Jim Burns for the past thirty years. He'll probably never get credit like Giger or Syd Mead do, as Jim Burns will probably never be asked to officially work on any new films (I think he did a little work on Blade Runner). That inspired mentality of getting great fine artists and cutting edge conceptual artists and illustrators to help design on sci-fi/fantasy/horror films is seemingly a dead art (unlike the 70's and 80's where you had films like Star Wars, Alien, Jodorowsky's abandoned Dune, Blade Runner, Aliens, etc... all being bold and bringing in non-Hollywood concept artists to add a uniqueness to design-heavy films).
-
and my interest is at an all time high. I just hope that when it comes to it all, the film can live up to what we all expect from it and the big reveal doesn't make us roll our eyes because its ham-fisted and dopey.
-
May 12, 2012, 11:21 a.m. CST
So some of the females have orange lines on their suits...
by John C. Croker
...to accentuate their natural curves. Also less plating on the suit for apparently similar reasons.
-
The suits in Alien are from a mining ship. They work in rough terrain. When they go down on the surface of the planet in Alien, it is a huge duststorm, with debris flying everywhere. A thin suit would offer less protection in that climate. As well, they would wear those spacesuits when working on the outside of the ship in space. In Prometheus, the humans are on an Earth-type planet. It looks like a paradise. they wouldn't need bulky space suits to walk around in. They would just need protection to breath and prevent them from catching a virus. So far, we have only seen these 'spacesuits' worn on the surface of the planet, and there has been nothing to suggest that these suits are worn in actual space. If they are worn in space, I wouldn't be surprised if bulkier parts were worn with them for added protection.
-
She got a big ass... AND YOU GOT YOUR HEAD RIIIIGHT UP IT!!!
-
That's what I think too. It makes sense, even if the film doesn't go to the trouble explaining it (which I doubt they will). There is a shot in the second Prometheus trailer that shows a dude in a much bulkier space suit walking out of the cargo bay of the Prometheus. Later in the trailer I thought I also saw some heavy duty looking space suits (when Noomi is stumbling along the corridor). Also, in Alien they walked to the derelict, while in Prometheus the exploration team rides to that big Giger pyramid in those all-terrain RT01 vehicles. So add that up with the variations between the two different atmospheres, and it makes sense as to why the suits could look different. I think it could be that maybe the scientist types in Prometheus have more confidence in their state of the art gear, while the space truckers of the Nostromo are more cautious, and perhaps a bit superstitious about being out in non-Earth like environments.

For all we know the Colonial Marines have power armor and battle mechs
by lv_426
The Sulaco was probably not the biggest or top of the line military starship of the time (maybe it is an older model like the Battlestar Galactica was in that show?). It had a squad of marines, two dropships, and an APC, plus a few power loaders. This is fine from a narrative logic viewpoint because the mission was a search and rescue operation. The brass figured they didn't need a whole mega-cruiser with hundreds of marines and mechanized infantry. Of course, Weyland-Yutani didn't tell them what they really might be up against (Lt. Gorman told the marines to review Ripley's report only AFTER they were already nearly to Acheron). It is possible that the marines on the Sulaco were sent because they weren't exactly the best bulbs in the Corp (in the Aliens treatment, Vasquez and Drake were noted as being juvenile delinquents conscripted into the marines and trained to operate the high tech smart guns). So with all these films: Alien, Aliens, and Prometheus, I think it is fine that some of the tech differs a little as long as it isn't jarringly inaccurate and as long as it fits the narrative. Alien gave us blue collar space truckers. Aliens used a Vietnam motif with space marines up against a primitive but deadly enemy. Now Prometheus seems to be playing with the cool retro tradition of intrepid explorers venturing to uncharted worlds, but also mixing in some cutting edge utilitarian but futuristic design styles.

PEOPLE - The suits in ALIEN were heavy industrial suits with heavy armour designed for harsh off-world mining. These suits are totally different because the mission is different and the planet is different.
by MENTALDOMINANCE
My favorite part of ALIEN is the beginning on the planet. There has never been a more alien and harsh world depicted. There are no scenes I have seen yet of PROMETHEUS that show anywhere near that hostile of a planet... Yeah, there's a storm - but the planet is sunny and friendly looking. It's totally different. Obviously, the planet they go to in PROMETHEUS is not as harsh so they don't need armored mining suits to traverse it. ALIEN's gear doesn't look out of place at all. I'd expect any off-world mining ship to look like the Nostromo and have the same gear.
