See Ray Liotta Get What's Coming To Him In A Clip From KILLING THEM SOFTLY!
Nordling here.
I just saw that trailer for GANGSTER SQUAD, and honestly, it looked to be all flash with little substance. And then I saw 42 seconds of Andrew Dominik's KILLING THEM SOFTLY (formerly COGAN'S TRADE) that convinced me that this one might be the tougher gangster movie. Ray Liotta looks to cross Sam Shepard in a bad way, and I love the camera work in this clip - just graceful and lets our minds fill in the gaps.
KILLING THEM SOFTLY opens September 21, and I seriously can't wait. Brad Pitt returning to the director of THE ASSASSINATION OF JESSE JAMES BY THE COWARD ROBERT FORD? I'm ready. Thanks to The Playlist for the clip.

I think both this kind of realistic crime film and Gangster Squad can coexist nicely

This will be one the great films of the year. Too bad they went w/ a different title.

COGAN'S TRADE sounds tougher and just more interesting.

Looks like a return to form for the guy. Loved Chopper but also count TAOJJBTCRF as a personal favorite. Very Malickesque and I likes me Malick.
-
Loved that movie. Gorgeous cinematography, Terrence Malick kind of pacing. A truly transcendent Western. It's more of a character study than a Western, really. I love gangster films, and this looks like a cut above most. Really looking forward to this one.
-
Ha! We both mentioned Malick. If you're a good looking chick I want to fuck you.
-
Because that played like an episode of the Supranos for me, and not one of the better episodes either. Nothing special AT ALL. Not sure why you think this is going to be better than GS because of this clip.
-
They're supposed to cut to the interior but they totally don't. That's like, breaking the rules man.

He passed away on Monday. Just thought this website would want to know.

"The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford" was the best movie that came out that year, and might even be one of the best of the last 10 years. A lot of that had to do with Roger Deakins, though. It is, without a doubt, the best cinematography of the last 10 years. Have to agree with the new title, though. Horrible. Only slightly worse than the previous title, which kept making me think this was a remake of "Coogan's Bluff."
-
LMFAO!!!! Sorry dude I don't roll that way. Lol
-
So you're not a good looking chick!? That's too bad. I have such a hard time find pretty women who like Malick films. Oh well, it was worth a try. But you're so right, Jesse James really seemed like a Malick film to me, but with a more cohesive narrative. Still, the directorial style was fabulous.

Going to get a lot of Flack for that title change.
by Roman Troy Moronie
Just sayin'.

Cogan's Trade is a brilliant title. Killing Them Softly sounds like a straight to video thing.
-
Roberta Flack, if I'm not mistaken.
-
The door and the window crash is very cool. The pan to the back door is lame. Made me think of high school film. They should have at LEAST made the dialogue louder and added some more crashing. Mehhh.

So what's gonna be better? This, Gangster Squad, or Lawless?

Wow, that's just how Flesh Gordon and I entered Harry's house last time I was in Austin!
by The Reluctant Austinite
Harry had the same reaction.
-
Brad Pitt, Ray Liotta, AND Vinnie Delpino...I'm there!
