The Kidd here...
Alright, South Florida geeks... this is something you're definitely going to want to take advantage since it's not every day we get something like this being put together in our neck of the woods.
Starting this Thursday, May 10th, and going until Sunday, May 13 (Mother's Day), the O Cinema - 90 NW 29th Street, Miami - is having what they're billing as Comic Book Movie Weekend. Now what does that entail? Multiple showings of the Morgan Spurlock documentary COMIC-CON EPISODE IV: A FAN'S HOPE, multiple showings of the documentary WITH GREAT POWER: THE STAN LEE STORY and late night showings of SUPERMAN II: THE DONNER CUT (Friday night, as introduced by yours truly), Tim Burton's BATMAN (Saturday night, with the Batmobile out on the premises) and the 1990 live-action TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES (Sunday night). You wanted cool stuff to come to South Florida...? Well, here it is.
You can snag your tickets for all of the showtimes HERE, or try your luck at the box office the night of... but definitely be sure to come on out, because... well, look at the films on the bill for the weekend.
And, for a few of our South Florida Ain't It Cool readers, I've got your entry right here.
I've got three pairs of seats for Friday night's 7:00 showing of WITH GREAT POWER, and I've got three pairs of seats for Friday night's 9:00 showing of COMIC-CON. Want a shot at them? Then let me hear your ultimate geek geek-out moment. We've all had our encounters over the years in some form or another, but along the way, there's been one moment that stands out over all of them that ranks as your ultimate geek-out moment. You saw someone, you met someone, you shook someone's hand, you took someone's pictures. Whatever it is, I want to hear your story, and then I'll take the six most awesome and hook you up with tickets.
Send it along with your full name over to Contests@AintItCool.com with the following subject line exactly (in all CAPS):
EMBRACE YOUR GEEK
You've got until 11:59 p.m. EST on Wednesday, May 9, to get your entries into me. You'll know if you won the following day with winners being emailed and posted up on the site.
This should be one pretty fun weekend. Good luck.

That's a pretty good superhero trilogy. Could swap TMNT out for Raimi Spiderman, but i'll take TMNT 90 anyday.

The greatest lie the internet ever told was the Donner Cut is good.

"General Zod, would you care to step outside." Come on, how the fuck do you top that line.

Definitely gonna see if I can round up some friends for TMNT. Too bad I've already seen the two docs. :C Good stuff, Billy! Thanks for shining a light on this. Awesome.

I feel sorry for you guys who have sit through that Donner cut
by Logan_1973
They couldn't get Superman I ? I would seriously not sit through that Donner cut again if my life depended on it.
-
For me the best cut would be one that adds in the Donner Brando and extra Lex Luthor stuff (espcially the part where he grabs the coffee from Jimmy), and gets rid of some of the goofy Lester sight gags (dude on roller skates). As a stand alone though, the Donner cut is a history piece, not a finished film.
-
Is there ever going to be something planned around the Orlando area?
-
They used the original ending to it, because Donner was fired before a new ending could be developed. So the ending that was used for Superman 1 which was supposed to be the ending to 2 had to be used to make a complete film. Having all the Brando stuff back in makes Superman 2 work so much better in conjunction with the first film. Plus the scene with Christopher Reeve and Brando, after Clark returns to the Fortress to try to get his powers back, is truly one of the most powerful scenes in the series. I loved the Lester version, but the Donner cut is better.
-
Bale is terrific and the Nolan films are great, but Keaton's performance set the tone for the best version of Batman. And he has the coolest suit. Or as Jack said, "Nice outfit."

Donner cut: Superman turns the Earth back to before shit went down. Then he goes back to beat up on the bully, who thanks to the time trip has never met Clark Kent before.

Amazing, Kidd - but have a humble request - anything upcoming in the Fort Lauderdale area? (closer to us) Just curious.

Aventura is typically as far as things go north right now, and a lot of that is the studios' call. Just not as strong of a turnout the further north we go in South Florida.
