The New Trailer For THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN Is Here!!
The Kidd here...
The new trailer for THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN has swung our way, and, while I'm feeling a little better about the action pieces Marc Webb has coming to us this summer, I'm still not entirely sold on the Peter Parker story they're ready to feed us. There's still a lot of emphasis being placed on his parents, which may change the entire dynamic of Spidey's being if Uncle Ben's role is greatly reduced. Also, we still have yet to get a clear glimpse of the Lizard in motion, which makes one wonder if they're starting to doubt their design after the stills haven't exactly garnered positive reaction.
As a big SPIDER-MAN fan, I'm still hoping for the best... but there just feels like something is very off kilter about this entire vision for Spidey.

CGI fire always looks like shit, why do the lazy bastards do it? Why? Why?

Garfield is awesome.

Im feeling a lot better about seeing Spidey now after seeing that!

If it doesn't look right - DON'T DO IT. Imply it but don't take us out of the picture.
by MENTALDOMINANCE
And for any idiot who says "how else could you do this without CGI?" - The answer is. YOU CAN DO FIRE BY USING REAL FIRE AND IT WILL (GASP!) LOOK REAL! Just how you can do breath by filming in refridgerated sets. Basically - to not use CGI, you have to have half a brain and actually care about the end result.
-
I really liked the choice of Andrew Garfield for the role, but wasnt feeling any of the other trailers, I still don't Like the way the Lizard Looks, but other than that this is the first really good trailer I've seen of this movie...
-
The movie looks like The Incredible Hulk movie. All the big action takes placed at night time. Does not look as epic as Spidey One and Two.
-
May 3, 2012, 6:11 p.m. CST
Had to shut off RED TAILS the first 5 minutes it looked like such shit - like AIR COMBAT for Playstation. And the horrid fire looks exactly how the horrid fire in this film looks.
by MENTALDOMINANCE
It's because audiences don't demand better.
-
I love that this is much more witty and confident Spider-Man. The swinging effects have improved big time. I like the color scheme to keep things bright with all of the night time scenes. Having said that.....it looks like all of the action sequences take place at frickin' night which makes it almost exactly like most of the other vigilante superhero movies. That was a huge selling point for the Sam Raimi movies. Spider-Man is not a morose story (despite the guilt over Uncle Ben) and a lot of it took place in broad daylight. I think only the finales took place at night in most of those movies. If I want a hero that fights only at night I'll stick with Batman thank you very much. At the very least this version scores in casting. I like every single casting choice.
-
I hope this delivers.
-
I do.<br> and I also see dead people

there's a new Dark Knight Rises trailer. It hasn't been posted here, right? Epic fail nerds! This isn't a car! Fuck the Avengers and Emo-man!

It looks just like the Incredible Hulk movie. Both are low-budget shit-fests that look like a computer game cut-scene. The shitty effects are partially shrouded in the darkness.

and I hate the "Lizard - Thing" but I buy the skinny Garfield Spidey !! I will go and see this...!!
-
It looks alright in some parts but it also has some of the most obvious CGI I've seen in recent times. How can there be an FX supervisor and a director that approve those effects?

good movie for me, think i will go for movie show!

Webb's looks like the 'Chris Nolan' version - less cartoony, with characters that are better developed and more nuanced.

Anyone else getting a Harry Potter "the boy who lived" vibe from this? It is like Harry Potter grew up in a Scifi world instead a magical world... and was bitten by a radioactive spider. When I say it out loud it makes me really want this movie to work lol.

This looks good. Don't know why people aren't excited for it. It already has way better action than Raimi's movies.

-
Theyre trying to justify this movies' existence by beating us over the head with this UNTOLD STORY business, focusing on Peter's parents being scientists and blah blah. No one wants to see this alternate Ultimate Spider Man story on screen. The sneaky thing is how they're telling the Ultimate story but calling the film The Amazing Spider Man. This is such a mess and could rival John Carter for biggest cinematic disaster of the year. I don't understand why Spider Man is so hard to get right on film. Marvel really should buy the property back, they would make a fantastic Spidey film. Sony has no idea what it's doing.

Been waiting for years to see the Lizard in a Spidey movie and this is the payoff!?!?!? Fucking origin story all over again and the Lizard looks like SHIT!!! Not getting my money Sony, fuck NO!! Wouldn't even want to watch this shit if it was free. >:(
-
Haters lose.
-
As if the complaints about the lack of a lab coat weren't dumb enough. Seriously guys... shut the fuck up. Avengers is going to be filled with cock loads of CGI fire and CGI buildings and CGI people and CGI aliens and CGI semen. It was completely obvious in the trailers. Not to mention how dumb Captain America and HawkEye look. Though I'm sure you'll still praise it as the best fucking movie of all time because double standards are awesome. For fuck's sake.
-
The overall look of the movie and costume is the problem. If the movie was called something like Spiderman:2099 we might accept it better. The previous movies are still too fresh in our minds. Kinda like the New Coke vs. Classic Coke fiasco...now I just want to do coke..
-
Overall I think this trailer was very promising..it looks like Andrew Garfield has nailed Spider-Man as a character, and I have a feeling he will do fine on the Peter Parker side of things too. The action set pieces feel more 'comic book', and seem to have a bit more impact and fluidity than the fights in Raimi's films..from what I've seen of these trailers at least. Also, I like that the there is a darker color palette at play her. It's an interesting, and instant contrast to the bright visual stylings of Raimi throughout much of his Spider-Man series. I'm really pulling for this one, the dark horse of comic movies this summer.
-
instead of cramming Venom down his gullet. There is no way in hell this will be even a fraction as amazing as Raimi's Spiderman 2 was. 4 Words : Alfred Molina Doc Ock. Get this hipster spider bullshit outta here.
-
are not held responsible if this movie fails. Improvements: Webshooters exist! Spidey's movement (non cgi) Gwen! Fails: apparent tone apparent plot Parker's character seems...off somehow (accent? slur?)
-
Unless you prefer Raimi's "It's you who's out Gobby, out of your mind!".

1. Is it me or does everyone knows Peter is Spider-Man in this? 2. You don't need to do anything with his parents. It makes this not about Spider-Man save that it seems he was made to be Spider-Man. 3. Borrowing too much from The Dark Knight. Wrong material. Batman has parent issues, right. Spider-Man? Not so much. 4. When will we see... the Punisher? He needs to be in this to punish everyone for making this crap.
-
On July 18, "Hurry up honey, or else they might sell out. Oh, damn; Batman's sold out! Is there anything else playing? Uhhh.... hmmmmm.... well there's another Spider-man movie. I guess we could see that, since we're already here...." Brilliant marketing strategy there. >:)

Jokes aside, pretty good trailer. I wonder though, am I the only one feeling like they wish this wasn't such a standalone movie? You know no other heroes are going to turn up or cameo even.
-
Seriously that blew me the fuck away. I'm not a die hard spiderman fan. I own a few comics and really liked the other movies but as a character I never really fell in love with him. I do seriously enjoy him and his universe though. Anyway, I was completely against this reboot. I hated everything I've seen so far until this. This is fucking amazing. wow some of those scenes look mind-blowing for real. I'm there I have to say.

Spider-Man 3 is more Spider-Man than this retconning of Parker's Parents
by HornOrSilk
Even with the retcon with the Sandman, Spider-Man 3 was more Spider-Man than this could ever be.
-
Nice reaction time. Have to keep the buzz positive now.
-
Look at the over-saturated colors, especially in all the wide shots of the city. And it makes me mental that Peter is now "emo". He can't just be a quiet, nerdy, but likable kid, as in the comics and the first Raimi movie. I will be passing on this one.

And Raimi has more of the spirit of Spider-Man than this Nolan wannabe

That two minutes was better than anything Raimi put together. Without question. So what if it has the storyline about his parents. What? Comics don't introduce different takes on characters? by HornOrSilk
The rest of us have seen this plot-line before. Done better.
-
Off the bat, I'm against this being a reboot to begin with. I'm sure they could've made an in- between movie that fits in with the Raimi films, just with different actors etc. Why does spidery need to "woo" when he swings? Yes, I'm sure it'd be fun as shit, but... And it's always a girls woo too. The scene where he's against the guy with the knife...as he's saying "you've found my only weakness" (or whatever) it's just waaaaaay overdone with the body movement. The smart-ass quip is enough, you don't have to mime it if you're saying it. Will probably see this and hope for the best still. Tempting to watch in 3D for the swinging.
-
...mentalpygmy more like. Looks a whole helluva lot better than the Raimi messes. Fact. I think you just don't like Spider-Man. So go troll another board.

I know I have no proof, but what are the odds that a major motion picture company that invest millions of dollars into a film would not hire some intern minimum wage to post unabashedly positive --ooh I can't wait--posts to one of the most popular websites among its target audience? Generating a positive buzz is extremely important. If I worked for the PR department of a motion picture company, you would bet your ass, I would hire a few teens to spread the hype. It would be cheap way to hope for some kind of domino effect. I mean look at the clip; at the most it is interesting, and slick in spots, but it lacks any chemistry and charisma. Hardly enough to get people buzzing--that is where the plants come in. If I am wrong, who cares? Really?

I'm not going to point out the obvious flaws of that piece of shit. SPIDER-MAN 2 was great, and fuck Raimi for being an asshole because he was pressured into including Venom.

Dr Connors gains an arm and a tail but loses his dick. Spidey loses his mask, AGAIN! How ever PP does pull a sweet 360 flip on his skateboard! I'm in 2 minds with this reboot as they did rush to get it done, I'm not keen on the whole parent thing and the direction its going. The Lizard just doesn't quite work for me either, he grows the tail etc but not the snout? Bad call I do though like how the web shooters are back and the wise cracks are in there. His web swinging does look better too. This is going to be either really good or really suck, I just wish Marvel could get its franchise back or work a deal to have more involvement as that would then be a win, win for fans and bring the universe together properly.
-
Fucking hilarious! You guys are so fucking insane. Hey, can we have some more science about wings on a Balrog again?

I'm sick of asshats like you. How is that fake-looking? How is it any more fake looking than a practical effect? Here's an idea, moron: if you think effects look shitty, stop going to movies that have them. There's plenty that don't. Spare the rest of us your highly-developed insights such as "it sucks :::derp:::!!!". Fuck you very much, buddy. goodnight.

Like none of you loved Spider-man 2 when it came out. I guess all it takes is dark cinematography and a bunch of really bad looking CG to please you guys. The trailer looked like shit. I want to see the movie, you want to see the movie. However, if the movie tanks Sony will be less likely to make another one. If we all decide not to see it and convince all our friends not to see it and they can do the same, maybe, just maybe enough time will go by and Sony's ownership of Spidey will revert back to Marvel Studios. Secret Wars anyone?

Anyone complaining about the origin rehash should remember that Sam Raimi, in fact, messed everything up with the Sandman retcon in Spider-Man 3. Looks like we might be treated to some nonlinear narrative a la Batman Begins, which is fine by me. What I'm really interested in is the apparent attempt to tie all the Spidey villains together under Oscorp experimentation, a Brian Bendis Ultimate flourish which I'm a fan of. But seriously fellas, am I the only one wondering who is the Emperor Palpatine-looking/talking motherfucker with Connor's is? At 1:30 we see feet hit the ground, accompanied by thin legs or tubes. Doc Ock cameo, mayhaps? I feel like this thing has flown so far under the radar that they might have shot scenes with either Octavious or Norman. Tron: Legacy tried a similar move with Cilian Murphy. Not saying that was a particularly artful move on their part, maybe Webb can do the sort of teasing that Raimi got out of the Dylan Baker performance.

Lots of names on this thread I've never seen before...
by Roman Troy Moronie
Yeah... studio plants. I know for a fact the studios do it. My wife worked at Disney for years ...and told me how many that worked there in promotion and/or one of the Disney movie companies get online praising Disney financed movies and slamming any person on talkback threads that don't think it's a very good film. Soon after, she worked down the street in Burbank at Warner Brothers... same thing happening there. Sorry plants, I don't think you're fooling too many people. Funny how a rash of previously unseen usernames rally to defend a movie before it's release... it's probably 4 or 5 people using sock puppets. I love when they agree with themselves ... that's the best.
-
I'm not sure about the whole "parents of destiny" thing but it felt very comic-booky, and thank fuck Spidey's a smart-ass like he's supposed to be. Much better than I anticipated.
-
Also unless I know Sally Field gets nude in this, no dice Chicago.
-
Honestly, my only complaint with this is Emma Stone, who I just don't see as Gwen (yet). That said, this trailer looks incredible. I don't get the haters. The CG looks rock solid, he has ACTUAL webshooters, he makes witty quips, and the action looks truly, truly epic. I'm glad they aren't showing more of the Lizard... frankly, they may already have shown too much. He's a monster. Monsters are better when you DON'T know what they look like. That way they can surprise you. I admit, I'm a little worried about the origin nature of things getting mucked with, but I'll reserve judgment until after I've seen it... opening weekend.
-
Not really much of a retcon in the movie... since the Ultimate version had Peter's father working as a biologist, and that seems to be more the version Marvel has been using for all their movies.
-
Since when did Dr. Conners become a villain? The Lizard is a villain not Dr. Conners. All the action takes place at night, probably because it was cheaper. Once again my biggest gripe about the Raimi movies returns, that would be the constant use of Spiderman in action without his mask. the effects look bad and who gives a shit about Peter Parkers parents? And don't give me that shit about Spidey wisecracking because that's the only thing that they added that looks worthwhile. Everything else looks like the dark and depressing version of Spiderman.
-
imjussayin defintely gonna torrent this shit when it comes out

is the one asking Conner if he told anything to Peter about his parents. Makes sense if they are setting up a trilogy, and a mystery about his parents who worked at Oscorp. I find the parent angle interesting. As a man who grew up without a father, I have always had it the back of my mind what he was like, what he did, answers to those questions of why he was not in my life, so I can see how a teenager, with newly formed powers, and new information on the lost parents would be inclined to do some investigation and open up a whole can of worms. It actually makes a bit of sense to have your protagonist actually want something other than breaking someone's face just to stop them from doing whatever. The lizard tranformation gas seems tacky at first, but, it could end up tying into the mythology they are trying to create very nicely. Seems they are setting up Conners to be a type of mad scientist character, which I'm perfectly okay with, since a mad scientist type would probably want to make a gas that turned everyone into lizards, just to see if he could. It's called hubris, people. All in all, I'm diggin a lot of what I've been shown, and I'm intrigued.
-
Why yes, my dear boy, yes. Frankly, I couldn't care less about this movie. With Avengers and Batman coming out this summer, Spiderman is taking a back seat...a very distant back seat. Like, in the back of a station wagon. You know, that seat where the red headed step child sits. No offense Harry.
-
This is only going to be good if there is good character development. Like any other movies.
-
Jealous of everyone who will be watching this at the movies tonight.

Not only does the fucking Lizard LOOK wrong, they couldn't even manage to get the characterization right; Connors is NOT a bad guy, the fucking LIZARD IS, YOU DUMB, DICKLESS, SHIT-FOR-BRAINS, GREEDY HOLLYWOOD FUCKS.

...stay true to the look of the comics. They nailed Hulk and that's what the viewing publics and fanboys alike wanted to see. If The Lizard doesn't look like The Lizard then stick this in the dumper where it will belong OR put this on ice till they've nailed the CGI.

The night shots look really beautiful and hide the most aggregious design flaws of the costume so it's not a horrible thing.....but that's never been the way Spider-Man has been portrayed. Overall I still think it looks really good. It looks pretty expensive. I thought the big idea behind this was a small, intimate little Spidey drama but the scale looks pretty close to the Raimi films. But then the Raimi films had MANY action set pieces and so far we've only really seen Spidey fighting the lizard at night on skyscrapers, so we'll see.

They should have just made Spidey 4. Even though I hated 3.
-
The effects look great. The suit looks great. Garfield has Peter nailed. Emma could not be a more perfect Gwen Stacey. Dennis Leary rocks. It's telling a NEW story (that of Peter's parents). Spidey has the right attitude. If you don't like the looks of this, you're simply a malcontent loser who gets off on hating things most other people enjoy. Go listen to some Cure and mope in your tears. Jesus, talkbackers are just the worst human beings.

Nolan and Goyer were actually pretty ACCURATE with the Batman origin
by Jaster Mareel
What exactly do you think they changed? Ok, Rachel is a new character and I don't think Bruce was ever gonna shoot Joe Chill. Ra's wasn't the one that trained him, but it smoothes it all out and puts emphasis where it should be for the drama to make sense. Small nitpicks to be sure because MUCH of both films were culled from existing comics. Read Year One and The Killing Joke.

hopefully they'll equal Raimi's Spidey 2 stuff. To me this action oriented trailer sells the flick better than the earlier trailers. I think it sells ASM better than the TDKR trailer, but that movie didn't need to convince anyone we're all there opening day.... but either way for me the high water mark (if this film works) will be higher than anything Nolan's bland Batworld can reach.

by Nerd Rage
The least you haters could do is tolerate one movie that fixes all that shit and then some.
-
That's sort of an odd assessment. The comics rarely show night. And of course aside from the silver, raised webbing, Raimi's Spider-Man LOOKED exactly like the comic. Plus Raimi was born and raised on comic book framing which works perfectly for the films. Webb is borrowing from that but I think using a bit more traditional shot composition.

AS A TRUE FAN OF THE SOURCE MATERIAL SINCE THE 70s... IT'S AS IF I GOT BITCH SLAPPED BY SEEING THIS...
by Astronut
chitownsbest said it right. This looks to be a real trainwreck. And, I might add, the type of trainwreck we all saw coming last year. Remember? It was called Green Lantern? Little respect for the source material. Lizard looks like ass. Spider-Man can't keep his fucking mask on. Again. I guess it's not enough that the actor gets to play a civilian role for much of the film --- he also has to have his fucking mask off during the action scenes. Not only was it too early to REBOOT the fucking thing, they missed the target doing it!!! Truckloads of CGI everywhere. Fuck. An obvious cash grab on Sony's part to hold on to the license. Fucking joke, this is.
-
Looks like it has an identity of its own separate from the Raimi version. I definitely like how the wise ass Parker is back. This Parker seems more manly than Toby's.

-
Dude.... :::sigh:::<P> WHAT source material? Ditko/Lee? Ultimate? Animated? Black costume? Ben Reilly?<P> The comics have dicked around SO MUCH with Spider-Man, there really ISN'T any firm canon.
-
I think last year or the year before, it'd stand up well against Thor and CA or IM2, but coming out during the summer of Avengers, Prometheus (that alone, really), and TDKR... hell, even The Expendables looks fucking insane and has already sold itself with the latest trailer... you have all those and this feels like an also-ran. Just bad positioning. I think it should have also been released 4-5 weeks after The Avengers, regardless of what else is coming out this would have been tops. I mean, the release on this is suicide... by that time, not only will we have most of those mentioned with TDKR on the horizon, but a shit load of other reasons that anyone looking for an excuse could find a good one to go to the movies - G.I. Joe, Brave, MIB3, The Dictator. In other words, by that time, and on that weekend especially, it's gonna be hard unless the weather is bad to find people that don't have movie fatigue and aren't holding out for TDKR. It's amazing that movies like this, G.I. Joe, a PIXAR movie, and MIB3 are relegated to second tier. That's how you know this is an ABSOLUTELY BUGSHIT INSANE summer for movies. Biggest ever?

For those who missed it, they do have the Lizard in a lab coat at some point in the movie. Not sure why they don't have him wear it the whole time. Maybe it's a movement restriction thing (although he is CGi): http://www.superherohype.com/news/articles/170479-first-official-stills-of-the-lizard-in-the-amazing-spider-man. Also, I am wondering if the whole piece about Peter's parents secret life is from the Ultimate story line? If so, they are building up to Venom from a different angle.
-
...to keep the film rights from going back to Marvel/Disney. Other than that, there's no reason to make this piece of crap.

CGI looks awful in that burning car hanging over the bridge scene
by Titus05

-
You're right about canon, I'll definitely agree there. Has everyone else forgot the whole One More Day / Brand New Day fiasco where they basically rewrote every fucking thing in the Spider-Man's entire history. People dead were alive, other people gone, Parker was reset to some older era version without any of the modern occurances... all this while Civil War was still wrapping up and they magically don't remember his unmasking. JMS and Quesada (mostly Quesada from what I hear... "we don't have to explain ANYTHING! It's Magic!") fucked that story up so badly they should be bludgeoned with a Giant Size Spider-Man comic. It's so bad that writers later had to come up with shit to cover the stench. --- As for the movie, I was wholeheartedly in the "WTF! It's way too soon for a reboot!" camp, and when I saw the intial pictures I thought it looked horrible. (I still hate those silver things on his feet... I also find it humorous how most of the artwork carefully eliminates them.)... But knowing they're kind of going for their own thing, based on the Ultimate version of the character, the previews have slowly made me go from a "This is going to suck" standpoint to a "Hmm, this is kind of looking cool" one. I'm still taking it cautiously, but there's more good that I'm seeing here than in Raimi's last outing.
-

by alienindisguise
but it's not and we'll get the same swinging shots from the same fucking buildings and all the same beats that Raimi's had. A cable watch but not a theatrical one.
-
Man, I loved his role as Edwardo in Social Network, but I'm not sold on how "Geeky" or "Nerdy" he is. Maybe an ironic-nerdy, or ironic-emo, or ironic-druggie. But man...I miss Sam Rami (minus Venom).
-
Peter parents didn't work for Norman Osborn. Dr Connors was a good man who accidently turned himself into a homicidal Lizard. The chameleon and Dock Ock both appeared before the Lizard. Maybe your talking about the 90's cartoon show where I'm pretty sure the Lizard was the first villain on the show. As another poster said, spiderman comics rarely took place at night. And the biggest difference of all, Spidey never took his fucking mask off during a battle. He didn't even take the mask off when Gwen Stacy fucking died. Why the fuck do these directors think we need to see the expression on his face during battle's? This is getting as bad as the original Tim Burton batman where it seemed like Bruce took his fucking mask off everytime he got a good piece of pussy.
-
So, instead of accidently getting bit by a radioactive spider, the bite activates an already genetically altered Peter Parker courtesy of his father. I saw this already in a movie, Ang Lee's Hulk.
-
Feels too soon for them to release a remade Spider-Man, but it all depends on the script. Not sure how Lizard Man is going to fit in to all this or how changing the backstory of Spider-Man will work. If the script is good and the characters are three-dimensional, anything's possible. I was someone who was absolutely sure the Avengers would suck because of the ensemble cast and the characters not getting enough screen time or story, but all of the reviews said they nailed it, so we'll see.
-
I agree with a lot of people, it's WAY too soon to be making a Spider-Man franchise of films - Even if it is a slightly different take on the material.
-
Unlike most movies most trailers are pretty good, lots of bad movies have really good trailers. On a purely postivie note that is a really good trailer. Spiderman 3 had a really good trailer too. I'm not cynical, its true. But what is it with kids in school buses and collapsing bridges? It's a tradition in superhero films..."gotta have the kids on a school bus" says the villanous corporate executive, I assume. I don't think the lizard man thing is going to be very scary.

While I'm not a kid anymore, it's one of my favorite takes on the character. Well, that's until they killed him off and replaced with the Replacement-Man. Marvel tries to sell Miles Morales as cool because he's half afro-american and half latino, forgetting the point that doesn't really matter which skin color the character has, as long as it's Peter Parker. I'm all for a new take on Spidey mythos, I love that Garfield got the role, but I'd be interested the same if an actor with any other ethnicity got the role. But the role of Peter Parker, not a fucking stupid replacement. Well, anyone but that fucking idiot of Community, he sucks as an actor and he's the reason Marvel had the dumb ideal of killing Peter Parker off in the Ultimate Universe. But that's another story. I see LOADS of potential on this new take, more than I've seen on any other of the Raimi's movies. Let's hope Webb will pull it off.

I like my Peter Parker good and nerdy, this Parker is too hip. I guess I can live without JJJ, but he's so good for comedic relief and a great foil for Parker. Peter gets to be a wiseacre out of costume with JJJ. Really not sure about the parents story line, or that Peter's fate may have been predestined. Norman Osborne makes a brief appearance when he asks Conners if he told Peter about his parents - kinda creepy, could be cool. All this aside, the preview is the best one yet. I'm happy to see the film is shot in 2.35:1, instead of 1.85:1. The Spidey action looks good, but like Billy the Skidd said, action tends to take care of itself, especially if the second unit director is a crack shooter. What's-his-face looks good as Captain Stacy, and the chick looks good as Gwen. However, this is clearly not "my" Spider-Man. This must be the Ultimate Spider-Man take on the character, which I'm unfamiliar with. The Ultimate books never had any appeal to an old timer like me. I'm totally gonna see it - there was never any question about that - I'm just not psyched to see it at all. And competing with the Dark Knight is suicide for a film with a totally unproven shift in tone that could totally suck for everyone's favorite wall-crawler. We shall see...

i'd rather take a chance on a new spin on the story cinematically than rehash what we've already seen. the movement of spider-man is already better in the trailers than the stiffness of the raimi flicks. just like batman begins, we're getting something different out of the known origin story, and i love it. if it turns out that the story sucks, then it sucks. i still love that there taking chances. i have hope.

You can't be excited for TDKR and The Avengers? Better yet, you can't be excited for The Avengers, TDKR, and The Amazing Spider-Man? You can't like Mad Men and Game of Thrones? Everything is either/or here, so it seems. Who makes these rules? Everyone complained about them starting over because they didn't want to see the beginning again. "It'll just be the same movie!" Well, they made changes to the story to solve that problem. This is the reason they are plugging the "Untold Story." It's what separates this film from the other one. As does the tone and dark feel. "Oh they're just banking off of TDK's success." Yes, The Dark Knight was the first movie ever to be successful with a dark tone, and no movie can ever be grittier or attempt to be moody without copying it. Guess what? I liked The Dark Knight and I'm still excited for this. The trailer looked pretty exciting to me. Much improved webslinging, characters I'm interested to see, and a good cast. Most importantly, WHERE IS IT WRITTEN THAT A MOVIE LIKE THIS SIMPLY CAN NOT BE GOOD UNLESS IT ADHERES STRICTLY TO THE COMICS AND THE KNOWN CANON. I just don't get it. I loved the comics. I grew up with them. And I'm able to separate them from my eagerness to see Spidey on film. It just seems silly to pre-judge a film based solely on the fact that they've changed things There's no rule that says that liberties can not be taken. If it's a good story, with likable characters, and thrilling action, isn't that what really matters? There can be great comics AND great movies loosely based on the comics. Kind of like a movie "inspired by true events" can still be good, even if it's not EXACTLY what happened. Right?

Why are any of you getting worked up? No matter what, people are going to make excuses for it and its going to get a sequel. This is probably the best possible year for Sony to do this; With THE AVENGERS and PROMETHEUS and THE DARK KNIGHT RISES, if this movie under performs all they have to do is cite all the other big league movies coming out this summer. Then say the sequel will be better and release it during a more typical blockbuster season. Its obvious people have some sort of strange fetish love for the character of SPIDER-MAN, so, they'll accept pretty much anything. I mean, if Peter being more of smart ass is all it takes then they'll make excuses for ANYTHING. Of course, NO ONE will write about how Sony is doing this just to attain the rights. That will be too much of a downer, eh? So, my fellow Spidey whores, contemplate this: What if instead of this, Sony lost the rights and they went to Marvel, and THEY made a new Spider-Man movie, in the ways they're making the other Marvel films, and they make it coincide with THE AVENGERS sequel ...so, we'd have Spider-Man ...with the AVENGERS ...in a Marvel summer blockbuster... ...you enjoy THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN.
-
Just saying & the fake accent of Andrew Garfield almost takes you out of the movie its obvious he is not an american. .......probably does not matter much as this is aimed at the 8-12 year old audience anyway who will not ask such questions. The trailer music is also dire I hope James Horner can come up with something which soars but he will have to put his talent dial up to full power (for the first time since 1998) to even match Danny Elfmans amazing music. Its still hard to understand how/why Raimi/Maguire could not come to terms with Sony on SM4 thats the only reason this movie is a forced prequel concept it could well be a huge financial letdown as SM3 left a rotten taste in movie goers mouths due to it being a forced concept from Sony (just like this go figure..........).
-
but can this trailer beat the bad buzz? Yeah, I think it can. Because it's only fanboys thinking it looks bad (me included until this trailer) otherwise people will see this and say, "hey, a spiderman movie, that looks cool." What did I just write?

Some nice Spidey imagery and poses, but awful butchery of the origin/parent relation. This is the Millennial Spidey.
by kevred
Destiny shaped by his parents' plans for him. That ain't Spidey. Don't care what retconned nonsense has been swirling in the books in recent years. Claiming that the latter-day garbage defines Spidey is like saying the vampire-hunter version of Abe Lincoln is more up-to-date than the original and we should just forget about the old-fashioned version. They've obviously got some things right with this, and have taken care to include some iconic Spidey poses and moments. But so far a stupid costume and nonsenical, awful backstory updates are still ruining it for me. And it's hard to not look at the Lizard and think: they came so close to getting it right! Why screw up the most obvious part?

SPIDER-MAN in THE AVENGERS. That's the only thing people are going to want for this character now, and they'll start hating Sony because it won't happen.
by jedimast3r
This movie I'll pass on, with Batman hot on its heels anyway. This one is doomed for sub par performance.
-
You are absolutely right about Sony being able to make excuses if this isn't a huge success. There were people who were saying it must be good if Kevin Feige says so because he would never lie. The fact is that Marvel Studios has merchandising rights to this movie and Kevin Feige would be an idiot to say this movie is anything but great. The trailers looks absolutely mediocre. The same people defending them and trashing Raimi's movies have nothing to say about Spiderman constantly being de-masked, just like in the Raimi movies. At the end of the day, if it's mediocre it will still make money because people love spiderman. I just hate to see another series take a turn like the Batman series did. Warners threw trash out because they knew love for Batman would turn a profit no matter what they threw at us. Sony is doing the same thing here.
-
But he should have more personality than a wide eyed zombie. And don't get me started on Raimi's humorless Spider-man.

Buckethead - you may be right, but it's just not a logical expectation

And the skateboarding thing irks me a bit more than the hoodie (I mean...ALL kids wear hoodies right now, it's just plain accurate). But again...as posted above, I feel like we have to be willing to view the media as two separate entities. And why not be open to liking each as their own?
-
Nobody cares when they shower praise on Burton's Batman, and that had the Joker being the one who killed Bruce's parents, which is just as much as a fuckwith as what looks to be going on here. Ultimate Spiderman changed the origin too, and that worked, maybe this will too.

This movie looks like dogshit. Dog. Shit. Nothing there looked remotely interesting. BTW Lizard looks like Killer Croc and doesnt resemble The Lizard at all.

He wrote and directed the third movie and it was shit. Time to move forward.

I would have loved to be a fly on the wall in that studio meeting: Executive A: "What about this Marc Webb guy?" Executive B: "Who the hell is that?" Executive A: "He did that quirky romantic comedy for hipsters." Executive B: "What, like one of the Apatow movies?" Executive A: "Uh, no the one with that guy from 3rd Rock from the Sun." Executive B: "John Lithgow?" Executive A: "No, the Angels in the Outfield kid." Executive B: "Oh.... so we're going to get that kid to play Spider-man?" Executive A: "No, the director." Executive B: "We're going to have the director play Spider-man?" Executive A: "Ughh, no, we'll have him direct it." Executive B: "Oh!.... What else has he done?" Executive A: "A bunch of music videos." Executive B: "Hmmmm..... how much does he want?" The guy has done one feature-length movie, and I think he should've had at least three before taking on Spider-man.

@dweeb_killa- the Ultimates had pretty much the same origin
by ChiTownsBest
Spidey's origin didn't change much, they even had the wrestling match and the robber. The thing that changed in the ultimate's was more the origin of the villains and his parents then his own origin.
-
The irony is Joseph Gordon Levitt would have made a decent Peter Parker and could have pulled off the wisecracking side of spidey better then what I'm hearing from Garfield. He's 31 but Garfield is 29 playing a 16 year old.
-
Don't you see? He wasn't a normal teenager whom random coincidence imbued with powers. He... was the chosen one! And that doesn't at all completely undermine the entire fucking appeal of the origin. And because we don't have enough "chosen ones" in genre fiction. Oy.
-
...the film will be better than the first and third Spiderman. But it won't be able to approach Spiderman 2. That would be just too much to ask.<br /> <br /> If you wonder where my tastes lie, my five favorite superhero films of all time are: 5. The Crow<br /> 4. Kick-Ass<br /> 3. Scott Pilgrim Vs. Despite Garfield and the suit, this looks pretty good, actually.
by Anti-fanboy
Not too crazy about Spidey's origin here, though, which sounds strangely like Bruce's in Lee's Hulk, in the sense that his powers are the result of his father's research. This was a tough one to reboot. They had to be distinct from Raimi's, but still try to stay true to the character... The webshooters are a welcome change.
-

Can someone explain how the retconned origin ruins the Spider-man character?
by Nerd Rage
I think the most important part of Parker becoming Spider-man isn't how spontaneous his powers were but that his uncle's lesson and death was the catalyst for Spider-man being a selfless hero.
-
Apart from the fact id like to see the Lizard in his labcoat more, im pretty impressed with this trailer. As for the origin stuff, who gives a shit as long as it makes sense and is a part of the story, not shoe horned in as an extra. Weve all seen the origin from the previous Spiderman comics and movies, so if it has to be done again why not make it different????
-
That kid who was also in Zathura. Ugh... IMDB search.... Josh Hutcherson. That kid rallied for the role; he released audition videos to Youtube and everything. Problem is he's got a weird-looking head and he's shorter than Tom Cruise. Garfield has a certain X-Factor - he plays the whole "uncomfortable in his own skin" role quite well. He does look younger than he is, mostly because of his build, and at this point he does pass for a 22 or 23 year old, but most certainly not a 16 year old high school kid. Ugh... this whole movie just feels like a justification to retain the license, ala "Hey guys! If we don't make a Spider-man movie before 2012, Kevin Feige is going to go all agro on us!"
-
"I'M THERE OPENING DAY!" I must be a plant... Moron. Give it a rest.

@nerd rage. I just don't like the "My parents are secret agents" bullshit...
by Tarijeno
The appeal of Spider-man, for me, is that he's this regular kid with nothing special going for him, aside from intelligence, and he's the unwitting recipient of great power. This new movie is making it sound like his parents genetically engineered his origin, and that just sounds perverse to me.
-
Much better cast overall. Garfield is a very good actor, and Emma Stone is fantastic. Feels more like Spider-Man. Has more atmosphere. The second half of this trailer especially kicks ass.

-
...they had gone with the Ultimate Universe version of The Lizard. That version looks like absolute shit. But only if. Also the dweebs here screaming about this being a CGI fest haven't seen that there are quite a few actual real-guy-swinging-on-a-line practical shots that have been used. Whatever. Will still make buckets of cash.
-

This will make stupid money anyway. The Spider-Man movies make far far more than any other superhero movie.
by happybunni
But there is so much shit coming off of this still. Him being in highschool, no thank you. I like how they hid that from the trailers when it probably takes up 30% of the movie. Making daddy issues the main storyline, no thank you. Having his father plan for him to be a spider human hybrid... WHAT THE FUCK? no thank you. A main hero who looks like he dates guys instead of girls, no thank you.

by ShakaLaka Lambo
And I 'm excited. To see it as well. But you dipshits have to hitch don't. You? Look we've had two great Batman. Flicks compared to one good spidey. Flick (2) when he who must not be named. Jumped the fuckin. Shark. With nipples. On the bat suit it almost. Destroyed the bat at the box office. Rainier (God. Love him for spidey 2 and army of darkness) jumped it with mighty morphin. Power gobby. And venom saying I instead OF WE. it could of hurt our beloved. Webhead! But just as nolan changed the batmobile. And the suit in various. Ways. (Anyone want to admit they we're. Raising. Holy he'll because he didn't have the bright yellow. Targe ..I mean oval bat symbol on his chest? No? I didn't think any of you douche bags would) How about waiting to see it before we decree it to be shite hmmm? I don't give a rat's coco of motherfucking hunch what they do with parker's parents cause this movie is The Amazing Spidey we've dreamed of seeing come off the page since we were kids, he'll that's over 30 years for me! I will see tdkr, and I 'm pretty sure I 'll. Like. It though Anne Hathaway is so not catwoman. One comic book movie that screwed with the character's origin... Catwoman..
by darthSaul666
Yeah that worked out well.. Didn't it? Yeah you can't really make a comment that this will be the true Spider-Man when the changes to the origin are very apperant... Also constant ret-conning of comic book canon happened way more often with DC than Marvel. Hate to say it but it's already apperant that Raimi was closer to the comics.... Only question now is if the changes will work like in X-Men 1st class or will fail like most other attempts. Also as geeks aren't we supposed to hate the reboot trend?

by Bass Ackwards
coming this summer.
-
It's nice to see peter being comical this time around, but it's still not blowing my skirt up.
-
And its too gloomy
-
Really, it just takes me out of it. The scenes of him moving about and fighting the lizard just looks so hooky and fake. Take the Batman Trailer, very little to no cgi with Batman. Course that could because he has no powers, but still it's far more effective to see him fighting for real then some over used, fast paced CGI shots.
-
I'm going to give this one a chance.
-
I know Maguire gets shit on for not having the smart assitude we're all used to, but one thing I really really liked about Maguire is his earnestness, not something we see in super-heroes/action heroes too much (the smart ass one-liner quips on the other hand we se in every other action flick, so that wasn't too terribly missed by me).
-

yeah I've been saying for a while this is basically Ultimate Spidey for a while
by darthSaul666
But story arcs with parents from the 80s and 90s? That's a little new to me... I've had the notion of The Red Skull framing and murdering his folks and Spidey clearing there names posthumously and that was about it. Besides didn't the director say in some interview a couple weeks ago that he wasn't really sticking to the source material?

This movie looks like it's green lantern with spider webs. the action looks like shit and it doesn't follow the source material This version of Peter Parker isn't a nerd he's an outcast who's all like teen angsty and sad emo boy who can skateboard and likes to be alone Sad that this was actually made but in a way it's a nice fuck you to raimi after the clusterfuck that was spiderman 3. 1 and 2 were fucking genius fuck you people who want to see this you shouldn't be movie fans you should watch Barney with my 2 yr old son who has better taste in movies than you
-
Emo crap. Parents crap. Costume crap. Lizard crap. This is a cluster-fuck of producer crap. They don't give a damn about the source material just chasing Twilight trends and throwing in all the toy crap while sacrificing story. If you hated SPIDER-MAN 3 this is just more of the same by the same producers asking for the kind of shit they THINK will sell verses trying to make and tell a good Spider-Man story as their first regard and let the selling come from that.
-
So many plants here you can smell Sony is in the air.
-
I never liked the peters parents storyline. fuck with his origins you fuck with the core of the character that's made him what he is. Peters quips are just not funny either that or Garfield delivery is off (and he's competent, i liked him in the social network) He just doesn't seem like peter parker. All this, the reboot of a series that didn't need to be rebooted just feels like a cash grab all over it. like battleship! Put enough sfx and explosions the kids are sure to lap it up! Kids may lap it up, no one else will The trailer has reinforced to me that i really don't want to see it.

The reason people are bitching about the parents
by the artist formerly known as messi
is because in the comics it was irrelevant. he was an orpan raised by his aunt and uncle. no more. there were arcs regarding the parents but in the overall scheme they were unimportant. this just reeks of wanting to do something different for different sake
-
WITH YOUR POP UP EYEBALLS YOU LOOKED LIKE A PEDOPHILE NOT LIKE PARKER. YOU SUCKED. YOUR DIRECTOR TOO. THE NEW PP INVENTED FACEBOOK, HE IS SMARTER THAN YOU. THIS MOVIE WILL ROCK.
-
from reliable sources. what do you expect? this is studio exec/producer movie. the screenplay(which was already shit) was rewritten by Alvin Sargent, the same dude who wrote Raimi's shitfests but this dude is doing a more youthful take, except the fact 85 fucking years old. If you're going to bring an old man in to write Spidey then bring in Stan Lee for fucks sake. bugs me so much that its just nepotism that Sargent got the job cos his now dead wife was the producer. I don't care that he wrote some good movies a while back. So did Coppola. Guarantee you that Fiege wouldn't hire this dude. Good luck with this Spidey. Maybe someday people who read comics will make the movies.
-
Yes, they want to do "different" to prove "we are the best." But really, it is a lame attempt. But it is more than they are unimportant to the comic. It also ruins the whole character of Peter. Though smart, he's otherwise an "average" guy. Nothing special, if anything, sub-average on many levels, with his intelligence making up for his weaknesses. That helps create who he is. But this "you are special," and everyone apparently is watching him knowing who he is, even when he is a super-hero, really messes up the character. He might as wear no outfit. Everyone knows he is Spider-Man. That's what it seems like, at least.

that's why. And sorry but when Sony sees how much bank Avengers is making by being big and fun they're going to go "....shit"

Raimi was a whiny bitch, directors get forced to do things they do not want every day, and HE decided to make SM3 complete shit because he did not get his way. Fuck Raimi he's not Spielberg, he blew a opportunity, And I hope he never does another comic book or licensed property movie.
-
When I was kid I loved the first Spider-man, but since then I started reading some comics and fuck no, that boring charisma black-hole was not Spidey. This Spider-man enjoys himself, which is like the most crucial part of the character. If he turns out to be an alien from the planet of the arachnids and makes out with Harry Osborn, it will still be more faithful than Riami's cryfests.

...did they mess around with the origin story. Like the Hulk, Spider-Man's origin story is pretty simple, clear-cut and easy to pull off. But, as I predicted previously, they are pulling the ol' Ang Lee's Hulk storyboard by making Peter's parents geneticists and having his "condition" pre-programmed into him as a child, triggered by a spider bite (exactly like that bloody Hulk film). It was a crap conceit then, and it is a crap conceit now. I liked some of the action scenes, and Webb has nailed the angles, but the rest of it just looks so wrong - it looks like a mess of a story, when Spider-Man (or any superhero for that matter) is a universal story told simply. 1) Protagonist finds himself inexplicably changed 2) We identify with protagonist because it could theoretically happen to us 3) We share their experience has they get used to changes 4) A villiain is introduced and new hero learns to be the best in order to overthrow the bad guy. 5) Throw in a love interest for the soppy girls... But this, ahhh, this looks a bit off. But hey, it might turn out just dandy, right?

adaptation of spider-man blue, set in the current marvel cinematic universe. let's say present-day spidey is late 30s and looking back on his relationship with gwen/mj in the mid 90s. you've got lizard, rhino, green goblin, vulture and kraven plus two hot teenage girls. perfect. as a sequel you can then continue making films in the present day with the older spider-man without having to make a 'high school spidey' or 'college spidey' over and over again like the loop we're currently stuck in. it's time he grew up for good.

SPIDER MAN IN EX3! KICKASS!
-
I have no real loyalty for Spider-Man. I thought the first two Raimi movies were fantastic (I know it's cool to hate on them now, but I don't wanna) and the third one was awful (primarily due to the inclusion of Venom who, to me, is one of the characters that reminds me of what sucked so much about comics in the '90s. He and Spawn) and should have focused more on Flint Marko and less of Peter acting like an a-hole. What I had heard about Raimi's idea for a 4th sounded great but it's the reboot age for genre films so they opted out. Whatever. I think this looks really cool. Kinetic and exciting with a little edge to it. Just so long as it has the heart that is so integral to the character (the Raimi movies did a great job with that) than I can dig it.

been skating since teens. Sorry, if you do a 360 flip. you are not an outcast and most definitely do not have the personality fo the peter parker from the comics. AND WHAT IS WITH THIS FUCKING EGO. MASKLESS SHIT. Christian Bale wears the Batman Mask whenever he is Batman, he's one of the best actors of all time already and he doesn't complain "show my face cunts! show my fucking face!" no. 6'1" puny Parker. Fuck this movie. Fuck this movie in its vagina

At my theater it got a lot of mumbles. None of which sounded terribly happy. One person even said "What did he say?" after Bane spoke. Oh, Avengers got an ovation at the end though. Best movie of the summer, hands down. Best superhero movie I've ever seen.

No magic on screen.

Saw a short interview with Stan Lee on Reelz channel I think it was. The interviewer asked Stan "Do you think we should have a new Spider Man movie SO SOON after the last one (4 YEARS AGO). Stan replies "How long should they wait?" He of course went on to say that Garfield is awesome as PP. But I expected that.

Maguire's Parker was likable. You rooted for him. The Peter Parker is this version no so much.
by Ingeld
He sounds like the high school kid who thought he was edgy and funny, but nobody else thought so. You know, clueless and uncomfortable to be around.
-
...no idea why there's all the hate. For ME, it was a movie full of magic. Loved it. This isn't an invitation to shread me apart for enjoying it.
-
Keep in mind, all we've seen of Peter is POST spider-bite. We don't know what he's like prior to that. I'd imagine any nerd who was suddenly powerful and confident would get a little cocky. I know I would have. I'm thinking, however, that they may be taking a "Good Will Hunting" approach. Super-intelligent kid from a poor family with a bit of a chip on his shoulder etc. etc.

On one hand, I don't think this movie is gonna be terrible. They've come a long way since 2001 on the FX, Spider-Man himself actually looks closer to the classic comic "Spider-Man" (skinny, smaller eyeholes, web shooters) than Raimi's version and even the Lizard doesn't really bother me -- are we really gonna bitch about "how bad the Lizard looks" after he fought X-Treme Boogie Boarder and melted black Spider-Man in the last movie?</p><p> What bothers me about this trailer, though, and I think, after long consideration, just THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN in general, is the fact that there's really nothing new here. This movie's undoing is simply going to be that they could have made this SPIDER-MAN 4 instead of an ill-advised reboot. More people would likely go see a SPIDER-MAN 4 than a reboot, even with the present cast playing the characters. Webb still could have introduced the elements that seem to set this one apart, like having Spider-Man actually have a sense of humor. Hell, they could even have used the suit redesign. I just think the "reboot" aspect is what everyone's having a huge problem with.

I don't give a fuck whether or not any of you agree.

Here's the problem: Hollywood hires these talented younger directors who show promise by making small films with a unique/quirky visual style (I haven't seen 500 Days of Summer, but from the trailer, I get the impression that Marc Webb has a good eye for
by P
Then they give them these enormous franchises with a team of technicians. By the time the thing is done, that original style is nowhere to be seen. Too many cooks in the kitchen and you just get, what looks to me, like a generic, moody Fincher pallatte, which is rapidly becoming a cliche itself.

We saw plenty of Maguire post spider bite, and he didn't get all cocky and unlikable. Perhaps it would not be unusual for the cockiness to occur, but it doesn't make me want to root for the hero. This is not Batman. The worst part of Spider-man 3 was the over done cocky Peter scenes. Even there, we were a bit forgiving, considering he was under the influence of the evil black sludge. Superhero movies are about fantasies. We want to see the hero as an extension of ourselves if we were granted super powers. We don't want to see that extension become the guy we could barely tolerate in high school with super abilities.

Shut up about stupid CGI fire! It's the most annoying drivel I have read so far this year....and probably still will be!
by Christopher Miller
We all get that the real thing is better, but WHO IS GOING TO FUCKIN' SET A REAL FUCKIN' BUILDING ON FIRE JUST TO FILL A 5 MINUTE SCENE IN A MOVIE?!?! No one, that's who. If you would, then you are as psycho as you seem to be about fire and need to probably be investigated for arson. Real fire looks great and works great on film, but no one has the budget to fly 1940's replica fighter planes and have them actually explode into real balls of flames just so you can feel like your disbelief is suspended for 30 seconds. I know this is a problem for you, because you made 3 or 4 posts already about real fire, and had to bring in another damn movie that you couldn't stand to watch because of fake fire...do you not actually think before you speak? We all know fake fire is fake and looks fake...but when is a movie going to have the budget to set the things on fire that you want them to, hanging from actual public used buildings, bridges, or anything else...just so you can get your kicks off about real fire? Try this for once...talk about something else...how bad the fuckin' lizard looks in this movie, or how good a choices they did for Parker's uncle and aunt...anything else...but fire. You make no argument or give it any new life but say that it looks like shit and you would rather set a real city on fire because it would look more real. Good for you...you probably have set real homes on fire, with sleeping children inside...that wouldn't surprise me one bit...

Much has been said already, but just want to come out and admit that trailer completely changed my mind. On paper, I previously had zero interest in another Spider-Man movie or what is in essence a re-boot. However, the colours and tone for those night action sequences look brilliant! How sharp was that?!?! And the weight and gravity to the swinging & wall-crawling looks amazing. The tension on the "web" line and Spidey's body bouncing during that giant swing looked about as non-CGI as you can get. I didn't want a re-boot so quickly. But I'd be lying if that trailer didn't completely sell me on this. Never doubted the talent involved, only the premise. But fuck it - that looks like a bad ass Spider-Man movie!
-
On this talkback anyway. They must get paid by the post.
-
Why is it that when anyone has something positive to say the cry of "plant!" gets thrown out? Is this what it's gotten to? All anyone has to say is negative crap about EVERYTHING? EVERYTHING. Why don't all of you get together (it would have to be after school, I would assume, since most of you are probably twelve, thirteen years old) and pool all of your vast film knowlege together and make your own movie?
-
That is so not true!
-
We know there's *A* mystery surrounding his parents. That's all. No one has said anything about it following the secret agent angle from the comics, nor that they were responsible for his origin. You understand what a trailer is, right? A 2 minute sequence of 1-4 second scenes stitched together with out-of-context dialogue and an unrelated soundtrack laid over it? FFS just see the movie first before you start complaining about a part of the plot that may not even exist.

If there were no Plants trying to hype this movie on well known film websites such as this one,
by Ingeld
then the movie studios are idiots who don't understand media and the power of the internet. Without even viewing the trailer, it is obvious that the movie needs hyping just to overcome the resistance from an audience who genuinely liked the first three movies which are still quite fresh in everyone's minds--particularly the second one--which has been hailed by some as the best super hero movie ever. Remember Ebert's review of Spiderman 2 " It's a superhero movie for people who don't go to superhero movies, and for those who do, it's the one they've been yearning for." A few interns paid with pizza and minimum wage to post how they can't wait or even how this trailer has magically convinced them when they were so previously skeptical is what the dumbest movie studio would do. Wouldn't you?

So tired of you dorks trying to come up with some lame excuse when people disagree with you. When they dislike a movie you like, it must be because they are "haters" who dislike everything or are trying to be cool. When they like something you dislike, they must be plants. Raimi made one decent movie out of three, which is a weak track record. Who cares how much time has passed? I hope they make a new Spiderman movie every year. I love the character. I love movies. Hopefully, sooner or later, they might actually make a Spiderman movie that I love. I like this trailer, especially the second half, so go fuck yourself.
-
I have a very nice life, thank you. One part of my life that I like is pointing out how people should be wary of media--particular advertising and PR. Large corporations will exploit all avenues in getting people to buy their products--including manipulation that falls below the radar. Don't you think that talkbackers who frequent sites like this should be aware that they may subtly be manipulated by such companies who are only interested in making a buck? Don't you think, they should learn to read such TBs a little more critically? Or should we simply accept what the media gives us at face value? I cannot accept that companies would not resort to such covert promotion as it is cheap and potentially very effective. They would be fools not to plant positive posts about movies such forums. I don't think they are fools. But I think we would be, if we accept every single one of these post gushing their admissions that this trailer has suddenly convinced them how amazing and fantastic this movie is going to be.

Think of how many great films it could have been used in to make them even better. Poison gas should have been used by Don Corleone to kill Don Ciccio in the "Godfather II". Atlanta should have been destroyed by poison gas in "Gone With the Wind". Everyone should have been killed by poison gas in "Ordinary People" and "The Big Chill".
-
Ha, ha. I can't argue with that retort. You have taken all my points, broken them down one by one, and showed why I shouldn't hold them. Well done!
-
And Peter's Father = Ultimate Spidey, which is also fucking ace, so qualms from me there My only worry is that this Trifecta of potentially awesome superhero movies - avengers, batman, spidey - will be so good, it will be the beginning of the end. This may well be the height of the cusp I fear is on the horizon. All downhill from here... God help you Superman (although I pray for you to be great too! Throw me a bone Snyder!!!)
-
All this complaining doesn't really matter because we all know just about everyone doing so will spend their money to see this regardless. I do think that if Sony wasn't doing this movie, and Marvel had got the rights back, and the movie was done in the same exact way, the complaining would be way less.

But... ...but you're WRONG. About the Raimi movies, anyway. You say "One" good Spidey movie and that's cataclysmically incorrect. His first 2 SPIDER-MAN films were fantastic. Fans thought so, critics thought so. The only reason the third failed was because Avi Arad and Marvel forced his hand on Venom. It's common knowledge. COULD he have made a great SPIDER-MAN 3? Absolutely. The script is out there. That was MARVEL's doing, not his. Two out of three isn't a bad deal, man. That being said: This doesn't look bad by any means so I do agree that I don't get all of the venom (no pun intended) being spit at it.

deusexmachina - Doubt Marvel would go this way
by the artist formerly known as messi
Kevin Feige may be many things (ie not the best with artistic decisions cos he's not a movie guy) but he is a big Spidey Fanboy and one thing he would say "what? Spidey is 28 years old and 6'1". and he skateboards? fuck this shit" and it wouldn't be all mopey. At the same time it might just be another cookie cutter comic book movie.
-
At the last moment, they realize that they actually agree and they should team up to fight evil. I get the same *vibe* from this, but man did they get Parker's humor right or what? That scene with the thief is PERFECT in tone. I hope there's a LOT of that in the movie. That was always the best stuff with Spidey for me, the sarcasm, the snarkiness, the quips. The insults. Hilarious when it was done right in the comics. I REALLY want this film to get it right. I enjoyed the Raimi films but I want this one to be better. I think what initially threw me and made it seem *off* was all that early talk about going for as much practical Spidey slinging as possible.... then seeing that teaser that looked like a CG game cut scene. It was..... puzzling. This trailer, however, looks just AMAZING! Be good, Spidey film. Please? If you are, this could be the best summer in movies.... possibly ever.
-
It works beautifully on Apple hardware. GO FIGURE! lol. Yeah it sucks on Windows. YouTube is getting annoying and choppy now for no good reason, too. Some videos just refuse to pre-load and when you try to go back to the beginning, instead of continuing to load the video, it stops and starts over. FRUStrating.
-
Talkbackers hyping up something this tired and mediocre-looking positively reeks of plantage. Avengers and Bats must have really put the fear into sony.
-
Everyone keeps saying things like that whenever a movie looks lame but no, not really.
-
It seems like this is Spidey Fans vs. People who are mad people hate this movie vs. Plants... The guy who said "I trusted the people behind the movie"... No fucking way. You trusted a guy who made ONE hipster flick to make a Spider-man movie? No fucking way. This looks "cool" for tweens. I'll give you that. But as a Spider-man movie it's getting... Well everything wrong. So fuck it. I'll also most likely avoid this in 3D since everything will be in darkness. I'll just buy a ticket for Battleship or whatever else is out and sneak into a 2D showing of this. Oh and a big fuck you to Webb and the producers who ever wrote this piece of shit for getting the Lizard wrong in every way. Now I could be wrong but how they are playing up that Connors is hiding some big secret about his parents is just fucking bullshit... Connors was a mentor to Peter and a friend... Not some bull shit secret enemy of his the entire time. Also it's pretty obvious they are going with the parents angle being spies. My only question is does Uncle Ben even die in this movie? Or are they just going the pure rip-off Batman theme here? It's really simple if you're a fan of Spidey you probably hate this... If you're an emo tween you'll love it. End of story.

Go ahead and call each and every one of them out. I'm curious. I think the last few years has taught us that sites like this have almost 0% effect on ticket sales, so get over yourselves.
-
It's going to kick all of the previous movies' asses.
-
And since you seemed to have worked yourself up into quite a nice lather over this, do you photosynthesize? You seem rather upset about me and others pointing out the obvious possibility that the movie industry may try such tactics.
-
It doesn't look great either, but I suppose it could just be me. 1- I really liked the first 3 movies, so the changes seem wrong to me. And Toby had quips- just not full monologues on his knees. 2- Does everyone know he's Spiderman? Seems like it. 3- It seems like Peter's parents were involved in turning Peter into Spiderman some how- wtf. 4- Lizard looks like Killer Croc I suppose if this was the first Spiderman movie I'd feel more positive about it. But to rip up everything Rami did- why?
-
The extra footage of New York being hit by a biological attack peaked my interest. It seems to have raised the stakes a bit and I like that. Plus the Green Goblin appearing to work behind the scenes seriously sparks my interest.
-
The film could have a lot of merit but to be following the Avengers in the Marvel films it would probably benefit so much more if it could tie in with continuity to the rest
-
Please use your keen eye for corporate propaganda and point out the plants on this talkback. Because everybody knows sites like this have a huge effect on ticket sales. "Scott Pilgrim" would have never had the rousing success it had if it weren't for the rave reviews on this site and in talkbacks. And the Transformers movies would have been huge if it weren't for internet critics and talkbackers trashing it. You're right. Sony must be shitting their pants because so many nerds are against this movie. No wonder they sent out an army of plants to change public opinion. So if you would please just do us all a favor and point them out, you'd be doing us all a huge favor.

Getting paid to tell lies, being on the internet... almost like working at FOX news.
-
i've noticed you and a few others mentioning green goblin in reference to that scene asking about "did you tell him about his father". I posted about this earlier. The person in that scene is Michael Massee, and the IMDb page says he's playing David Lowell, who actually becomes Sundown in the comic (Though he did develop a similar serum to the Goblin serum). So unless the IMDb page is wrong about the casting (possible, since they aren't always 100% correct), or they're making the first Green Goblin not Norman Osborn, it's most likely not going to go the GG route right away in this movie.

Look to the comment made by roman_troy_moronie. "My wife worked at Disney for years ...and told me how many that worked there in promotion and/or one of the Disney movie companies get online praising Disney financed movies and slamming any person on talkback threads that don't think it's a very good film. Soon after, she worked down the street in Burbank at Warner Brothers... same thing happening there." There is no reason to suggest that this is a lie. In regard to your request for me pointing out specific quotes, I suggest you read through all the post yourself. When you see one that is gushing on how this trailer has suddenly and amazingly changed his or her mind about this movie, then you have according to my keen eye--which you suggest I have--then I believe you will find the likelihood of a plant. If you disagree, you are more then welcome to believe everyone of these posts are from some sincere posters. I certainly won't lost sleep if you don't accept my critique. I really don't care if you agree with me. I think a more interesting question, is why do you care?
-
...but I'm sure some of the positive remarks are from genuine people who lack all sense of taste too.
-
1. They are clearly trying to reinvent the wheel with a new kind of backstory but everyone has always accepted the usual came across a spider etc.. Simple and would have worked fine. 2. The Dark Knight worked because its a darkest look at our own world and the challenges we face. It explores the darkest side of human nature and we can relate and be terrified by it. Meanwhile this is overly CGI reliant and takes away from that real world feeling of impending doom but also faith. 3. Well its CGI dominated. Im always amazed to see an unto date film do special effects no where near as good as was achieved in Jurassic Park from 93. The fake nature of this just makes it harder to buy the concept. I mean that fucking lizard sigh! 4. Frankly beyond the Dark Knight there have been increasingly better efforts made with super hero movies that are making these kind of inferior efforts just look worse. 5. There was a decent break between the appaling Batman and Robin and the Dark Knight series. Its obvious Sony rushed a revamp to compete with the Bat but I think they would have been better waiting out building up a want for a new Spiderman movie and actually doing it justice. Hell who knows maybe they could have got Nolan to write it he made the Bat a series of Superhero movies that no one is gona best anytime soon.
-
Just wanted to add it will FLOP as a movie and its already a bag of shite but spidey fans and 14yr old boys will make it a hit anyways. Still shite tho
-
Since the very first one, The Amazing Spiderman talkbacks have had a huge plants ratio. Any guy/gal who is a regular on this site can detect it right away, it's that obvious, it's jumps out of format. It's not hate towards people who have a different opinion, it's pointing to a very specific nickname and one-time comment, that have a strange look and feel, a bit like a human post Alien or Thing takeover, looks like a human, stink of a Plant. Most only post once, don't follow with dialog and never reappear in any AICN talkback, even Spidey related, a few exceptions aside. Their monikers are almost random, with no or little meaning, and their writing style is unexplicably not falling into AICN variety of styles, almost too clean, and always too positive. Obviously some guys are passionate about a movie and are wrongfully labeled as Plants, but usually they engage in dialog and disseminate into the -norm- if there ever was one here, except in a dysfunctional family diversity way. But Spidey TBs are invaded with Plants, no doubt.

I like the tone...dark... I feel like kravens last hunt could be next
by Ebixby
Not too happy about the origin change....seems unneccessary. They could have stuck with it and still done a story on peters parents... I am tired of this trope where the same accident that creates the hero creates the villain and it's all tied together...it's overdone. Sometimes the best villains have no real ties to the hero at all until they cross paths... Anyway, with that said, I hope this movie is better than spidey 3 by a large margin... Looks pretty fun... Anyone who is shitting on this is high. It looks serious and focused. I'll take that over the cheesiness of the Raimi movies, which where rife with coincidence and crappy writing...this feels like spiderman 2 but with more night scenes...I'll take it.
-
Everything else just seems so underwhelming now.
-
You said it very well. The plant posts have an artificial tone, vocabulary and sound to them.
-
Hey, nice spoiler! So Gwen finds out Spidey's secret identity. Good to have that revealed in the picture's trailer.
-
Have you seen the trailer for that Oz movie? Come on! Everyone knows Dorothy is a little girl, not a teenager. And what's with the red glittery slippers? Where are the silver slippers, Baum wrote about. This is a travesty! Now I hear John Ford is making a feature with some B actor named John Wayne. There's no way this dork will ever be a leading man. This is shaping up to be a horrible year in movies. Margaret Mitchell's snore-fest of a book. And instead of an American, they get some British bitch to play the lead southern belle. Jimmy Stewart playing a US Senator? Right! What's next, will we have some Austrian become Governor of California. We're lucky Rowland Lee has our back. Son of Frankenstein is going to rule 1939.
-
It's that a large percentage of Spidey fans just don't care about this. And I'm among them. Raimi's franchise (for whatever reason(s) you choose to believe) got all fucked up. But it's way, way too soon for this reboot/reimagining/whatever. I just don't care. It's not that it looks particularly bad (although, I really dislike the parents angle) - it just, again... practically no one cares. It's just ho-hum. Yeah, it's a Spidey movie. ...Cool, I guess. That's about it. I just have no excitement for this at all. And to whoeever said this trailer is amazingly well edited, etc... I just don't see that. It's the same exact trailer beat-for-beat we've been getting for action movies for nearly 20 years now: 1. Overly-dramatic narrative. 2. Cut to a couple quick flashes. 3. Narrative and images start to build slightly as the music begins to crescendo. 4. A huge explosion and/or blackout of the images happens for a second or 2. 5. And, then the final BOOM! noise. 6. Trailer cuts to silence along with film title and/or credits. Ripping on the trailer aside, again... This just doesnt' infuse *any* excitement in me at all. Not going to see it in the theatre, either. - not with Avengers, TDKR, and Prometheus hitting the screens. The best word I can use to describe this film: Unnecessary. And that's the problem, as I highly doubt that's the reaction Sony was going for.

It might be better quality, but it's clunky, barely works right and Apple likes to pick fights with other companies, so I suspect their player won't work with Chrome. <P> Fucking get it together Apple.

The only sin here is that they are even bothering with another origin story.
by Dr_PepperSpray
-
The previous incarnation started really well, and by that I mean literally just the backstory/intro scene of the first film, but quickly turned to insipid shit with the lowest point being reached with the Green Power Ranger badguy rounding out film 1. The less said about film 2 and especially 3 the better. I had massive hopes for THIS reboot but everything about just looks poor. Ah well, at least TDKR looks good.

Can they make a super-hero film without a masked hero being unmasked????
by planetran_fan

Has anyone else noticed Garfield's doing the same squeaky-voiced teen reading that Tobey Maguire used 10 years ago? I really don't see the point of this 10 years after the first one when there's really not going to be that much different - even the CG hasn't improved that much...although CG Parker climbing the wall in the first Spider-man was pretty terrible. I'll watch the new one at some point but odds are I won't have paid for it, unlike several other films I've messed my trousers over this year.
-
The studios give enough of a shit about what any of us think that they would even bother. Seriously- this sit emakes up, what- 1% of the final gross? (which is cautiously optimistic)<P> Myth 2: If someone has a positive or optimistic opinion of a trailer they must be a plant. Which really means, the lot of you are anal-retentive nit-pickers.

well if there are plants on this TB they've probably long since vacated the thread...
by darthSaul666
I'm sure Nerd Rage isn't a plant.... Just wants this flick to be the best thing ever....
-
Sure not every positive comment is a plant- I liked the Green Hornet quite a lot. But I do believe they exist! (Que creepy scary noise here)

Why change the costume? So in The Amazing Spider-Knight (eventual sequel) he finally gets the real one without the silver booties, pinstripes, and black airbrushed crotch? And why oh WHY can he not keep his effing mask on?

After seeing the Avengers I want to see something with more emotional heft, this looks like what I need

?....I thought he was a super-hero named spider-man. Wait, was Peter Parker injected with Jesus juice so that he could lead mankind into a new era of peace an harmony? I could deal with continuation of a series..but reboots can bite me....pass.

I have to say, this looked enormously better and cooler on screen before the Avengers
by kevred
It really does make a good case for the film. The 3D stuff looked pretty spectacular, and the Spidey-poses look even more authentically Spidey. Though the chosen-one stuff is just for the birds, and the "untold story" is not a story anyone's asking for. But then I saw Avengers, and this film looked really small again. Avengers and TDKR feel like events. The Raimi films felt like events. This one doesn't give off that vibe. Don't know if that will make any difference, but it's how it struck me.
-
This new Spiderman movie looks like dog shit. It reminds me of a made for Sci Fi channel movie. Utter shit. I pass.
-
You mean an annoying cosmetic detail that, at first, is kind of infuriating but, really, means absolutely ZERO in the long run? You are correct.

playkins, Plants are a business, and not just on AICN, nor just on movie sites:
by Franck
Many companies, all types of businesses, actually hire, officially, what you can call -internet trend pushers - they go into blogs, chats, basically any site where they can leave a positive comment about the movie, item, trend they are paid to promote. As an exemple, if you launch a new product, let's say a pen that writes upside down, you pay these companies, and they'll have dozens of people on their payroll doing just that for a contracted amount of time, usually right before and a bit after the product launch. It's a know business tool that has appeared in recent years, and they are instructed to use all the key words they want associated with the product in order to enhance their presence on google searches. Quite a system. Here they are called PLANTS.

"I've mad enemies....powerful..." That's a direct lift from the opening John Crichton voice-over on FARSCAPE.
-
I've been sucked in before and unlike films from yesteryear, big action set pieces are revealed way too much and plot points are opened. Sure, I know there needs to be a hook to pull me in to buy a ticket but as I've seen so many films, I can't help but figure I know this one inside out already.

I got so caught up in what I was doing I forgot all about it. He's gonna kill me.

Much more like it.

I hate all you fucking assholes for feeding the beast and allowing for this remake/reboot bullshit.
by IronEagle74
Damn you all to hell.

Please...post this so I can just watch it with VLC. Quick(hahahaha)time is old and in the way. Apple...where you can upgrade nothing, just buy the new version. Bite me, Apple....
-
Then Green Goblin should be the next villain. Then Carnage should be in the third film and... SPOILER... Have Carnage kill her. If this doesn't happen... This entire reboot is fucking pointless.

So we get some weird father killed mother but injected boy with secret sauce, dark angsty Christian Bale horrible Batman voice with mask on, Mutant ninja inventor, 30 year old playing a 16 year old, movie made by a music video director spiderman? This shit looks and sounds like Ang Lees the Hulk buttfucked Nolans Batman Begins and the buttbaby was this steaming pile of crap. This totally sounds and looks like the studio just wants to keep the rights to Spiderman and doesnt give a fuck how badly they fuck shit up.
-
Heath Ledger gives a legendary perfomance and we get idiots that think Spiderman the Dark Knight and Superman the Dark Knight are great ideas. Kevin Feige should go bitchslap those fucking morons at sony, and then offer to take the spiderman franchise back if they suck his dick for 20 dollars. Next up in Superman the Darkknight of Steel his costume will be black and he will wear black eyemakeup and cry a lot.
-
Marvel should just use the Avenger money to make a real life punisher guy to extort all their franchises back from these witless tools.
