ScoreKeeper Invites You To An Intimate Q&A With Danny Elfman!!
Greetings! ScoreKeeper here calling all film music geeks within 153,000 miles of Burbank, California, to attend an extremely special (and rare) live Q&A with film composer extraordinaire Danny Elfman.
On Tuesday, May 8th at 6PM at the historic Warner Bros Records Headquarters in Burbank, Grammy Award-winning and four-time Oscar®-nominated composer Danny Elfman will face a relatively small and intimate crowd of fans to answer questions. Even if you're outside the 153,000 radius of Burbank you can watch the event streamed live on the internet at www.lilvestream.com/dannyelfman where you can submit questions in real time.
The event will kick off the theatrical release of DARK SHADOWS (2012) marking the fourteenth collaboration between Elfman and director Tim Burton. A limited supply of 75 signed copies of the Danny Elfman & Tim Burton 25th Anniversary Music Box and 100 signed DARK SHADOWS soundtracks will be available for purchase at the event.
I have coveted the 25th Anniversary Music Box since its release a couple of years ago. Alas, the high price tag keeps this treasure just out reach; however, from May 7th through may 14th, the usually priced $499.99 mega-box-set will be lowered to $399.99 ensuring its painful temptation.
If you would like to attend the live Danny Elfman Q&A in Burbank be sure to send an RSVP email to dannyelfmanrsvp@gmail.com by Friday, May 4th.
Have fun everybody! Wish I could be there. Tell Elfman I said "Hi!"

Elfman is one of the last good film composers we have left...
by Nasty In The Pasty
...so quit it with this "he only writes the same score over and over" bullshit, okay?

How does it feel to be a complete joke in the industry. The man they call after everyone else says NO

I wouldn't be a good choice to go to this....all I'd ask would be about Oingo Boingo getting back together and if he ever tapped his niece-in-law.
-
with Oingo Boingo doing the theme song.
-
... but Elfman's said on several occasions there will never be a reunion tour because of hearing damage he's sustained from doing live shows. However, his single from "Wanted" was the only good thing about that movie. (The UNKLE remix isn't bad, either.) I kind of wonder what he would do if he created a rock or pop album with his musical sensibilities today. I never loved Oingo Boingo's last album; too much guitar wankery. But some of the polyrhythms and electro blips in the back of that "Little Things" song took me back to the days when I lived and breathed Oingo Boingo. If only he and the boys would just mess around in a studio and let us hear what happens... That'll never happen.
-
Nah, nevermind, we know the answer.
-
I am a film composer myself (early days) and am influenced by many composers, Elfman included. The only question I would ask is about how the Batman theme is exactly the same (orchestration and melody) in the intro as Journey To the Centre Of The Earth (BH). I mean, it's identical... tribute... or....
Aside from that, I think that he has certainly put his own stamp on things, and like it or not, it's hard to find one's own voice. He has - at least in recent years.
Compare Dolores Claiborne with Mars Attacks. The man can vary his style. Or Midnight Run with Beetlejuice.
-
I guess people really do like to hate on success.
-
Pee Wee's Big Adventure, Beetlejuice, Midnight Run, Batman, Nightbreed, Dick Tracy, Edward Scissorhands, Batman Returns, Mars Attacks!, A Simple Plan, Hulk, Hellboy II.
Suck it haters.

WHAT THE HECK HAPPENED TO SPIDERMAN 3?
-
During Spider-Man 2. Raimi temp tracked a bunch of Christopher Young Hellraiser music into it, and Elfman was not pleased (and rightfully so). They're supposed to be working together on that new Oz movie, so they must've buried the hatchet.
-
He has Midnight Run and Everything Else.

If you listen to the score for Hellraiser and the score for Batman, you'll hear the same opening notes: duh-duh-duh-DUUHHH-duuhh! No wonder Elman was pissed. Hellraiser came out before Batman if I'm not mistaken.

$400 or $500 for Elfman's soundtracks? Are the discs pressed in platinum?
by openthepodbaydoorshal
I'm not a Elfman hater, but thats insane. Ironically my favorites of his are not from Burton films, but are Nightbreed and A Simple Plan.
