ADDED INFO!!! Heads Up USC Film Geeks, Lucas and Kasdan are coming your way!!! Vague small Indy IV tidbit
Hola Mr Han, Harry here enjoying his carrot. That's right, I'm undergoing a crash diet. A dreadfully unhealthy one. There's no chocolate or meat or potatoes with sour cream or chocolate or chocolate or ice cream... oh baby... ice cream. And then there is the imminent threat of me joining a gym for 2 hours a day. HELP SOMEBODY GET THIS MANIAC OUT OF ME!!!! The folks on my make up staff say it's quite hard to disguise me, so... the diet thing. Don't worry though... I'm having egg whites injected directly into my heart... just to keep me healthy! MEANWHILE, George Lucas will be paying USC filmstudents a visit with Kasdan in tow. It's only for students apparently, but hopefully a good 400 USC fans of the site will attend and ask him about the GUNGAN connection with GUNGA DIN, or whether or not the Sith Witch is a load of crap, or why he can't issue a plain vanilla DVD of STAR WARS THE PHANTOM MENACE with no frills so we DVD owners that love the film can enjoy it! Well... that's a couple of questions, have at em folks!

Head Geek Boy...
Lucas AND the
panel (apparently, Lawrence Kasdan will also be in attendence but suddenly
it's a bit shady) will be at USC's Norris Theater on April 12, following a
screening of Willow @ 6pm. Unfortunately, a ticket system will be implemented
so only registered students can attend. Got any questions you want to ask?
(Besides "Jar Jar... what the fuck!?")
We had a screening of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade today and during
lecture three possible titles for Indy IV were mentioned: Garden of Life and
Lost Continent were the titles dropped, I didn't catch the other one. I
don't know a thing about all the Indy IV scripts floating about, but I do
know that Lucas has been in direct contact with our Professor for this
class... take it as you will.
Hope this is of interest...
BigJackieV
Dickie Greenleaf just filed this report from class...
Hi there! Just to add some more to the USC Indy IV scoop, since I, too, am in this George Lucas class...
Our professor, who is frequently in contact with Lucas, said Indy IV will be a joint venture between Lucasfilm and Dreamworks with Rick McCallum as producer. Our professor also said the film will be about ATLANTIS (in my opinion, a choice with lots of promise, though not Biblical) and was written by Jeffrey Boam! I do want to say, however, that I would not take this as 100% true fact as I am not sure where our professor got his information.
Your friend,
Dickie Greenleaf
PS Lucas and Kasdan will be joined by Frank Darabont, Howard Kazanjian (I think he said Kazanjian and it would make sense since K's son goes to USC) in the Q & A in two weeks, plus some others I believe. But don't plan on trying to get in...we have been informed that only students in the class will receive tickets for this event. But be sure that there will be plenty of from the class including me to give you the lowdown of what was discussed and what more will be coming.

Considering everyone else from the Lucas class is talking, I might as well add my own comment. The add-on needs a slight correction...Our professor said it would be a co-production of Dreamworks and Paramount (they must have some kind of deal that gives them rights to the sequels), although Lucasfilm will, of course, be involved as well.
-
So they are not going for the sons of darkness script? THANK GOD! that script was a pile of shite. Atlantis.... well, that would be like that lucasarts Indiana Jones and the quest for atlantis videogame, wouldn't it? Harry, crash diets are the way to go (seriously), exercise, that's good too. CYL

by cereal killer
Is it just me or was "Raiders" the only good Indy movie?**** I hope that the presence of Kasdan means that he and Lucas are working together again. Maybe Kasdan can give George some help with the next two "Star Wars" movies and we can be spared the torment of having the entire prequel trilogy suck as much as "Phantom Menace" did.**** BTW, this is the Talkbacker formerly known as Naughty Sauce. I needed a change.

I saw this sotry and thought what a blast we had doing the skit for the first USC class. I was the Royal Guard (who didn't do a whole lot). We did digitize the footage and have it on the Net. If anyone is interested, I can post the URL.

because Kasdan helped make the OT the films they are today. As for Indy IV...I read the scriptment about a year back on Coming Attractions about Indy IV, and it didn't sound very promising - in fact, it sounded dumb as all get out. There is no need to make Indy movies into some special effects extravaganza. That's not what they're about. They're about a great character, and some kick-ass action set pieces. The special effects were always secondary, and served the plot. I hope it's good, but count me as doubtful.

Even if he decided to sellout and make a popcorn movie, I'm sure they'd be much better than "Space Wars". And they'd have cool titles like, you know, Mission Impossible, Snake Eyes, Mission To Mars...you know. Classics.

This is getting out of hand. Did Lucas run over your dog or something?

theatre at my school showed all three back to back to back. It was so cool. ALL of them were quality! There may be varying degrees of it, true, but they ALL kick ass! Anyone who says differently needs their head examined. . . and PS- Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis is the best adventure game ever. Just port that and throw in a few more action sequences, BOOM! you got a sequel right there!

There are supposed to be episodes 7 thru 9 dealing with emperor(dead?), Han and Leia's marriage and the children, Han and Lando's death, and the Kyber(or Cyber) Crystal.

If he did issue a vanilla DVD, wouldn't he just get flamed by you guys for "TRYING TO GET OUR MONEY TWICE" I have a feeling that if it had been that way we'd have 24feet worth of scrolling flame in TalkBalk right now. Just saying.
-
Aw, c'mon. I liked my idea of Indy going for the sword used by Mohammed's cleric while Islam was getting started. It's another monotheistic religion with old testament connections. Oh, well. If it's a garden the story uses, maybe it'll be the Garden of Eden.
-
Let's look at Lucas's "crimes" here.
1) Releasing a film a lot of people here didn't like.
2) Not releasing it on DVD.
3) Making the widescreen version rather expensive.
I hope you'll forgive me if I'm not ready to call him the scum of the Earth just yet. -
I hope I'll at least see something to back all this bitterness towards the lack of a SW:TPM DVD next week when the VHS comes out. If everyone is right and speaks for the masses, then we should see some pretty dismal sales for the VHS. But if the VHS
sells like hot cakes, then it just proves that all of you are hypocrites and probably bought it anyway. I personally won't buy it, it's
not just a Lucas boycott kind of thing... I just haven't bought VHS in over two years and I'm not going to start now.

I am amazed that the talk back seems to be this sort of anti-Lucas forum. Those of you who accuse George Lucas of being a baby for not realeasing the Star Wars films and the Indy films on DVD seem to be missing the fact that there are still a whole bunch of classic films that aren't on DVD. And I still don't see any future release dates for them. Why don't you guys bitch about Francis Coppola? He seems to be more interested in what his chardonnay tastes like than releasing The Godfather trilogy on DVD. Steven Spielberg has only mainly his crap movies: Always, 1941, and Hook. The only great Spielberg film on DVD is Saving Private Ryan. Where's Jaws? Where's Close Encounters? Where's E.T.? Where's Schindler's List??? Why aren't you guys bitching about the fact that Robert Zemeckis has yet to release the Back to the Future trilogy? Why hasn't he released Forrest Gump? There are still Star Trek films that aren't out yet! Why don't I have a copy of Wrath of Khan? My VHS copy is so old and wore out, but I still haven't heard about it's upcoming release date on DVD. So I think before you are so quick to bash George Lucas for not putting Star Wars out on DVD, just realize that there are a whole group of guys out there that need bashing then. Not just one.
-
I see it now, Indiana Jones discovers Atlantis and it's the ruins of Otah Gunga...or Indy digs deep into the Egyptian pyramids and discovers (more) hieroglyphics of R2-D2, finally completing Lucas' cross merchandising cycle.

by lostoptimist
A while ago--Maybe 6 or 7 years ago--Dark Horse Comics came out with a 4 issue Mini-series that was 'supposedly' based on an INDY script that never got past the development stage. Just wondering if this is it. If I recall, the comic wasn't too bad. In fact, might force me to dig it out of the ol collection and give it a read.
-
Dunno about you guys, but I could care less about the 4th installment until the goddamn series is released on DVD! What's the deal anyway's?
-
Hmmm, this sounds suspiciously like that computer Indy game from waaaay back when. You might remember collecting some dumb ass beads to power machines and fight the Nazis. Well, we all know how people on this site feel about video game movies. So, looks like Lucas just dropped a few more points. Man, looks like these kids are really wasting their money for some easy A's nowadays.
-
How can Jeffrey boam write the script to the new movie? He died a couple months ago.
-
I don't argue that this Collector's Edition VHS may be a bullshit thing. The Star Wars films may very well be the last major set of classic films to be released on DVD. This however doesn't change the fact that I believe that before every one gets into a hype about what a DVD-Nazi George Lucas is, take a look and see what I see every time I go to my local Best Buy's DVD section. Movies that I'm not interested in buying because the ones that I do want to own are not out yet. I think that if we want to push George Lucas for the Star Wars DVD's, let's also tell Coppola, Spielberg, Zemeckis, and the others that we want these movies out now. If we cause enough noise instead of hurling insults, if we could be a true movement instead of stupid fanboys wanting to call people four letter words, we can get our movies out on DVD. We have to accept the fact that we're not going to get some of these movies tomorrow, but let's at least light the match that started the fire.
Now as for the Collector's Edition VHS, letterbox is still a better picture than pan and scan. I will give George Lucas thirty-some dollars of my hard earned money for a stupid mini art book, fifteen minutes of behind the scenes crap, and a small piece of film. And do you guys want to know why I'm going to do this? Because I'm going to sit back, turn on the surround speakers and watch that little Skywalker punk win that pod race again, and not spend the next five years throwing a fit about George Lucas not putting it on DVD. -
If the original Indy was filmed almost 20 years ago (set in 1939?) that would mean that Indy 4 would have to at least be set sometime in the 50's, right? So who are his enemies then? Why not do an Indy prequel for that matter, where we see Indy working with Prof. Ravenwood etc. Most importantly, let's see the "grittier" Indy of Raiders with "dry" humor occasionally breaking up the dead seriousness in the movie, rather than the low IQ slapstick comedy relief being interrupted by the action, like the last 2...sort of like other movies Lucas has made! It's hard enough to get an audience to suspend their disbelief. Why do more and more movies spend huge sums on FX for realism but then have their characters spout out clever cornball one-liners in a big battle when their lives are supposed to be in danger? (I still like Lucas's later stuff though, just not as good as his early 80's work.)
-
The title of the Indy IV movie,-'TOMB RAIDER'
-
Has anyone else seen this thing. IT FUCKING ROCKS. Great transfer. Great navigation. MAD MAD MAD amounts of cool extra crap. This is truly a SPECIAL edition. I'm just saying this here because I haven't heard much talk on this. Please discuss.
-
I agree that Mr. Lucas may very well have a dislike of the format, but that still doesn't explain to me one thing. What does George Lucas gain by not releasing the films on DVD?
-
Since damn near every copy of Academy Award nominated films were sent to members on DVD, would it be logical to suspect there might be a very few of them in existence??? (Realizing that Kevin Smith has an Academy screener DVD of "Magnolia," which isn't even out on VHS, yet.) Will the Academy be our source for bootlegs galore?
-
Hey, I love ESB as much as th' next rabid fanboy.
But let us never forget that Kasdan was quite proud (at least in interviews on Premiere and Starlog magazines) of th' horrible tripe known as "Robocop 2."
Hmmmm.......What if Verhoeven directed Episode 2?
Three breasted buck nekkid Sith Witches, a nice splatterific demise for everybody's favorite Gungan, and maybe even Kyle "Paul M'uad D'ib" MacLachlan as a nasty Sith Lord?! Ohhhhh baby....... -
Still.
Kasdan gave us (*shudder*) "Wyatt Earp."
"Tombstone" forever! -
I agree with another writer, that why aren't the Dvd's of Robert Zemekis, F.F. Coppola, and the best of Spielberg's and Lucas's released yet? Flame them too for the same damn thing, we all should. The thing that bugs me is that Lucas is dedicated to audio
& video greatness for everyone everywhere; yet releases a completly inferior VHS ST:TPM with crappy "extra" features. On top of that he releases Laserdisc to soley Japan for the price of $100, and you can bet pirated copies are already being made into dvd format. Yeah this is maketing; why?...Because Japan is the only big laserdic market left & other countries who still have laserdisc will be itching to get this and pay tremendous amounts to get it.
Even though everyone bitch's about vhs, everyone knows they will buy a copy, even if is just a throw away copy to own only. But as one website put it.... there already is a superior disc player being invented that is even superior to dvd (yes its true, and i know technology will always get better and he can't wait forever to release his movies on the best otherwise they would never come out), although i forget the name and the technology specifically. I assume with the problems of laserdiscs early outdatedness, he might just be biding his time until this brand new medium is invented along with the others. Who the hell knows, he prolly will release a brand new special edition for more money, and the first trilogy and special edition
first trilogy for like $100 per dvd. I love lucas, but hes becoming microsoft and disney rolled into one. -
OK, I'm just gonna make this as clear as possible for all you Indy fans out there expecting an Atlantis adventure:
IT WON'T HAPPEN!
Indy IV is going to involve Buddhism. "Raiders" involved Hebrewism, "Temple" involved Hinduism, and "Crusade" involved Christianity. Next up: Buddhism or maybe Muslim. Lucas has said that he wants to incorporate every one of the major religions in the Indy series before it's through, so we can expect at least one more. And it won't have anything to do with Atlantis. -
This relates to a class at an esteemed university? Oh, I thought we were funnin' around. Anyway, Hey Harry, for what its worth, my advice is skip the crazy mad crash diets and go full vegetarian. With no animal fats in my diet I've lost 30+ pounds over a few years without craving or missing anything (individual results will vary) You will be amazed at the diverse array of very tasty products made from the wonder bean soy (try White Wave/tm chocalate soy drink to get that thick rich chocolate taste you must be craving right now, for instance). Try Boca Burger (original variety) for a very beefy-tasting burger with minimal fats (none from animal sources). you'll feel better, look better, and the world will be healthier.
-
I've yet to see a convincing vegetarian substitute for BBQ Ribs.

WARNING: THIS IS A RANT. NOT EVERYBODY WILL BE PLEASED WITH WHAT I HAVE TO SAY.
The more I write, the more I deal with the practical aspects of creativity, the more I understand one thing: You have to leave room for creativity.
I've recently have been learning the use of a computer animation program known as Lightwave 3-D.
I'll tell you, the program kicks ass in what it can do. But there is a price to be paid for the awe-inspiring power that this program uses. You have to leave room for creativity. There are a million things that come together into creating an object, moving it and texturing it, especially if you want it to be realistic in how it moves.
Writing, as I earlier discovered, is the same way, especially when you speak of doing it realistically. It is an involved process and not everybody reaches the quality they desire in the first try. All processes in creative arts require you to have an idea of what you want at first, and the ability to throw away those things over time that are substandard or unwanted.
I try to do the best I can in the first draft, to where everything starts somewhat right, and I can build on things from there.
But I have to admit that this is MY strategy, and it benefits ME to have it. Such a strategy may not allow other people to successfully work out a story. Heck, it may not enable me to do it either.
I guess the point is that not everything good starts out that way, and nobody starts with the perfect draft. -
FADE IN: A BASE CAMP ON (deliberately blank)--NIGHT
We see several tents through a light snowfall. The TITLE:
Deliberately left blank
1942
appears on the screen.
Closer now, a silhouette of flames dances on the canvas of the largest tent. Inside, the low chatter of a campfire tale is periodically broken by deep, masculine laughter.
Over the voices, we hear the sound of human footsteps in the snow. A man in cold-weather mountaineering gear trudges into the camp, his features obscured by the darkness. He seems injured. His knees finally crumple, and he collapses face-forward in the cold, ivory powder.
A drunken man, STEPAN, emerges from the main tent. He stumbles toward the fallen mountaineer and bends down to the body. He rolls it over to see a badly mutilated head and bloodied jacket.
Sucking in a long, hard breath, Stepan rises to his feet and yells. Several men rush from their tents, gathering around the corpse.
FIRST MAN
Stepan! What has happened?
STEPAN
We must go back! We must return
to Arguri! God forbids us to go
further!
Stepan retreats to his tent. The other men unzip the corpse's hood.
SECOND MAN
(looking at the body)
Abovian. I told him not to go out
unarmed.
ABOVIAN'S face is severely lacerated, his chest riddled with bullet holes.
THIRD MAN
Just like Patar! (looking around)
They are picking us off like helpless flies.
Stepan reappears with a backpack hung over his shoulders.
STEPAN
God sent him as a warning! If we
don't leave now, we will all die!
A disembodied hand wheels Stepan around.
INDIANA JONES
(O.S)
Hogwash!
A flaming torch is thrust into Stepan's face by INDIANA JONES, bundled in a fur-lined parka and sporting a full beard.
Title and other details to follow.
