John Ary here with a quick look at a few action figure lines that are making headlines this week...
Avengers Series 3 from Hasbro
Here’s the third wave of 3.75-inch movie figures from Hasbro. Black Widow, Hawkeye and (if this is a spoiler or just a way for Hasbro to cash in on an old figure mold, I don't want to know) a Skrull Soldier make up the set. These will release sometime in May.
Commander Neyo from Sideshow Collectibles
Ne-Yo is a quintuple threat: an actor, dancer, record producer, BlasTech DC-15A Long Range Blaster Rifle and R&B performer... Hold on... Nowhere on his Wikipedia page does it mention his service in the galactic clone army? I'll have to add that in later. This 1/6 scale clone commander features a modified phase II helmet, a fabric body suit, a shoulder bell 7 harness, a full body armor set, 13 interchangable hands, two pairs of boots, over 30 points of articulation, a blaster rifle and carbine, and the Sideshow exclusive version has a special 91st Reconnaissance Corps’ display base. He’s up for pre-order here with an arrival date of August.
Night Fighter Robocop from NECA
Those lucky guys over at ActionFigureInsider.com got the exclusive first peak at NECA’s new Night Fighter Robocop. NECA plans to take the mold of their last Robocop figure (see our review of that version here) and make it glow. That may sound lame at first, but it will all be done as a throwback to the Kenner Robocop series from the 80's with retro-style packaging. Still not convinced this is good news? Check out the back of the packaging. In the future we will have a Robocop toy with a spring activated holster. Let me type that again… A SPRING ACTIVATED HOLSTER. I hope this isn’t just some cruel joke. The Night Fighter Robocop will release this summer as a Toys R Us exclusive.
Naked Snake and The Boss from Hot Toys
Two characters from Konami’s classic gaming series will soon be inducted into Hot Toys’ new 1/6 scale VideoGame Masterpiece Series. The Boss and Naked Snake will each feature more than 28 points of articulation, sculpted hair, 6 interchangeable hands, a bunch of weapons, a sneaking suit costume and a figure stand. Each figure will cost $215 when they arrive in December. Here are the pre-order links for Naked Snake and The Boss. We have more pics of these figures posted here and feel free to make as many boob jokes about The Boss figure as you want in the talkbacks below.
Create Your Own Super-Hero Kit from Emce Toys
Emce Toys first brought us the Create Your Own Zombie kit. Now the company has moved on to Super Heroes. Here’s what you’ll find in the box: 3 articulated base bodies (4-inches tall), 5 heads with different mask and hair configurations, two pairs of spare hands, two capes, two brushes, 6 plastic jars of paint and one decal sheet. The kit will release this "Holiday Season" for around $30.
And finally this week, Time to Play got the first look at Batman's new flying vehicle from this summer's The Dark Knight Rises. No real spoilers here unless Batman loads himself into a secret compartment and is then spring-launched out of the aircraft by a 50-foot man who likes toys.
