We Already Know THE AVENGERS Is Gonna Make A Ton Of Money, But These Numbers Hint At Just HOW Much...

Merrick here...

For a variety of reasons, we tend not to focus too heavily on box office numbers here on Aint It Cool News - usually making only passing allusion to them at best.  But some of the indicators / numbers preceding THE AVENGERS' impending North American release were so astonishing that we simply had to share.

Per a press release from movietickets.com...

MARVEL’S THE AVENGERS is pre-selling more tickets for the upcoming release than the online ticketing company sold for CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER, THOR, IRON MAN 2, and IRON MAN combined at the same point in the sales cycle for each film.
In fact, pre-sales of MARVEL’S THE AVENGERS is over one and a half times that of these past Marvel films combined sales at the same point in the sales cycle.
MARVEL’S THE AVENGERS is selling 3,995% more tickets than CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER at the same point in the sales cycle.
MARVEL’S THE AVENGERS is selling 1,034% more tickets than THOR at the same point in the sales cycle.
MARVEL’S THE AVENGERS is selling 114% more tickets than IRON MAN 2 at the same point in the sales cycle.
MARVEL’S THE AVENGERS is selling 1,406% more tickets than IRON MAN at the same point in the sales cycle.
56% of pre-sales for MARVEL’S THE AVENGERS are from fans wanting to see the film in 3D.
Nearly 37% of pre-sales for MARVEL’S THE AVENGERS are from moviegoers buying tickets to see the film in IMAX 3D.

Per THIS piece at Deadline, the film has already opened spectacularly overseas - around $17 million in a very short period of time says BoxOfficeMojo.

At last night's Austin screening of the film, Harry and I were talking about the primal, knee-jerk reaction people seem to be having to seeing these heroes assembled (ahem) on-screen.  I've encountered a number of folks who hadn't shown interest in the films of Avengers who've had solo adventures thus far - but are going out of their minds waiting to see 'em together here.  And the response to early screenings of THE AVENGERS?  Let's just say...there were shouts of support and loud applause erupting throughout last night's Austin presentation.  I've heard many similar stories from other screenings.  And that 95% fresh rating at Rotten Tomatoes doesn't seem in danger of dipping too much further downward.

We'll see what happens when the picture opens in North America next week...

Though there's only a 10% chance of that.

  • But if Avengers is as appealing and awesome as it seems to be, this could end up winning the year.

AVATAR only had to contend with Sherlock Holmes and then the winter wasteland before Alice in Wonderland came along. This is a loaded summer.

Don't care about it beating Avatar...

    by Hipshot

But as a Marvel fan, I'd love to see it trash DKR. That would be SO much fun...I mean, I loved Heath Ledger as the Joker, and own the DVD, but never got the extreme adoration. Let the games begin.

You know I would agree with you but. I said there is no way in hell Avatar would beat Titanic. No way a Strange Sci fi movie from the same director. Could do it twice. Boy I ate my own words with that one.

joss will take the clout he got from this movie

    by emeraldboy

and sign a deal with Warners to Make the Justice league movie... DC will take note...

  • They won't be able to understand what makes The Avengers work, and just assume that a team-up movie is all you need to make money. After all, execs saw the numbers from Avatar and Alice in Wonderland, and just said, '3D will net us lots of money!'

  • April 26, 2012 1:34 PM CST

WB will inevitably respond with Justice League.

    by Jethro Bodine

If Snyder knocks Man of Steel out of the park, he may be their go-to guy, with Nolan as executive producer and story godfather. It only makes sense. But you have to wonder whether Bale would be on board with a new franchise where he wouldn't be the central figure.

  • April 26, 2012 1:34 PM CST

    Is the 3D good?

    by eric haislar

or should I see it in 2D. Anyone?

  • April 26, 2012 1:38 PM CST

This SHOULD be the biggest movie of the year

    by A for Aristocrat

No way it's going to beat Avatar but I don't see anything that can beat it after the Hobbit reviews. As for the DKR, I have a horrible feeling about that one. I dont think it will even be in the top 5 this year.

  • April 26, 2012 1:38 PM CST

Saw it this morning in Dublin and it's fucking great..

    by Baron Von Penguin

I went in hoping it wasn't going to be shit like Captain America which left a very sour taste in my mouth. I have to say Whedon handles all the characters brilliantly and gives the "lesser" ones (I mean for the average audience members who have not read the books) like Hawkeye plenty of screentime. Loved Ruffalo's turn as Banner too and I'm actually glad Norton fucked off. The only thing that bugged me is Scarlett Johansson (probably spelled her name wrong there), she's just too weak an actress to carry the role off and that fucking pouting face of hers!!! Fucks sake love we get it, you're sexy. I should also mention that I saw it in 2D as I wear glasses and the novelty of wearing spectacles to watch a film wore off about thirty years ago for me. Fans will not be disappointed!

  • April 26, 2012 1:38 PM CST

    See it in 2D

    by vadakinX

There are dimly lit scenes, especially in the beginning, where the film suffers due to the 3D. In fact the 3D doesn't add anything to the film.

unless snycopy, nolans production company goes to DC and things start happening. With legendary pictures on board. its a very talkbacker thing to say that an unreleased and still in development movie will bomb. but if man of steel does well. dc eying marvel will start to pull together a justice league movie.

I just hope 3 3D showings in a row won't melt my brain. 856 Minutes of awesome.

  • I'm sure a lot of people will see it, love it, and make it a ton of money. Probably will end up in the top 5 films of the year, money-wise. But it ain't Return of the Jedi, Episode III, or Return of the King. It's the third in the Batman Begins series, ultimately, without the tabloid interest of TDK.

  • I'm waiting for the press release. It may even be written already.

There's a typo at the end of your first sentence, Merrick. It should read: "For a variety of reasons, we tend not to focus too heavily on box office numbers here on Aint It Cool News - usually making only passing allusion to them at _worst_." In fact, not to pile on the grammatical nitpicking, but considering how much there is to write about the film, the post as a whole makes for a totally unsatifying review. But that's all right. I'll just walk down the street and watch it instead.

    by TheSquifster

Just seen The Avengers today in good ol' Blighty and must say believe the hype people! Whedon "Smashed It" The balance of characters is perfect the levels of action and humour are outstanding. This is what everyone hoped and prayed the film to be!!!! Outstanding! Brilliant! Awesome! Totally think Mark Ruffalo's portrayal of Banner is the best yet! My only criticism would be I didn't want it to end! The way each of the characters bounced off of each other was outstanding the beat downs were carried out perfectly! Ruffalo Smash!

Too bad we won't see Bale in the JLA movie

    by amrisharmpit

It's a shame that WB will have to recast Batman for Justice League, but this is what happens when you have no plan for your superhero franchises. If WB wants to follow Marvel's lead, they should wait a few years, let Cavill do his Superman movie, then do stand-alone movies for The Flash, Wonder Woman, and a new Green Lantern (but a different character, like John Stewart, or Guy Gardner). Then bring 'em all together for JLA. Maybe the new actor for Batman could springboard from JLA into a rebooted Bat-trilogy of his own.

Personally, DKR haven't given us a trailer but once its release, who the fuck knows what will be in it. Marvel better ride The Avengers and ride it hard.

If you think the other Marvel movies are all utterly amazing then this will probably seem like the Second Coming, but if you don't...well, let's just say that Abrams' Trek and Singer and Vaughan's X-flicks do the whole ensemble thing far more elegantly and effectively than The Avengers.

Green Lantern, Superman Reboot, Batman Reboot coming, failed Wonder Woman, talk of a Flash movie, and killing the CGI Justice League movie. The key is for two or three of those to be hits. So far Batman is the only one doing well and they're rebooting it after this.

DC's Characters havent the proper grounding

    by rakesh patel

ive waited for GL as long as the avengers. You can see how one faithfully translates to the big screen and the other a shit fest. marvels has had its share of not so great releases. but it learnt from its mistakes. it hired some great directors who had the right visons for the characters and finally a director who could jump off because of his background from what was out there, and mesh it together. It takes time. its not a quick process. there's a hell of a lot riding on the man of steel. if it is complete shit, expect the jla to be the same.

Saw it today i'm 46 made me feel like i'd just seen Star Wars at 12....... It's the real deal superhero film..... Joss did a great job on this i didn't think he had it in him but he proved me wrong. I could live with Titanic being no.1 but Avatar !!! It's not good enough to have that prestige.... the AVENGERS however is.

    by u.k. star

The 3D is very well used and certainly adds to the experience. We've seen it in 3D twice and definitely recommend it. If it is dark you need to talk to your cinema...They have not got their projector light up high enough. Both of my screenings had no darkness issues at all. This is a great film,, very good "blockbuster" entertainment and easel one of the best films of this type ever made. Humour, action, thrills, tragedy....the lot! I'm already looking forward to the next time I can see it.

Only one theater in town showing it, only once daily, in English (instead of the 8000 places showing it in the full-retard dubbed version), --I was worried that all the positive buzz and reviews gave me sky high expectations that had set the bar too high. SO fucking wrong! Movie blew me and everyone else there away. BRILLIANT!! Somebody give Whedon 200 million a year and as many BJ's as he wants to make an Avengers movie annually! Pitch perfect tone, action, humor and SMASHING!! Hulk and Stark stole the show in the last 40 minutes. Un fucking believably good movie...

    INCEPTION

    by frankenberry

Certain people keep insisting The Dark Knight Rises won't have huge box office numbers because it doesn't have a villain as well known as The Joker. I'd suggest they go check out the numbers for Inception. Heather Ledger wasn't in that film either. Inception's numbers came from the anticipation and reception of a Christopher Nolan film after The Dark Knight.

  • April 26, 2012 3:20 PM CST

Just seen it here in the uk...

    by Y282

Just got back from seeing it. It's every bit as good as previous posters. Some thoughts... Ive never been so relieved to hear acdc. They finally got dr banner right. The vfx are excellent, top notch. There are some very big laughs, quite a few from hulk/thor and a big one from hulk/loki. The villain is great. I'm DC through and through but i must confess to some huge geek out moments watching this. It's just EXCELLENT.

  • Will they have to go the "serious" route? I ask and am concerned because I Definitely Defer to DC, but if Green Lantern (which of course was awful) and the animated movies (which have been wildly inconsistent - some good some bad, but none really worthy of the big screen) are any indication, Warner might never be able to recover...

The fabled Spinal Tap 11 out of 10 isn't enough. Can Joss please make all the Marvel movies from now on? First time in ages I've been at the cinema where the crowd was just regular people, not geeks, and they were laughing and cheering with what was going on on screen. If there was one tiny flaw, it's that the final scene didn't have any Ooomph which could have triggered rapturous applause.

Avengers is gonna rock the box office!

    by batmancw

Though I'm obviously a huge Batman fan & i think Nolan's bat films are masterpieces, I CANNOT WAIT to see this next week. Like Batman, i have loved these heroes since my childhood & to FINALLY see them on the big screen, all together, in a film that does them justice...Im getting goose bumps just thinking about it. And unlike many who are also expecting TDKR to be an epic conclusion to Nolan's trilogy, but for some crazy reason are hating on the Avenegrs--I have absolutely NO PROBLEM if the Avengers brings in more at the box office--after all, Nolan is done with Batman & he's gonna be re-booted yet again, BUT--we have at least 2 MORE Avengers films to come!! Excelsior!

    by onetallmidget

This film is a win for us fans of this kind of genre. I love it when we get films like this that succeed. I really want Bat Man and Man of Steel to be amazing too , even the Amazing Spiderman. There is plenty of room at the top , its the bottom that is too crowded.

  • American-, You don't need a review. You need it to be next week already.

  • Not much going on but a plane getting ripped up. Bane speaking all funny. Granted an extended trailer might hype it up some, but come on, you got the mfn Avengers and all you have is the Bats, Catwoman, and Bane. Maybe League of Shadows. If it was any other year Batman would rule. But it's been a while since the last one and this doesn't have much except the hope that Bats gets broken. But even then, where's Azrael? And even mentioning Hunger Games (I know, it made a shitload of money) in the same breathe should get you bitch slapped. No offense.

Nolan = Box Office. Didn't work with Insomnia or the Prestige

    by Domi'sInnerChild

There's a small segment that will see whatever he does (just like Whedon), but I don't think his name has the recognition to put that many butts in the seats (like Cameron). I'd be willing to bet you'd be lucky to find 2 out of 10 people who could name the director of a Batman movie and most of them will probably say Burton. Inception did well because it had a great trailer and word of mouth.

  • The Dark Knight and Inception have made Christopher Nolan a household name.

  • April 26, 2012 3:45 PM CST

I have a feeling this wil outgross TDKR

    by Phategod2

I hate to be morbid but unless a major cast member dies I dont see TDKR having the legs of TDK. The Dark knight was the perfect storm of a great performance, death of a rising star, easy to follow plot. I just don't see that repeating itself.

Nolan's name doesn't get people in the theater?

    by Randy

That's right, because Inception didn't make 825 million worldwide. Seriously, people need to understand that after TDK, Nolan became a household name and Inception just proved it. and Insomnia was a hit, it had a budget of 46 million and made 113 million worldwide. Also, the prestige had a budget of 40 million and made 110 million worldwide. Actually, every movie he has ever made has made profit.

DC is dying a slow death

    by A for Aristocrat

They can't start a franchise to save their life anymore. They had the perfect start with Batman Begins and they squandered it all with Superman Returns, Green Lantern, Jonah Hex....etc. etc. All they have left are stunts and reboots to keep their comics going and that will only last so long. I was always a DC kid but after the Marvel movies I am leaning more and more to them. At least Marvel respects its history (unless you are spider man.)

    by Toby Wan

about Ruffalo as Banner. Do you guys think they will give him a shot in a stand alone Hulk flick? I liked BOTH of the previous movies, but Bana and Norton came off as kinda boring. And, Norton, while being a phenomenal actor, is a class A douchebag. 7 days until I get to see the film I have been wanting to see my whole life......

darth_meh, You want to see this in 3D??

    by moorE12

  • ....The movie is a series of moments rather than a coherent story that runs through the movie. For me there was just far too much being told which in the end gave no real investment of interest. whedon crams a moment in for just about everyone which basically means it's like a series of sketches, bang, bang, bang, speaking of bangs, if sfx spunk fest is your thing you'll like this, but the fx were pretty average at best - as much as i hate the transformers movies their sfx are pretty top notch, and the avengers doesn't come close to that level. Actually Iron Man 2 is better for cgi. The avengers is more of a movie to you go see to tell people you've seen that movie with all the comicbook characters in it, as an event it's fun and fine for a few hours - hulk is the best character, but like dr lecter he's not on the screen as much as you think, his 'smack my bitch up' scene with loki is another funny one. the hype for the movie has been immense, and i think that is due to the fact it's not as meaty as you think, after seeing the movie and reflecting on it afterwards i was surprised how easily forgettable it was. Typical summer fodder for the marvel fans, for me not as good as Iron Man 1 - still the best - and not the best comic book movie either - that's a tussle between Superman & TDK. I give it a generous 7/10 for overall entertainment but a realistic 5/10 for story.

HARRY! WHERE THE FUCK IS THE SKYFALL TRAILER!!!

    by MARCEL_THE_NEGRO_PROJECTIONIST

Get off you ass and post it here!!

  • I'm willing to bet 95% of America couldn't pick Nolan out of a lineup. Look at the poster. In big bold print at the top LEONARDO DICAPTRIO. In big bold print below the title, "from the director of THE DARK KNIGHT". In skinny blue text that's hard to make out about the title, "a Film by Christopher Nolan". I've like all of Nolan's films other than Insomnia (which people saw for Pacino and Robin Williams and because it's from "the Memento guy" not because it said Christopher Nolan anywhere). I'm not saying it's right, just that's how people are. They don't know the directors unless the directors are rockstars in public like Cameron, Speilberg, Lucas, Scorsese, etc. And even then they often don't go (see Tin Tin, Red Tails, Hugo, etc.).

  • April 26, 2012 4:47 PM CST

toby wan RE Ruffalo as Banner

    by rakesh patel

I loved Norton's Hulk, He was actually i felt perfect. That movie to a fan like myself was the hulk movie that should have been the first one. Norton should be kicking himself, being an ass has served him well, but not this time. From images and trailers i honestly didnt get a great vibe from Ruffalo. He looked kinda.. well dull. And in the movie he starts off like that, unassuming, but you start appreciating him and his brilliance, even stark has a respect for him, because he can appreciate banner is a leader in his field. You can see the build up, the slight tension, then irritation, then anger and then hulk! I thought the cgi on nortons huik was good, he looked good built. Ruffalos hulk is hench, and the hulk, facewise, you can see he looks like him, its actually quite brilliant. I would love to see another hulk movie, But i think hulk needs a support cast. Like perhaps the Pantheon. I could get behind that. and it would i reckon fit nicely in this new universe.

Re: DC Is Dying a Slow Death

    by Relentless85

I agree sorta. It's slipping to be sure, but not as bad as you say. They've got a solid base with Batman so far and I have some faith in Snyder handling Superman (despite Sucker Punch). But adapting Jonah Hex is akin to Marvel wasting their time with Ghost Rider i.e. picking an can level character to waste a movie on. Where they really fucked up was with Green Lantern. He's one of the core members of the DC universe and it was garbage. Here's my humble suggestion : Throw money at Darren Aroknofski to do Wonder Woman with someone like Eliza Dushku or Mila Kunis as Diana. Don't give Martian Manhunter his own film. Instead do a flick with MM, Aquaman, and Green Lantern with Lantern getting the majority of focus. Tap Favreau for a Flash movie with Ryan Gosling as the lead. This sets up the JLA flick for maybe 2014. Still wanna do a non mainstream character peice? Great. You give Cronenburg and Gaiman the budget and control to do Sandman the right way.

    by Rue The Day

Just saw it tonight, and apart from a very contrived "let's all argue with each other, before we'll all work together" scene it is the best marvel movie yet. The final 30 minutes is probably the best action packed scenes we've seen. Can't wait to see it again. It also had quite a few laugh out loud moments as well, which is always good.

    This movie is great!

    by Roderich

Saw a week ago in Germany. The best thing besides the fabulous special effects, nice score, awesome cast (especially Rufallo) is the humor. Yes its funny like hell throughout without sacrificing the plot for jokes. Joss Whedon at his best for sure. He is the man for such a story. And there is one scene... involving the Hulk and Loki... when the audience just went ballistic with laughter. You will know it, when it happens... That will be the modern version of the Raiders Swordman gag! Great great movie and i will see it again at least one more time.

  • April 26, 2012 5:25 PM CST

Yeah Preacher would/will make a fucking brilliant series.

Two words for Sandman Crispin Glover

  • Captain America seems to have done better than the Hulks. More than double. Both of the Hulks did about the same profit, almost double what they cost. Thor did pretty good, more than double. Strangely X-Men didn't draw nearly as much as those properties. But it still did double, it cost much less to make. X-Men 2 did almost double X-men 3 barely did more than it's cost.... No wonder why they did the reboot. Surprising, I didn't think X-Men was such a low draw compared to the other hero films. Wolverine did about double First Class did more than double And then you have the Spider-Mans... Which made like 8x what the cost!

    TDKR won't make these figures

    by performingmonkey

General interest in TDKR has waned. Bane is unappealing as a villain and Catwoman looks like a weak waste of time. I'm sure there will be a decent movie in there (it's Nolan, after all, despite Inception being the worst of his career) but it's not the massive event everyone was looking forward to a la TDK. Avengers and The Hobbit are those movies this year. Nothing else will touch them.

You are right DC has Batman but thats about it and as I said I have a real bad feeling about DKR. Their animated division does great I just dont know why they cant translate that into live action. Batman Begins should have been the template to launch the movie DCU but instead they went with deadbeat dad stalker Superman and it just got worse from there. Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman should have been the tentpoles for a JLA movie but instead it is mired in the same muck that brought such financial disasters as Green Lantern, The Losers and (unfortunately) the Watchmen.

I thought the first half was okay. In am a huge Whedon fan, but found it too talky, too much exposition and not enough drama, even though it was very funny. 6/10. The second half though is the best superhero movie I have ever seen. Who could have thought Joss would be able to handle action so well? 9/10. Highlights: Black Widow, The Hulk and the last minute in space.

And I think that's what your basing your opinion on. He's a normal human OK a bit deranged maybe, but just incredibly smart and absurdly wealthy who actually does something to improve his situation the only way he knows how. He suffered a brutal event early in his life, something that would cripple most people, and he wants to do what he can to keep that from happening to somebody else. Bats scared him as a kid and he wants to have something that can be a symbol of that fear and have it effect the criminals.

    3D review/little film review

    by regan

saw this in Dublin today, believe the hype the film is fun, their is the usual get the team together issue that takes a good hour after that its all jokes and action. johansson was a bit of a damp squid to be honest all pout and no fun I just didn't care when she was on screen lots of ass shots though, the aliens were pointless their just filler to fight, the killer jokes all revolve around Thor. there is a lot of "what the hell editing" people just go from the ground to the top of buildings in seconds, hulk picks up Loki from behind when he was standing in front of him talking. there's a lot of these edits and some are really hard to ignore. As for the 3D its nothing special to be honest I forgot I was watching it 10 mins in. there's some point at camera stuff especially a killer shot at the end to loki. the one dark scene involving the Thor/ iron man fight was fine and clear. I didn't even notice that the film was overly dark either. it just gives a more involved image, there was a few out of focus scenes that where jarring and when anything comes close to the screen your eyes cant really focus as ever as it blurs buy, there was a continuous shot of that snake robot that had me blinking like mad. you wont lose or gain going 3D.

They don't seem to grasp that if they want the films to be as good/popular as the comics just do what's on the fucking page. There's a reason the characters have lasted, don't change them to please some bullshit demographic.

Eh I really dont care about Spiderman

I loved the first two and I'll probably see this one but I won't be outraged if it sucks big floppy donkey dick.

  • In fact Maguire for Arseface in Preacher. No special effects needed. Just knock his teeth out so he talks funny.

  • I wondered how he got work.

  • And I do like Chloe, I just can't see her in the part for some reason. Elle Fanning wasn't a bad idea, neither was Luna Lovegood (I don't know her name, either). But they'll all be too old by the time they get around to it.

  • Since she started training with Syrio, in fact. It's clear that she and her mother may be the only people with their heads on straight. She doesn't have any IMDb entries before GoT, either. That surprised me.

    Watchmen

    by Relentless85

I actually liked it. Is it great? No but it's better than I thought it would be. The casting, visuals, and tone were well done. Pe Earl Haley was a great Rorshach.

  • He teases us with small bits every now and then. But I think somewhere up there in that brain 'o his he's got something else big to spring on us.

There's been a TON of material released, though, if you take into account The Dreaming, Sandman Presents and even Lucifer.

If he DOESN'T even add any new major pieces to the story those original 75 issues will always exist and they'll always be great. My best comic book memories (and I have a lot of them) all revolve around time between issues 25-75 of Sandman. I was buying a whole bunch of great books AND got a new issue of Sandman every month.

Although I have to say, as far as mature themed books go, right now is a pretty stellar time to be reading comic books. A lot of companies are releasing a wide variety of high quality books.

  • April 26, 2012 8:27 PM CST

    buckethead50 - I agree

    by Jaka

Even if Gaiman is involved I'd still be worried they'd screw it up somehow. I'd rather have nothing than a bad Sandman adaptation. And I agree with the "we'll always have the books" concept. But I can't apply it to this one. I want it to stay as it is.

  • April 26, 2012 8:27 PM CST

    One more thought...

    by Jaka

....a Sandman novel would be great. A series of them even. I'd be all over that.

  • April 26, 2012 8:31 PM CST

I agree, their are a lot of great books around.

    by Kill List Hammertime

Lucifer I just put straight into the Sandman canon. I can honestly say though, I don't think any other book has ever come close to entrancing me as much. I hope your right about more. Goddam I'm gonna have to read them again now. Oh well.

    by Darius

I think DC should just scrap the justice league thing I mean Marvel has like prepared and execute the Avengers build up and so on, like DC couldn't even think about doing a JL movie i mean they'd have to start batman over, Green lantern, superman and so on. Marvel won this period.

    Liked 90% of Watchmen

    by A for Aristocrat

Whether or not the squid would have worked, having Dr. Manhattan being the big threat doesnt work for me. The entire world could have united and there would be nothing they could do against that kind of power. The point in the comic was that the world couldnt depend on Dr. Manhattan to save them anymore and there was an outside threat the world had to come together to fight. Dr. M could have set up an empire at any time and had the same result without destroying all of the cities.

    by successor

Whedon will stop complaining about how everyone else screwed up his dialogue and scripts. He complained about Halle Berry's reading of his Toad line. No, Joss. It's a bad line and even Dame Judi Dench couldn't make it sound good. And his Alien: Resurrection script stunk big time. It was bad long before Jeunet came anywhere near it.

yes i'm still gonna whine about some casting choices

    by Have_Penis_Will_Travel

Jared Padalecki should have been cast as Clint Barton / Hawkeye And Jessica Biel is a far better choice for Natasha Romanoff / Black Widow 1) Clint is described as being 6'4" and ripped from pulling a multi hundred pound double recurve bow all day long 2) The black widow is a very athletic female character in Marvels stable. She's not a pose and point character like so many others are. Biel looks like an athlete (prolly cos she is) Scarlett MsBewbs looks like a marshmallow shoehorned into some spandex (prolly cos she is) While to be fair both actresses are on the short side to play the character /whine and rant over

    Loki - Hulk moment

    by trytuningthat

I haven't been in a cinema in a lonnnnggg time where I remember that sort of out-loud belly-laugh moment. It was awesome. I think it was a culmination of the Hulk's awesome turn in the movie. I'm not a HUGE Marvel anthusiast, but my friend is, and he turned to me half-way through and whispered 'Ruffalo is such good casting, he's perfect,' and it's true, he was awesome. I honestly think he stole the movie, and that moment with Loki got such a big laugh (I think) because of how awesome he'd been all the way through, and that was the cherry on the cake. Especially awesome how he saves Iron Man as well, seeing as Banner and Stark are now best friends haha. Ruffalos got big, big things coming. Well done sir. You have just entered a world of huge admiration and thanks

Cant wait another week, for once I'm jealous of the French. I do have to disagree about the demographics this will reach. My wife is dying to see this as bad as I am, and she's the type of chick that only watches Rom-Com movies that end in someone going to the prom. Then again I think she wants to have sex with Chris Hemsworth, so that could be it actually. Still jealous of the french for seeing it first.

    Avengers

    by manxsmiffy

Just seen Avenegers assemble (UK name) at the local cinema (Isle of man) The film was utterly superb. They finally nailed the hulk in both Banner and persona. Captain America was excellent, Thor & Loki did their thing and Robert Downey is, as usual, marvelous as Iron man. The minor roles (black widow and hawkeye) were also well presented and Sam Jackson as Nick Fury totally rocked. This is the best superhero film ever, to date, and the most true to the original concept. The only gripe I had was the 3D. I just didn't see the need for it.

  • April 27, 2012 12:41 PM CST

i am just back from this movie...

    by emeraldboy

and once again I have to ask... what the hell was Scarlet Johannson doing in this. why wasnt loki more menacing. why cant there be a limit on the amount of stuff in the marketing campaign. the money shot in this were the metallic winged beastie. I would like to see hollywood take the lead of Sir Ridley Scott. we know next to nothing about what Prometheus is all about. there has been very few clips. posters dont really give anything away. the aim of this was to bring the team together and they succeeded. I just hope for a much darker story. thats all. the story was very weak.

  • April 27, 2012 12:44 PM CST

I cannot stand 3d. saw the film without. the glasses.

  • Everyone we know will know exactly what The Avengers are. How fucking weird is that? It reminds me of many years ago when my stepmother asked me about one of my tattoos. I told her it was Wolverine. She had no idea what the fuck that meant. Recently she told me Wolverine was her favorite superhero.

So how is Cap's helmet and costume in teh movie?

    by Jaster Mareel

Looks pretty cool when he's leaping over that car in the trailer, but the stills make it look really stupid. Is it just overwhelmed by so much fucking awesomeness that you don't even notice it? Does he take it off after 10 minutes and spend the rest of the film without a mask a la Thor? By the way, does Thor wear his helmet at all? I'm guessing no since we haven't seen anything with it.

Avengers will gross between 1.1 to 1.3 billion

    by Lawrence

Fearless forecast for the "Avengers" movie : - A $200 million opening domestically in the U.S. - it'll end up grossing between 500 to 600 million domestically. - It'll end up grossing $ 1.1 to $1.3 Billion worldwide For sure : - Thanos will be the main villain in the sequel. My Wishlist : - Hope that Black Panther, Ant Man, Dr. Strange and Namor will be added to the Avengers roster. - Namor the Submariner will be the bad-ass anti-hero in the sequel. - Spiderman makes a short cameo appearance, but is a part of the Avengers lineup, albeit on a "part time " basis.
