CinemaCon - Disney's WRECK-IT RALPH To Feature Appearances From Famous Video Game Characters

Nordling here.

I'm looking forward to Disney's WRECK-IT RALPH later this year; for those of us who grew up in the heyday of Atari 2600 and mall arcades this one feels like a real treat.  I remember coming across DRAGON'S LAIR for the first time and losing my shit over the animation.

At CinemaCon, which our own Monty Cristo is attending, Disney showed more footage from the movie; they showed early test footage at D23 last year but this footage was very much finished, and they confirmed what they had stated they were trying to do last year: there will be cameo appearances from characters from Midway, Sega, Nintendo, and various other video game companies in the movie.  The scene they showed, the opening scene which had a support group for video game characters, had such disparate cameos as Zangief from STREET FIGHTER, to Kano from MORTAL KOMBAT, and even a PAC-MAN ghost.  Whether or not more of these characters would appear later in the film is unclear, but c'mon, there's got to be a "Your princess is in another castle" joke somewhere in there.

Video game character iconography is almost as prevalent these days as movie or cartoon characters, and so hopefully we will see more familiar characters that show up in the movie.  If someone doesn't whack someone else with a Tetris block, Disney's dropped the ball somewhere.
