Roger Corman Is Heading Into The Realm Of 3-D!!
The Kidd here...
If you're going to make some schlock these days, you might as well do it in 3-D... and Roger Corman is finally getting his first taste of the third dimension. The 86-year-old producer/director is set to put his name on ATTACK OF THE 50 FOOT CHEERLEADER for Epix, according to Variety, with visual effects artist Kevin O'Neill getting the nod to direct. As for the cast, Sean young (Where's she been the past 20 years or so?), Treat Williams and former Miss Teen USA contestant Jena Sims, who'll most likely fill the title role.
The film is set to debut in August, and fits perfectly into the recent slate of films Corman's been involved with - DINOSHARK, SHARKTOPUS, DINOCROC VS. SUPERGATOR. If only we could have seen those awfully cheap special effects in 3-D... it would have made the hilarity of those flicks far more epic. The Syfy Channel can only go so far in doing today's B-level films justice. There is a real possibility of CHEERLEADER getting at least some theatrical release, so stay tuned...

Maybe we'll finally get the *My Dinner With Andre* of 3d simply due to lack of fund, yet still made because he insists upon 3d.
-
That's what it seems you're saying.
-
From what I understand, most people don't really want to see through a movie with glasses on their face. So why does 3-D keep getting shoved down our throats? Just stop. Focus on other new technology, 3-D is a waste of talent and resources.
-
oh wait.. it isn't. Just don't go. No-one is forcing you. And actually, most people DO want to.

Corman is 86? Damn, I guess Z-movies are some sort of fountain of youth.

Anyone remember the HBO Attack Of The 50 Foot Woman, that Christopher Guest directed? Not bad, I remember.

Do it right - REBOOT one of your old chestnuts ... say for instance, Beast of the Yellow Night, AND make it in 3D.

So there gonna be an article on the James Cameron Asteroid Mining announcement?
by Hint_of_Smegma
James Cameron. Plus a bunch of billionaires. Developing near Earth asteroid mining. Surely that comes under cool news??
-
Roger should make the 3D treatments for all his Vincent Price features. Barbara Steele from the Pit & the Pendulum in 3D, that would be a great seller too
-
Just never appealed to me. 3D is a big ol' pile of shit, with some good pieces of corn in it.(Still looking at you, Avatar.)
-
I think that's still sort of new news. Can't expect AICN to notice.
-
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-17827347 I'm sure we'll get mention of it at some point after Cameron personally touches down to yank the first gold nuggets.

3D keeps getting shoved down our throats cause of the extra $$$$$. I though that was obvious by now. It certainly can't be for artistic merit or viewing quality. Where it might be, it isn't worth the expense, inconvenience and screen dimness. It is simply a gimmick to get more of your money. And don't go is a stupid answer. Sometimes there isn't a 2D choice, or there isn't one at the time you can go. GET RID OF 3D!!!

He remade 1957's Not Of This Earth in 1988 with Traci Lords in the Beverly Garland role. And he also updated 1975's Death Race 2000 with Death Race (2008) starring Jason Statham.
-
The red spray that covers the action and the blue screen body parts are getting old.
-
I would swear he had toyed with 3d before... never in the 60s or 70s? Humanoids From the Deep or something? I'm sure that's wrong, but I just have a feeling that he would have already exploited it. it is after all, a trick belonging to his bag more than "mainstream" film, in my opinion.
-
and names it *unobtanium*. LOL
-
You still don't have to go. *pictures supermans_red_underpants's face getting all red and having a temper tantrum* No-one is getting rid of 3d, so just give up already. It's not only here to stay, it's how we see. They will continue to improve it, but it's not going anywhere. The only place where 3d is dying is here and other forums filled (somewhat) with unhappy, cynical fanboys.
-
should be called *Comin' At Ya 2 - 3D In Your Face!* and make it mandatory. And porn.
-
You're all missing the point(s)! Taut, nubile boobies in 3D!
-
And you can bet there's a possibility of this remake actually happening.
-
More woman to love.
-
Corman is like the MacGyver of cinema.

ultratron - why there has not been an Escape From New York videogame is beyond me...
by openthepodbaydoorshal
The character, the plot, the landscape,.....
-
But by all means, keep paying extra for the gimmick. A fool and his money... That is all.
-
Cameron and his partners named the asteroid mining company Planetary Resources. Jesus Jim! You could have made all of us cum in unison if you'd named it Weyland/Yutani.
