HeyUGuys - gets a great quick interview with Kevin Fiege about the Marvel Universe!!
Hey folks, Harry here... Just got an email from Dave Sztypuljak over at HeyUGuys.Co.Uk with a great little Video Interview of Kevin Feige, the President of MARVEL - and he clarifies some of the landscape with Marvel's films - and hints that ANT MAN is closer than it has ever been. But also we find out about Scarlet Witch & Quicksilver in terms of their possible future use in a future AVENGERS flick. I love this stuff, because when I begin hearing these things - well, I don't need to get excited, I'm already dying to see this film. At this point, I think most of us have become Marvel's bitch and we're just impatient and anxious. Anxious because MARVEL is just now beginning to really show the full potential of doing this right. And still... the possibility to blow minds is just starting to be tapped. Whenever we get DR STRANGE, there's a potential for something completely new from Marvel - and I hope they fully realize it. Right now, I'm pretty damn confident. It's great to feel that way. To be a bit relaxed, knowing that they GET IT. They're actually getting it. That there isn't a need to scream and bitch and moan, but a reason to genuinely celebrate as fans - this is what we've been saying. In a very real way - this is the big explosion that will open up the larger potential of the Marvel Universe. And I just pray that the folks over at DC at Warners... that they see what is happening here. They're going to nail the hell out of DARK KNIGHT RISES... and I like they're doing more, but bringing these characters together, it unleashes a comic geekgasm that is genuinely refreshing. Now - here's Dave & Kevin...

I think a Dr. Strange movie would be amazing, but they need to think more Blade and less Iron Man. By that I mean that the movie will have to have its own vibe completely. The Dr. Strange movie must feel like a very personal, human-level story told in a cosmic, redonk setting. And no origin! Leave that for the second or third movie.

Damn you leisuredrummer!

Go to a local comicbook store, buy an issue of THE AVENGERS, old or new. take it home, sit in a comfortable chair, open the cover and start reading...
-
Dark sci-fi action comedy, with Alan Rickman voicing the Freelance Peacekeeping Agent. Or, at least team him up with Deadpool or have him as an antagonist in Avengers 2.
-
I can't wait for either of these:) The other day my friends and I were talking about these potential films as being too unknown or off the beaten path, but then we realized that for non-geeks...so were Iron Man, Cap and Thor. I think Marvel knows how to market their films (which is odd since Disney doesn't) so that even if you're not aware of the character you still get caught up in it. They need to make sure they continue the near perfect matching of director and material and the absolutely perfect matching of actor and character though. That's what makes these movies for me.
-
May I suggest Michael Jai White and Scott Adkins with 'drama doubles' for the dialogue.

I'm excited about the speculation that Fox may let the Fantastic Four film rights lapse...
by Gabe Athouse
...and then we get a new FF movie, by Marvel, done right, and all the attendant characters are fair game for future Marvel movies. This will be particularly fruitful if they're really looking to explore the cosmic aspects of the 'verse in film. I personally would love to see a Kree/Skrull war tie-in between Avengers, FF and a third cosmic-level property, like Guardians of the Galaxy or Silver Surfer or Nova Corps or something.

is it a mercenary style group or does Disney have an in house marketing team? Carter and the Marvel films have had huge differences in terms of marketing style and push strategies, with notable results.

DC/WB will wait and see how DKR does compared to Avengers.
by hank henshaw
If Avengers makes more money than Batman, they might consider a plan to bring WW, Flash, Green Lantern (try for real this time), a Batman that is compatible to the JLA, etc. If DKR makes TDK-like amounts of dough, forget it, all Warner will do is churn out more Batman movies. Other characters will get tv shows, at best.

Dr. Strange: Have it take place in the 70's. Shoot it with dirty grindhouse film and old-school effects.
by 3774
Also, lace it with horror. It would be neat beyond the human mind's ability to comprehend. Of course, we won't get something cool like that. It'll be glossed and CGI'd to oblivion like everything else...even when it doesn't fit the concept.

If anything, they're going to SPEND, SPEND, SPEND now that their carefully laid plans have finally lead to The Avengers release and, I'm 99% certain, HUMONGOID box office. Combine that with the acquisition by Disney, and I think they have a mandate similar to Pixar's: keep doing what you're doing, bigger and better. So I could see some casting coup announcements as part of their larger marketing strategy (in some ways, it already is) and I can see a lot of big names wanting to get in on the Marvel machine. Someone else mentioned the pitch perfect combination of director and material as well as actor and material, and another person mentioned the way they market these films so characters the average person has never heard of find an audience. They're absolutely amazing at it. Batman is BATMAN, but to get asses in the seats for Iron Man and Thor? That's a hat trick. I'm sure they'll falter somewhere, (or maybe not, wouldn't that be something?), but for now, let's all just enjoy the ride.
-
am I the only person who enjoyed IM 2 and Incredible Hulk, in spite of their faults?
-
Lots of herd- mentality hate dumped on those two for no reason.
-
There must be some old school agent somewhere who could net a deal for Marvel to re-acquire its properties, or, at least, have them work in conjunction with each other. Spider-man was, for a long time, their most popular character, then the X-men -- neither of whom they currently own the film rights to. Luke Cage/Iron Fist is a great obvious set of side characters, and yeah, we all know who's coming... NAMOR bet on it. But come on, Marvel needs Doom, and they know it. Imagine Downey Jr.'s Stark mano a mano with a re-cast, bad ass Dr. Victor Von Doom. (Michael Fassbender. There, its done) Jon Hamm as Mr. Fantastic, etc. T.'.

In what context could you make a Ant-Man film and make it a great selling mainstream movie without people laughing at the idea of a man, who can get big or small and can talk to Ants. <br> I think we can all agree that some Comic book characters just can not translate well to the big screen.<br> Please remove your rose tinted glasses people!
-
and IF the Avengers is the success I (we?) hope it is, if i were Marvel I would release some movies under a "Marvel Knights" banner or something along those lines . The more adult ..(maybe atmospheric or unusual are better descriptions) end of their range: The Punisher, Dr Strange, Moon Knight, Blade if they can get the rights back, those kind of characters. Still tie it into the more mainstream universe with references to SHIELD, all that kind of thing. Lower budgets to reflect probable higher ratings and so on. I watched the first Blade movie last night. I forgot how damn good it is, IMO the best of the trilogy, because it got the atmosphere so right.

One of Marvel's best characters with classic storylines.
-
I guess that's why Garth Ennis's MAX run was so terrible, eh? Oh no wait hang on, it was the definitive version of the character and the best run of Punisher comics in decades, with no capes in sight. Weird that.
-
They need to hold off Thanos for Avengers 3. Ultron is perfect plus Ant-Mans tag could have Ultron as a perfect lead in for Avengers 2. As cool as Doom would be he should be a Avengers 4 villian. By that time they may have cleared up all the rights issues with Fox. Also, all this talk about Ant-Man. How come no one has mentioned the Wasp. The two go hand in hand.
-
Contains some pretty big spoilers in my opinion!
-
Why not use the comic as a guide to introduce the Black Panther to Big Screen. This way we don't get another FF Origin story rather get one for T'Challa and a more menacing Dr. Doom (Something they tried to do for the Silver Surfer and failed) I think Idris Elba would make a great T'Challa and shouldn't be confused with the character he played in Thor since he was concealed pretty well.
-
If you wanted the name of the alien race to be a surprise.

The "definitive" run of the Punisher has always been the 1985 Steven Grant miniseries.

Marvel is releasing an Infinity Gauntlet pinball table
by mr.underwater
At the same time as an Avengers table (for 360, not steel and wood, unfortunately) http://www.g4tv.com/videos/58031/marvel-pinball-avengers-chronicles-the-infinity-gauntlet-gameplay-video/ That alone tells me the Thanos talk is real. Another thing is, they put out a Moon Knight table in December. Which makes me wonder if a Marc Spector movie is in the works
-
I agree, it might be cos I read them when they first came out, when I was about 14 - which is a great age to read that sort of stuff, any other Punisher series I've read since, absolutely pales by comparrison.

Well the reviews say not to leave early as a guest that will probably be in Avengers 2 is intro'd. Which I am imagining will be spidey. Although I would completely shit my breeches if it was the big (dirty)blue boy scout. But it wont be. Second level of filled pants would be for Wolverine.

True story. "Lee recalls meeting years ago with Fabio, the romance-novel cover boy, about playing the part. "Someone brought him up to my office to see if he could play Thor," Lee says. "Visually, he would have been good, but in those days we weren't even in a position to do a movie." Lee says Thor "will have to be someone big and strong and kind of blondish. And there should be a nobility." http://www.usatoday.com/life/movies/news/2008-06-22-marvel-magic_N.htm

Guys like Ang Lee & Louis Lettier had no clue on what they were doing. Now we have to deal with their versions of say the Abomination for future films! And their continuity. I want a dumb Leader & spy a Blonsky.
-
Here's why: 1) Nobody knows who the hell Dr. Strange is except for fanboy geeks. 2). They want to make the movie, therefore, without spending any money to make sure its profitable. 3) Depp costs way too much. 4) You want Strange to be played soberly, not campy or too weird. I know he's a sorcerer, but that's the whole juxtaposition. He's a sober surgeon. A man of science. Not a weirdo. Depp doesn't play straight characters well. I can see Marvel getting someone like Bruce Greenwood to play Strange. (Although he's probably too old). Ironically, I think George Clooney would be a better Dr. Strange than Depp. But, we all know Patrick Dempsey wants the role and has been campaigning for it.
-
Louis gosset jr as falcon Ed Begly jr as Havok Michael Douglas as moonknight Phil Donahue as doc ock Mel Gibson as daredevil
-
Hmmmm..... Although, he just did a run as Voldemort. So, he might not be interested. The movie would be rather cinematic. Similar to Ironi man. First half of the movie -- establishes Strange as an arrogant and assholic, yet, brilliant surgeon. he's then in a tragic accident that injures is hands and prevents him from doing surgery. Distraught, he travels the world looking for a cure -- and in Tibet saves the life of the ancient one who trains him in the arts of sorcrery, yadda, yadda, yadda. It's a combination of Iron Man, Batman Begins and Harry Potter.

How in the world can you have an alien invasion in the middle of Manhattan, and there's no Spiderman or Fantastic Four around? How can you not have Dr. Doom scheming to take advantage of the situation, somehow? It's like fighting World War II in Europe, but Hydra instead of the Nazis are the primary enemy. Oh wait....

steve rogers, your attitude is rather, hissy like a little bitch. Garth's run was in an established world inhabited by superheroes, it is different than making a movie.
by the Green Gargantua
you stupid little cunt. Listen hear, Punisher was set up decades ago in the Marvel universe and what makes him the Punisher and not Charlie Bronson, or some other revenge icon is that while other costumed vigilante are leaving the bad guys chained to a fire escape with a note pinned to them Frank just kills the shit out of them. You can get all stand alone Frank Castle later in a film series, but what makes him the Punisher is that he is doing these things in the Marvel Superhero Universe! Class dismissed, SON!

An amazing film would be Nova interfering with the Punisher as he tortures a Bosnian human trafficking bosses
by the Green Gargantua
And we use the model created by Green Arrow/ Green Lantern Neil Adams, wherein Punny teaches Nova the ugly of REAL bad guys and why it is best to burn them alive.
-
is that he realizes his power is to just KILL THEM DEAD. Kill or be killed. He knows he doesn't have the power of the other heros. And from their perspective, many are still motivated by revenge and are virtually invulnerable to any human criminal element, but they make the choice to not crush them all like bugs. They take the higher road because if they wanted to, they really are gods on earth and I'd still like to see a movie where humans have to deal with a super hero that goes on a killing rampage and basically tries to subjugate the human race into getting along by wreaking havoc across the planet. Like if Superman just went, 'You know what, FUCK IT, you're all gonna get along or I'm gonna MAKE you get along, now witness my wrath!' Basically act like a wrathful and angry god. Anyway, Magneto, to me, is who Frank would be if he had special powers. And it doesn't make him any less right, that's what's so interesting about it.
-
and write that script.

I'm all spidered out, but a Marvel take would be good and Daredevil needs an apology. Not that the first was bad, it just could have been better.

You have to be freaking kidding me. There's a character named Ant Man? And I thought the name 'Captain America' was pathetic as a characters name. What's next? Tit Man, Pizza Man, Middle Ear Infection Man? Garbage Man? Shit-Breath Man? Religious Man? Religious Man could hunt down villians and preach the gospel to them until they hand themselves in? For fuck's sake, enough with the super hero shit movies. The concepts are OLDER than life itself.
